    Coach Didier Deschamps said earlier Saturday the team were taking action to stop the spread of illness, which has affected a number of players.

    Central defensive pair Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate missed training on Friday, along with winger Kingsley Coman, while midfielder Adrien Rabiot and defender Dayot Upamecano did not play in Wednesday’s semi-final win over Morocco.

    A second journalist covering the FIFA World Cup in Qatar has passed away ‘suddenly’ in a matter of days.

    The Gulf-Times confirmed that Al Kass TV photojournalist Khalid al-Misslam had passed away ‘suddenly’ while covering the tournament.

    The outlet wrote: “Al- Misslam, a Qatari, died suddenly while covering the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. We believe in Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for him, and send our deepest condolences to his family.”

    WORLD CUP SHOCK.. Grant Wahl dead in Qatar.. 

    American journalist Grant Wahl has died while covering the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to a video posted by his brother Friday evening 

    NPR confirmed Wahl’s death while covering the Netherlands-Argentina quarterfinal match in Doha and US Soccer confirmed the news in a statement 

    Wahl, 48, was ‘healthy’ before he collapsed during a game Friday, according to brother Eric in an Instagram video he posted. 

    Eric, who is gay, said he believes his brother – who was detained before the USA-Wales match for wearing a rainbow flag shirt – may have been killed 

    Wahl said: ‘I am the reason he wore the rainbow shirt to the world cup. I do not believe my brother just died, I believe he was killed’ .

    Iran’s state media has called for the US to be kicked out of the 2022 World Cup after the United States Soccer Federation changed Iran’s flag on its social media platforms to show support for protesters in Iran.

    The federation had temporarily displayed Iran’s national flag on its official Twitter, Instagram and Facebook accounts without the emblem of the Islamic Republic. A now-deleted graphic of the Group B standings posted on Saturday displayed the Iranian flag only bearing its green, white and red colors.

    US Soccer told CNN on Sunday that it wanted to change the official flag for 24 hours to show “support for the women in Iran fighting for basic human rights” but always planned to go back to the original flag..
