We’re not just squawking about #TheSquawk, they’re playing music again

We wrote a few weeks ago about this TikTok account we’ve been following for WSQK.. The one and only Squawk, and how it seemed like someone got green light permission to build a radio station tied to Stranger Things Season 5, but not officially through the Duffers or Netflix (at least, not that we could confirm).

Since then we’ve tried reaching out for more info to the fine British lad who runs the streams and the social accounts. We haven’t heard back yet — so we still don’t have confirmation straight from him — but from watching his videos and how the station operates, it definitely feels like it’s a fan-based station that was allowed to exist, not something Netflix or the Duffers are directly managing.

What is real and has been reported is that a real-world “WSQK The Squawk” station was launched in conjunction with the final season of Stranger Things by UK broadcaster Global, in partnership with Netflix U.K. as part of the show’s promotional experience. It plays nonstop ’80s hits, has in-universe segments like “Rewind at 9” and “Talk to Tammy,” and was set up to mirror the fictional radio station from the show…

That station has run on DAB in London, on Global Player, and through smart speakers (just ask Alexa or Google to “Play The Squawk”). It was initially planned to broadcast into January and presented by DJs like Mindy Flare and Vance Goodman .. the same voices we all grew up with (lol) ..

So it does seem as though a real, licensed, pop-up station was created around the finishing of the show and not just a random fan project. But who owns the wsqkfm.com site and runs that specific stream? That’s still unclear and we haven’t found any reliable ownership info through public record or domain lookup, so we’re not including guesses here.

Still, if you’re like us and just can’t quite let go of Conformity Gate or the nostalgia of the ‘80s, you’ve probably been blasting the WSQK playlists all afternoon — and hopefully that’s been a blast for you as well.

  • Revisiting George Harrison’s song that made WEAPONS better

Revisiting George Harrison’s song that made WEAPONS better

One of the better movies this year in the horror world has been Weapons. We’ve talked about it a number of times and there has been some debate on whether it lived up to the hype or if expectations were just too high to begin with. But all that aside, the opening sequence of Weapons sticks in your head. Kids running through neighborhood streets, the suburban landscape turning ominous, the way the tension creeps up before you realize why you’re uncomfortable.

As a matter of fact, I was at a football game last week — one of the final ones of the season — and some of the students in front of me were laughing about how the players looked like the kids from Weapons and how it was the greatest movie they’ve ever seen. They’re young. They still have the entire library of 70s and 80s horror history to experience. So we forgive them for the cardinal sin for now.

But the movie was pretty good, and that opening scene was genuinely memorable. And one of the strongest reasons why the opening hits so hard is the song choice. The George Harrison track that plays over the scene isn’t just background noise — it sets the emotional temperature. It elevates it. It whispers something the dialogue doesn’t say.

And here’s the thing: there’s a lot going on behind that George Harrison song that most people don’t know.

Beware of Darkness – What the Song Is Actually Saying

George Harrison’s “Beware of Darkness” isn’t literally about “evil” or some boogeyman in the woods. He was drawing from Hindu and Eastern spirituality, particularly the concept of Māyā — the illusion of the material world that distracts the soul.

    When Harrison sings:

    “Beware of the Maya”

    He doesn’t mean a person.
He means the force that tricks you into forgetting who you really are.

The song is layered with meaning:

    Beware of the world’s negativity.
People will try to use you. Leaders will mislead. Culture will exhaust you.

    Beware of your own sadness.
Not in the sense of denying it — but in not letting it swallow you whole.

“It can hit you, it can hurt you
Make you sore and what is more
That is not what you are here for.”

You are not meant to live permanently in despair.

    Beware of forgetting the spirit.
Māyā — illusion — convinces us that status, approval, and fear are reality.
    Harrison’s message is simply:

    Don’t lose your inner light.
Don’t let the world make you forget yourself.

Movies know how to use music when they’re paying attention.
    Weapons did.

That song wasn’t just a soundtrack choice — it was the thesis.
A warning delivered before the audience knows what’s about to happen.

And now, as we move deeper into the darker stretch of the year — colder mornings, longer nights, that creeping seasonal weight that settles in the chest — maybe the timing is fitting.

    Maybe it’s a reminder:

    Beware of the darkness.
    Beware of the sadness.
    Beware of the soft-shoe shufflers.
And yes — beware of Māyā.

Because sometimes horror isn’t on the screen.
Sometimes it’s just life trying to make you forget who you are.

