  • The Flood: Who will save our children. Part 2

The Flood: Who will save our children. Part 2

The news this Fourth ofJuly in Texas could not be more unbearable to read..

So many lives lost, unaccounted for.. so much misery from flooding with more rain set to hit the same areas..

    JULY 4TH CATASTROPHE IN TEXAS
    MASSIVE FLOODING
12 INCHES OF RAIN PER HOUR
    KIDS FROM CAMPS MISSING

    Widespread damage
    Camp Mystic ground zero

Severe flooding has left at least 24 people dead in Kerr County, Texas, Sherrif Larry Leitha said at a news conference Friday night.

There was also an additional fatality in Kendall County, but it’s not immediately clear if it is related to flooding, he said..

In Comfort, TX, the water level rose from 3’ to 29’ in just 45 minutes…

Reporting from CNN: School buses and trucks filled with rescued people drove into a reunification center in Ingram, Texas, on Friday as families reunited with their children from the nearby girls’ and boys’ camps. Search efforts remain underway for the over 20 people who remain unaccounted for from Camp Mystic, with helicopters, rescue boats and other units searching the surrounding areas.

As this unfolds, it is almost a sequel of the 1993 film THE FLOOD: WHO WILL SAVE OUR CHILDREN

    The summary of that film:

In rural Comfort, Texas, the protestant Horizon Bible church community holds its annual, supervised summer camp, with mandatory prayer sessions, for teens from all over the States. The day before their departure, storm weather is announced, the buses even ride early to keep ahead, but the river rises too fast: the buses are caught, everybody must survive on foot. As TV reporters see from their helicopter, the rising water is too fast for one bus after choosing the wrong way, children and staff must climb in trees but can’t cling on very long. Some kids break down in understandable panic, others prove true and unselfish courage, including Brad, the natural leader, every girl’s dream and the most boisterous of the pack, occasionally braving the rather totalitarian system. Worried parents fly in to the rescue center in a public school, where survivors and corpses are brought in, including that of Tonya Smith; her overprotective father heartlessly rebukes poor older brother Michael, an obedient kid who never gets a break and still is never good enough for his father’s praise, now even gets blamed for ‘failing’ to watch over his sisters, obviously brother Koons’s job, actually beyond human strength. A brave reporter can’t stand by idly as too many victims are still in desperate need for the military rescue crew to handle, but his own helicopter gets in trouble. The growing victims list and guilt feelings, even just for surviving when others didn’t, cause a flood of tears too…

The movie is based on a real event that occurred on July 17, 1987. On that day, 43 people were taken by a flash flood in the Guadalupe River near the city of Comfort. It was the worst flood of the Guadalupe River since 1932..

And now the 2025 event is occurring in real time..

May God have mercy on all of those suffering.. and may those lost rest in peace..

    X-FILES composer dead at 78

Mark Snow, the veteran television composer who turned “The X-Files” theme into an unlikely chart hit in the 1990s, died Friday at his home in Connecticut. He was 78.

A 15-time Emmy nominee, he not only scored more than 200 episodes of Chris Carter’s spooky Fox series (and both its big-screen incarnations, all starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson), he also provided the music for other series including “Hart to Hart,” “T.J. Hooker,” “Smallville,” “The Ghost Whisperer” and “Blue Bloods.”

    May he rest in peace..

  • Make sure UNCLE SAM sees you flying your flag on Fourth of July

Make sure UNCLE SAM sees you flying your flag on Fourth of July

Patriotism can be a beautiful thing—but let’s be honest, it can also be scary ..

    Hear me out.

When patriotism crosses the line from love-of-country into cult-like obsession—where questioning anything is seen as treason and nuance is dead—that’s when things start to get real weird. Not unlike, say, a horror movie about a murderous dead soldier in red, white, and blue..

Yes, I’m talking about Uncle Sam—that forgotten little 1996 horror flick that was equal parts goofy and unsettling, and somehow still echoes today in all the wrong ways.

The plot? A group of teenagers desecrate the grave of a Gulf War vet, and said vet doesn’t take kindly to that. He rises from the dead as a walking PSA for blind patriotism, and starts maiming anyone who isn’t waving a flag hard enough. Subtle? Not exactly.

