The death of a region.. a local note of demolition

For anyone not from the coal region of Pennsylvania, the notion that a hospital being auctioned off and an old-school being knockdown may not mean much.. But it meant a lot for me yesterday.
It just so happened that Black Friday this year was filled with the voyage back in time, to the deepest and darkest pits of my memory. I was born in the Ashland Regional Medical Center in September 1980. Today, that building, most recently known as St. Catherine’s Medical Center, was auctioned off and all of the possessions within it were liquidated— bankruptcy occurred last year that caused the closure of St. Catherine’s and the unemployment of almost 200 workers Then came the other vision, I knew that Immaculate Heart Elementary School in Girardville PA would be knocked down but was still shocked to see have you equipment demolishing the school today as I drove by. I went to that school starting  in the sixth grade, in those mid-1990s when everything seemed great. So much of my memories are now gone. …

AND THEY'RE OFF! BLACK FRIDAY MADNESS FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA

Commercialism and material goods are flying off shelves. People may not need them, want them, or even understand them, but they're buying them up like there's no tomorrow.
It's a good reason to stay away from stores today.. Unless you like the thrill of the chase and the fight over the last remaining toaster on a store shelf..
Even though everything you thought you knew about Black Friday was wrong..

The baffling comet Ison.

Where do we stand?
Depends on who you're asking..

This is where we are with Comet Ison tonight: We have never seen a comet behave like this »It’s still possible that the initial reports of ISON’s demise were exaggerated. “It is now clear that Comet ISON either survived or did not survive, or… maybe both,” Bruce Betts, director of projects for the Planetary Society, said in a Twitter update. “Hope that clarifies things.”What we know: Not much yet. We can guess, and some shots would appear that ISON is alive and well..or at least half alive and still moving. Earlier today everyone, including NASA, pronounced this potentially historic comet dead. That does not seem to be the case as more analysis is done. Joshua Filmer of the site FROM QUAKES TO QUASARS wrote this tonight: As I stated before, as the comet approached the Sun, something happened and ISON started to smear. It looked like the comet fizzed out before it even got started. Even if ISON disintegrated, scientists were suppose to se…

Party night. Ison bright.

The party night is here. Have a drink or two or three, and don’t drive. Unless you’re designated. In which case don’t drink. Common sense, people. Cranberry sauce is waiting. And look up! You may spot a meteor.

ISON THE BRIGHT!

This from CNN!
CNN: NASA’s Comet ISON Observing Campaign website says the comet is “brightening dramatically” ahead of its close encounter with the sun on Thursday. The glare of the sun has blocked most ground-based observations for now, but NASA has a fleet of spacecraft watching as ISON plunges toward the sun. Two space telescopes recorded images of the comet after it started acting like it was falling apart. NASA’s STEREO satellite and later the ESA/NASA SOHO spacecraft both spotted ISON. The images indicate that ISON is on course and “is seen to brighten … a reasonably bright tail might develop as the comet reappears,” said Padma Yanamandra-Fisher with observing campaign.

As you un-can your yams: The fire in the sky. And below.

Twas the night before Thanksgiving,
And all across Earth,
Eyes were staring at the heavens,
What's Ison worth?

It may be a big show. Or a big dud.
We will not really know until Comet Ison makes its way around the sun--if it makes it, we will have a wonderful light show and a potential 'Comet of the Century' until Christmas.

We reported last night that Ison was looking like it would die a slow and icy death. Today there are mixed signals  and a renewed chance that we will witness this potentially historic comet.

While you spice your turkey and un-can your yams, tonight may be a great night to tune into Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis. He's on right now live as I write this, affiliates can be found here. Among his topics will be Ison and, as he reported tonight, fireballs being seen across Greece--and also apparently San Diego.

The Thanksgiving Eve news of the world

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 27 2013

There are two places that will be busier than ever today: Roads, and bars. Highways are 'jammed with people and cars'.. People racing home to be with kith and kin. Sometimes grudgingly. Sometimes not. Later today, pubs and bars will open their doors to a night fill with happy go lucky home comers.. And that is the part that reminds me of this 2008 ONION article titled: 26-Year-Old To See Every Asshole He Ever Went To High School With On Night Before Thanksgiving . How true that is.

