Texas crisis: Abbott appeals for out-of-state help against COVID-19

Gov. Greg Abbott appealed for out-of-state help Monday to fight the third wave of COVID-19 in Texas.

The request came as a county-owned hospital in Houston raised tents to accommodate their COVID-19 overflow. Private hospitals in the county already were requiring their staff to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Meantime, the Dallas school district announced Monday that it would require students and staff to wear face masks starting Tuesday. The Houston school district already announced a mask mandate for its students and staff later this week if its board approves.

The highly contagious delta variant is fueling the wave.

Abbott has directed the Texas Department of State Health Services to use staffing agencies to find additional medical staff from beyond the state’s borders as the delta wave began to overwhelm its present staffing resources. He also has sent a letter to the Texas Hospital Association to request that hospitals postpone all elective medical procedures voluntarily.

  • VACCINATED ICELAND SAYS THEIR COVID RESTRICTIONS MAY EXIST FOR 15 YEARS!

VACCINATED ICELAND SAYS THEIR COVID RESTRICTIONS MAY EXIST FOR 15 YEARS!

WITH ICELAND’S POPULATION NEARING RECORD LEVELS OF VACCINATED POPULATION, THIS NEWS IS CAUSING SURPRISE IN THE NATION:

    15 YEARS OF RESTRICTIONS!?

    MORE..

Iceland, one of the first countries in the world to abolish all COVID-19 restrictions for vaccinated tourists, may see recently reimposed safety protocols in place for 15 years, according to one of the Nordic country’s chief medical experts.

Despite the overwhelming majority of Iceland’s adult population having been vaccinated, chief epidemiologist Thorolfur Gudnason said he cannot rule out that reintroduced COVID-19 restrictions may become necessary for many years to come.

    MORE..

His comments come amid a rapid rise of the Delta strain, with the fully vaccinated making up a large proportion of the new infections.

“It can happen, no one knows what the future holds,” Gudnason told local newspaper Morgunbladid. “That is what we have been saying all along, that there is no predictability in this.”

Thorolfur Gudnason saidthat the COVID-19 epidemic will not end in Iceland until it is abolished all over the world.

He also admitted that the vaccine protection against infection was lower, maintained that the defense against serious illnesses was still estimated at 90 percent.

On 26 June, the Icelandic authorities chose to remove all domestic restrictions, prompting media outlets across the globe to hail it as the country that vanquished coronavirus. At that time, not a single case of COVID-19 had been registered in several weeks, and no deaths since December of last year had occurred.

Meanwhile Iceland, along with other nations such as Italy, have been removed from COVID safe countries by Norway..

The bottom line: Despite 90% of adults / 70% of the full population in Iceland having being vaccinated, Covid cases have recently rocketed.

  • CAPE COD OUTBREAK INTRIGUE!

    CAPE COD OUTBREAK INTRIGUE!

ABC news is among sources reporting tonight about some troubling information regarding the Delta Variant..

Anne Flaherty andArielle Mitropoulos have this information:

A week after the crowds descended upon Provincetown, Massachusetts, to celebrate the Fourth of July — the holiday President Joe Biden hoped would mark the nation’s liberation from COVID-19 — the manager of the Cape Cod beach town said he was aware of “a handful of positive COVID cases among folks” who spent time there. “We are in touch with the Health Department and Outer Cape Health Services and are closely monitoring the data,” Alex Morse told reporters.

The outbreak grew from that point.. Then the situation turned more troubling: A large number of those infected were vaccinated Americans!

    MORE!

As of Thursday, 882 people were tied to the Provincetown outbreak. Among those living in Massachusetts, 74% of them were fully immunized, yet officials said the vast majority were also reporting symptoms. Seven people were reported hospitalized.

The initial findings of the investigation led by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seemed to have huge implications.

    MORE FROM ABC:

Delta was known for its “hyper-transmissibility,” or as one former White House adviser put it “COVID on steroids.”

“What has changed is the virus,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and Biden’s chief medical adviser.

When a vaccinated person gets infected with delta — called a “breakthrough infection” — “the level of virus in their nasopharynx is about 1,000 times higher than with the alpha variant,” Fauci said in an interview Wednesday with MSNBC.

    And this:

All indications now are that the Provincetown outbreak investigation is among the pieces of new evidence behind the CDC’s decision to ask Americans to once again put on their masks indoors, even if they are vaccinated.

