    BUFFY has been slayed

    All that buildup.. for it all to be called off.

    Hulu has opted not to proceed with its Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, starring and executive produced by Sarah Michelle Gellar. She broke the news to fans on Instagram Saturday morning.

    About a year ago, fans were excited about the return of BUFFY on the streaming platform.. Hulu ordered a pilot for the project, tentatively titled Buffy: New Sunnydale, with Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, a self-professed lifelong Buffy fan, directing from a script written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face).

    Sources described the pilot as “not perfect,” noting the Zhao’s sensibility may not have been the perfect match for the reboot.

    The fast changing nature of entertainment hit Gellar on this one, too.. DEADLINE’s Nellie Andreeva reported that she was not aware of this before it was announced.. MORE.. Gellar was notified Friday night of the decision, which came as a surprise to her. She had been in Austin, TX for the SXSW premiere of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, which took place Friday afternoon.

    In a new piece on the acclaimed Hollywood site, the organization cast a wide net to interview people associated with BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER and ANGEL.

    Both of those shows were hits in the late 1990s through the early 2000s.

    Long term readers of the HORROR REPORT may recall author “Mr Benson” writing weekly takes on the episodes as their aired.

    But producer and writer Whedon has been embroiled in an old fashioned Hollywood feeding frenzy since early winter.

    Stars from both shows socially-media distanced themselves from him.

    This event occurred after revelations of verbal abuse on the set.

    Along with that, years of other allegations of bullying have followed Whedon in his career..

    WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?

    VARIETY reports:

    Interviews that Variety conducted with 11 individuals who worked directly on “Buffy” or “Angel,” or were closely familiar with the productions during their runs on The WB and UPN, painted a portrait of Whedon as a talented, collaborative writer-producer with a pattern of inappropriate, imperious and disparaging behavior toward those who worked for him. Whedon created a “cult of personality” around himself, according to these sources. Those on the inside of Whedon’s circle basked in his attention, praise and friendship; those on the outside got the opposite: scorn, derision and callousness. (Everyone Variety spoke with did so on condition of anonymity, either so they could speak freely or out of concern for their careers.)

    Variety also reached out to 40 other actors, writers, producers and directors from “Buffy” and “Angel” — including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michelle Trachtenberg, Amber Benson, Eliza Dushku, David Boreanaz and Alyson Hannigan — all of whom declined to participate in this story.

    MEANWHILE..

    Sarah Michelle Gellar is reportedly severing her relationship with Whedon and future return shows…

    She drives a stake through the heart of her return to a show..

    In a conversation with Mario Lopez for his podcast, Gellar said she’s too “tired and cranky” now to play the famous vampire slayer.

    “What worked for Buffy was that the monsters represented, they were a metaphor for the horrors of adolescence. I don’t think it’s me, I don’t think I should be the one doing it,” Gellar said, adding that she’s “way too tired and cranky to put in that work again.”She added that she does love “that the story holds up, and that people are calling for that [a reboot.]”

    It was reported this weekend that David Boreanaz, one of the most successful Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni, has been publicly silent since Charisma Carpenter came forward to accuse Buffy franchise creator Joss Whedon of abusing his power during the show’s production. Boreanaz deleted every post on his Instagram page, leaving just a trailer for the new season of his CBS series. Fans lashed out and criticized Boreanaz for not commenting on the allegations against Whedon while other Buffy stars have spoken out to support Carpenter..

    Until now.

    \Perhaps/ some PR firms had to test waters on the best response, since clearly no response stopped being an option..

    On Sunday, David Boreanaz became the next name to go public with his support of Carpenter, responding to the actress’s original post with the message, “I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength♥️🙏”.

    Charimsa Carpenter expressed dismay over Whedon’s behavior on the set of BUFFY.. she played a high school cheerleader Cordelia Chase in three seasons if BUFFY and five seasons of ANGEL. She alleged that Joss Whedon was abusive towards her on the set…

    Sarah Michelle Gellar and Michelle Trachtenberg have publicly expressed support for their former co-star Carpenter ..

    Saying she could “no longer be silent” after previously making “excuses for his behaviour”, the actress claimed Whedon “abused his power” during the series’ run, including “ongoing, passive-aggressive threats to fire” her, and discriminating against her after became pregnant in 2002.. She alleged that Whedon called her in for a meeting in which he asked whether she was going to “keep it”, before describing her as “fat” to colleagues and putting stress on her pregnancy by making her work a late-night shoot as a “retaliatory” measure.

    BUFFY herself Gellar said she was proud to have her name associated with Buffy Summers but does not want it associated with Joss Whedon!
