Trick or treat: The return of Asteroid 2015 TB145

Asteroid 2015 TB145 resembles a human skull in the correct light. It swept by Earth in 2015. This Halloween it returns yet again..

This dark object measures between 625 and 700 meters, its rotation period is around three hours and, in certain lighting conditions, it resembles a human skull. In 2015, Ttghe object was discovered a few days earlier on October 10 from Hawaii using the Pan-STARRS telescope, however, the fact that it came closest to our planet on Halloween also helped it become known as the Halloween asteroid.

    And beyond?

Thomas Müller, a researcher from the Max-Planck Institute, said: “The next slightly more exciting encounter will be around Halloween’s day in the year 2088, when the object approaches Earth to a distance of about 20 lunar distances.

Unusual laser emission from the Ant Nebula

Some space-aged food for thought to consider this weekend.

An international team of astronomers have discovered an unusual laser emission that suggests the presence of a double star system hidden at the heart of the “spectacular” Ant Nebula.

The extremely rare phenomenon is connected to the death of a star and was discovered in observations made by European Space Agency’s (ESA) Herschel space observatory.

A nebula is an interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and other ionized gases. The Ant Nebula earns its nickname from the twin lobes that resemble the head and body of an ant.

The recent Herschel observations have shown that the dramatic demise of the central star in the core of the Ant Nebula is even more theatrical than implied by its colourful appearance in visible images — such as those taken by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope.

Scientists work out what will happen when the sun dies

Professor Albert Zijslra says, ‘When a star dies it ejects a mass of gas and dust – known as its envelope – into space.

‘The envelope can be as much as half the star’s mass. This reveals the star’s core, which by this point in the star’s life is running out of fuel, eventually turning off and before finally dying.

‘It is only then the hot core makes the ejected envelope shine brightly for around 10,000 years – a brief period in astronomy. This is what makes the planetary nebula visible.

‘Some are so bright that they can be seen from extremely large distances measuring tens of millions of light years, where the star itself would have been much too faint to see.’

STARMAN WILL GO WHERE NO STARMAN WENT BEFORE

The Tesla Roadster orbits Earth before blasting off further into space.

Elon Musk announced last night on Twitter that the cherry red payload and its Starman passenger “exceeded Mars orbit.”

And now it will take months for the Roadster to travel some 600,000 miles into space…

SPACEX has mathematical sequences that show the Roadster will swing past Mars and approach the orbit of the largest object in the asteroid belt, Ceres, which at 567 miles in diameter..

So .. to the asteroid belt it goes! Perhaps to be blown into pieces of history..

On the other hand, there’s a good chance the sports car will be floating through our solar system for millions, if not billions, of years. So there’s ample time for a collision — perhaps even with Mars

  • There is water on Mars. There is not water on Mars. There is water on Mars.

There is water on Mars. There is not water on Mars. There is water on Mars.

A cross-section of underground ice is exposed at the steep slope that appears bright blue in this enhanced-color view from the HiRISE camera on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The scene is about 550 yards wide. The scarp drops about 140 yards from the level ground in the upper third of the image.Credits: NASA/JPL-Caltech/UA/USGS

This could be a game changer–and quite the about face since the past several months of news gathered have reinforced the notion that no water at all existed..

As reported in the journal Science (paywall), the water was found in both the north and south of Mars, at latitudes equivalent to South America and Scotland. The exposed areas were found on scarps as steep as 55 degrees. Based on the absence of craters in the regions, scientists believe that the features formed relatively recently.

“The discovery reported today gives us surprising windows where we can see right into these thick underground sheets of ice,” study co-author Shane Byrne of the University of Arizona told NASA. “It’s like having one of those ant farms where you can see through the glass on the side to learn about what’s usually hidden beneath the ground.”
Researchers found the scarp sites by gauging colors using the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on the MRO, and confirmed its purity using CRISM (Compact Reconnaissance Imaging spectrometer for Mars). The orbiter has previously found extensive ice sheets at other locations on Mars using its Shallow Radar camera, but it was impossible to say how deep it was. Now, scientists know that it’s close enough to access with relative ease.

NOTHING TO SEE HERE: Mystery as SpaceX cuts live feed of rocket launch to protect SECRET payload

    dailystar.co.uk

Lon Rains, Northrop Grumman’s communications director, said: “The Zuma payload is a restricted payload. It will be launched into low Earth Orbit.”
Millions streamed the launch online, but the feed dramatically cut out before viewers caught a glimpse of the Zuma craft – leaving some confused.
One Twitter user said: “I was enjoying watching until you cut the feed prior to stage 2 (T-2).”
But it didn’t go well at all!!
The highly classified and expensive government satellite launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral has reportedly been destroyed. SpaceX isn’t commenting on the allegedly failed mission, however.

  • LIFE IN SPACE

    LIFE IN SPACE

If you never saw the movie called LIFE with Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds, you should. It is about a life form discovered on Mars. The entire world changes.. the space station changes too when the life form begins to rapidly get intelligent and gigantic, devouring astronauts and taking over the vessel..

The horror movie aside, there is something equally strange afoot on the space station.

Bacterial cells treated with a common antibiotic have been spotted changing shape to survive while aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

The way bacteria act in near-zero gravity environments could pose a serious problem for treating astronauts with infections.

The “clever shape-shifting” was detected in bacteria being experimented on in the near-weightlessness of space, and is believed to help the bacteria survive.

An experiment on the common E coli bacteria subjected it to different concentrations of the antibiotic gentamicin sulfate, a drug which kills the bug on Earth.

Enormous Asteroid Is Passing Close by Earth in Two Weeks Time:

On 1 September, a mammoth 4.4 kilometer (2.7 mile) chunk of rock will pass within an astronomical whisker of our planet – the largest near-Earth object to come this close since NASA set up its Near Earth Observations program in 1998.

But .. it’s far far away.

18 times the distance between Earth and the Moon this asteroid poses no threat..

States Preparing For Historic Eclipse Like A Natural Disaster! »

According to greatamericaneclipse.com, another 1.8 to 7.4-million people will travel into the path on Aug. 21. Several small towns and less populated states are preparing to see their populations double or even triple in the week leading up to the solar event.

And in our country of fear–a nation on edge constantly since 9/11 so many years ago–everything becomes frantic..

Several counties in Idaho and Oregon have already issued emergency declarations. Local officials are citing increased public safety risks, financial damage, and excess costs of cleanup and property damage for the alerts…

The path of totality is in population zones not really prepared for an influx of a great amount of people..

But the panic in media that has been displayed is over the top.

We are on the verge of seeing a major historic event–once in a lifetime event for some people alive today.

Can we please.. PLEASE.. just enjoy it?

    Maybe in 2024.
