Think of the children!! FACES OF DEATH getting a remake

The original claimed it was banned in 48 countries! But that didn’t stop your friend but somehow getting a hold of the VHS and sneaking your classmates into his living room to get grossed out for 113 minutes. The childhood rite of passage of the 1980s, though disjointed and horrid, is making a strange comeback.

This is how Borys Kit from the HOLLYWOOD REPORTER pens it,

Legendary Entertainment, currently basking in the box office glow of hit Godzilla vs. Kong,  has picked up the rights to the title with the goal of launching a new horror franchise. Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the team behind the 2018 psychological thriller Cam, will write and direct, respectively. Producing will be Susan Montford and Don Murphy of Angry Films, who are behind Legendary’s fast-tracked multiplatform Buck Rogers reboot, are producing. Cory Kaplan will co-produce while Rick Benattar of BT Productions will exec produce. John Burrud, the producer of the original movies, will also work on the new iteration.

The original version filmed in 1978 had the premise of traveling the world to see the most gruesome and detestable ways to perish. Death abounded in the film. .While many of the scenes of the movie were staged, it did not matter for the mostly young audience of kids in the Reagan era. And with each parental or adult warning to stay away from Faces of Death..

Much has changed since the 80s. While the revulsion of this film shocked parents who found out their kids saw it, the internet has opened the door to countless chances to see even worse. And real .. So how will the filmmakers create a new plotline that relates to our modern age of the 21st century? This is the possible plotline outlined by the Hollywood Reporter:

The new plot revolves around a female moderator of a YouTube-like website whose job is to weed out offensive and violent content and who herself is recovering from a serious trauma, who stumbles across a group that is re-creating the murders from the original film. But in the story primed for the digital age of online misinformation, the question is: Are the murders real or fake?

Those who did not live through the last two decades of the 21st century may not realize how both magical and stunningly limited it was. Few who watched the Faces of Death actually knew the movie wasn’t real.. we all squirmed and closed our eyes thinking what we were seeing was some elicit footage of actual murder and death from the planet. Little did we know how amazing the marketing was even then.

At the time, the movie got awful reviews. Really, really bad reviews. But then the film made more than $35 mil in the box office and become a 30-year cult classic that most kids watched in groups secretly as they became a teenager.

The ‘banned in 40 countries’ claim probably was not true. Plus the idea that everything in the movie was real footage also was not true. But In their book Killing for Culture, authors David Kerekes and David Slater note that the movie had the inclusion of an extreme fatal accident; “the shattered remains of a cyclist are seen under a semi-tractor trailer. The camera pans long enough to capture paramedics scooping up blood clots, brain matter, and clumps of hair from the tarmac – this incident is authentic and culled from newsreels.”

The film was banned in the UK. It was banned in New Zealand. Australia refused to classify it.

One of the events that created a firestorm of controversy happened in November 1986, when a fourteen-year-old Rod Matthews bludgeoned his classmate Shaun Ouilette to death with a baseball bat. The idea to kill Ouilette was supposedly conceived after Matthews viewed Faces of Death, curious what it would be like if he were to actually kill someone..

    And the rest.. was history..

The 1980s were a run time, mostly filled with antsy feelings from adults over the Satanic Panic and movies like this.

This newspaper article from 1986 shows how people were worried about teenagers being infatuated with some of the more horrendous sides of life.. An ‘expert’ quoted in the article summarized it by saying that since we live in a violent time, this is just another example of symptom of that.

Compared to our time now, some may consider this film to be tame.

    But it sure wasn’t then…
And to this date, debate about the film and its legacy live on….

CYBER ATTACK ON A MAJOR UNITED STATES PIPELINE!

    THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY..

A cyberattack forced the shutdown of one of the largest pipelines in the United States, in what appeared to be a significant attempt to disrupt vulnerable energy infrastructure. The pipeline carries refined gasoline and jet fuel up the East Coast from Texas to New York.

