Letterman’s next guest: The Netflix trailer

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctBVhyZxXYY]

    THE RETURN OF DAVID LETTERMAN..

The show will launch Friday, Jan. 12 and a new episode will be stream each subsequent month in 2018 — so the Letterman series is rather unique in the Netflix universe as it has a rather anti-binge roll-out.

The hour-long Netflix premiere will have two firsts: The former CBS Late Show host emerging from retirement and the former president giving his first on-camera talk-show chat of the Trump era.

Letterman’s lineup of influential guests includes George Clooney, Malala Yousafzai, JAY-Z, Tina Fey, and Howard Stern.

  • STRANGER THINGS 2 looks incredible

    STRANGER THINGS 2 looks incredible

The newest STRANGER THINGS 2 trailer hit on Friday the 13th .. amazing timing as always with the fine people at Netflix..

The excitement over this program is incredible. Not only are people re-watching and re-binging the first season in preparation, but there is an equal amount of re-watching and analyzing of the newest trailers..

    Before discussion.. take a glance:

      [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1ZXOOLMJ8s]

My initial thought: This is actually the weaker of the teasers and trailers for season 2.. Yes, I am inclined to wonder why Eleven is more androgynous  .. why she has more hair now and no one shaved it. why she is out of the upside down and eating Eggos in the normal world..

So many questions about her. But the trailer didn’t pay much attention to her–I think on purpose. Instead we glimpsed into the post-pubescent boys and now new friends of another gender planning something, just as the world is being taken over by giant squid creatures from the upside down.

Not viewed at all? Mike’s mom and dad. Barb..

Forgive me before moving on, but I really hope something happens to Mike’s dad. The guy was a total buffoon, I know on purpose, but  really annoyingly so.. Perhaps the ‘Reagan Bush 84’ sign that pops up in their front yard is a showcase of how his total trust in government and Reagan fight against the Commies with star wars defense weapons is an example of how he won’t be changing any time soon..
    Fair enough.

I want to know the other families, though as well.. We know only Mike and Will.. There are plenty of other kids in the show that I want to understand.. Maybe season 2 will there.

It appears from this trailer that a journalist shows up to investigate. Perhaps a conspiracy journalist.. Also, the homages being paid to KARATE KID and GHOSTBUSTERS is pretty cool. During the run-up to this release STRANGERS THINGS creators also revealed a poster showing a true and amazing tribute to another amazing movie that came out in 1984: The original NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET..

Homages aside, the character development looks very in depth. At least judging from a single trailer.. Will seems to be a main character.. Perhaps Will becomes the earthly manifestation of the upside down and Eleven has defeat him? Perhaps Nancy is the key–or just true love.

The MK ULTRA affair looks amazing in this..
    I am entirely excited.

One interesting conundrum that STRANGER THINGS 2 may have is how audiences have come to know and love Finn Wolfhard playing Ritchie from the remake of ‘IT.’ He was foul-mouthed and funny.. a complete reversal in a sense from Mike .. but not really. STRANGER THINGS 2 may feature a more mature Mike.. not sure if they’ll go as far as genital jokes and F words.. But audiences may have grown so used to it from IT that they may expect it.

But back to my thought about this trailer to begin with.. As much as I love it, I wish the final trailer released prior to the show’s October 27 binge-worthy debut would have been the one that premiered at Comic Con.. the amazing with that is complete with Michael Jackson’s THRILLER and ends with Boris Karloff’s horrific laughter.. for those who forget, this:

  • Black Mirror Mania: I love this show

Black Mirror Mania: I love this show

I love this show.. I have avidly watched it since the program’s inception onto NETFLIX.. The pigs.. The tech… The lessons of morality and the consequences of people’s dirty deeds online. The future is now. Evident in this program: The cautionary tales of horror that can happen when tech goes wrong and the virtue of an honest life..

The newest season of Black Mirror was loaded onto Netflix around Halloween. Due to a lack of time, I have yet to watch about 1 and a half more episodes. But the pure joy I have in doing so makes me actually want to take it slow.

