  • When a Song’s Meaning Changes: The Case of Take My Hand and the Gabby Petito Documentary

When a Song’s Meaning Changes: The Case of Take My Hand and the Gabby Petito Documentary

It’s always strange when pop culture does an unexpected shift—when something you once appreciated suddenly takes on a new, unsettling context. You can still love it, but there’s a discomfort now, a queasiness that lingers when you engage with it.

That’s exactly what’s happening with Take My Hand by Matt Berry, a song that has recently gained newfound attention for its inclusion in the Netflix documentary about Gabby Petito. The case of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie is unsettling, and the details surrounding her murder and Laundrie’s subsequent suicide continue to fascinate and disturb people. But one particular aspect of the documentary has caught many off guard—the song that plays in its final scene.

Take My Hand isn’t a new song. It has existed for years since 2009.. it was simply a well-loved track with a loyal following. If you look at the comments on YouTube videos featuring the song, you’ll see people praising it as far back as a decade ago. Many have even called it a “national treasure.” It was a song that people simply enjoyed—one that evoked feelings of peace, nostalgia, or even joy.

But its use in the Gabby Petito documentary has altered its meaning for many listeners. The song was reportedly on Gabby’s playlist around late August 2021, shortly before her disappearance and murder. There is debate over whether she added it herself or if Brian Laundrie did, which adds an eerie layer to its inclusion in the documentary. And now, rather than just being a song associated with road trips, nature, and life’s simple pleasures, it’s forever linked to one of the most widely discussed true crime cases of recent years.

What makes Take My Hand even more unsettling in this context is that, in many ways, it encapsulates what Gabby Petito’s life appeared to be. She was building a brand as a travel vlogger, someone who wanted to appreciate nature, embrace adventure, and find happiness in the moment. Whether that was her reality or simply an image projected online is another conversation, but the song now feels like a haunting reflection of what she was striving for.

Hearing it in the documentary, knowing what happened to her, makes the experience even more painful. The song is beautiful, almost uplifting in its melody—but when paired with the tragic circumstances, it takes on a new, sorrowful weight.

For longtime fans of the song, this change is unsettling. A song that once felt comforting or nostalgic now carries the weight of a murder-suicide and the lingering mysteries of the case. It has resurfaced on YouTube and playlists because of its association with the documentary, but now, listening to it feels different.

A few years ago, if you had it on your playlist, no one would have thought twice about it. Now, someone might hear it and immediately associate it with Gabby Petito’s tragic story. You may even find yourself having to explain why it’s still on your playlist. Some might view that as ghoulish, while others may understand that music often transcends the context it’s placed in.

There’s no right or wrong here. Personally, I still love the song and plan to keep it on my playlist. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t more uneasy when it comes on. When I heard it in the documentary, it hurt more than I expected. And now, when it pops up in my music rotation, I sometimes have to skip it—not because I don’t love it, but because I might not be ready for the emotions that come with it.

This is the strange, sometimes unsettling power of pop culture. A song, a movie, a piece of art—something that once held one meaning can suddenly take on another. And whether we embrace that shift or struggle with it, we can’t deny that it changes the way we experience it forever.

  • The dream alignment

    The dream alignment

A Dream, A Drawing, and a Planetary Alignment

About a month ago, I got a bit personal on this website and shared that I’ve had some strange dreams. I often try to remember my dreams, and I actually do sleep hypnosis before bed almost every night. I think this has helped me retain important details from my dreams. Of course, the next morning, I have to quickly write everything down before those fleeting images escape my mind.

One particular dream I had about a month ago was about a planetary alignment. In the dream, which I detailed at the time, the planets lined up perfectly in space. Not only was I able to see them clearly, but beneath each planet, their names were written. Even within the dream, I thought that was strange. When I woke up, it was so vivid that I immediately drew a picture of what I had seen and attached it to my story back in January.

Here’s the image from that dream:

Fast forward to today. Little did I realize that a real planetary alignment is actually happening—on February 28th of this year. It’s the last time until 2040 that we’ll see an event like this..

What’s bizarre is that when I saw news articles about the alignment, the images they used almost exactly mirrored what I had dreamed. They also matched the drawing I made the morning after the dream.

Now, I’m not claiming there’s any conspiracy or paranormal explanation here. But it gave me a weird sense of déjà vu—almost like the dream had come alive again.

Of course, my brain could have picked up on the upcoming alignment a month ago. Maybe I saw a snippet of it on the news or came across something online without fully registering it. That information could have stuck in my subconscious, creating the dream. Now that the event is actually happening, the dream and reality have aligned.

But still, it’s the image—the way the planets lined up in my dream, the way I drew them afterward, and now the way news sites are depicting the alignment. It all looks too similar. And that, to me, is just a little too strange.

That’s about it. I don’t have much more to say except that it’s some food for thought. Just another personal reflection on a dream I had. The planetary alignment itself is an incredible event, but because of my dream, I can’t help but feel a little bit of a phobia about it..

