The political wind coming from the cesspool nearby

I am becoming redundant.. I just wrote about the deluge of politics just three days ago. But this newest rant I am about to go on is inspired by a horror movie inspired political ad being used by the governor of my state in his bid for re-election.. A certain part of me thinks that horror icons are sacrosanct, and that they are off limits to people of a political nature..

    Because here is the thing.

I consider myself well informed on issues of political importance. I even often link up and write little quips and opinions about political situations, news of the day, and act as a bit of a small-website-that-does-not-matter pundit..

But I am so tired of politics right now..
I think it’s because, being this time of year, we are inundated with political ads, constant Facebook links, and over-bloated blowhards on TEE VEE telling us why their opinion rates higher than the other overweight blowhard..

There are a few things I have taken away from life, only 34 years into it.

First thing: Nothing will ever change. Every election will have the same shape and form.. a different party may escape with the victory, but the same tired party will always win. No new independents.. no new beliefs.. same old, same old. The lesser of two evils becomes the evil when elected, and the new guy always wears a brighter shade of gray.

Second, we will always complain that ’s election has been the meanest and dirtiest ever. No it has no been.  Maybe the cruelty has shifted and been served up in different mediums, but it is still the same as it ever was..

Third, we will still vote for the people we say we hate. That’s right.. we will complain until we step into the polling place. When don’t pull levers now, but instead touch screens. And when we do, we will vote for the same people who we have complained about for the previous two to four years. The reason? We like the security of sameness, we fear change, and we especially love the pork and sausage of financial gain that brings home every year. New sports complexes that no one visits, new arenas in towns no one heard of, and bridges to no where. Or somewhere. And we love it.

There is one more thing we will undoubtedly do after the election. We will say we did not vote for the person who won, because so often the winners immediately become unpopular and go through the same cycle of public criticism..

I often want to take a break from politics. The heat of the campaign trail is not a dry one, but instead drenched in the filth and sweat of overwhelming lies and innuendo.

I think all of the ‘news’ sites I follow on Facebook may have to change. I am growing really weary and tired of how they make everything political. Things that should not be.. like the clown thing in France.. or Ebola. Or Halloween costumes. For Christ’s sake, just let us be.. Let people be people. Give us a break from the Republican vs Democrat nonsense. If we all took a poll, a real one, we’d realize how we don’t mostly agree with either one of the two parties’ platforms.

And we will complain and decry the two party system.
And we will demand a third party..
And we will still pick the same party we claim is the lesser of the ‘two evils,’ ignoring the potential endless amount of saints that could actually come out way if we just paid a little attention to the ballot beyond the first two lines.

  • SOAKING UP THE BLOOD

    SOAKING UP THE BLOOD

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl6CGlBVpCA]

The video you see here  is an ad for a haunted house. This one was from 2013. But you’ll get the point.

It is called McKamey Manor. It’s in San Diego. And the waiting list to get into the attraction is 24,000 strong. No doubt growing not that it has found itself getting worldwide attention.

The reason so many are suddenly finding out about this is because of the extreme nature of the attraction..

Among the many enjoyable things that will take place when you go to this little gem:

    • Force feeding. Expect it..
    • Your head will be put into a cage with rotten eggs.
    • …and snaked
    • You will have your hands bound..
    • You will be placed in small boxes
    • You will be screamed at..
    • Expect to be drenched in blood, presumably not real

Things may get bad. That’s why you have to sign a waiver prior to admittance.

The trend of the extreme is all around us—from movies and the macabre to events of the real. Beheadings grace our evening news and now, as this testament provides evidence of, you can now ‘live your own horror movie’..

While some decry this place of rest and recreation and torture and rotted mayhem of the mind, others will defend it to their deaths..

You will undoubtedly judge for yourself..
The evidence of the video will speak volumes..

For me, someone who is a follower but not a fan of the paranormal, I can only state that I’d steer clear of this type of entertainment..

But not for the reasons you’d assume.

Would I be scared? Well, take a peak at the video. Of course I would be, and you would be, too..

Now, the real reason I would avoid this quagmire of a not so good time is because, while I often write about the paranormal and strange, I also write about current events.. current horrors. Real horrors.. My mind is already filled with the overwhelming gore and hatred that pervades daily news.
There are times I would just like to banish reality from my view..

