Studio changes and new release dates announced

Ghostbusters has a July 10, 2020, release date, and Morbius — starring Jared Leto and based on Marvel’s vampire antihero — will come out three weeks later July 31. The July 10 date had been earmarked for a Marvel pic, which turns out was Morbius. Both films have their respective opening weekends to themselves for now.

VENOM 3 is likely for October 2, 2020 ..

Sony moved Greyhound back 14 months in the schedule from March 2019 to May 8, 2020, a date that marks the 75th anniversary of V-E Day — which makes sense for the fact-based movie about a WWII battle led by Commander Ernest Krause, played by Hanks. Meanwhile, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was shifted from this October 18 to November 22, which puts it in the potentially lucrative Thanksgiving Week frame. Hanks plays the iconic Rogers

M. Night Shyamalan was approached by Marvel and DC Comics.. and he said no!

M. Night Shyamalan was approached by Marvel and DC Comics to potentially deliver a story featuring their characters, but he is revealing that he felt as though he would be denied creative control on those universes, making him pass on those offers..’

“I want to make sure it’s right for everybody. I have a strong [filmmaking] accent. It’s very particular, and the best version of it is, to keep the accent,” Shyamalan shared with Yahoo when asked if he would apply his perspective to Marvel or DC. “Are those movies [Marvel and DC superhero films] a place for that? Or is it appropriate for that?”

“Because they, in and of themselves, have their own flavor. Do they want this other Tabasco in there? So it’s philosophically a question. It doesn’t mean [I’ll] never [do it], but it’s very hard to imagine. Filmmakers that have a heavy accent – I don’t necessarily want them to make those movies.”

“It’s not fair to [studios], because they want to make [their films] in a certain language,” the filmmaker pointed out. “And what if I said ‘Hey, I’m going to do this three-minute shot on the back of his head, and I also want to make them very dark, and I want his motivation to be really ambiguous, and I want to challenge the audience to make them super-uncomfortable.’ I want [the studio] to be OK with those things.”

M NIGHT expected to smash with GLASS this weekend!

Tracking is seeing Glass at $60M over four days at roughly 3,700 theaters in U.S. and Canada, but there are some who believe this pic, given its long fandom appeal, could jump to $70M. Glass cost in the low $20M before P&A to make and was completely financed by Shyamalan; the movie was a negative pickup for both Universal and BVI.

The best picture Oscar award does not matter…. NO one remembers who even wins it!

The 90th Academy Awards big winner of 2018, Guillermo Del Toro’s fantasy drama The Shape of Water, was correctly identified by only 20 percent of respondents in the survey as the Oscar best picture victor. (The nationally representative poll of 2,201 adults was conducted from Jan. 3 to Jan. 6 this year.)

Among the 2017 nominees, more respondents thought the Emma Stone-Ryan Gosling musical La La Land won best picture (20 percent) than the actual winner, Barry Jenkins’ drama Moonlight (12 percent). That year at least included an infamous mistake that caused confusion — Envelopegate, where, due to a mix-up, La La Land was unveiled as best picture by presenters before the right envelope was read several minutes later to crown Moonlight.

MORE And more proof that the best picture nomination and award could not matter a hill of beans.. Horror and fantasy, with action, prevail in the minds and habits of the viewing public… the best picture is limited to the elite who earn it. Not the masses of asses who view movies..

FIRST FALL WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Audience growing weary of politics

THE HOUSE WITH CLOCKS ON THE WALLS is winning the first weekend of autumn at the box office.. But others movies are faring poorly .. maybe the reason for the season is turning away from politics, especially. Michael Moore’s TRUMP doc FAHRENHEIT 11/9 is doing the worst of all new releases..

