  • Just in case plans are scary but necessary

Just in case plans are scary but necessary

This morning while skimming VICE I found a snippet of information worth repeating:

According to unpublished FEMA documents obtained by Government Attic, a FOIA database and non-profit organization, the Department of Homeland Security agency once mapped out a disaster plan for the occurrence of another geomagnetic “superstorm,” noting that the rare—yet “high-consequence”—scenario has “the potential for catastrophic impact on our nation and FEMA’s ability to respond.”

Lots of sites and pages on social media are playing this up! Confirmation that the end times are here!

….I look at it a bit differently.

First off if such an event occurred we would be barely ready. Some agencies and people with islands including solar panels could be well off, but society as a whole would undoubtedly disintegrate rapidly. That is where the contingency plans may need to be focused.. The aftermath. The weeks–months, years?–without power in some locales. And the idea that our life, powered by electricity, would be essentially shifted into the abyss of cavemen lifestyles immediately.
Dapper dans donning suits and ties at work? That goes away quickly. That facade you’re comfortably acting out only works with heat, air conditioning, and lights.

I am glad the government is planning things out. A solar flare of epic proportions happened before. It will happen again. All things, when able to happen, will happen. Disasters. Good days. Bad days. Asteroids. Water supply problems. Droughts. Floods.
    And yes, solar storms.

The government needs to be better prepared. While they are at it they should also being hunting down killer asteroids that potentially can end life.
And we can all hope that an asteroid doesn’t coincide with the solar storm.
    …that…that..would be hell on earth.

‘UFO’ shimmering bright in UK night sky

    From the UK DAILY MAIL:

The video, taken by a resident from Frome, shows streaks of light over nearby Cley hill which is 2 miles from UFO town Warminster.
The footage, which lasts a few minutes, shows the peculiar light moving in circular directions in the night sky.

‘I took this video from my house in Frome last night. It was over the Cley Hill area I think, which is always a hotspot for UFOs’, the resident who took the video told Somerset Live.
‘Probably a drone with a fancy flame effect tail or something. It’s been spotted a few times locally’, the resident said.

  • April fools! A comet will NOT hit earth

April fools! A comet will NOT hit earth

….first of all, let me say this: April fools day is the most wretched day of the year. In the old days (pre 2016) ‘fake news’ was abundant on April fools day. Now fake news is just out there every day.

Anyway, be sure of this: Tomorrow you will hear someone famous died, a war started somewhere, and aliens landed. All of it will be very unfunny lame jokes on you. April Fool’s day. Awful.. just awful.

But what IS true is this: A comet will not hit earth..

A comet named 41P/Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresák is set to make its closest flyby to Earth since it was originally discovered in 1858.

A few days before Tuttle-Giacobini-Kresák reaches perihelion, the comet will be very near its closest point to Earth for a 6-day period between March 29 and April 3, according to Space.com.

The absolute closest it will come to the Earth will be smack in the middle of that date range — on April Fools’ Day — when it will zoom by approximately 13.2 million miles away. Pending atmospheric conditions, viewers in the Northern Hemisphere should be able to see it on Saturday night around 9 PM EST near the handle of the Big Dipper — however, since the comet is less than a mile in diameter, you’ll need either high-quality binoculars or a telescope to check it out.

There may be an article or two tomorrow that the comet will strike. But it won’t.

HOWEVER.. that said.. so often we are hit with stories of night skies lighting up from asteroids or comets that have gone undetected.. from meteors and space rocks flying through the atmosphere. So it’s not comforting, at least to me, to think that a comet is making a close flyby.

Space is vast and large.. we’re a pale blue dot.
    ….folks, it’s just a matter of time.
April fools or not. One day it won’t be a joke regulated to the final story on late local news after sports and weather..

Asteroid will zoom past Earth in FOURTH close shave of 2017

Asteroid will zoom past Earth in FOURTH close shave of 2017:

2017 BS32  is expected to hurtle past at around 8.30pm Thursday.

The space rock – estimated to be around 82ft in size – belongs to the Aten group of asteroids.

Several of the thousands of Atens have been classed as “potentially hazardous” because of their proximity to Earth.

It was only spotted on Monday by astronomers and is the fourth Near-Earth Asteroid to pass this year, according to eagle-eyed asteroid watchers.

But fear not, these close encounters are more common than you might think and researchers at Nasa are keeping tabs on any strays at its Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Tonight’s close shave will be followed by another giant comet which will approach later this month.

The 2016 WF9, was detected by Nasa in late November and is something of a mystery because of its strange behavior.

At some point we will not be lucky.

