The mad scientist: Random words, gibberish, and fake

If you ever read a science journal and scratched your head in confusion, you're not alone.

You're left wondering.. what did I just read?

Am I completely stupid for not understanding a single sentence?

Such big words may have confused you but the structure of the sentence may have led to even more exacerbation of the brain.

And today we learn this: 120 papers published in science journals over the past several years have been called out.

They are frauds. Not real.

FOXNEWS reports this,
Some 120 papers published in established scientific journals over the last few years have been found to be frauds, created by nothing more than an automated word generator that puts random, fancy-sounding words together in plausible sentence structures. As a result they have been pulled from the journals that originally published them.
The fake papers are in the fields of computer science and math and have titles such as “Application and Research of Smalltalk Harnessing Based on Game-Theoretic Symmetries”; “An Evaluation of E-Business with Fin”; and “Simulating Flip-Flop Gates Using Peer-to-Peer Methodologies.” The authors of those papers did not respond to requests for comment from
This would seem to be a pretty big deal in the science world.
Undoubtedly, these journals were quoted and reported on, heralded and debated. And they weren't even real ..

The scale of the problem appears to be enormous in the scientific community. SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN wrote a section in their summary on how to create a nonsense paper.

I often wonder if these reports on the news of the 'new survey' or study contemplating some sort of thing is real to begin with.

We know that 120 papers published in real journals weren't real.. And that is a big deal.

STRANGER THINGS 2 looks incredible

The newest STRANGER THINGS 2 trailer hit on Friday the 13th .. amazing timing as always with the fine people at Netflix..

The excitement over this program is incredible. Not only are people re-watching and re-binging the first season in preparation, but there is an equal amount of re-watching and analyzing of the newest trailers..

Before discussion.. take a glance:

My initial thought: This is actually the weaker of the teasers and trailers for season 2.. Yes, I am inclined to wonder why Eleven is more androgynous  .. why she has more hair now and no one shaved it. why she is out of the upside down and eating Eggos in the normal world..

So many questions about her. But the trailer didn't pay much attention to her--I think on purpose. Instead we glimpsed into the post-pubescent boys and now new friends of another gender planning something, just as the world is being taken over by giant squid creatures from the upside down.

Not viewed at all? Mike's mom and dad. Barb..

Forgive me…