A haunted house where reality and guts with gore are shoved, quite literally in this case, down peoples’ throats does not come off as entertaining to me..

Now, does the video make things look worse than they are in reality? I suppose you can say that. And I’d bet my next week’s salary on the chance that people who want the to go to the most extreme haunted locations will absolutely devour this like a flesh eating zombie.. but I wrote about those people before, too.

But there is one last valid point to make.. Should you be believer in the paranormal, the other world, and the more devious presences that some say exist, perhaps a place like this is the final place you should step foot in.. The evil that may be conjured by the actions there are intense.. Perhaps it will be enough to let the real scary show up in your life..

  • The Pro Clown world is testy over AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAKSHOW

The Pro Clown world is testy over AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAKSHOW

When AMERICAN HORROR STORY: FREAK SHOW debuted this month, strong ratings gave the show one of the biggest premieres. Ever..

But the theme of the show was unsettling to some who enjoy the finer things in life. Such as clowns..

According to various reports now, the ‘pro clown’ community is freaking out over the freak show. While it is strange to even comprehend an entire community of people being pro clown, it appears to be the case..

The show’s scariest character is killer clown. In all actuality, the role in the show actually has people truly freaked out..  People are scared .. and real life clowns are lamenting the bashing of their cherished trade.

Clowns in pop culture are nothing new.
When I was young, Pennywise the Dancing Clown appeared in the television adaption of Stephen King’s IT. Tim Curry’s role as the dancing clown was haunting and effective. Until FREAKSHOW, Pennywise may have been the scariest clown to grace our society..

Michael Myers is also a bit of a clown–the blank face of pale death is reminiscent of the appearance of the zany circus actor. Even professional wrestling tried the clown role with “DOINK and Dink” in the 1990s–of course he was a good guy at first and then took on the role of a villain.

    Why are clowns scary?

You may want to check out an truly amazing and listenable GROUND ZERO WITH CLYDE LEWS radio program from the other evening he called “MEDIEVAL CARNIVAL 666.” Lewis did he best to track back the origins of the pale white figure to the Middle Ages, when clowns were introduced to the masses dying from the Bubonic Plague. The clown’s appearance was devised to mock death–the embellished aspects of a clown all had a meaning to represent some part of the process of the body decomposing.

In a 1989 PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER article, the paper profiled a fiction play –based on reality– in which the church employed a squadron of clowns to entertain the dying.  But clowns could be traced back even further than the dark times of the middle ages.. Some say they can be found in ancient Egypt in 2400 BC.  The ghostface appearance came somewhere in the 1800s..
Film and literature always made them seem scary..
And the fear of clowns blossomed into the phobia it is today.

Even the SMITHSONIAN studied the reasons why clowns were so frightening in a 2013 report. They conclude that people have been fearful for centuries of the appearance of a clown.

Recent news has given us more reason to be unsettled.. Only days ago, parts of California were haunted by the appearance of a clown at night named Wasco. Some reports actually had children claiming that clowns were chasing them around the streets at night with an ax.

The notion of a clown showing up at a time when reality has become unfathomably scary is frightening in itself. Imagine the planet suffering through deadly disease, a possible upcoming food crisis, droughts and plagues, and beheadings across the Middle East, and a clown shows up to sit on your local park bench. Armed with the persistent smile, balloons.. or an ax to chase a child across town..

    Goosebumps times 50…

Some disagree that clowns represent death–as we see from the outcry over AMERICAN HORROR STORY, the pro-clown posse is existent.

I argue, though, that they do. Or they at least represent the attempt to mock death–the wild actions and bizarre makeup do have corpse-like features. And more, their mischievousness is tame at face value but also disturbing in a deeper way. Perhaps that is why children jump in fright so often when they initially come in contact with a clown.. especially a clown out of the element, a place such as a bus terminal or under a street light in the middle of the night..

We all seem to be a little unsettled by a clown..But we also latch on to staring at them when we see them. That may explain the amazingly high ratings of AMERICAN HORROR STORY..

So while the clown troupe is annoyed with the representation of their job, perhaps another group is going to get angry at the latest FREAKSHOW.. In the latest episode, conjoined twins played by Sarah Paulson disturbed viewers even more with the singing of the song CRIMINAL by Fiona Apple.. Let the outrage over that begin.

