WEIRDEST TRUMP OF THE YEAR: 2017 YEAR IN REVIEW

There were so many! Like this image from Halloween, where President Trump welcomed various children into the Oval Office. He noted that the Asian girl near him was present, and told he was going to China for a trip.. And then he began to tell the children not to be like their parents, their parents being members of the ‘fake media.’ He took his passive aggressive anger out on the adults in the room snapping photos by telling their kids that they should not be proud of the parental professions of their guardians..

Another bizarre moment occurred soon after Trump was sworn into office. In May, when CBS’ John Dickerson interviewed him and asked about controversial topics, Trump immediately stopped the interview and walked back to his desk Resolute. He sad down. And picked up what appeared to be a blank paper.. the silence was overwhelming and awkward.

Another fun time came during the Great American eclipse on August 21 (more on that later) .. thought warnings persisted for weeks prior, the President seemed to defy logic and safety as he looked directly at the sun without protective glasses for several seconds.

And while we can go on forever, we’ll sum up the final moment only with the video of what appears to be Donald Trump’s teeth dislodging as he told the world that Jerusalem was now the capital of Israel.

BALDWIN MELTDOWN ON TWITTER! Polanski meltdown! insanity over abuse allegations! Baldwins bids ‘Au revoir’

The DAILY BEAST sums up what is occurring on Twitter right now like this:

First, McGowan tweeted out a link to the video interview with the message, “Told you everyone knew. No one cared. Men ran the show. Women toed the line. No more. #ROSEARMY.” Then, Asia Argento, who also accused Weinstein of raping her, tweeted a link to the video with her own, more pointed message: “Hey @AlecBaldwin you’re either a complete moron or providing cover for your pals and saving your rep. Maybe all three.” This missive caused Baldwin to fire back, tweeting, “If you paint every man w the same brush, you’re gonna run out of paint or men @AsiaArgento.”

The argument continued with others involved..

    Baldwin struck back:

Rita Panahi, an Iranian-Australian columnist for the Herald Sun, tweeted a screenshot of the Argento-Baldwin exchange with the message: “But it was AFTER Polanski had fled justice AFTER drugging & anally raping a child. Get in the bin, @AlecBaldwin. Stay strong, @AsiaArgento.”..

And the highg school-ish exchange escalated.. continued.. Tweetstorms arose.

    Then Baldwin said bye:

Baldwin responded to the online backlash by tweeting out a six-part apology, writing, “it is w some degree of sadness that I will suspend posting on this a TWITTER account for a period of and in the current climate…It was never my intention, in my public statements, to ‘blame the victim’ in the many sexual assault cases that have emerged recently…I simply posited that the settlement of such cases certainly delayed justice, though I am fully aware that those settlements were entered into w understanding that settlement is wise, intimidated into believing so. My heart goes out to all such victims. My goal is to do better in all things related to gender equality. Au revoir.”

  • Sunday night knees

    Sunday night knees

Suddenly America’s past time has divided the nation–or the President talking about it..

This past week, Donald Trump loudly stated that players who take needs during national anthems should be FIIIIIIRRREEEDDDD!…..

And this weekend? Many NFL players locked arms or kneeled in solidarity against the President, causing a new national fervor about the biggest game in the United States..

I wrote before that I suspected some odd conspiracy–ratings were down and now … most likely up.

This is how the AFP reports it:

A wave of protests swept across the National Football League on Sunday as President Donald Trump escalated his feud with players who kneel during the US national anthem to draw attention to racial injustice.
Trump ignited a firestorm of criticism after comments on Friday in which he described NFL players who chose to take a knee through renditions of “The Star-Spangled Banner” as “sons of bitches” who should be fired.
The US leader doubled down on those remarks early Sunday, urging fans to boycott the NFL as long as the protests continued.
“If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Yet players throughout America’s most popular sport took a defiant stance on Sunday, in the largest such demonstration since former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick started the protests in 2016.

