Who’s that Joker!? The paparazzi are on the trail

The JOKER film starring Joaquin Phoenix has been a mystery.. only a few tidbits have been revealed and recently this past weekend showcased a short 30 second trailer of Phoenix slowly transforming his face into the clown prince of crime..

But the paparazzi are on the trail..

This past weekend TMZ featured this blazing article on its wesite:  Joaquin Phoenix keeps giving us a little more as The Joker — this time he’s in full costume as The Jester of Genocide … and he’s all smiles about it.

Joker—which also stars Zazie Beetz, Marc Maron, Glenn Fleshler, and Brett Cullen— is set to hit theaters on October 4, 2019..

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS-uRryvd7U]

TODD PHILLIPS is looking to battle paparazzi over leaked JOKER photos: While shooting in New York City, footage and photos of Phoenix in attire with the classic Joker color palette leaked on the internet and Phillips retaliated by releasing his own photos.

Commenters started to complain that Phillips was releasing too many photos and information about the movie to which he responded: “Here’s the issue. We have paparazzi all over our set, at every turn. And it bums me out that they constantly put out their bad shots. So I figure, may as well put out some good ones.” MORE..

The Phoenix incarnation has a delightfully playful look .. behind the smile is a ruthless criminal who, by any measure, will bring scares and most likely a near R rated or R rated film next Halloween ’19 .. His presence seems to have a bit of the Bill Murray appearance as the HORROR REPORT pointed out this past weekend.. But also, the newest leaked footage began to remind us of the Heath Ledger version coupled with the face and hair of the 1960s Romero.. We will all be glued to our seats as we watch where this ride takes us..

    It will be wild.

With paparazzi hiding behind every piece of brick and mortar where filming is taking place, there is no doubt Todd Phillips will remain unhappy as he wishes to keep this all very much secret until next year..

Joaquin Phoenix appears in brief teaser for Joker film

The newest teaser for the 2019 film based on the Joker is out..

You can view it here: https://youtu.be/UJlxI9xXLXk
But The Horror Report cannot help but conclude that

Joaquin Phoenix looks less like the joker and more like Bill Murray from the 1990s non classic QUICK CHANGE ..

    LOVE THAT JOKER

Joaquin Phoenix on his role as the Clown Prince of Crime: “It Scares the Shit Out of Me”

MORE IN Collider, Phoenix just opened up about taking on the role, which has notoriously been one that seems to push actors into some pretty dark places.

“I think [Todd Phillips] is very impressive and he seems to have a very interesting understanding of this world and what he’s trying to say. And so there is something very appealing about that and working with him on this particular project,” Phoenix told the site. “It feels unique, it is its own world in some ways, and maybe, mostly, it scares the fucking shit out of me or something. It might as well be the thing that scares you the most.”

The curse of the Joker notion has floated through pop culture for a few decades.. Heath Ledger killed himself shortly after his iconic and BATMAN-changing role as the character..

Jack Nicholson said he warned Ledger..

Jared Leto: He’s admitted he found the role very challenging, and said he remained in character for most of the shoot, spending most of his time alone. Leto even went so far as to send a rat to Margot Robbie and a dead pig to the rest of the cast..

  • Oswald Cobblepot isn’t don’t with BATMAN yet

Oswald Cobblepot isn’t don’t with BATMAN yet

Could the PENGUIN be the villain!?

Excitement builds in the world of Gothamites..

Variety’s Justin Kroll says that Oswald Cobblepot will be the one confounding the Dark Knight, posting the following on Twitter:

“Take this with a grain of salt as things are constantly changing in the DCEU but I’m hearing the Penguin is possibly the choice to play the main villain in THE BATMAN. Sources add even if Reeves decide to go another route the studio could then make him the main villain in BOP.”

This is just a rumor at this point.

The Tweets go on from Kroll:

Reeves is still working on the script, so that could always change but of the multiple BIRDS OF PREY scripts submitted, one does have the Penguin as the main heavy. Either way, it seems WB wants this character cast in the universe sooner rather then later.

The Penguin first appeared in Detective Comics #58 all the way back in December of 1941 .. let’s all hope we see him again … it’s one of the best villains in any comic that ever existed.

Some nostalgia for your video pleasure.. These are various reports from the BATMAN era in 1989. I was 9. It was amazing, I saw the film at least 5 times in the theater and it forever changed my life.