But it was one of the first horror films to tap into the Gulf War era, instead of the well-worn Vietnam tropes.

Look, I’m not saying Uncle Sam is high cinema.

It had a budget that probably couldn’t cover a fireworks stand in rural Pennsylvania. But I am saying that the character was a ghoulish and weirdly memorable versions of Uncle Sam itself. And still sticks with me.

Proof that even low-budget horror can leave a mark.

    Or a scar?
Don’t even start me on JACKO!

The movie leans more toward comedic horror than psychological thriller, but watching it today, it almost feels… prophetic.

A guy in a flag hat violently enforcing “real” patriotism? Huh. Totally fiction. No modern parallels there. Nope. Nothing.

Just a cage match in the White House lawn for America 250…

Anyway, this 4th of July, we won’t be watching Uncle Sam again—not because we’re too good for it, but because the Twilight Zone marathon is on, and nothing screams “American holiday” like existential dread and government conspiracies in black and white with Rod Serling narrating.

Or maybe we’ll queue up that episode of Stranger Things where the mayor insists on throwing a fireworks show while literal monsters are tearing the town apart. Now that feels like the true spirit of the season.

Happy Independence Day. Light the grill, question authority, and maybe… skip digging up any graves.

  • An interstellar object is hurtling towards our solar system

An interstellar object is hurtling towards our solar system

Harvard physicist Avi Loeb revealed that the object is expected to pass by Earth on December 17, speeding through the solar system at more than 41 miles per second (roughly 150,000 miles per hour).

That means the unidentified object, which scientists are calling A11pl3Z, is moving too fast for it to get caught in the gravitational pull of our sun or any other planet.

A11pl3Z’s unusual course and speed were first spotted by astronomer Sam Deen in late June, however, it has just been flagged by the International Astronomical Union after its interstellar origins were confirmed.

Loeb believes A11pl3Z could be a large space rock or a comet, but astronomers are still figuring that out.

It’s estimated to be about 12 miles wide. That makes it much larger than the last two otherworldly objects that flew through our solar system, Oumuamua and the comet Borisov.

  • Newsom saves Hollywood?

    Newsom saves Hollywood?

Here’s a reporting from the Hollywood Reporter:

Los Angeles is going through a rough patch right now — well, for a few years actually — but there’s a silver lining ahead, at least for some film and television productions that can secure subsidies in California’s newly expanded tax credit program.

That was the gist of the blue skies mood in Burbank at The Ranch Lot Studios where a group of state and local officials, union leaders and Hollywood notables gathered to take a victory lap over the passage of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposal, which lifts incentives for film and TV projects from $330 million to $750 million annually, in the legislature.

First-ever collisions of oxygen at the Large Hadron Collider

Well, get ready for some Mandela effects over the next couple of days, right? Or so the conspiracy theorists would speculate…

From 29 June to 9 July, the LHC will switch to special operations: two days of proton–oxygen ion collisions, followed by—additional firsts—two days of oxygen–oxygen collisions and one day of neon–neon collisions, with several days of machine set-up and commissioning in between.

This campaign will cover a wide range of research, from the study of cosmic rays to the strong force and quark–gluon plasma, and the LHC experiments are already looking forward to a great harvest of new data.

  • Dust off Nicole Kidman: AMC featuring 30 minutes of ads before movies

Dust off Nicole Kidman: AMC featuring 30 minutes of ads before movies

Starting this month, those who head to their local AMC Theaters location for the latest blockbuster may encounter 25 to 30 minutes worth of ads and trailers before it starts, per CNN.

Movie ads already were … long.. but 30 minutes? …Whoa.

AMC made an agreement with National CineMedia in June that resulted in ads placed in what’s known as the “platinum spot,” the brief period that immediately takes place before a movie begins.

Typically, a screening will feature advertisements beforehand, trailers for upcoming films, and then a final brief note from the theater itself before the movie officially starts.

National CineMedia is a company that provides ads to several top competitors along with AMC, but the deal will now allow AMC to get additional ads and generate more revenue, something it sorely needs.

So maybe AMC will be little safer from major financial issues. Maybe.

Meanwhile.. Nicole Kidman is whispering “heartbreak feels good in a place like this.” After 30 minutes of course.. anything but previews feel good too.
