Warner Bros and DC are in the early stages of another Batman Universe spinoff movie, this one telling the origin story of the signature villain The Joker. The studio has set The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips to co-write a script with 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. Phillips will direct the movie, and Martin Scorsese will produce it with Phillips. This will be the first film under a new banner that has yet to be named in which WB can expand the canon of DC properties and create unique storylines with different actors playing the iconic characters.The storyline reportedly will be set in the early 1980s and will most likely be a gritty crime drama..
Jared Leto will most likely NOT be the Joker, despite his reprisal of the role in SUICIDE SQUAD 2 and the HARLEY QUINN spin off..

Rocky’s Tree Service was planning to pull an eight-legged metallic object up from the ocean floor Tuesday night. But the extrication has been canceled due to deteriorating conditions on the beach, East Beach Association President Peter Brockmann confirmed.
“We’ve had high surf and strong rip tides for the past couple of days. Not sure if [it’s] related to Gert, but [the storm] will make matters worse for the next couple of days,” Brockmann said.

Horror movies function best the less their viewers know about their subjects. Think, for example, of the dapper aberration in Jennifer Kent’s The Babadook, or the faceless entity from David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows; both monsters in those films have defined rules of behavior, and more importantly, an absolute dearth of backstory. If you want to go classic, look no further than Pinhead (Douglas William Bradley), who lacks an origin story for the better part of two movies, until we learn that he used to be human in Hellraiser II: Hellbound’s climax. Once we’re privy to a snippet of Pinhead’s background, he loses his oomph as a villain, arguably not just for the rest of the movie but for the rest of the Hellraiser series. (And if you want to straddle the classic/contemporary line, recall how Rob Zombie’s Halloween films attempt to humanize Michael Myers take away from the character’s driving unfathomable qualities. He’s supposed to be evil without reason.)