  • MASK ON. MASK OFF. MASK ON

MASK ON. MASK OFF. MASK ON

    POTUS MASKS UP AGAIN..

Just a few months ago as the birth of spring brought hope eternal..masks were off. President Biden said that it was once again time to greet each other with a smile..

A smile now turning to a frown..

Delta variant growing across America, the President and Staff are now appearing to don the masks again across the grounds of the White House.

The requirement was back after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said new research showed even vaccinated people could transmit, in rare cases, the more contagious Delta variant.

Showing how quickly the tide has turned in just two weeks:

Reporters and photographers wore masks. Members of the press office wore masks. Biden did too — he was photographed with a mask while talking with an opposition leader from Belarus before leaving for a trip to Pennsylvania.

Vice President Kamala Harris got a head start the day before, wearing a mask during a meeting with Native American leaders. An aide passed out masks to any journalists who had already fallen out of the habit of keeping one handy.

Meanwhile JoePA has called for $100 bucks to whomever gets vaccinated!

    Cash for jabs!

    The President said

Thursday called on state and local governments to use funds from his $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan to offer $100 payments to individuals in order to incentivize coronavirus vaccinations.

The payments would be offered to newly vaccinated Americans to provide “an extra incentive to boost vaccination rates, protect communities, and save lives,” the Treasury Department said in an announcement Thursday afternoon.

“Treasury stands ready to give technical assistance to state and local governments so that they may use the funds effectively to support increased vaccination in their communities, and Treasury will partner with the Department of Health and Human Services throughout this effort,” it said.

BIDEN AND DOJ MAKE THE CALL: Vaccines for federal workers or submit to tests

President Joe Biden will announce on Thursday a requirement that all federal employees and contractors be vaccinated against Covid-19, or be required to submit to regular testing and mitigation requirements, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.

The announcement will come in remarks where Biden is also expected to lay out a series of new steps, including incentives, in an attempt to spur new vaccinations as the Delta variant spreads rapidly throughout the country. It will also follow the decision by the Department of Veterans Affairs to require its frontline health care workers to be vaccinated over the course of the next two months

    COVID-21: MASK UP!

THE C.D.C. WILL RECOMMEND THAT SOME VACCINATED PEOPLE WEAR MASKS INDOORS AGAIN. →

The C.D.C.’s initial guidance in May said people fully protected from the coronavirus could go mask-free indoors, but recommended that unvaccinated people still wear masks. Those recommendations drew sharp criticism from some experts, who said it was premature given the vast swaths of unvaccinated people in the country.

    ovid

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the C.D.C.’s director, at the time pointed to two scientific findings as significant factors. Few vaccinated people become infected with the virus, and transmission seems rarer still, she noted; and the vaccines appear to be effective against all known variants of the coronavirus.

This new guidance is a reverse from previous reversals of reversals and guidance.

Variants be damned! NYC to throw ticker tape parade in July to celebrate health care heroes and essential workers

Just as the world was beginning to see the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, American leaders and especially those in New York City were still saying to go to large events, China Town, and Broadway. The inevitible happened.

And now just as the planet is seeing new effects of a much more infective Delta, or Indian, variant, New York decided to throw a massive ticker tape parade to honor essential workers.

Good idea. When the pandemic is over..

Somehow, the media decided it’s finished, while England extends their lockdowns into July and people are heading back into hospitals in various nations..

The event honoring New York City’s “hometown heroes” will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7 in the Canyon of Heroes.

The parade will kick off in Battery Park and end with a ceremony in City Hall Park.

“This year that we’ve been through, it has literally been the greatest crisis in the history of New York City. We were knocked down, but we got back up and that’s something to celebrate about this city,” de Blasio said at his daily briefing Monday.

    And more

De Blasio said the parade will feature floats with groups of health care workers, first responders, educators, municipal workers, transportation workers, grocery and bodega workers, and delivery people.

“You name it, all the essential workers who made it happen, everyone who kept it together in New York City for all of us and brought us back. It’s a day to celebrate and appreciate the heroes who often go unsung, we’re going to sing about them this day,” de Blasio said.

Today the delta variant is about 10% of American cases. That is about what the UK was a few weeks ago as that strain now surges across the pond.

The Philadelphia Liberty Loans Parade was a parade in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 28, 1918, organized to promote government bonds that helped pay for the needs of Allied troops in World War I.. And it also became the parade known to spread death and make Philadelphia one of the most hard-hit areas during the Spanish flu.

