  • Valentine’s Day Mars Rover massacre: The final words

Valentine’s Day Mars Rover massacre: The final words

After all these years–15 to be exact–the Mars Rover is dead.
    Gone..
    Transmission last..

But it was a miracle in nature!

After all, NASA’s six-wheeled rover landed on the red planet in January 2004 for what billed as a 90-day mission. The robot was still going until a dust storm on Mars last summer killed it.

From 2004 until now.. Many of you reading this today were just born in or around 2004.. from your youth until this final message from the Red Planet, we have been hearing from a distant friend, in a way..

Abigail Fraeman, the deputy of project science for the Mars Exploration Rover mission at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, wrote this in a poignant and emotional WASHINGTON POST article,

Tuesday’s communication attempts began with a “wake-up song” played at mission control. The mission’s principal investigator, Steve Squyres, had chosen “I’ll Be Seeing You,” as performed by Billie Holiday. At 8:10 p.m., Holiday’s wistful voice floated up from the command floor. “I’ll be seeing you in all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces,” she sang. Tears welled in my eyes.

Opportunity — or Oppy, as we affectionately call her — has been in my heart since she touched down on Martian soil 15 years ago, in January 2004. I was 16 and a high school student at Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, Md. I loved space, and I couldn’t believe my luck when the Planetary Society offered me the chance to watch Opportunity land at JPL through its Red Rover Goes to Mars program. I was with the science team when we saw Oppy’s first images of Mars pop into view on large projection screens that surrounded the room. Instead of the rocky volcanic plains previous Mars landers had seen, Opportunity revealed a sea of sand with a strip of white bedrock poking through.

Opportunity was, actually, the second rover that NASA managed to land on Mars back in 2004. The tests and data found concludes that Mars was once able to hold life.. that waterways once roams around the now dusty dirt.

But today, Valentine’s Day, a heartbreak: The final words of the Mars Rover.. seemingly painful to read, even though a machine beamed them..

A science reporter, Jacob Margolis, scientists at NASA said the last message they received from Opportunity effectively translated to, “My battery is low and it’s getting dark.”

NASA published their “Opportunity, Wake Up!” playlist on Spotify. It contained hits like “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham!, “Here Comes the Sun” by The Beatles, “Life On Mars?” by David Bowie, “Telephone Line” by Electric Light Orchestra, “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor, and “I Won’t Back Down” by Tom Petty.
But the battery went low… it got dark…

HALLOWEEN producer Jason Blum that he doesn’t want to stop at just one sequel and hopes the film’s success could inspire 10 more sequels.

“We had talked about it but right now we’re not shooting any Halloween movies right now because we don’t have deal rights to the sequels,” Blum admitted to Moviefone. “But I certainly hope to make 10 more but I’ll start with one more.”

  • The wild Romans and the Cupid they gave us

The wild Romans and the Cupid they gave us

Imagine the scene: A naked herd or folks dancing while the sacrifice of animals takes place..

There are smiles and cheers, and hopes that the burning animals will get the gods to give the dancing nudes fertility..

Oh, and then while the Romans would continue in their deadly pagan rituals, men would draw names from jars and, for the duration of the festival, be ‘coupled’ with them.

All of this is described in this 2011 NPR story authored by Anne Seipel.. It showcases some of the darker origins of Valentine’s Day..

And just as Christians always took on pagan traditions to make them their own, the same occurred here as reported by Seipel:

The ancient Romans may also be responsible for the name of our modern day of love. Emperor Claudius II executed two men — both named Valentine — on Feb. 14 of different years in the 3rd century A.D. Their martyrdom was honored by the Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.

Later, Pope Gelasius I muddled things in the 5th century by combining St. Valentine’s Day with Lupercalia to expel the pagan rituals. But the festival was more of a theatrical interpretation of what it had once been. Lenski adds, “It was a little more of a drunken revel, but the Christians put clothes back on it. That didn’t stop it from being a day of fertility and love.”

Around the same time, the Normans celebrated Galatin’s Day. Galatin meant “lover of women.” That was likely confused with St. Valentine’s Day at some point, in part because they sound alike.

There is more to the story besides the NPR article..

Countless news bits from history showcase the reason for the season.. the Roman Festival of Lupercalia  is the heart of the whole thing, no pun intended. One highlight of the many things that occurred there: Two high-born young men stripped naked and sacrificed a dog and a goat. They smeared blood on their foreheads, then wiped it off with wool dipped in milk.. Sounds somewhat like the Bohemian Grove, don’t you think?

