Except for initial hot spots like New York City, many ERs across the U.S. were often eerily empty in the spring of 2020. Terrified of contracting COVID-19, people who were sick with other things did their best to stay away from hospitals. Visits to emergency departments dropped to half their normal levels, according to the Epic Health Research Network, and didn’t fully rebound until the summer of 2021.
But now, they’re too full. Even in parts of the country where COVID-19 isn’t overwhelming the health system, patients are showing up to the ER sicker than they were before the pandemic, their diseases more advanced and in need of more complicated care.

On Wednesday, the NIH sent a letter to members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce that acknowledged two facts. One was that EcoHealth Alliance, a New York City–based nonprofit that partners with far-flung laboratories to research and prevent the outbreak of emerging diseases, did indeed enhance a bat coronavirus to become potentially more infectious to humans, which the NIH letter described as an “unexpected result” of the research it funded that was carried out in partnership with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The second was that EcoHealth Alliance violated the terms of its grant conditions stipulating that it had to report if its research increased the viral growth of a pathogen by tenfold.

SO MUCH FOR THAT!
The White House announced late Friday that it would further postpone the release of more documents related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, pointing to the “significant impact” of the Covid-19 pandemic.
President Joe Biden issued a memo that said the national archivist recommended he “‘direct two public releases of the information that has ultimately ‘been determined to be appropriate for release to the public.’” The first will be an “interim release” later this year, with a second, “more comprehensive release in late 2022,” the memo said.
The memo said that the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed down the process of reviewing whether redactions continue to meet the “statutory standard”…

An assistant director handed Alec Baldwin a prop firearm and yelled “cold gun” before the actor fired and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, according to court documents…

The “cold gun” remark was meant to indicate that the weapon did not have live rounds, according to an affidavit for a search warrant for the movie set filed by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and obtained by CNN affiliate KOAT.

Baldwin was handed one of three prop guns by assistant director David Halls that were set up in a cart by an armorer.
Halls did not know there were live rounds in the gun, the affidavit said. But when the he fired the gun, a live round hit Hutchins, 42, in the chest and wounded Souza, 48, who was nearby, according to the affidavit. Hutchins was pronounced dead at the hospital after being airlifted, the affidavit says.

The “cold gun” claim is made a little more murky when you consider this: Meg Hames from the TIMES reported: “A colleague was so alarmed by the prop gun misfires he sent a text message to the unit production manager. “We’ve now had 3 accidental discharges. This is super unsafe,” according to a copy of the message reviewed by the Times.”
Even more: The cinematographer who was accidentally killed, Halyna Hutchins, had been advocating for safer conditions for her team, said one crew member who was on the set and was tearful when the camera crew left…

Alec Baldwin, 68, shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the set of upcoming film Rust
Baldwin fired a prop gun that ejected a ‘projectile’ which is thought to have hit Hutchins in the stomach
She was taken to hospital by air ambulance after the 1.50pm shooting, but was pronounced dead shortly after
Jel Souza, 48, the film’s writer-director, was also wounded and taken to hospital but has since been released
Baldwin was taken for questioning by police but was not arrested and has not been charged. He was pictured outside the sheriff’s office looking distraught – doubled over into the curb in grief and weeping on the phone
Sheriffs say the weapon was fired either during a scene or rehearsal for a scene, though it is not clear whether it was fired on purpose or by accident. It is not clear how the ‘projectile’ was loaded, with a probe ongoing

It seems to be that time of year when the sky begins to fall! We have already been warned of several astroids nearing close to earth within the next few weeks. This one, well, is “natural” according to some..

THE HIGHLIGHT OF HALLOWEEN KILLS MAY HAVE BEEN DR. LOOMIS! Who was it that played him!? Not CGI.. It is played by Tom Jones Jr., and it was a brave choice in a time when everything is recreated with computers..

He is not an actor! Instead Jones is a a prolific construction coordinator, having worked on projects such as The Abyss, The Conjuring and the Swamp Thing series.
He also bears an resemblance to Donald Pleasence, so when combined with the voice of soundalike Colin Mahan – who voiced the doctor on an audio recording in Halloween 2018 – Loomis was starring in the 1978 flashback scene of Halloween Kills.
Perhaps HALLOWEEN KILLS would have been smarter to give us an entire flashback movie..
The first few minutes of the film were an homage but also inspired that same 1978 feeling thanks to camera work and lighting.. the scenery mimicked the original film spectacularly, and the music matched. Maybe instead of the modern version, an entire retro movie would have been better. . . ? With Jones as Loomis for good measure…