Here’s just a few little snippets of history of media coverage from almost GASP! 30 years ago ..

2018 IS THE YEAR OF SUPER HERO RELEASES

quaman will be swimming into theaters a little later than originally planned.

The DC/Warner Bros. film is moving from Oct. 5, 2018 to the middle of holiday season, Dec. 21, 2018. It will open in 3D.

Aquaman is moving into a slot that is currently still occupied by an untitled Fox film from James Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment that was presumably being held for Avatar 2, however that film has not yet been given an official release date. Last week, Cameron said Avatar 2 would no longer be released in 2018 as expected.

  • SUMMER OF 16: VIOLENCE PERVADES THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

SUMMER OF 16: VIOLENCE PERVADES THE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE

Something seems very wrong.. Very very wrong..

Life of late has been filled with horrid headlines–things of a tragic nature. Hardcore drugs.. hardcore murders.. a lack of concern from some in the public and a turning inward of others..

Has the American culture finally come to its knees in fear? Have all the good people given up, locked their doors, and shielded their last remaining vestige of safety somewhere deep in a homemade bunker?

HEADLINE FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS: US CITIES SEE UNEXPLAINED RISE IN VIOLENT CRIMES THIS YEAR

The meat of the story written by LISA MARIE PANE AND DON BABWIN..

Violent crimes – from homicides and rapes to robberies – have been on the rise in many major U.S. cities, yet experts can’t point to a single reason why and the jump isn’t enough to suggest there’s a trend.

“It’s being reported on at local levels, but in my view, it’s not getting the attention at the national level it deserves,” FBI Director James Comey said recently. “I don’t know what the answer is, but holy cow, do we have a problem.”

The problem is not completely national.. certain cities are not seeing a spike. Others are.. one of those cities: Chicago. The same weekend the world seemed concerned about the gorilla at the Ohio zoo gunned down, so many in Chicago were killed or injured by gunfire, Memorial Day weekend..

    More on Chicago:

Perhaps more significant is the number of people who are being shot; well over 1,200 as of Tuesday, which far surpasses the 800 by this time last year.

All of it has left the city on edge.

“Our kids are afraid to go out of the house,” said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, a Catholic priest and activist on the city’s South Side. “You have children asking teachers to pray for them before they go home.”

The AP expands more.. the story will surely be on front pages Monday morning in fishwrapper runs..

But what to make of it? A breakdown of society/ a pattern/ a fluke?

    Drugs?
    Gangs
    ….rage..

All the rage in a summer heat..

As so often happens, this reality reminds me of fiction, specifically Frank Miller’s BATMAN.. a scene where the Joker is running wild and the entire city of Gotham is ravaged by a crime wave and a heat wave at the same time. The heat wave finally breaks with a mighty crack of thunder before an eventual fight between Batman and Superman. But the cops in Gotham were waiting for that heat wave to break.. waiting for the crime wave to slow down, too..

In real life, we are waiting for something to break.. for the heat, or whatever is at the root of this issue, to calm down.. be fixed.

    But who’s fixing it?

    No one I can see..

    Batman, sadly, does not exist.

  • DAWN OF JUSTICE crash!

    DAWN OF JUSTICE crash!

When the dramatically high Easter Sunday numbers were posted about BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, I had a hunch.. Those numbers were so good.. soo amazing.. and sooo ready to crash and burn the week after. The movie was talked about all week around water coolers and on school buses.. and people were all in agreement: IT sucks.

This may be one where critics and moviegoers actually find some common ground..

I am choosing not to see the film. Friends of mine who did regard it as one of the lesser qualify pieces of art they have ever consumed.. a few kids think it is cool because of explosions and special effects. But the story line.. the Affleck .. the awfulness of it all..

This weekend is crash and burn time!

Already Friday night lights were dimmed for other films, not BAT vs the super one with WONDER WOMAN somehow thrown in for good measure.

A 79% drop Friday night when compared to the previous weekend. The overall weekend will most likely finish $50 mil with a 69% falloff..

Does that mean the movie is going to flop? No .. it still has some bit to go to make up the over $800 million budget it filmed on, however. But it will make it.

One thing is for sure: ZOOTOPIA is coming in second place and still–second place after this many weeks–showcasing itself as a major hit ..