From DEADLINE:

The news isn’t good for a trio of high-profile fall festival films opening nationwide box office — Michael Moore’s new doc Fahrenheit 11/9, the edgy teen black comedy Assassination Nation and Dan Fogelman’s Life Itself, according to early returns.
The only new movie doing decent business is a more commercial, Hollywood studio offering: Eli Roth’s big-screen adaptation of the beloved kids book, The House With a Clock in Its Walls. The family friendly pic is headed for a weekend haul of $24 million-$25 million from 3,592 theaters after grossing $7.8 million on Friday, easily enough to top the chart.

And to be fair to Moore’s newest flick: FAHRENHEIT 9/11 was released in over 2,000 theaters. .this go around the Trump documentary has been released in roughly just over 1,700..

But we have, as a nation of pop culture digesters, become quite ill from too much Trump. Yes, its ratings. But equally so, it’s not when we want to escape at the theater..

CRAZY RICH ASIANS and THE MEG devour McCarthy’s comedy flop HAPPYTIME MURDERS

It has been yet ANOTHER brutal weekend for Melissa McCarthy..

Box office reports are indicating that the HAPPYTIME MURDERS has tanked..

Anthony D’Alessando reports it this way:

Which brings us to STX Entertainment’s raunchy, R-rated Melissa McCarthy-puppet comedy, The Happytime Murders, which is dead and wrapped in plastic with a $10.2M start, repping the Groundling alum’s lowest wide opening ever for one of her solo films – not counting St. Vincent, which was a platform release. Happytime Murders’ opening is even lower than McCarthy’s May PG-13 title Life of the Party ($17.9M), which we thought was rock bottom.

Beyond the disastrous box office numbers, ratings have been poor as well.

Lately, the rising comedy stardom of McCathy has diminished into a box office travesty.. Movie after movie seems like it gets worse. What was once star has become a shark.. bigger than MEG.. Mightier than CRAZY RICH ASIANS.

But even with all that said, I would love to see the movie and still want to.
I think it will be surprisingly better than movie critics and armchair critics on ROTTEN TOMATOES write.

I will give Brian Henson a chance.

Jurassic World gets a writer

Speaking with EW, Steven Spielberg said that “Colin Trevorrow is going write and direct the third Jurassic World story.”

Emily Carmichael will write the script with Colin Trevorrow. Steven Spielberg will of course return to executive produce, alongside Trevorrow.

Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley also return as producers.

The trilogy-ender will arrive on June 11, 2021.

Why Jennifer Lawrence’s movie ‘Mother!” bombed at the box office – INSIDER:

The ideas come from an outside source.. not my thoughts nor did I see the film. Most likely won’t.

But perhaps the best reason the foiled attempt at a movie really flopped? People found out about a scene in it that probably went too far, even for ‘art’ and allegory:

A cult kills a baby, tears it to pieces, eats it, and beats up Jennifer Lawrence. It’s not easy to recommend to friends.

mother! just scored Jennifer Lawrence the worst box office opening of her career..

The reviews were awful.
The critics panned..
The citizens revolted and were revulsed.

Babies were not harmed in the filming, but everyone’s eyes who watched an infant be eaten were..

This movie may have been the worst scored movie in years… An “F” with CinemaScore.. some of the worst and most sarcastic reviews and comments on ROTTEN TOMATOES..

Today Jennifer Lawrence is suffering the worst wide box office opening of her career..

Darren Aronofsky’s mother! stalled in its domestic box office debut, earning an estimated $7.5 million from 2,368 theaters after receiving a rare F CinemaScore and facing competition from blockbuster It.
mother!, an elevated psychological horror-thriller, supplants The House at the End of the Street($12.3 million) to mark the lowest nationwide launch of Jennifer Lawrence’s career. The Paramount title, costing $30 million to produce, came in No. 3 for the weekend behind It and new offering American Assassin. (In a sign that summer is over, all three titles are rated R.)
Warner Bros. and New Line’s It continued to make history in its second weekend, declining a scant 51 percent to $60 million from 4,103 theaters, the biggest sophomore outing ever for a horror title.