    ALL OPERATIONS WERE HALTED FRIDAY

The operator of the system, Colonial Pipeline, said in a statement late Friday that it had shut down its 5,500 miles of pipeline, which it says carries 45 percent of the East Coast’s fuel supplies, in an effort to contain the attack on its computer networks. Earlier Friday, there were disruptions along the pipeline, but it was unclear whether that was a direct result of the attack.

    MORE..

In the statement, the company said that it learned on Friday that it “was the victim of a cybersecurity attack,” but it provided no details. Such an attack could involve malware that shut down its operations or ransomware demanding payment to unlock computer files or systems.

45% of the East Coast’s fuel supply is carried through one delivery system, operated by Colonial Pipeline, the victim of a cyberattack Friday. The shutdown was precautionary; company says attack did not impact delivery. But, that’s a lot of dependency on one company…

Again, this is supplies half of the East Coast’s gas and plane fuel..

AND AS THOUGH SOME MAINSTREAM NEWS SOURCE HAD STUNNING PSYCHIC ABILITIES, it was only reported day ago that the United States was going to be faced with major gas shortages this summer.

The legacy of Art Bell at stake in a New Jersey lawsuit

The radio legend died on Friday the 13th in April 2018, but his name is living on. Not just because of an online networks of fans still trading and listening to all of his past shows, but because of a court case–about his past shows!

The subject of all of this is the Dark Matter Radio Network. This was the little network that could that was able to broadcast out Bell’s final program, DARK MATTER, to the masses.

There is an ongoing lawsuit in the state of New Jersey about the final 100 programs that Art Bell did for the network.. It’s Michael Marshalek of Hoboken vs David Rubini of Texas.. The crux of the suit: Rubini claims that Marshalek invested in his online radio venture and then stole Bell’s archives. He aims to get them back..

    THE CASE

    Tom Nobile reports this,

In court documents, Rubini declares himself the company’s rightful owner, saying he agreed to buy the network with Marshalek’s help. But the deal went south, with Marshalek seizing the company and archives of Bell’s last 100 shows, according to the suit.

Rubini is based in Dallas. But the battle for Bell’s former company will play out inside a courtroom in Hudson County, where Marshalek lives and Rubini is suing him.

Rubini’s demands: the company and its master recordings, plus $5 million in damages. It’s a steep number, but if you ask Rubini, the legal fuss is all about ensuring that Bell’s legacy — in all its mad glory — remains in the right hands.

According to Rubini, the two struck a handshake agreement in March 2020 for Marshalek to buy the service at $80,000 and then sign it over Rubini, who would pay back the loan with no interest. Marshalek would be a silent lender who just wanted Dark Matter to flourish, Rubini says he thought. But his opinions have changed.

The report goes on to say that a lengthly legal battle is about to begin..

More from the report on Marshalek:

In October, Marshalek was arrested at his Garden Street home after allegedly barricading himself inside the apartment with his son. Hudson County’s SWAT team put the neighborhood on lockdown. After four hours, they breached the brownstone and removed the child, according to a police affidavit.

The incident stemmed from a dispute over whether his disabled son would have to wear a mask at school, Marshalek told the Hudson County View in January. He’s filed a notice of his intent to sue the city for wrongful arrest and property damage, the paper said.

Those who follow this page know that our reports on Art Bell are nothing new.. a long time fan .. never-time caller.

And the history of lawsuits involving his name go back as well.. One of our first reports, 20 years ago now!!, on the HORROR REPORT, was about him..

We will continue following this newer story the best we can.. It may play out in a fashion that is not always in the public eye. Perhaps mysterious and reassuring?

    DEVELOPING..

  • Musk the Martian

    Musk the Martian

There has been brewing controversy about this weekend’s SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE for several weeks..
No, not because of musical guest Miley Cyrus. Controversy about her is very 2008.. very 2000 and late. Instead it stems from the decision to have Elon Musk as a host.