I am a romantic at heart.. of course when you have a child, your romance takes a little bit of a back seat to the more practical parenting moments. But regardless, I still think love in the air is one of the most beautiful things ever–but Valentine’s Day? Lust seems to be in the air.. fake emotions, and fake flowers.. the offensiveness of men ordering giant bouquets of flowers and sending it to women at work always made me chuckle at its ridiculousness. It’s all for show–and more of a modern way of dancing to the gods of fertility..

Restaurants will be filled tonight with the hopeless dopes who will spend way too much money on a dinner they’d much sooner make themselves to save time and effort.  That’s not how we used to do it … paganism was much more raucous of a show…

    But it’s all about show..

The search is on for “lost” HALLOWEEN 5 footage

Halloween 5 was abyssmal .. it was one of the most atrocious Halloween movies.. horror movies.. movies.. ever made..

But in the era of nostalgia, there is an apparent hunt now taking place for LOST FOOTAGE of the fifth installment of the film..

    From SCREEN RANT:

Halloween 5 isn’t a particularly beloved entry in the series, featuring nonsensical story beats like Jamie’s psychic connection to Michael and a mysterious Man In Black who appears throughout the story. It’s also laden with bad dialogue and annoying teenage characters, but it has some charm as a low-budget slasher movie too. A fair amount was trimmed from Halloween 5prior to release, but now the HalloweenMovies Twitter account has revealed they’re actively searching through the original footage for these missing scenes.
The most famous Halloween 5 deleted scene was the original opening, which took place in the immediate aftermath of the fourth movie. Michael escapes from pursuing cops and his unconscious body was originally found by a devil worshipper named Dr. Death. He takes Michael back to his place, tattoos the cult of Thorn tattoo on his wrist and resurrects him the next year with a spell. Michael isn’t particularly grateful though and gruesomely kills him upon awakening. Other missing footage includes deleted gore, such as Michael wiping out an entire S.W.A.T team and Jamie being stabbed in the leg. There are also reports Michael’s burned face was seen during his brief unmasking.

Here is yet another image circulating the world wide web of Will Smith starring in the new film:

    Will Smith, Aladdin

E ONLINE writes that people are making memes and expressing laughter and expressive revulsion at Smith in costume..

But why is the HORROR REPORTERS freaked to the core?
Because of HOW MUCH this Will Smith creation looks like another one that never was real in this reality.. Smith looks a mighty bunch like the memories so many people had of the movie SHAZAM with comedian Sinbad. The movie that did not exist.. right?

Back in DECEMBER the HORROR REPORT initially began picking up on the INTERNET of things concerning this film.. at that time, people were commenting how much the new version of Aladdin was a complete copy off of Sinbad’s version..

So many on Twitter came to find out the hard way that they had just entered the Mandela Effect zone.. the location where memories became false and truth becomes distant..

  • Georgia wants to tax Netflix.. while Netflix paid $0.00 in taxes…

Georgia wants to tax Netflix.. while Netflix paid $0.00 in taxes…

Georgia lawmakers are pushing for a tax on digital video, books, music and video games…

    Image result for netflix tax

That means residents of the states would Netflix, Chill, and pay … they would pay more for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Kindle e-books, iTunes music, Spotify and internet phone services.

Those who are already connected would pay the price: They’d bear the cost of the 4 percent tax, but its benefits would go toward rural residents who lack high-speed access to online products..
And who, you may ask, also wants the tax?
    LOBBYISTS!

Nearly 60 lobbyists for cable, TV and cellphone companies are making an argument that it’s only fair that every service be taxed equally. Currently, various taxes and fees cover cable TV and phones but not satellite TV and internet video.
The resistance comes from legislators who oppose new taxes, consumers who would pay the tax and Dish TV, which doesn’t stand to benefit from government funding of rural internet since it already provides satellite-based online access to those areas. Before a similar digital tax proposal failed last year, Dish TV ran TV ads urging viewers to “Stop the Georgia TV tax!”

Meanwhile if you, as a viewer and service purchaser, ends up paying taxes for viewing hit bingeworthy shows, consider this:

The popular video streaming service Netflix posted its largest-ever U.S. profit in 2018—$845 million—on which it didn’t pay a dime in federal or state income taxes. In fact, the company reported a $22 million federal tax rebate.
