I smell a rat: That is surely a strange looking rock walking on Mars..

So did you hear the one about the rat on Mars?

    No seriously.. did you?
This photo seen here been making the rounds across the Internets. It’s on fire..
It all started with a sleauths examining photos from the Mars Curiosity Rover. They found what appeared to be a giant rat slithering between two large rocks on the ‘red planet’.. MORE HERE
At first glance, you can’t really see the rat creature. But closer studying of the image reveals the animal. Or it simply reveals a rock shaped like a rat?
The story has been around for a week or two now.. But it’s getting a lot more traction. It really, REALLY, does look like an animals walking the surface of Mars.
Some have Tweeted and blogged that it’s less a rat and more a squirrel. But the term ‘Mars Rat’ has a little more fun attached to it than a squirrel. Maybe Mars Critter? The rat just caught on and Internet people ran with it.
But before you laugh it off, consider what Scott Waring from UFO SIGHTINGS DAILY wrote about the Mars rat way back in December before any of us were even paying attention to this story:  He asked what if NASA sent the rat or whatever creature to the Martian landscape in order to see how long it would live. He went on to write as to why they would not tell us:

Because the squirrel would be expected to die eventually and that would get PETA [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals] to fight against them in a court of law

While some may scoff at that possibility, it’s worth noting examples in history where nations sent chimps into the great vast wildness of the universe to see what would happen to them?  But of course the PETA thing may be a stretch. OR .. maybe not.
Chances are this is not a rat, or a squirrel, but just a plain old rock. I say that not because I am hopeful it is a rock but because it just seems too good to be true that NASA would release an image of their secret experiment or proof of life walking the red planet. However, maybe, just maybe, when I’m a gray old man advanced in age, some future NASA head will do a Friday night document dump of previously classified materials, and we will find out that, yes, indeed, a Martian rat walked in 2013.

Loose landfills: Dan Aykroyd footage mistaken for snuff film..

True story: A man found an old video in a Calgary landfill with footage from a Dan Aykroyd movie in which he’s standing over a dead body. The man gave the video to police because he thought he uncovered a real life snuff flick.
Dan Aykroyd seemed to accept the news story.. he humorously quipped to TMZ that the film should have stayed in a landfill where it belonged..
I suppose seeing something like this would have raised suspicion in any of us:
And really, who ever saw LOOSE CANNONS anyway?
But being this recent event is the best publicity the 1990 film ever got, perhaps it’s worth strolling back down amnesia lane to find out what the movie was even about anyway..
I like Dan Aykroyd, please don’t get me wrong.. I think his movie career has been great, and he’s a reputable believer and investigator of the strange and fortean. There’s nothing to dislike about him.
    Except this movie.
I recall vividly watching a few minutes of it.. and then happily turning it off.
Besides UFOs and ghosts, what Dan Aykroyd may really fear is that the 1990 dud may be rearing its ugly head again. I am sure there’s a surge on Google of people attempting to find out what the movie is about. Maybe someone out there will even buy a copy.. And after they watch it, they will take it to the police to report just how criminal it was to make such a lousy movie.
  • In a world where anything can happen, we don’t want a nuclear explosion to happen

In a world where anything can happen, we don’t want a nuclear explosion to happen

The planet Earth has enough problems with worrying about a smoldering landfill threatening nuclear waste. But that is exactly the worry of people in Missouri now that trash is burning just 1,200 feet from a landfill of nuclear material dating back to the Manhattan Project of the 1940s..
    This is a true story.
The ASSOCIATED PRESS did a big article on it just days ago.. though few people you know are talking about it, and even less know about it..
According to known facts: A layer of trash has been burning below the surface of the Bridgeton Landfill since 2010. According to the AP, the burning was fueled by an underground reaction of decomposing waste. Scientists and experts are worried that the burning material could reach the West Lake Landfill–the home of radioactive material..
One thought would be, if the fire got close, to make a barrier of soil between both landfills..
But maybe there’s nothing to see here..?
The EPA’s main goal appears not to be factually considering what is happening near St. Louis, but instead substantially trying to calm down residents.. trying to stop the fanning of flames.. trying to dispel rumors of doom..

The ROLLING STONE did an article in early May about the topic called ST LOUIS IS STILL BURNING. The article details serious health and safety concerns. They point out that the government isn’t overly concerned about it. We can tell that from the EPA statement of ‘nothing to see here’ mentality..

There’s a fire burning in Bridgeton, Missouri. It’s invisible to area residents, buried deep beneath the ground in a North St. Louis County landfill. But the smoldering waste is an unavoidable presence in town, giving off a putrid odor that clouds the air miles away – an overwhelming stench described by one area woman as “rotten eggs mixed with skunk and fertilizer.” Residents report smelling it at K-12 school buses, a TGI Fridays and even the operating room of a local hospital. “It smells like dead bodies,” observes another local.

On a Saturday morning in March, one mile south of the landfill, several Bridgeton residents have gathered at a small home in a blue-collar subdivision called Spanish Village. Concerned citizens Karen Nickel and Dawn Chapman are here to answer questions posed by four of their neighbors. “How will I ever sell my house?” “Am I going to end up with cancer 20 years down the road?” “Is there even a solution?”

Even without the fire closing in on the nuclear dump, the other main problem as described by the ROLLING STONE article is that the smoking cloudy mixture rising into the air plain stinks. It’s annoying, it’s even beyond annoying, at some points with high amounts of benzene and hydrogen sulfide airing out…
    Why isn’t anyone paying attention?
Why is the EPA seemingly just fine with all of this?
And why, with a fire burning exceptionally close to a former nuclear dump, isn’t this story getting front page status..?
We may never know answers to those whys. But we at least know the who, what, when, and where…
And for the record: The West Lake Landfill has 8,700 tons of nuclear waste.
    Food for thought.
And maybe a little snippet of why the ‘why’ isn’t being talked about..
  • Life isn’t DONNIE DARKO but sure looks like it now and then

Life isn’t DONNIE DARKO but sure looks like it now and then

Life imitates art.. In my opinion, you can’t read this story about a small Cessna plane crashing into a Virginia living room without having memories of DONNIE DARKO conjured up..

It’s amazing news that no one was critically injured, just minor.. But the whole story tells me that life imitates art more than the other way around..

No bunny suit reportedly was flu at the site, however, which is a sigh of relief for the owners of the apartment.. Time slips my set to occur with this one.
