Sources say the streaming giant is ponying up as much as $350,000 an episode for each of the show's adult actors...
Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, and Caleb McLaughlin, the show’s young male stars, are set to make more than $150,000 per episode, according to the report. Millie Bobby Brown, considered the breakout from the first two seasons, is reportedly earning more than three boys.. All four reportedly earned $30,000 per episode for the first two seasons. The two main adult stars, Winona Ryder and David Harbour, are now set to make more than $200,00 per episode, according to the report..

DANNY MCBRIDE promises his alternate HALLOWEEN movie will reference other films.. MORE: That means that even Halloween II, which takes place on the same night and picks up immediately after the end of the first film, is not part of what McBride is calling an "alternate reality" for the franchise. It's a somewhat risky move considering the franchise's long history, but like Disney's decision to wipe the slate clean with the Star Wars Expanded Universe, it offers up a new world of possibilities for the creative team...
McBride and Green's film will be set 40 years after the original and return to Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) — who's now a mother and grandmother — as Michael Myers reappears in her life. How the film will address Michael's disappearance and the 40-year gap between stories (something the other films have never had the chance to try) is still a mystery, but that means Laurie's days as a teacher living under an assumed name with her son (as in Halloween H20) no longer count, and neither do the stories about Laurie's daughter Jamie (as in Halloween 4 and 5), which were already rendered non-canon by later sequels..

This is going to be G R E A T ! ! ! A horror movie from Shawn Levy and James Wan! .. MORE: The minds behind The Conjuring and Stranger Things are coming together for a new YA-based horror film. According to Deadline, James Wan and producer Shawn Levy will be developing an adaptation of Stephanie Perkins’s novel There’s Someone Inside Your House for a coming-of-age slasher-style film. The book centers on a young girl named Makani Young, who, a year after moving from Hawaii to Nebraska to live with her grandmother, gets caught in the middle of something sinister when her friends start getting murdered in hideous fashion. While the killer is being pursued, Makani has to reckon with her own secrets, and according to the Deadline report, audiences can expect “1980s and ’90s slasher movie meets a John Hughes coming-of-age tale like The Breakfast Club.” So if you’re into Stranger Things and teen screams, this movie is for you...

STRANGER THINGS gets hit with #MeToo! In a statement, the Duffer brothers said, “We are deeply upset to learn that someone felt uncomfortable on our set. Due to the high-stress nature of production, tempers occasionally get frayed, and for that, we apologize. However, we think it is important not to mischaracterize our set, where we believe strongly in treating everyone fairly regardless of gender, orientation, race, religion, or anything else. We remain totally committed to providing a safe and collaborative working environment for everyone on our productions"..

The slow and painful bite of nostalgia on a late winter's night

"Beware nostalgia" – it's holding you back from the rest of your life →theguardian.com

This is from a UK GUARDIAN article in 2014.. the nostalgia has changed a bit. The danger of nostalgia remains the same.

Nostalgia is a dangerous thing. It’s a signifier that you hate how your life has turned out. It’s a sign that you’ve mentally locked off, and you’re doomed to spend the rest of life drifting in a false reverie of a past that didn’t exist. Nostalgia is why Tim Lovejoy still dresses like it’s 1996 and is primed to weep the moment anyone mentions Ocean Colour Scene to him. It’s why all your Facebook friends spend their days in a whirlwind of incredulous bafflement at the passing of time, forever asking people to like JPEGs about conkers, all because they’re trapped in a loveless marriage to a woman they accidentally knocked up after ironically slow-dancing to I Want To Know What Love Is during a hideous School Disco party.
This isn’t a generational thing, incidentally. Everyone’s guilty of it. When I was growing up, I distinctly remember having teachers who would reminisce about their wartime evenings in Anderson shelters. Give them a time machine and the first thing they would do is dart back and relive their glory days shivering in a hole next to a bucket of wee, constantly awaiting terrifying death from above. At least you’re only nostalgic about Blind Date.

Stranger Things, Everything Sucks, and other similar shows have captivated and capitalized on an audience that wants the sugar coated past to come back again. We decorate the fragments of our history with beautiful imagery.. often ignoring the darker forces that are always at play regardless of the time frame.

Nostalgia is a dangerous thing.. it is a time

Nostalgia gives you the rush of memory.. the intense beauty of your childhood and your parents, your family.. the local mall that is now shuddered.. the laughter that has gone away with time.. Yes, nostalgia seems almost fixated in destroying your present time and future alike..

But with nostalgia, as the happiness becomes subdued and subsides, your moral compass turns towards the sadness and grief over the passage of time that comes with it.

We are all aging faster than we want to. Some us just don’t realize it until we have aged far too much.

And as you embrace nostalgia, as you welcome it when it comes knocking.. the inevitable dangers come with it. You will smile at its melancholy colors.. you will laugh along with its stories of past times go by.. and as you give it one last hug, you’ll swell with emotion.