Trump was forced back into the issue tonight (and he LOVED every minute of it) …

Trump, speaking to reporters on a New Jersey tarmac before boarding Air Force One, was asked for a reaction to the statement by New England Patriots owner (and Trump supporter) Robert Kraft about being “disappointed” by Trump’s recent comments.

“I like Bob very much, we’re friends — he gave me a Super Bowl ring a month ago, right? — so he’s a good friend of mine, and I want him to do what he wants to do, but we have a great country, we have great people representing our country, especially our soldiers, our first responders, and they should be treated with respect, and when you get on your knee and you don’t respect the American flag or the anthem, that’s not being treated with respect.”

Asked a reporter: “Are you inflaming racial tensions, sir?”

“This has nothing to do with race,” Trump said. “I never said anything about race. This has nothing to do with race or anything else. This has to do with respect for our country and respect for our flag.”

The new ‘freedom fries’ of Monday water cooler chat will center around Donald Trump and the new national sensation.
Meanwhile? …. lots of tiny players and older ones too have brains rattling around their heads and futures filled with head injuries.
    But ratings were down.
    So to Twitter we went.
  • MEME WAR I

    MEME WAR I

Here is how things unfolded.. This past slow news weekend, President Donald Trump initiated first blast when he posted a MEME of him from 2007 clothes lining Vince McMahan.. but the head of the WWE owner was replaced with CNN’s logo. The media was shocked! Scrutiny began! Such hate! Vitriol..

And some Americans most likely would have been on CNN’s side with this one. After all, we have grown a bit weary of a Tweeting President.

And then CNN went and did this…

They found the REDDIT user who created the meme…using various data mining tricks and social media INFO..

The user, not named at this point: HansSoloAsshole. Love the name.

Basically what CNN decided to do was blackmail the person–some are claiming the REDDIT user is a 15-year-old. CNN virtually had the user promise to to make any more MEMES.. and if he did (they will be watching they told him) they would release his name to the world!! But if he didn’t? His secret is their secret.

Within hours of CNN broadcasting a ‘victory’ story on live TV where they bragged about how they found the Internet user who created 5 second comedy videos, the public backlash began. From the right. And the left. This one seems to be a great unifier actually..

For about 12 hours now the term ‘CNNBLACKMAIL’ has been trending on Twitter..

CNN thought they scooped a big one. Instead they just scooped poop dropped by HansSoloAsshole.

People are seriously questioning why CNN would have even wanted to track down a MEME creator to begin with–unless some thought it may have been those comedic Russian MEME creators behind it..?

Nonetheless… we are at a crossroads in time. MEME WAR I

Saturday morning arrived and the Donald was slammed for his Tweet..
By Fourth of July CNN targets the potentially teenage MEME creator.

And the internet? The internet took notice.

If CNN wanted to rid the NET of memes with their logo? They made the wrong move. The MEME war seemingly has just begun…

  • Trump: Twitter helped me win but I’ll be ‘restrained’ now

Trump: Twitter helped me win but I’ll be ‘restrained’ now

Trump: Twitter helped me win but I’ll be ‘restrained’ now :

While covering and linking up several political stories over the past 15 months, I have primarily been silent as to the candidate of my choice. I will continue to do so, so nothing within this opinion relates to who I actually voted for this year.. Some time honored private matters, to me, are still cherished.

That said, I do not think the election of Donald Trump should be considered a surprise to anyone watching. Social media, the way we chat and chatter online, created this. We created this. WE made Donald Trump …

It also reminds me of using a spirit board.. or conjuring up something from another existence. If you really, really REALLY want to talk to a spirit, one may just talk back. Then you got your wish.
In our world, social media use and the quit hits of Twitter and Facebook have allowed us to dumb down political talk .. we have gone from large 10,000 word articles on the events of the day or week down to 100 character or so tweets. We decide on things after only glancing at headlines.. we do not check sources, but instead eat up anything we see on Facebook. So as long as we agree with it.

And that is another problem with modern social media. We do not find things to challenge our thoughts or opinions… we don’t want to be challenged. Instead we are given the ability to follow the places we are fans of on the newsfeed……and you miss valuable contrary information by doing so.