I recall quickly moving through the entire series of STRANGER THINGS. By the time it was done, I wanted to go back and start from the beginning.

Black Mirror is a bit different. Each program makes you ponder more than the next.. Each show has twists and turns that throw your mind into a loop of madness. Each program makes you feel like it’s real and, equally so, feel a sense of dread for our collective Internet-driven future.

The far best episode in the entire series thus far (my opinion of course) is ‘Hated in the Nation.’ Some others only call this episode solid but ‘unremarkable’ but I think it is brilliant.

It takes into account a dwindling bee population and how our society may delve into tech to save the planet, and terrorism, hacking , assassination, murder, and espionage. Along with a lot of fun grammatical uses of the F and C word for emphasis. The show was pure joy.. It was over an hour long and could have easily been a successful box office hit. But thankfully because of Black Mirror and Netflix, we can have the show beamed right to our electronic devices.

In Hated in the Nation, a technology company invents a high tech drone bee to pollinate the planet. During a hack attack, someone gets the chance to control the bee population to use it for murder. A ‘hash tag’ battle begins on social media. And the person most hated in the nation becomes a victim. That is just the beginning. It weaves itself into a moral play and a final act of redemption during the post-modem and Mortem.

You just have to watch it to understand what I am talking about.. It has quickly become of the best shows/movies/things I have ever watched.

I have grown to despise so many vast portions of social media while… Of course… Using it as well. Hashtags and red flags abound … I just can’t stomach seeing the ‘trending’ words of the day. I hate myself for often looking.. But it’s how we get news. Opinions. Statements. Hell, it’s how we picked a president in 2016!

    Social media.
And antisocial disorder. They go together so well.

Black Mirror’s HATED IN THE NATION is a must watch for those nervous about social media’s power, or for those who think they can act on devices without consequence.
    There are consequences.
Perhaps in the future, the consequences will be fatal and final.

  • 1922 coming to Netflix (but we just don’t know when)

1922 coming to Netflix (but we just don’t know when)

Netflix is fast becoming (or it already has become) the best place to see scary  movies.. new series that are impeccable.. the place where creativity is flourishing lately. Thankfully somewhere, right?

Nonetheless, the newest creation that I can’t wait to watch: 1922, a Stephen King story, starting Thomas Jane..

This short story is based in 1922 and is narrated by the character of Wilfred. He confesses to killing his wife (Arlette) and believes he is being haunted. As the story unravels, one has to question if he is going insane or if he is telling the truth. It is a dark, terrifying, twisted read that is absolutely compelling..

    1922 was first published in 2010 ..

Netflix has yet to announce WHEN the show will be released for streaming.. but two central roles are filled. Thomas Jane as Wilfred…Molly Parker as Arlette.

    Can’t wait.

‘Black Mirror’ creator Charlie Brooker tells us he’s yet to see Netflix’s ‘satanic side’

‘Black Mirror’ creator Charlie Brooker tells us he’s yet to see Netflix’s ‘satanic side’:

Brooker wrote ABOUT revision as a critic.. then he wrote television.. and then he went to NETFLIX. From the article linked:

“I haven’t seen a satanic side. They’ve been brilliant,” he told Business Insider. “They’ve been very collaborative, they’ve not been like cigar chomping American execs who say: ‘Put some titties and some kids in it.’ None of that.”He added: “They’re very thoughtful and when they have notes on the script, it’s always very useful, annoyingly useful. I haven’t seen a down side. But then I would say that.”

  • Say hello to STRANGER THINGS

    Say hello to STRANGER THINGS

I have nothing but praise for the NETFLIX series STRANGER THINGS..

Additionally, I can say nothing but positive things about Winona Ryder playing a mother in confusion and grief names Joyce.. or David Harbour’s role as Chief Hopper, trying to find truth.. Charlie Heaton as Jonathon is perfect, as is Finn Wolfhard and Millie Brown as the chief child monster hunters. As a matter of fact, the entire cast is perfectly fine.