…and that is when it sinks its vampire-style teeth deep into your soul, tearing your very insides out and forcing your body to weep the blood and tears of the past times gone by.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Executives at A24 were familiar with the short story, and when they heard the author had separately written a script, they became intrigued and tracked it down. What the execs found was a shrewd character study where mystery and deep-seated scares blended in such a way that the company saw an opportunity to make a horror movie that could also be culturally relevant, sources say. The plan is to fast-track the script to production, sources added.”..

'Veronica' is out of the closet

'True' story VERONICA is being called one of the scariest movies ever made ..

Critics and Netflix fans alike are raving about it, heralding Paco Plaza, it's director, as a genius for creating what is being dubbed 'the scariest horror movie ever'..

MORE: Telling the story of a young girl, who has to raise her younger siblings as her mother is absent, it takes familiar horror tropes and adds a dose of reality..

Young Veronica and her friends take a break from looking after the siblings and mess about with the Ouija board during a solar eclipse - worse time, who knew? Trying to summon the spirit of a dead friend, they accidentally disturb the spirit of her dead father - and then something or rather someone else...

AND there is a blind nun.
 Nothing scarier than that..

WHILE VERONICA is being said to be based on a true story, there is some loose playing with facts to create an intense horror flick: The events all took place in 1992 when a young girl in Vallecas, south Madrid, was briefly hospitalised and died after dabbling with a ouija board.

The story begins with three friends playing with a Ouija board and ends three days later with Jose Pedro Negri, a police detective who entered a house to find it full of strange smells and noises.

It is said to be the only time the word ‘unexplained’ marks a police file...

Nostalgia and the beauty of STRANGER THINGS' music

This song, KIDS from the STRANGER THINGS soundtrack, has a melancholy but mesmerizing tone..It reminds me of a less incredulous time. It spawns memories in the nostalgic portion of my brain to form—glimpses of my past, my childhood, my friendships, my parents singing me to sleep ..
It is the soundtrack to nostalgia, in a sense.

There is something magical about most of STRANGER THINGS. But this song, as of late, has become a strange addiction… And as much as I hate the scourge of nostalgia, this song does nothing but open up more of the total recalls ..

A CDC researcher left work sick two weeks ago — then vanished »

Dr. Timothy J. Cunningham had been a rising official at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Harvard-educated epidemiologist was promoted in July at the U.S. Public Health Service in Atlanta and contributed to responses following outbreaks of Zika, Ebola and health emergencies caused by Hurricane Sandy. He also was a prominent fixture in the Atlanta community, earning a spot in Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 Awards last year.

But the researcher, who studies disease patterns, was not feeling well Feb. 12 and left work around midday

Cunningham, 35, hasn’t been seen or heard from since, his family and police have said, sparking a $10,000 reward offered by the family in partnership with Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta for information leading to an arrest and indictment in connection with the incident.

“I feel like I’m in a horrible ‘Black Mirror’ episode,” his sister, Tiara Cunningham, told the New York Times, referencing the dystopian sci-fi television show. “I’m kind of lost without him, to be quite honest.”

She told the paper she speaks with her brother often, but their conversation Feb. 12 left her concerned. “He sounded not like himself,” she said. He did not reply to a text message she sent later, and their mother, Tia-Juana Cunningham, did not reach him either.

The future could be explosive

A magma reservoir potentially hidden behind an underwater volcanic crater could have civilization-ending results if it ever erupts, according to Japanese scientists.

Experts from the Kobe University Ocean Bottom Exploration Center (KOBEC) have confirmed that a giant caldera or large crater exists in the Japanese Archipelago. The crater, measuring 32 cubic kilometers, is said to be the largest of its kind and the result of an explosive underwater eruption 7,300 years ago, according to their latest study.

Sitting between the Pacific and Philippine Sea Oceanic plates, Japan is a hotbed for seismic activity, which is why scientists are keen on updating methods of predicting natural disasters. The KOBEC team has been carrying out detailed surveys of the area and published their findings in Scientific Reports.

Social media: The slums of the Net

Welcome to your new reality America... Pennsylvania... Schuylkill County.

Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot and killed 13 people and injured 20 at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999...

They were called the 'trench coat mafia' in the media. With this newfound glory of fame that the killers reached, copycat threats reigned across the country from sea to shining sea. I was a senior that year. Thankfully my stay in the school world was coming to an end. But from April through June of 1999, Cardinal Brennan and North Schuylkill faced almost daily bomb threats, shooting threats, and evacuations as a result. It became so commonplace that year, when the siren in the school went off, people treated it as a second recess in the school day.