    Read and weep.
    Promises to keep..
    Hold you head high..
    The end is not nigh.

Ebola is spreading.. some scary math portends that the spread of the disease is going to continue..

I want to thank readers who have been sending me THIS LINK for a few days now.. The headine is: EBOLA VACCINE ONLY WORKS ON WHITE PEOPLE. To those who believe this article, please understand what the website is: PARODY. The information is wrong. It’s a joke. IT’s not real. And you fell or it. And with the amount of times I have seen the article shared, apparently a whole lot of people fell for it. There is one thing I have learned online after 14 years of this website.. it’s to check sources. Actually a triple check method is good. If you find an article, get the source of the information..after getting that source, find the source for the source. And finally, go and search for other articles that have some frame of reference to one of the many sources, and a site you can actually trust. When all else fails, read the legal disclaimer on a website. There you will find the “this is for entertainment purposes only” information. Sorry.. a little angry when I constantly see this bogus joke site being credited as having newsworthy information–and typically, quite frankly, racists are the ones sharing it.

This seems to be a true and honest justifiable person to claim the honor of having a Nobel Peace Prize: Malala Yousafzai..Well earned.

The Koreas are at it again.. this time gunfire has been exchanged. There is also some mysterious questions being asked: Where did Lil Kim go? Kim Jong UN, the boy leader of one of the most deadliest regimes in the world, is gone. Where?? Who is in charge? Questions..questions..questions. No answers, but gunfire and constant threats of a re-ignition of a Korean conflict are always there.

At the young age of 57, Jan Hooks, a Saturday Night LIVE veteran, dies..Her agent confirmed the death. No further details were provided at the time it was released.. Her career has been inactive for several years.

While this may be good news for some of the people who still think that UNDER THE DOME has a semblance of entertainment value, it does not affect me much: I will not be watching the third season. Nonetheless, UNDER THE DOME has been renewed for another crapfest of shows, it will return to us in the summer of 2015. The TV adaptation of Stephen King’s book has gone under the dome itself, with each show becoming worse than the one before.. We have been given a large heap of nonsense. CBS calls it entertainment, they attempt cliffhangers with poor dialogue and even worse acting. For those who love it, they get another set of episodes. Enjoy the garbage you’re fed, sheeple.

HORROR in Hollywood makes a comeback. ANNABELLE has helped.. some other movies coming may inspire more creativity, too.. Horror is not dead. But hopefully the dreadful drought of good movies is.

NEW YORK TIMES reviews AMERICAN HORROR STORY..
    A
s for me, despite my best intention on giving the show a chance, I just didn’t like it. Minus a few freaky scenes, I found it dull and unconvincing .. Maybe as time goes, it will improve. At this point, I may have already given up on it, much to the chagrin of some friends who are telling me how wrong I am.
Speaking of freaky scenes, here is one:  Though there is some debate as far as whether the premise of the clown killer from AHS was copied off of something else, clearly for modern entertainment and clown haters, this scene takes the take as the worst way to end a date..

Finally, at least finally with this update, here’s a little history lesson on how clowns became scary. Good article, but I just want to reinforce what clowns really symbolize: Their noses swelled, their eyes darkened, their skin pale white, their feet and hands swollen up, and their outfit colorful. They symbolize death itself, the signs of death are upon them, and their attire is to mock the darkness. That is why they are scary. Because deep down, even if we did not meet Death yet, we know the signs and symbols.. Clowns are just that: The personification of the child eater, the pedophile, and the deeply disturbing corpse look.  That is why you fear them.. That is why, even if they make you laugh, their very presence makes you feel just a wee bit uncomfortable..

Though I think we are getting over saturated with fake parodies of movie trailers..

For God sakes, leave Woody alone! Is nothing sacred!?

  • FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS OUT: HIGH HOPES FOR HORROR FLICK ‘ANNABELLE’ AS MOVIE OPENS

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS OUT: HIGH HOPES FOR HORROR FLICK ‘ANNABELLE’ AS MOVIE OPENS

    $40 MIL?

    OR $30..