    VIETNAM: WHEN VARIANTS MERGE

Vietnam has uncovered a new Covid-19 variant combining characteristics of the two existing variants first found in India(#B16172) & UK(#B117)”  Health Minister said. “The new variant is very dangerous” and “spreads quickly by air”.

In Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest metropolis and home to 9 million, at least 85 people have tested positive as part of a cluster at a Protestant church, the Health Ministry said. Worshippers sang and chanted while sitting close together without wearing proper masks or taking other precautions.

    Meanwhile..

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 has spiked up 72% in just 8 days, according to latest UK  govt data.

This follows a surge in #B16172 cases. Deaths have also begun to increase. UK is among the most vaccinated countries, with 57% with at least 1 dose, and 35% fully..

Doctors treating patients in India  have marked a distinct trend during the 2nd wave—COVID-19 now appears to be impacting children more severely. Children and adolescents are now showing more obvious symptoms such as prolonged fever and gastroenteritis

  • Boris Johnson Wanted to Be Injected With the Coronavirus on Live TV to Show it Wasn’t a Big Deal

Boris Johnson Wanted to Be Injected With the Coronavirus on Live TV to Show it Wasn’t a Big Deal

Boris Johnson.. contracted COVID and ended in intensive care.. there were rumors at the time that he was near death..

But he wanted to be injected with COVID prior to this!?

    Fate knocks you down..

In shocking testimony before a parliamentary committee on Wednesday, Dominic Cummings — the former chief adviser to the prime minister — admitted that the British government’s response to the coronavirus was wholly unacceptable.

“The truth is that senior minister, senior officials, senior advisers like me, fell disastrously short of the standards that the public has a right to expect of its Government in a crisis like this,” Cummings said. “When the public needed us most, the government failed.”

At the center of that disastrous response, Cummings said, was Johnson — who believed the virus was much ado about nothing, comparing it derisively to swine flu. The prime minister’s cavalier attitude towards the virus was such, according to Cummings, that Johnson wanted England’s chief medical officer, Chris Whitty, to inject him with Covid-19 on live TV just so he could show that it wasn’t a big deal.

“The view of various officials inside Number Ten was, if we have the Prime Minister chairing Cobra meetings and he just tells everyone “It is swine flu, don’t worry about it, I’m going to get Chris Whitty to inject me live on TV with coronavirus, so everyone realizes it is nothing to be to be frightened of,’ that would be, that would not help actually serious planning,” Cummings said.

  • Mild COVID-19 cases can lead to antibody protection for life !?

Mild COVID-19 cases can lead to antibody protection for life !?

Perhaps we should take this study with a grain of salt?

After all.. “for life” is quite the assertion when we are only one year into the history still being written about what COVID-19 will do next, right?

Anyway, this is what is being reported:

Researchers say patients with mild cases of coronavirus still have antibodies protecting them from reinfection nearly a year later. In fact, a team at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis believes this protection from COVID will likely last for the rest of their lives.

Researchers explain that initial reports claiming COVID antibodies fade away quickly after an infection did not have all the facts. Their findings reveal that although the number of immune cells making antibodies drops once the patient is healthy, they never totally go away.

There has been a number of varying studies about this. Some suggest that the antibodies aren’t good for fighting beyond only a few months.. other suggest longer. Some are hoping that the Mr. T Cells (we are coining that one) are able to fight a lot longer on the A-Team of the body!

    How was the study conducted?

To find out how long coronavirus immunity really lasts, Ellebedy and the team started collecting both blood and bone marrow samples from people who recovered from mild cases of COVID-19. Researchers gathered 77 participants who volunteered to give blood every three months starting a month after their infection. Only six of these patients needed hospitalization during their illness.

Eighteen participants also provided bone marrow samples seven to eight months after their infections. Five returned four months later to provide a second bone marrow sample — nearly one year after contracting COVID-19. For comparison, the team also collected bone marrow from 11 people who never had coronavirus.

What about the vaccines!? As good as the gold standard of a mild actual infection??

The team is now examining if people receiving the COVID-19 vaccine will enjoy the same long-lasting immunity. Currently, the CDC says anyone receiving both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines will have full protection starting two weeks after their second shot. The same goes for people two weeks after receiving the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine…

But … what about the variants.
    OH THOSE VARIANTS………
