The Evolution of High-Tech Horror Movies, From ‘Dot.Kill’ to ‘Rings’

The Evolution of High-Tech Horror Movies, From ‘Dot.Kill’ to ‘Rings’ :

This is what happens when horror is done right: Modern technology becomes frightening.

The days of VHS are gone. But they can equally be scary (Such as VHS, the movie) …

The original RING film was a classic for me.. I brought my entire family and lots of friends to see it in theaters in the early part of this century.. But kids of today? They just don’t get it. They know more about the RING from the SCARY MOVIE parody series than by watching it themselves.. and .. VHS!? A Tape!? What in the world is such an antiquated thing!

The newest RING is promising to merge the old nostalgia of VHS with modern technology.

As THE WRAP reports in the aforementioned link, the RING is not alone. UNFRIENDED was one of my favorites..

Modern era tech can be scary.
You know why? Because even though technology advances the frightening people who sit behind a computer screen are still the same..

  • Why I should not take horror movie advice from COSMOPOLITAN magazine

Why I should not take horror movie advice from COSMOPOLITAN magazine

I got duped into click bait today.. while perusing my morning newsfeed over coffee this Sunday I stumbled upon a link someone promoted from COSMO saying the ‘best horror movies from the year you were born’ .. Should you also want to be tricked into losing about 5 minutes of your life you’ll never get back here is the link.

It did not take much for them to come up with.. it is just click bait especially around this time of year. But to showcase how inept they were at choosing some, look no further than the pick for the year 2001:

With no disrespect meant for SNOOP DOG or his bones, this was not the best film of 2001.. recall: This was also the year that the OTHERS came out.. and the best film of the year, without question (and back in the annals of HORROR REPORT history, I chose it as my movie of the year that year) was JEEPERS CREEPERS. Even though Victor Salva made it..

So that is that. A flawed list.. And a list that gave 2009 to JENNIFER’S BODY (even though I liked it it was NOT the top movie of 09) .. and gave 2016 to GHOSTBUSTERS–in a year when horror in cinema made a comeback and kicked rear at box offices.

Yes.. avoid clickbait. Especially near Halloween.

Then again.. Jennifer’s Body wasn’t THAT bad..

‘Black Mirror’ Creator On “Terrifying” Donald Trump, Season 4 Plans, Tech Fetish & Netflix at the  NY Comic-Con

‘Black Mirror’ Creator On “Terrifying” Donald Trump, Season 4 Plans, Tech Fetish & Netflix at the  NY Comic-Con:

A lot of information was put out at the Comic-Con event..
Including a lot of Trump bashing..

Netflix attained the rights of BLACK MIRROR from Channel 4 in England.. The Comic-Con crowd reportedly had ferocious laughs at the new episode called PLAYLIST.. The purpose is to comment on augmented reality..

    From reports,

The episode, Playtest, centers around an American tourist named Cooper — played by Wyatt Russell — who agrees to test out a new interactive augmented reality system from a gaming company. He does so in order to make money to return home, after his funds were stolen by a cyber thief. The system is a network of devices able to tap into Cooper’s brain, and by using a neural net, learn and adapt to his fears. This leads to the creation of “the most personal survival horror game in history,” according to one of the characters in the episode.

And … I know you can’t wait and neither can I, the newest six episodes from BLACK MIRROR appear on Netflix on October 21..
