A few years ago, the thoughts of controlling the weather was only the subject of science fiction novels or crazy theories in the smoke rooms of respectable scientific institutions.. It was laughed at by the media and all others "intelligence" enough to know the consequences..

In our modern day utopia, pun intended, China has not only created one, but now two, snowstorms in an attempt to rid itself of drought.. The debate is intensifying as to the notion of controlling the weather.. But in the humble opinion of the Horror Report, it's a debate that should not even occur. The victor of the debate should be common sense, but unfortunately, sense doesn't rule in our world.

What China is doing is what a lot of nations want to do. On the good side, some would help Africa, or Russia, or other nations that need assistance through either less rain or more of it.. Monsoons could be controlled. Crippling snowstorms could be stopped. Or maybe a ski lodge that has enough money and influence can create a pinpoint snowstorm to only give itself the foot of powder it so dreams of during dry times. But how long until a nation controls the weather for evil purposes? How long until one country uses snow or rain or floods as a weapon? Or droughts and tidal waves and hurricanes? The idea of a nation creating weather years ago was laughable, but now the prospect is not only very real but also existent that countries in our near future will control the weather not only to benefit themselves but also to hurt another nation.

We also live in a culture dedicated to 'going green.' People around the world are subjected to Al Gore's monotone speeches about carbon footprints and excessive levels of CO2 levels. Plants would be hard pressed to grow without carbon, and life would be hard pressed without generating it .. but we'll give Al the benefit of the doubt on global warming. After all, he has a power point made into a film, not me. And he flies around on a private jet spewing out relatively large CO2 levels, not the Horror Report. However, the global warming skeptics and promoters could agree, I hope, on the dangers of controlling nature. The globe does its own thing. The ocean currents have a pattern, which of course does change over time and will always. The way weather starts and forms is natural--with some intervention from unnatural sources like pollution. But a nation changing or altering the course of nature is dangerous. How long before China's snowstorms get too big and too crippling? How much longer before they are used as weapons? How many more storms or weather changes have to occur until we look back and ask why, we as a world, allowed nations to control the weather.

The only factor: Mother nature, guided by a force greater than all of human life put together, may only take this for so long.

The silence of a snowstorm is a gift from God. The snow falling due to the power of man is a crime against nature. And humans will have to answer for it.. either on earth or in the storm clouds above.