There are high hopes for horror.. the winds of fear are bringing in October tonight as the movie ANNABELLE finally gets its long awaited premiere.. Those I have spoken to tonight say theaters are crowded and people are screaming. Some are laughing.. others are decrying how ‘bad’ the movie was. All of those opinions are being Facebooked and Tweeted, Tumbled and Instagrammed.

    But messages are mixed.
ANNABELLE’s late night debut last night only brought in $2.1 mil–lower than the CONJURING’s $3.31 mil.. It’s also lower than the second installment of the PURGE film.. Good news for ANNABELLE, those other movies were released in the summer.

Time will tell.. By Sunday we will know if horror is alive and well at the box office or if this slump is permanent.

If I had to go out on a limb right now, I’d predict $36 mil based off of all of the information I have currently.

    We shall see..

    Good luck Annabelle.

  • The dawn of a new dead

The dawn of a new dead

A friend of mine posted photographs of herself with blood dripping from her mouth and her limbs hanging off.. it’s not every day you see such things. After an inquisitive message was sent asking where she was able to masquerade in broad daylight as a brain eating zombie, I found out she was an extra in a film called THE SOULLESS. Luckily, I followed a chain of people and was able to interview the director, Chris Eilenstine, of the film.. I am inspired by what he said.

Let me first step back a bit.. Zombie movies are out of control. They are everywhere.. and they are hungry for viewers. Most zombie flicks I have seen featured the same tired and lackluster acts. The dreadful soundtrack along with the blood curdling noises of the dead slurping up cartilage and brains. That gets tired, quickly..

There have been a few gems in heap of trash, but those are far and few between. One such movie that made me scratch my head by yet appreciate the desire to do something different was PONTYPOOL.

The SOULLESS sounds different. It is inventive, and it does not sound one bit like anything I have seen before.

Chris Eilenstine started making movies when he was 14. He has a long history of productions behind him. The movie THE SOULLESS is in post-production.

According to the information, Eilentine’s film is budged at $50,000—a low budget film by any definition. But when you consider the plot, you may want to give it a try.

soullessEilenstine gave the HORROR REPORT the backstory on the film. The movie is the story of David and Nicole Peterson, a father and daughter who have survived a genetic plague that has turned the majority of the  human race into a primitive, animal like race. David and Nicole have a special immunity to these new humans.

Here is where things get different: The main characters are completely ignored by them and can  walk amongst them without fear of being attacked.

Eilenstine  said that he conceived of this idea while reading an article of the mapping of our DNA and that aging is not decay, but  a form of mutation we go through in life.   “I wanted to tell the story of a scientist who rewrites our DNA and sends us back to the beginning. He does this  believing the human race will destroy itself unless he helps it. So he releases a virus and ‘reboots’ humanity.”

The majority of THE SOULLESS was shot in Monmouth County, New Jersey. That’s where my friend was able to don her best zombie attire to rampage the streets as an extra.

Eilenstine seems intent on recreating the zombie genre, toying with the concept almost like the scientist who rewrites DNA. Eilenstine said,

This film series is very different than other zombie films. It has gore, but never dwells on it. It is used in the way I believe gore should be used- to horrify, not just shock. But The SOULLESS is very much a human drama about David and Nicole and he will do anything to keep her alive and try to give her a chance at a normal life. It is also a very sci-fi driven storyline, with a horror framework. The ‘Zombies’ of the story are a surprise, and I do not want to spoil that for anyone. The series is so different in fact that we adopted a tag line for it that goes ‘Forget Everything You Know About the Living Dead…THE RULES HAVE CHANGED!’.”

Eilenstine joked, “There are no shambling, decomposing corpses digging themselves out the grave and eating brains in this series. The ‘zombies’ are all sympathetic characters, some are animals, yes- but still human, still deserving of existence.”

The rules have changed indeed. The idea of a sympathetic zombie is reminiscent of the mellow and mild mannered Frankenstein that appeared on film decades ago. Are we ready for zombies with (and without) a heart?

Eilenstine is no stranger to horror. It’s his favorite genre, along with science fiction. He said that George Romero and Alfred Hitchcock were his inspiration. And it was the movie ALIEN, along with DAWN OF THE DEAD, that moved him enough to make movies himself. He told the HORROR REPORT, “The visual style of Romero’s films influenced me greatly. Today I really look forward to learning more about the independent horror market and the people making them. There is a lot of interesting work being done in this genre today.”