Buzz Aldrin has been released from a hospital in New Zealand.. but conspiracy theories abound!

Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin has been released from a hospital in New Zealand and is on a flight back to the United States, according to a tweet from his manager, Christina Korp.

Aldrin, 86, was hospitalized in Christchurch on December 2 after being evacuated from the South Pole when his medical condition deteriorated. He was part of a tourist group visiting Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station through luxury tourism company White Desert. The trip was expected to last through December 12..

This piece of information is great to hear..
But .. along with it comes conspiracy.

In case you didn’t hear, the news goes as this: Supposedly a Buzz Aldrin tweet about Antarctica was deleted shortly after being posted.. The REDDIT world noticed it. The original conspiracy began on BEFORE IT’S NEWS..

Read the comments section on the article for some fun.. truly appears that conspiracy mania is alive and well when it comes to Antarctica, the idea of secret bases and leaders going down for a ride… to … view the end times coming?

    TIME WILL TELL!

It’s been a bad week for astronauts. Godspeed Buzz. Don’t punch anyone in the face on the way to recovery.

  • Kepler’s big day!! More planets to potentially find life!?

Kepler’s big day!! More planets to potentially find life!?

    This is exciting..

Just when you lost hope in finding life out there somewhere! There are 1284 more new exoplanets to study!

The big announcement came from NASA today — they are doubling down on earlier projections of planets that could contain life.

This artist's concept depicts select planetary discoveries made to date by NASA's Kepler space telescope.

“One of the great questions of all time, and one of NASA’s objective’s, is whether we are alone in the universe,” said Paul Hertz, director of astrophysics at NASA, at a conference. “We live in time where we can scientifically answer that question.”

Wired also posted a story tonight about the exoplanets but also new bragging rights that NASA can claim:

But that was the old way. Part of today’s announcement was trumpeting a new technique, developed by Princeton astrophysicist Timothy Morton. His method uses paired simulations, comparing values from previous exoplanet observations to current measurements. The first compares the flicker in question to other confirmed signatures of both exoplanets and imposters. The second simulation determines whether—given what scientists know about the total distribution of exoplanets in the Milky Way—the flicker in question makes sense as an exoplanet. Combined, the two simulations assign each flicker a statistical probability of being an exoplanet.

Don’t you think we will find life out there?

    [wp_ad_camp_3]

BUT DIDN’T WE FIND THE LIFE ALREADY!?I
know, I know.. Life is already been found, some of you would say. Others actually argue that the life came here to abduct people to experiment on them.. free range over cows and look for the meat? … all of those Linda Moulten Howe types of things. Hardcore UFO after midnight radio stuff..

There are even some who may claim that if life DID exist it surely does not now! That it has come and gone.. died away..

Remember, even this ‘structure’ that we have seen 1500 lights years away is 1500 years in the past—if the life was there could it have extinguished since?

By the time life finds earth will WE be gone?

All of these amazing questions! No answers, either. Which is why they are so much fun to ask.

The newest piece of information to make things more exciting: 1284 possible new planets that can harbor life .. in a zone where life could work, be real.. and exist.

…..I wonder if one of those planets is having an election this year?

Who is afraid of a potentially life ending asteroid on Halloween!?
    Not us earthlings!

Costumes will still be donned.. makeup still applied. Scantily clad outfits at Saturday night Halloween parties still being stuck on..

Even though this was just discovered: An enormous asteroid will whiz past earth..

    CREDIT: The IFL SCIENCE website:

2009 FD will approach within 6,194,000 km of Earth, about 16.3 times further away than the Moon. The asteroid was discovered in February 2009, a month before its closest recorded approach to Earth on March 27, 2009, at a distance of 624,100 km. 2015 TB145 will pass about 500,000 km from Earth, just beyond the lunar orbit.

2009 FD has been tracked by several instruments since its discovery. It was first estimated to be 130 meters in size by NASA’s Near Earth Program. A better estimate for its size came from NASA’s NEOWISE, which gave a value of 470 meters, although this is considered anupper limit.

2015 TB145 was discovered just over a week ago by the Pan-STARRS I telescope in Hawaii, and it has an estimated size of 320 meters. The passing of 2015 TB145 will be the closest approach by something this large until asteroid August 2027, when 1999 AN10 will pass within one lunar distance (380,000 km). NASA has given these objects a value of 1 on the Torino Scale, which is the value assigned to non-dangerous asteroids.

    Business as usual.

This week, the buzz was clear.. there is a potential “megastructure” somewhere out there..  it is a structure, or thing in space, that blocks a lot of sunlight..