Now to the news of the day..

A fascinating story: Welcome to Cicada 3301, the internet mystery that has the world baffled..

Holiday hell: The 2013 holiday shopping season may end up being remembered for its ugly sweaters and, for many retailers, even uglier discounts... A growing weak economy, no fashion trends, and no must haves.. it's a year of jitters and sputtering.. a holiday season without guidance, or fun. Instead people are just going to try to make it through Dece…

New Madrid shaking? The booms may hold the answer

A YOUTUBE video has some interesting information concerning some old booms and history that may be repeating itself.
The user Cometison uploaded a video explaining that major loud booms, described then as canon fire, were heard two to three years prior to 1811-12 New Madrid earthquakes. The video goes on to explain more of the weird connections of events from then to now..
The video here:

The boom conundrum started about two years ago--major loud bangs have been heard throughout the United States for some time.
Linda Moulton Howe reported on the booms early--many YouTube videos were uploaded throughout the past 24 months..

There are other connections in the video to comets.. There was a great comet in 1811.
Comets in 2013 are present and ready to appear..

All information should be taken with a grain of salt--or a bag.
But it sure does sound freakishly like history may be happening all over again..

A tale of two Isons

There is conflicting information circulating today regarding the Comet of the Century, Ison.

On one hand, an expert named Stephen Lowry was quoted in the IB TIMES today saying that Ison is breaking up and may not survive its trip around the sun.. Lowry is a senior lecturer at the Centre for Astrophysics and Planetary Science School of Physical Sciences at the University of Kent Canterbury.. He told the publication that he does not think the comet will survive, commenting, "New reports show rapid decrease in gas emissions from the comet and a rapid increase in dust. Now these are early reports so we could be wrong. But for me personally I don't think it's likely to survive."

And on the other hand...
A video update of Ison seems to paint a different picture..

Here it is for your enjoyment and knowledge:

And then there's this: A huge CME has just been fired by the sun at Ison..
Battle is on.

We will see what occurs with this comet in a matter of days.

Newtown shooter Adam Lanza acted alone, had no clear motive, according to a new report »I saw some anger about this report—some of the families of those slain by Lanza appeared to be hostile to this report. One analysis I read said that it’s a detailed report and really did not have to be. The report in essence was only to determine if any more suspects should be arrested. It could have been only one page long with one sentence on it, but instead the State’s Attorney’s report is more detailed..  The overall hint is that the gun violence and mental illness of Lanza became a deadly combination.  The good part of this whole horrible event is that maybe something will finally take place to improve mental health in the United States. The WASHINGTON TIMES reports,  Rep. Tim Murphy, Pennsylvania Republican, said last week he intends to introduce legislation next month “to fix the problems that have plagued the nation’s mental health system for decades.” He said in 1955 there were 550,000 psychia…

A sinkhole to hell: Did the owner take his pond with him?

A massive sinkhole has developed in Bosnia, shocking those who see it, and pervading a seemingly peaceful countryside with a shocking image of how cruel the planet earth can be.
The ASSOCIATED PRESS dispatch reports it this way: SANICA, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Just outside the rustic village, children fished in a tranquil pond bobbing with green algae and lined with willow trees, as cattle grazed nearby. Now, Rezak Motanic gazes in disbelief down a gigantic moonlike crater where the pond used to be. It's like something from a science fiction movie: a sinkhole swallowed the water, the fish and even nearby trees.  To the weary eyes strained on daily news, this should come as no shock. There seems to be an increased amount of sinkholes across the crust lately. Maybe we can chalk it up to increased attention, or ...just maybe there are more of them. The prospects of having a pond filled with fish and life simply vanish before you eyes is unbelievable.  And as these things go, the AP reports, t…

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 26 2013

Thanksgiving travel begins. Many people are battling snow, ice, and rain. Just like in the movie PLANES TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES, it may be a long ride back home for some. Take it slow.. you'll make it.

Meanwhile.. the news..

Every time I laugh at the ‘prophecy of the popes’ this happens: Francis does something to remind me of it

The latest event to raise my conspiracy-tainted eyebrows:The Vatican has Peter the Roman on the display—the first pope—and it’s the first time. It’s happening under the watchful pontificate of Pope Francis. Reports indicate that the bones of the body supposedly of Peter.  Does this pope knowingly make these allusions to St Peter just to  mess with people?