....events since then have forced school shootings into the commonplace of American thought. We are at a point now where a body count ranging in more than a dozen makes new. Less? Maybe a byline in print. Maybe a snippet on the evening news. Media wants blood.. they want numbers. Their news vans will only travel when there is a massacre.. And the same old sort of events will happen, just about in this order.
  1. Shooting.
    1. Multiple gunmen reported.
    2. One gunmen killed/apprehended.
  2. Blame.
    1. Conspiracy theory!
      1. Paid actors!
      2. Crisis actors!
      3. Planned killing!
    2. Drugs
      1. Presciption
      2. Past counsleing
      3. Doctors who do not help or ignore problem
    3. Gun
      1. Taken from parents
      2. Purchased legally after background checks
  3. Aftermath
    1. Media
      1. Blame guns
      2. Blame medicine
      3. Blame video games
      4. Blame politicians
    2. Citizens
      1. Demand gun control
      2. Ask for teachers to  be armed
      3. Ask for a ban on certain medicines
  4. Social media
Bodies of the dead are being buried in Parkland Florida, but threats of horror are occurring all across the United States. In Pennsylvania, multiple districts have been closed multiple days. Close by, Berwick saw threats. York was closed for almost last week in its entirety.

A student from Wormleysburg has been arrested and charged with making terroristic threats after saying he'd "shoot up" his school and kill anyone who told on him, Lower Allen Township police said.. Meanwhile in York, PA: Investigators are serving an unknown number of social media companies with warrants to gather information to whoever made threats of violence against students and staff.

This week in my local district, there was a threat on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This weekend, a post was made on social media and spread abundantly about a newfound threat on Monday February 26... It was spread so far and wide that the North Schuylkill School District issued a statement to parents late Saturday that it was aware of the threat and working with law enforcement to determine its validity...

This is where my son goes. Where lots of kids go. And undoubtedly if you are reading this is Washington State, Iowa, Ohio, or Maine, you are potentially seeing similar issues. School districts suddenly under attack not by actual events, but by social media and the viral spread that messages have. So perhaps the aging me harkens back to the happier past of the Internet because I long for it..

Back when AOL Instant Messenger competed with ICQ for the attention of the youth. Social media--the way we know it today--was not even in the twinkle of the eye of a young high schooler named Mark Zuckerberg/ Fast forward to the events of our modern age? It would seem that Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and all the rest have become tools for the modern societal breakdown. The Internet is vast and amazing.

But the socials?

They seem like the plague of the net.. like the slums of a city. Like the eloquent example of the breakdown of the society at large.... These recent threats will come and go. And then there will be more. And then there will be another school shooting at some unknown location in the vast reaches of these 50 states, and we will do it all again.

What caused all of this? I heard one theory that it is the long-term effect of NAFTA, lack of jobs, neighborhood breakdown, heroin epidemic, and then the eventual school shootings from an gun-enthused and unemployed by depressed populace. I don't know. At all. Do you? I cannot comment, or opine, on matters of insanity.

This situation is so insane that I cannot even conjure any rational thoughts despite my attempts. ...I have said before and will say again, if nothing changed after 1st graders were gunned down in Sandy Hook, perhaps nothing even will.

What in always conclude with is how horrid and sad that it must be for a parent to bury a child, for a child to attend the funeral  of a friend, and a teacher to lose a student in such depravity and violence. And even if someone wants to hear more, that's just about all I can say. No sense, at all, can be made of it. We are a human species.

Intelligent enough to reach vast empty spaces of our universe, and yet backwards enough to hate and kill. Can I make sense of that?

No.. And neither can you.

True horror in Syria: '400,000 People ... Live In Hell On Earth': Bombing Of Syrian Suburbs Kills Hundreds

Reporting from NPR:

In the eastern suburbs of Damascus, a region called Eastern Ghouta, nearly 500 people have been killed in a deadly escalation by the Syrian government that began Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told The Associated Press. More than 120 of the dead are children, the group says.
"Airstrikes, artillery shells and barrels filled with TNT are being dropped on neighborhoods that are heavily populated by civilians who have no way to escape," NPR's Lama Al-Arian reports. "They're being forced into bunkers, and many of them can't even find the time to bury their dead."

"I am deeply saddened by the terrible suffering of the civilian population in Eastern Ghouta — 400,000 people that live in hell on earth," he said to the U.N. Security Council. "I don't think we can let things go on happening in this horrendous way. "
Syrian state media said rebel factions had fired shells at the Old City of Damascus on Saturday, Reuters reported.

Not even Ivanka Trump could save the NBC Olympics ratings disaster

Ivanka Trump arrived in South Korea on Friday as she takes on diplomatic duties at the Winter Olympics...
But .. not even she could help a struggling network retain viewers for its shrinking Olympics..

It ain't 1994 anymore..