I will first say, I am not completely done with all of the shows yet. I have been purposely watching them slowly, just to enjoy each episode the best I can. I did notice, as I watch the shows,  how quick the hour goes each time.

You probably do not want spoilers. Neither do I. As a matter of fact,  plan on spacing the last few episodes out the best I can and maybe going back in a few weeks and watching them all over again.  I have even seen people online saying that they are signing up for NETFLIX for the sole reason of watching STRANGER THINGS.

    Why does it work?

I read countless articles now where authors are going through each portion of the story, the acting, the set, or the music, and comparing it to movies from the 1980s that did work. After all, STRANGER THINGS is set in 1983. The music of the era is complete in the shows—as are brilliant product placements with the old insignias and logos from yesteryear.  And yes, homages to Stephen Spielberg and Stephen King help advance the storyline. The entire series, so far for me, felt like a strange cross between ET and The GOONIES, and then every now and then Freddy Kreuger from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 the Dream Warriors shows up.   The amazing part: Regardless of what inspiration STRANGER THINGS writers and producers had when they created the series, one thing is clear: It stands alone and is epic on its own.

Undoubtedly, you can conceive of the target audience fairly quickly. Frankly, it’s people my age, 35ish. People who remember seeing Ronald Reagan on TV at night when one of their few channels featuring cartoons would be taken over by real world events. People who recall the tail end of the Cold War. Maybe a few nuclear bomb duck and cover drills under wooden desks at school, as well. People who remember a time before the Internet, and people who like everyone else have been changed by the Internet. And yes, people who tucked away their secret desire to play DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS .. Come out of the closet now. You can be proud that you have such a true group of friends on STRANGER THINGS.

The musical score of STRANGER THINGS, pop songs and just background tones combined, gives you a nostalgic and almost gleeful feel. That is how music was done in the 80s.  The John Carpenter style.  The same musical arrangement helped greatly with the movie IT FOLLOWS. And Stranger Things follows the mold.. it works..

    It all works.

    Just fine.

I will shower praise on STRANGER THINGS to anyone who asks. This is what science fiction and horror should be.. it’s how it can work, how it can utilize real life and combine it with human emotion to tell a story. Adding to the story of love and parenting and coming of age themes: The monster. The unknown monster created by the elite behind gates with barbed wires.. We are afraid of that, after all. We know the most powerful answer to no one. We know that, too often, their creations get out of hand. The monsters of Maple Street can often by ourselves. Or they can be true monsters, unhinged and unregulated by the fools who create them.

STRANGER THINGS deserves a second season. And third. And fourth.

You’d be foolish to avoid this series.

  • One of the greatest things in years: Stranger Things on Netflix

One of the greatest things in years: Stranger Things on Netflix

One of the greatest things I have ever seen (and I have only seen one of the 8 episodes so far) is the original NETFLIX show STRANGER THINGS..

There are so many things to speak of.. the 1980s nostalgic feel (especially for people like me who were incarnated in then Reagan era) .. The throwback quality to a Speilberg or Stephen King story.. the mystery of Will Byers and the town of Hawkins, Indiana coupled with some amazing acting and character development..

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o7_r1_500

The music of the series, besides featuring some pop hits of the 80s, also sounds a lot like the score from IT FOLLOWS. The set designs and color is true to the 80s and is similar to the movie HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, which was also set in the 1980s but made in the modern era..

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o2_r1_500

Thus far, only one show into the season,  I have nothing but praise for STRANGER THINGS and honestly can’t wait until my next free hour to continue the ‘binge.’  A binge on shows between work, parenting, and soccer practice can get rough.

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o6_r1_500

Spoilers will abound if you read certain reviews.. I will not spoil anything, but instead just argue that you need to join in the fun and get watching this series.. I implored friends and family. And now you, my readers..

That is all well and good. But I just wish they’d stop touching the kid shows. Every time my son develops a love for a series on NETFLIX, it vanishes with their updates..