  • Ozzy Osbourne’s last show on earth

Ozzy Osbourne’s last show on earth

It was the ultimate farewell, not just to the stage, but perhaps to us, the fans, who have followed him through decades of darkness, madness, and heavy metal glory.

On an emotional night in Birmingham, Ozzy Osbourne performed with Black Sabbath for what is now confirmed to be the final time ever.

This wasn’t just a concert. It was a memorial in real time and not for someone who has passed, but for a living legend whose health struggles are slowly dimming the spotlight around him. In his late 70s and facing advanced Parkinson’s disease, Ozzy appeared on stage seated on what looked like a gothic throne. Some speculate it may have actually been a disguised wheelchair — a stark reminder of his frailty, and the toll life has taken on the Prince of Darkness.

But make no mistake: the fire is still there. Joined by his iconic bandmates, Ozzy delivered five unforgettable songs .. it was not with the same erratic and chaotic energy of his youth, but with the weight of a man who knew exactly what this night meant.

There were appearances by Dolly Parton, Axl Rose, Metallica, and even Ricky Gervais. It was a surreal, star-studded celebration of a man who defied death more than once and shaped the very DNA of rock music.

Yet it was the haunting performance of “Mama, I’m Coming Home” that seemed to seal the night’s fate. The lyrics, sung with quivering power, felt less like a song and more like a goodbye — not just to his career, but to this world. The atmosphere shifted. The crowd knew. This was it.

There were no bats, no theatrics. Just Ozzy. Real. Vulnerable. Human.

The man who once howled at the moon gave us a final howl of truth .. one that seemed to say: I’m still here… but not for long.

    The show is over.
    The curtain has closed.

  • The summer of the Waffle House

The summer of the Waffle House

First the hit Jonas Brothers song.. and now with this, the music industry continues to travel deep into the Waffle House..

Lana Del Rey now moonlighting in secondary employment at a Waffle House?

Lana was dressed in the company’s blue uniform and wore a yellow name badge as she kept busy behind the counter and appeared to be waiting tables.

She was also seen chatting to some very surprised customers, before sweetly posing for photographs with eager fans at the restaurant.

It is not known why Lana was working at the venue, but fans were quick to flock to social media to share their shock at her appearance.

  • John Oliver delves into the interesting topics of concert ticket prices

John Oliver delves into the interesting topics of concert ticket prices

And if you don’t think that you’ll be interested in the topic, just give the video a minute or two and you’ll become intrigued ..

We learned quite a bit from this, including the fact that Justin Bieber and other artists have often bought up entire rows if not sections of concert venues.

We learned that when news media Talking Heads jokingly laugh that it takes longer to put lipgloss on that it does for a concert to be sold out, often times Ticketmaster does not release the full number of tickets for that venue but instead only sometimes a few thousand.

You’re being head faked and played.

We learned that despite technology and an insurance from Ticketmaster that fans come first, computer bots can buy up tickets within milliseconds and, many scalppers and un known people have up to 200+ accounts to purchase tickets immediately and resell them.

The summer concert season is here again, this time the media tells us without Covid ( except the Covid still exists).. and with prices of tickets, the autumn bankruptcy season will also begin in earnest.

  • ‘Nevermind’ album cover lawsuit against Nirvana is dismissed

‘Nevermind’ album cover lawsuit against Nirvana is dismissed

A judge dismissed a lawsuit against the rock band Nirvana over their iconic 1991 “Nevermind” album cover, which depicts a baby swimming naked in a pool.

Spencer Elden, who was photographed in a Pasadena, California, swimming pool at the age of 4 months and is now 30, filed the lawsuit in August, alleging child pornography. The photo was digitally imposed to include a dollar bill on a fishhook to make it look like Elden was trying to grab it.

On Monday, Judge Fernando M. Olguin with the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California dismissed the lawsuit after Elden missed a Dec. 30 deadline to file an opposition to the defendants’ request that the suit be tossed out.

This man was Kurt Cobain, belonging to a band called Nirvana, and it was origanally [sic] thought and still accepted as the truth that he committed suicide,” one person wrote to the FBI in 2007. “There has since been evidence found that he was killed and didn’t commit suicide as originally thought.”

The letter was among 10 pages released without fanfare or notice by the FBI to “The Vault,” an online archive. Cobain committed suicide in April 1994, leaving behind wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean.

Another: A fan urged the FBI to take the case claiming the idea Cobain had been murdered “bothers me the most because his killer is still out there.”