For the last Friday of the often-struggling PyeongChang Games, NBC and NBCSN’s combined primetime coverage grabbed a 9.2/16 in metered market results

That is an all-time low for an Olympics that is on track to be the lowest ever.
Down 11% in the early numbers from the previous ratings bottoming out of the 2018 Games on February 17, last night’s alpine skiing, snowboarding speed skating and bobsledding filled coverage is also down 2% from the last Friday of the Sochi Games in 2014. Unlike last night’s primetime, the coverage out of Russia on February 21, 2014 was tape-delayed and only on NBC itself. Like last night’s primetime, the final Friday of the XXII Winter Games proved to be a ratings low at the time too.
When the final viewership numbers were in, the final Friday of Sochi 2014 drew an audience of 14.9 million. To go a bit bigger picture, that was down from comparable nights of Vancouver 2010 and Torino 2006. Which, as we await final numbers for last night and based on the metered market results, paints a chilly portrait of the Winter Games out PyeongChang going for a new low.
Even with Team USA currently in fourth place overall in the XXIII Winter Games, there are a lot of double-digit drops once you drill into the numbers.

And remember: In 2011, NBC paid a total of $4.38 billion for the rights to the next four Olympics. Three years later it bought another six for $7.7 billion. At the time, the deals looked to many like a sure thing.

Could it be? Are we done with the Olympics?

Just as the net news cycle completely decimated the NETWORKS (until Trump along) could the internet also have killed the way we follow the Olympics? Is the attention span of the world at large so short that we cannot even stomach a brief 1 hour of our time to take us away from the slums of social networks?
And with that said, it would also appear that NBC's notion it could score high joy with a big purchase like they made in '11 look not only like a bad risk but a huge albatross that will be around their Peacock neck for the next several Olympics to come...

.....unless another Kerrigan/Harding scandal rears its figure skating head, the winter and summer games mania could very well be a thing of the past...

....as things change.

LOGAN director James Mandgold speaks about PG related violence in movies.. “I have a lot of misgivings about violence and PG ratings. A PG film might show hundreds of people dying, falling off buildings, getting mowed down by rapid-fire guns, but you don’t feel the deaths because the ratings system dictates the amount of agony being played by the actor. In a weird way, that makes violence more palatable because when we excise the upsetting bits, we de-sensitize ourselves to death to the point where it’s almost like shooting ducks at a carnival.”..

The stranger tale of the skier who was found in Sacramento

Missing skier found in Sacramento took big rig after being lost near Lake Placid

Constantinos “Danny” Filippidis, a Toronto firefighter, was wearing the snow gear his friends last saw him in Feb. 7 before he went missing at the Whiteface Mountain ski resort in Wilmington, N.Y., prompting a massive search that included state and federal agencies…

According to police, Filippidis purchased a phone at some point.. he reports he rode in a ‘big rig’ but has no memory of what it looked like or who drove it ..

The mystery that may be shrouded forever …

An official search began a few hours after he was last seen, the New York State Police said in a news release following Filippidis’ disappearance. Search crews of about 140 people, including state forest rangers, police, resort staff and volunteers, scoured the area looking for him, said Jon Lundin, a spokesman for the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority, which runs the ski resort.

Dozens of Filippidis’ colleagues traveled to the Whiteface Mountain ski resort after he went missing.

The state’s emergency management and fire prevention department, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection also joined the search.

Hampton said he did not know Filippidis’ medical state Wednesday morning. New York State Police Major John H. Tibbitts Jr. said during an afternoon news conference that he had been released from the hospital and was en route to New York to speak to investigators. The news conference aired on the website of New York television station WNYT.

Filippidis has agreed to speak to New York police as they piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident, Tibbitts said. The state police is asking anyone who may have seen Filippidis during his trip from New York to Sacramento to call 518-873-2750

The curse of social media fame

Megan Farokhmanesh writes this in the VERGE:

An armed New Mexico man broke into the house of YouTubers Megan Turney and Gavin Free last month, forcing the couple to hide in their closet and await police. Christopher Giles drove 11 hours from Albuquerque to the couple’s home in Austin, Texas, and his “sole intent was to cause harm to someone who resides there,” according to a search warrant obtained by KXAN. Giles allegedly shot at police, who returned fire, killing Giles.
Both Turney and Free are popular social media stars; Turney is a former Rooster Teeth host and cosplayer, while Free is the creator of science and tech series The Slow Mo Guys. The incident took place on January 26th, after police received a call from a woman who said she and her boyfriend awoke to the sound of a gunshot and breaking glass. The Albuquerque Journal reports that not only did Giles’ phone include notes demonstrating a “fondness” for Turney specifically, but showed hostility toward her boyfriend, Free. “A search of Giles’ cellular phone identified various notations identifying Megan Turney and Gavin Free by name,” the documents read. “Furthermore, threatening thoughts were recorded by Giles and directed toward Gavin Free, i.e., ‘I want Gavin Free to die alone, with no children.’ ”