And the news? The news has become a victim, too. There is no ‘news’ anymore.. Today as Itype this there was a 7.8 quake off New Zealand and a tsunami warning. That is news. But it doesn’t sell in America. Instead the airwaves will be filled with indigestable political stories 24/7.

The protests against Trump are being made worse by a media that glorifies them. But when violence occurs, the media shutters back and quickly showcases brief and not-so-serious calls for calm.

Today on Twitter a friend asked me why I think Saturday Night Live was a fan of Hillary. She pointed out that Trump guest hosted the program. My answer was twofold. 1) Ratings. Trump equals ratings. 2) It was pre-extreme and pre-Muslim ban and pre-wall.

Trump used his social media influence in the 2016 election like no other candidate. Elections will not be fought on airwaves anymore.. radio ads don’t matter. TV ads just annoy. YouTube ads? They work… Social media platforms? They work. And sadly, fake clickbait websites work as well as the solid and reliable ones.

The 2008 election was the first time a candidate was able to harnass social media and Facebook to elicit donations and support among the young. In 2016, eight lightspeed fast years later, a candidate did not even bother raising money but instead used the platforms to gain a mass of people who, many of which never voted before, to vote for him.

It was the perfect storm in 2016..
You may not be happy with results. You may be one of those college students in certified ‘weep rooms’ or being told by university staff to form PlayDoh to express emotions (very silly in my thought)… or you are a member of the red state victors now hoping and praying that the president you so hoped for does not become a president you are not proud of.

    We just don’t know.
    We don’t have a clue.
A social media candidate is the modern day version of Mr Smith goes to Washington. But even Mr. Smith was forced to give more detailed thoughts on plans. And Mr. Smith was fiction!!!

Fiction is now alive and real in modern day 21st century politics.

A Congress, a Court, and a populace will now have to work and watch a President Donald Trump.

We got to know him (*kinda!*) through social media. And now as president, he says, he will tone it down. Backtrack… keep it less brash and unabashed.

…..perhaps that is the most interesting thing of all. Sure, social media changed everything. It changed how we read politics.. it changed how we vote.
But as Donald Trump is now realizing, it does NOT change how to govern….
We will now collectively watch how President Trump governs.

(Through it all, I still cannot stop to think about the Simpsons in 2000 predicting that a president Trump would happen……… wise beyond years)

  • Some of the stranger ways people are dealing with the election results

Some of the stranger ways people are dealing with the election results

Some of the stranger ways people are dealing with the election results:

The University of Michigan offered its traumatized students coloring books and Play-Doh to calm them.

The University of Kansas reminded its stressed-out kids that therapy dogs, a regular campus feature, were available.

Cornell University, an Ivy League school, held a campus-wide “cry-in,” with officials handing out tissues and hot chocolate.

Tufts University offered its devastated students arts and crafts sessions.

At campuses from elite Yale to Connecticut to Iowa and beyond, professors canceled classes and/or exams — either because students asked or because instructors were too distraught to teach..

Kate McKinnon Opens ‘SNL’ As Hillary Clinton Singing “Hallelujah”

Kate McKinnon Opens ‘SNL’ As Hillary Clinton Singing “Hallelujah” :

It was somewhat a surreal moment.. when comedy stops and drama begins. It was also very melodramatic…

This entire week, a certain portion of the nation has felt like the world was ending.. like the end may have already actually happened on November 8 .. The other half is just keeping their heads down and waiting to see how their candidate will govern..

    And the protests rage…
And now, SNL stops their comedy and treats the election more like 9/11 than 11/9..

It also shows that SNL’s political stance is solidly blue–we knew that–but that Lorne Micheals isn’t yet sure who will play Donald Trump on the progam. Alec Baldwin was famous for it over the past few weeks. So famous that even then NOT President-Elect Trump tweeted about him not being funny..

Not sure if the President-Elect will tweet about such mundane things now that he is receiving daily intelligence briefings… time will tell.