Grapes of wrath

Well, not the actual grape, but the life form that exists in the bag of them.
A few days ago, a friend showed me a video cell phone video from her daughter—it was a video of a spider crawling around in a bowel.  I was told: She went to a big grocery store and bought a bag of grapes. When she came home, she found a black widow lurking within her fruit.. When she returned the grapes, the store manager said that he heard other states had the same reports. And now this.. There is a story online today about a woman who found a black widow spider in her grapes .. in Pennsylvania.  The story is NOT about my friend’s daughter—but the story if certainly similar.   And her story is also the same as others from the nation, in which people in several states are reporting this sudden rash of venomous spiders.. I often wonder if stories like this are just another little urban legend, a blip on the rumor radar—intensified by the free wheeling internet.  But I bring myself back to reality with this little …

A ghastly image of the Danish Royal family revealed. And it was not in insult.

Nothing creepy about this, now is there? You are looking at an image of the official portrait of the Danish Royal Family by Thomas Kluges. And it’s really, really weird.
GAWKER has some observations on the matter..  GAWKER described the painting the best, and I will not even try to match it. Caity  Weaver wrote: The painting depicts three generations of royals, all eerily aglow as if they have just feasted on a village of Thomas Kinkade’s flaming houses, dressed in various articles of clothing proportionate to their size. Its members engage in their various favorite pastimes: holding onto a baby’s leg; constructing a tower to heaven as an affront to God; using black magic to animate a toy horse, causing it to prance and lurch with queer, jerky motions. In the foreground, an 8-year-old bores into the souls of those Beyond The Fourth Wall. Behind the group: the ruins of the city they have destroyed. The ghastly image is terrifying. Though the official description of the painting says the Roy…

CATCHING FIRE catches fire

Box Office: 'Catching Fire' Ablaze Friday With $70.5 Million »The good, the bad, and the ugly.
HUNGER GAMES is setting some box office theaters on proverbial fire with a pre-Thanksgiving weekend romp.. It’s going to be a big movie when final numbers come out. Just in my little neck of the woods, the theater at the Schuylkill Mall in Frackville PA actually devoted all of its theaters to this film on Friday due to the demand for ticket sales. And even my quiet and reserved brother, who seldom takes part in such affairs, went to the movies with his family to see this film. If Lionsgate got my brother, well hell they could get anyone.  The other part of this weekend’s box office is just how bad Vince Vaughn is doing.According to the DEADLINE breakdown from Friday night’s box office, the DELIVERY MAN is a big bust.. But next to HUNGER GAMES, nothing really can compete. We are told that experts are predicting $150 mil plus for HUNGER GAMES. That’s big. And it will be the biggest Novembe…

CATCHING FIRE catches fire

A photo anomaly brings comfort to a family

Your eyes are not fooling you.. You are seeing two children in this photo—though only one child was present when the picture was snapped.
According to NEWS 9 in Oklahoma, Scott McCabe was taking a photo of his son’s cousin on his cell phone.  McCabe’s son was not there because he died on May 20 in the Oklahoma tornado at Plaza Towers Elementary—the school devastated when the storm his.  McCabe believes that his son is present in the photo of the girl, named Madison, with sparklers on the Fourth of July.. McCabe has faced some criticism online, with some accusing him of faking the photo. But I watched the interview that NEWS 9 had with McCabe. I saw a man who was humbled and brought to tears. I saw someone who found comfort in this photo..  And that may be all that really matters.
Comfort. Peace of mind.  Love.

Looks like it will be a white Thanksgiving for millions

This is the latest GFS model run. If you’re driving anywhere you see blue and purple on the East Coat this Thanksgiving eve, get prepared. It may be a ‘planes, trains, and automobiles’ type of scenario for you, with snow ruining many people and their voyages..
BUT.. At this point computer guidance is still crazy… nothing seems to be resembling any consistent or coherent forecast at this point. It seems that models are converging no the notion that a snow event somewhere will happen. But where? What timing?  Check back on that.