1013722_10204886015660482_699038867214194339_nBut what scared Chris Eilenstine? Zombies? Slashers? Darkness at midnight hour? No.. not at all. What scares him is what scares me–and what should scare all of us. Eilenstine said, “People who feel that the lives of other people are worthless, and those who believe people who think differently than them deserve to die.”

“They are the true monsters,” he finished, “they scare the hell out of me.”

While low on budget, the SOULLESS appears to be in depth on horror on even more on the big pictures in life. One big picture is death. Eilenstine revealed, “The Soulless does explore these ideas, and in ways that will be fresh and thought provoking for those who view it. It is my sincere hope that when THE SOULLESS becomes a series it will be a show people passionately discuss and think about.”
The HORROR REPORT looks forward to thinking about it, and seeing the film. We will certainly pass along any other information as it becomes available.

THE SOULLESS is a trilogy Part One: Z-DAY is scheduled for December 2014 with Part 2: Sanctuary for the late spring and Part 3: Revelations in the late summer, 2015.

  • HORROR SINKS TO NEW LOWS

    HORROR SINKS TO NEW LOWS

FORBES: The Scary Future Of The Hollywood Horror Film »

Maybe a sign of things to come if things to come don’t improve, moviewise.

It’s been a bad year all around for films .. in general. Not just horror, but drama, action, family.. You know the genre and I’ll name the flop, or the film that underperformed at the box office. At least in the United States.

There are a few cultural things happening. China and other nations increasing in wealth are fast becoming the target audience for many movie companies. That’s why China’s censors get such ability in choosing what should be cut from certain films. Even more than that, independent films are just better lately. More imaginative and fresh, less confined and restricted by the red tape and bureaucracy that Hollywood offers filmmakers.

But .. as far as horror itself, Scott Mendelson is correct in his FORBES story.. Horror is taking a hit.

There may be one external factor causing that..

Over the past 12 or so years, movies have ramped up the blood and gore, almost making that the central point of a movie overtop of even the actors or dialogue. And with news headlines and real life events being a hell of a lot scarier than any fiction on the screen, people just aren’t buying it ..  What does sell, though, are paranormal tales of demon possession, haunted houses and haunted dolls. The CONJURING did well. I think ANNABELLE will, too..

The audience is evolving, as it does every ten or so years.

This may have becoming a tired saying on my part, but I argue that horror movies and professional wrestling speak volumes about our pop culture at any given time you look at it. In this instance, our world is violent and bloody. So gore doesn’t scare people much more anymore, they frankly are tired of seeing it. What does scare them? The idea that someone dark and sinister is present in the world.

If movie makers can key in on that fear and create new and exciting movies, then it will be a hit.

Finally, I’d dare say that if some movie maker out there created a big studio version of SLENDERMAN, a new series would be born.

Until then… it’s no go for bad movies.

  • A zombie movie with a fresh start

A zombie movie with a fresh start

The HORROR REPORT interviewed Chris Eilenstine, the director of a zombie flick named THE SOULLESS.

The movie looks amazing, and the storyline is fresh and inventive..  Eilenstine was kind enough to take some time and discuss the movie and his background.

The HORROR REPORT will have a full story about this, and feature some interesting back story on what makes Eilenstine tick..

Watch for that in the coming days.

  • The beheading of Palmira Silva

    The beheading of Palmira Silva

Here is a troubling story from across the pond.. A Christian woman of Italian descent was found beheaded in her garden in a London Suburb.. Palmira Silva, 82, beheaded..

Reuters reported that she was elderly and authorities are saying it was not a terrorist act..  So… we’re talking an every day run of the mill beheading as opposed to one of a terrorist nature. Right? Of course we see some more online sources have a bit more of the blanks filled in compared to Reuters.. such as the fact that it was a beheading taking place in the broad daylight.. the machete wielding man was ‘menacing’ others prior to this beheading.

And the other sort of unsaid fact: Edmonton has a higher than usual  Muslim population.

While this may not be a terror act, could it not be a terrorist inspired crime?

Oh, and finally, this: Locals in the town told reporters that the suspect beheader converted to Islam last year.