Can we please stop eating bats?

Clearly it isn’t working out for us anymore.

An unknown illness first discovered in three children who ate a bat has rapidly killed more than 50 people in northwestern Congo over the past five weeks, health experts say.

The interval between the onset of symptoms – which include fever, vomiting and internal bleeding – and death has been 48 hours in most cases and “that’s what’s really worrying,” said Serge Ngalebato, medical director of Bikoro Hospital, a regional monitoring center.

These “hemorrhagic fever” symptoms are commonly linked to known deadly viruses, such as Ebola, dengue, Marburg and yellow fever, but researchers have ruled these out based on tests of more than a dozen samples collected so far.

Chrissy wake up.. I don’t like this..

NASA officials now report a 2.3% chance of an asteroid striking Earth in 2032, up from 1.9% yesterday.

This equates to a 1 in 43 chance of impact, with a 97.7% likelihood that the asteroid will miss. The asteroid is estimated to be between 130 and 330 feet in diameter…

    So …there’s that now.

A 196-foot-wide asteroid has a 1-in-83 chance of striking Earth in 2032. Experts just released a map of where it could impact our planet. A newly discovered asteroid named 2024 YR4 is currently 27 million miles away. According to NASA’s Center of NEO Studies, it has about a 1-in-43 chance of hitting Earth during its closest approach to the planet, which will occur on Dec. 22, 2032.

Catalina Sky Survey engineer and asteroid hunter David Rankin wrote on BlueSky, “This is one of the highest probabilities of an impact from a significantly sized rock ever.” Scientists say that the “risk corridor” for impact currently runs from South America and across the Atlantic to sub-Saharan Africa.

That said, experts note that uncertainty is still high, and more observations are needed to confirm the projections. They also add that additional data will likely decrease the odds of the asteroid hitting Earth.

From Stranger Things to no things

Remember those rumors that Stranger Things season 5 might be chopped up into 2 different release Dates? Well, how about this surprise? There may be no release date in 2025!

Recently, the Duffer Brothers revealed that releasing Stranger Things 5 in 2025 would be challenging. Now Netflix’s chief content officer Bela Bajaria has also declined to comment on whether season 5 will premiere this year.

But they say when it does come out, trust them, you’ll love it, except by then you may lose your sight. And vision and live in a nursing home at those point…

    2. The Duffer Brothers reveal: OLDER THINGS..

The Duffer Brothers reveal: OLDER THINGS..

At a Netflix presentation of the streaming giant’s 2025 slate for press on Wednesday, “Stranger Things” creators Ross and Matt Duffer revealed that in 2026 they will be executive producing two new shows, titled “The Boroughs” and “Something Very Bad is Going to Happen,” both of which “encompass what we feel is at the core of ‘Stranger Things,’” according to Ross Duffer – “they’re stories about ordinary people who encounter the extraordinary.”

Matt Duffer added that “The Boroughs” “probably shares the most DNA with ‘Stranger Things’ because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil.”

“Only unlike ‘Stranger Things,’ it’s set in a retirement community, so that’s something different,” he quipped. “This time our misfits are a little on the older side. They ride golf carts, not bikes,” he said, in reference to the young characters in “Stranger Things” who ride their bicycles around Hawkins, Indiana.

With how long we have waited for season 5 of STRANGER THINGS, the Duffers may as well just use the current cast!

    3. So who really is looking for Jane Hopper after the big 7.4 earthquake?

So who really is looking for Jane Hopper after the big 7.4 earthquake?

Netflix’s reveal for Stranger Things 5 has fans excited.. While the release date for the highly anticipated final season has yet to be confirmed, speculation is running rampant that it will drop in October or November 2025.

Adding fuel to the excitement, Netflix’s official X accounte shared a black-and-white missing person flyer featuring Jane Hopper (aka Eleven). The cryptic advertisement teases that fans aren’t ready for what’s coming in Stranger Things 5.

The flyer raises several questions: Who’s really looking for Eleven? Is she actually missing, or is this just another layer of the show’s supernatural mystery? The document includes a real phone number that fans can dial, making this an interactive way to dive into the world of Stranger Things.

What Happens When You Call the Stranger Things 5 Phone Number?

If you call 765-303-2020, you’ll be connected to a pre-recorded message from the Hawkins Police Department. The message, though slightly garbled (perhaps to fit the ‘80s aesthetic), provides chilling insight into the town’s current state.

Here’s exactly what you’ll hear when calling the number:

“Thank you for contacting the Hawkins Police Department. Due to the recent 7.4 magnitude earthquake, Hawkins is currently under lock down to ensure the safety of our residents. The Hawkins Emergency Task Force and respondents (??) from the Hawkins PD is trying to locate missing persons (??), of which Jane Hopper is a priority. We urge you as a responsible citizen of Hawkins to assist us in our search to locate her.”

The the good times are about to roll in the runup yo the release in 2025..