It may be his vaccine commentary.. perhaps other Tweets that have stoked the wokes.. But either way, the cast isn’t too happy ..

While some may argue the cast should be more upset at this season’s writing, the appearance of Musk has produced outrage across the socials and among the internals at Peacock.. but the show will go on. Despite the anger over his appearance, no doubt it may end up being one of the highest rated shows of the season for Lorne Michaels.

All that aside, something else of strange interest has been introduced into the discussion..

Call it coincidence. Or maybe call it some zany proof of time travel!

It all stems from a British media report that went viral from the UK SUN (God bless the sploid)..

Writing in his 1952 science fiction novel “Project Mars”, engineer Wernher von Braun described a man called “Elon” who ruled over the Red Planet.

One passage of the book – a fantasy blueprint for a human expedition to Mars – details that “a Martian government was created, led by ten men”.

Those men worked under a leader “elected by universal suffrage for five years under the name or title of Elon.”

This book’s existence has been talked about for a few years. But now and then social media picks it up. Or mainstream reports.. or sites like ours.

And each time eyes roll .. or eyebrows raise.

This time, as we get closer to a future where Martian will be invaded by Earthlings, we presume at least, it’s fun to think of King Elon going to the red planet with his ten men. The gild..

    And the rocket’s red glare

The forecast for when the out-of-control rocket from China will re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere is around 7:13pm ET tomorrow, although U.S. Space Force says it could happen +/- 18 hours from then due to the out-of-control nature of the rocket.

The Pentagon has said they have -no- plan to attempt to shoot it down, even if it looks like it’ll hit the United States. For now, their plan is one of “hope”.

    Developing..

  • No better way to go back to the movies than with horror!

No better way to go back to the movies than with horror!

The Oscars never credit the genre.. The critics ignore it.

But so often horror unites us together.. we can scream together.. laugh together.. get angry together. And be scared together.

And after the past year, we have sure been scared. So why not do it together again in a movie theater..

A QUIET PLACE II is promising to do just that..

Emily Blunt And John Krasinski’s is paving the way for film to return to the theater.

    The trailer has dropped in:

    https://content.jwplatform.com/players/Be6Q0xsM-NeObVi9R.html

    From the press:

Picking up after the chaotic events of A Quiet Place, the Paramount sequel sees the surviving members of the Abbott family leaving the comfort of the farm they called home. As creatures still stalk the wilderness, Evelyn (Emily Blunt,) Reagan (Millicent Simmonds,) and Marcus (Noah Jupe) venture into uncharted territory. With the family’s latest addition of a newborn in tow, the danger factor is just a little higher this time around, in a world where sound could equal death. The sequel also introduces some new humans (Cillian Murphy and Djimon Hounsou,) who are still rather mysterious, but look to be forces of good, as Evelyn tries to convince them that finding other survivors is the only way to stay alive.

We have not seen numbers like this in months, but there are some indications that A QUIET PLACE II may earn as much as $60 to $80 mil Memorial Day Weekend.

After a year of shuddered theaters and closed down box offices, that is immense cash.

It will be fascinating to see how many head to theaters. Some are banking on a gigantic return on investment.. others ponder the possibilities.

But regardless of the venue, filmmakers want to makey the money.. that’s the name of the game.

So in that light, 45 days after opening A Quiet Place: Part II will be headed to Paramount +

They have you covered. . .

There are a number of Internet sleuths who are trying to figure out if this trailer somehow has a hidden meaning, perhaps even the 2022 release date. Thus far no official word from Netflix or the gang from Hawkins Indiana, but it’s really cool to think of the amount of prelude footage that could’ve been filmed prior to the original show that might be utilized in this.

And don’t forget one more important player that will be in the puzzle, Robert Englund will be appearing in this season as well.

This is gearing up for one of the most anticipated release dates and programs in Netflix history and will undoubtedly cause a stir amongst those desperately trying to find every clue in every trailer that gets released.
