The silent Olympics: They missed the target

Excitement has not raged … as a matter of fact it was almost like there was no point to doing the Olympics this year.. NBC and Japan could have benefited highly from postponing until 2022..

And now as the games come to and end, it appears no one cared!

  • There has been a significant decline in Olympic viewership this year compared to previous games
  • NBC has seen ‘underwhelming ratings’ for the Tokyo Olympics, likely fueled by backlash from athletes protesting the American flag and national anthem
  • 14.7 million viewers tuned into the Tokyo games during primetime on July 26, a decrease of 49 percent and 53 percent in 2016 and 2012 respectively
  • The opening ceremonies also saw the lowest viewership since 1988
