It’s only a test..

The Emergency Alert System is going to scare lots of people today around 2pm, but the government is trying to limit the impact of fear by telling Americans it’s just a test. Don’t panic. What is a bit troubling though is the length of time the test will last–three and a half minutes.. If it was a real emergency I’d assume it would be 24/7 broadcasting with the same exact computerized voice and very few details. The real details would come online, unless of course the government snatched control with a kill switch at the last minute and shut down all net connections and took them over for themselves and the military..

Today’s potentially frightening test has been planned out for some time.. But the reasoning for it? The disasters the United States and world forced in 2011 make it more clear that this system must be test.. So they say. And disasters did occur a’plenty.

Not to sound the conspiracy alarm or panic button, but this test is intriguing when coupled with a summer announcement from NASA’s head telling his employees to prepare for disasters.. Not mentioned of course was what disaster, when, and how bad.. if NASA knew..

Strange year indeed..

Earthquakes in the East.. West.. Midwest.. Floods.. Droughts.. Tornadoes.. Tsunamis.. Disease outbreaks.. Hurricanes.. Blizzards in October.

Ok.. I get it, TEST THE ALERT SYSTEM.

The planet earth: 7 billion strong

Is it strong..?
The planet is now celebrating or maybe lamenting the 7 billionth person on the planet..

The billions gone and the billions to come is unfathomable.. the prospect of having enough water for 7, maybe 10 billion, is scary.. enough food?

…too much corn goes for gas.

Let us be strong, here on the pale blue dot.
Let us be forward thinking.. and let us be at peace.

Hopefully the 7 billion can come up with some solutions to the trillions of problems we are facing.. or just go the way of other failed populations: Destruction with our own mistakes at the cause of the annihilation

Intrigue over constant Arkansas quakes: Does it portend a larger shake coming or is gas fracking the culprit?

For months, earthquakes have rattled the state of Arkansas. The swarm has now produced 1,000 earthquakes since September 2010 through July 2011–and even more since.

The quakes have been centered between Guy and Greenbrier. It has become so concerning to officials that the Arkansas Oil & Gas Commission ordered four gas wells to be shut down. Geologists blamed hydraulic fracturing for the tremors in the area. But now, ten miles north of Guy, shaking is continuing..

According to a report in the Arkansas Democrat GAZETTE, some worry now that tension is building beneath the surface of the earth in the state. Scott Ausbrooks, geohazards supervisor for the Arkansas Geological Survey, said that the situation ‘bears watching.’ He told the DEMOCRAT GAZETTE, “I’m not saying that’s what it is. I don’t want to scare people and I don’t want to say it’s going to happen. It’s just something we’re looking at.”

The Arkansas paper goes on to report:

The continuing shaking could also be related to ongoing drilling activity about 8 miles outside of Quitman, Ausbrooks said, though he noted that’s a significant distance. Or it might be tied somehow to the plugging of one of those four shuttered wells.

Ausbrooks said he couldn’t preliminarily pinpoint how the plugging of a well would induce quakes, but the shaking in Quitman started just days after the northernmost of the four closed wells was plugged.

“Right now, we’ll just say it’s a coincidence,” he said.

Gas extraction the key?
The blame?
The culprit?
Or is there something larger taking place? Something more concerning..

Friday into Saturday have brought six more earthquakes in the area.

The rattled nerves Arkansas towns rattled by earthquakes will not enjoy any form of solace in the thought that ‘it’s a coincidence.’ But at least it’s a hope. A hope that nothing larger is forming under the feet of the tiny towns that have been shaken now for years.

The Northeast United States, including the big cities along the I95 corridor, had a rare early season snowstorm today–dumping about a foot of snow in certain places. Thousands are without power Saturday night in the wake of the event..

EarthInformer headquarters was hit, too.. Pumpkins are covered. Ground is white. And it looks a lot more like Christmas than the season of the witch.

Snowstorm impacting the Northeast United States

Power outages are now being reported in four states, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Latest indications show about 60,000 + without electricity at the hour..

Snow at the rate of 2 inches per hour is falling in parts of Pennsylvania..

In Harrisburg, PA, thunder snow is widely being reported.. Thunder snow shows an intense increase in pressure, and the dynamics of the snowstorm are changing as the low pressure strengthens..

Some locations are forecast to get up to a foot of snow.. The impact will be widespread as nightfall comes and snow begins to stick on roadways not currently seeing any issues.

Further damage may occur as the snow increases its weight on power lines.