  • The Trump Show

    The Trump Show

    This week has been surreal.
The saga that was the Republican convention.. the plagiarized speech. The sideshow melodrama when Alaska tried starting a trend to extinguish Trump.. The Ted Cruz refusing to endorse him.. the audience turning.. Trump showing up during the contagious outcry against “Lyin Ted.”  Only hours before the Cruz Waterloo: He was speaking to people outside the convention hall when Trump’s private jet circled around Cruz and the audience of supporters. Clearly intentional.

This is a reality show convention. This is a reality show year.

I know this has all been said before by high paid political pointy head prognosticators. But there’s more to the story, in my personal opinion..

It feels all staged a bit too well.

Donald Trump has worked closely with promoters of boxing. He was involved with some of the biggest promotions ever with Don King. He was also an honorary member of World Wrestling Entertainment when he was being threatened to have his head shaved by Vince McMahon. The tables were turned and Trump shaved the head of the WWE owner.

So just imagine the theme.. Trump’s speech writer says she’s going to resign over Melania and the Donald says no.. Lyin Ted’s never ending battle with Trump is like a heel’s fight in wrestling.. the same themes apply. NO bodyslams or chairs, but lots of quits on Twitter and insults on the TEE VEE.. Along with it: A media glare. Sure, lots of people are talking up the ‘disaster’ that the GOP convention was. Some commentators are saying ‘nothing went right.’

But it did. Ratings did. Pundits had a week (24 hours per day on some networks) to opine about the happenings. This as been a success for someone who thrives on attention and free advertising. This is the type of week — the only type of week — that Donald Trump would incur.

Could we be seeing a preview of how American politics would be during a Trump Administration? Or are we just seeing the last vestiges of the Trump routine of bucking the system that fights against him?

This has been a wild week.
But something deep down feels like it was meant to be..

  • UK GUARDIAN SPLASHES: Is it time for a horror movie about the evils of Donald Trump?

UK GUARDIAN SPLASHES: Is it time for a horror movie about the evils of Donald Trump?

UK GUARDIAN SPLASHES: Is it time for a horror movie about the evils of Donald Trump?:

Chuck Bowen writes this for the world to read:

A much larger proportion of the electorate is terrified of a Donald Trumppresidency, of course. This alarm has led to protests of all kinds. One image circulated on Facebook depicts the “Make America great again” huckster as one of the mossy-colored, skull-exposed aliens from John Carpenter’s They Live. Below this monstrous caricature is a caption that will be familiar to fans of the horror film: OBEY.

This caricature, like Hillary Clinton’s address in San Diego, offers a small catharsis for those of us who find Trump’s running for office to be a prolonged and baffling ordeal – a serrated cornucopia of unchecked authoritarian aggression, most obviously embodied by his obsession with dictatorial regimes and attending hatred for non-white, non-male citizens as well as the press and judicial systems. (Imagine what the hypocritical Republican hate machine would say about a Democrat who praised Russian president Vladimir Putin.)

Debate away.. the political spectrum is filled with vibrant colors on both sides.

But one thing Bowen writes struck me:

They Live was released in 1988, following a couple of likeably macho salt of the earth types (played by Roddy Piper and Keith David) as they discover that the upper class of society are alien monsters lulling us into a stupor with pop culture, exploiting us and polluting our planet while living the high life. Change the size of the TV sets, gingerly sprinkle the phrase “1%” into the dialogue, digitally insert cell phones into the characters’ hands, have a few extras snapping selfies in the background and They Live could pass as a story of the present day.

They live was one of the best movies ever made..
There have been a lot of candidates for ‘they live’ cred long before Donald Trump emerged from the stairway in the same style the SIMPSONS predicted he would ..

Bowen goes on to name other films in recent horror memory, like THE PURGE..

Horror and pop culture.. they go together so well.

I have often written that horror movies encapsulate the moment in time they were created..
Perhaps a Trump movie is in order. To be fair, maybe Hillary should be in it too. And the victor in the end? Gary Johnson! Ok that can only happen in the movies.
