Conjuring up some thoughts..not a review.. But some thoughts

The CONJURING had a great feel, that 1970s music and the drabby 70s browns and oranges.. the clothing was great, cars were old, and the Volkswagen bus somehow was somehow still running long enough to have a prominent role in the movie.

The character development worked well. The stories of the Perron family and Ed and Lorraine Warren seemed true to the spirit of the actual people they portrayed.

A crowded theater is the best place to watch the CONJURING. The scary scenes are quite predictable. Doors open.. the floor creeks. And boom, a giant Satanic beast in on top of you! Ok, a few of those scenes caught me off guard. As did the final exorcism scene as it played out.

I never read the book HOUSE OF DARKNESS HOUSE OF LIGHT but I am sure going to try to now, after seeing this film. I read that they did not take liberties with the story. So if they did not take liberties, judging from the final scene in this movie Pope Paul IV should have taken the first red eye out of Rome to get to this house.

I am not trying to spoil things for people that did not see it, but be prepped for a mom who wants to murder her children. I left wondering, ‘there was a police officer, ON DUTY, bitten, and post-exorcism still did not want to take mom down to the station for questioning, or perhaps a good mental health check? I know it was 1971 and Richard Nixon was President, but by then we had the Environmental Protection Agency, so there was some progress, right?

I said before it’s best to see THE CONJURING in a crowded theater, as it’s fun to watch others jump and hear nearby teenagers screaming in fear at every slight music change.. I am not sure this movie ‘changed’ horror as some have said, but it certainly led me down a personal quest for information. So in that regard, it had an effect.

I want to find out a few things.

I want to know why Ed and Lorraine believe Amityville is true along with this possession story? I want to know if Lorraine is still active now that Ed is dead.. and I certainly want to know what happened to all of those artifacts and frightening icons of the devil that the Warrens kept in their private locked room.

I also have been perusing the Warrens’ website lately.. I think the part that scares me the most is the lack of HTML development, and the inclusion of some old songs that sound quite frightening after all this time. (http://www.warrens.net/Annabelle.html).

And finally, I am asking myself, as I have done so many times before in life, this question: Is there a God, and is there a Satan?

We have heard so many opine on the existence of both, and along with that fundamentalists are as sure of God as Satan worshipers are of the devil incarnate. But I think most of us don’t know at all. We can have faith.. but that faith will be tested throughout life. The Warrens in this movie seemed to have faith and never consider anything at test of it, but instead it only fortified their belief in God.

No spoilers intended, but there is a quote at the end of the CONJURING. It was said, I suppose, from Ed Warren: “The fairy tale is true. The devil does exist. God indeed exists. And for us, as people, our very destiny hinges upon which one we elect to follow.”

The CONJURING succeeded in the scare department.. it was good with the characters.. it left some items to be desired and opened the door for questions as to whether the mental health of the Perron family should have been studied further.

But it succeeded most of all in forcing us all to ask the question, quietly as we drove home: Was Ed Warren’s quote 100% right?

More speculation as yet another cryptic message by Art Bell is put on Facebook

It seems like for years now that speculation has been rampant online, ever since Art Bell left the show Coast to Coast a.m. in 2010..

Any followers of this website will know that we too have speculated about his strange sometimes cryptic messages put on Facebook, and now on his Twitter account..

And now another Sunday comes in another cryptic messages put online, this time it seems that the former radio host is asking for patients before he makes an announcement of… Well whatever the announcement will be..

Here is the screenshot of his latest message:

He has some very ardent fans and supporters, but some have actually felt their previous anticipation suddenly dashed when he made hints that he would return to radio before announcing that the deal and time was not right..

So now the messages are beginning again, as are the questions: Is the time and moment right, now?

I suppose we will all see ‘soon’.

THE CONJURING: Better than expected, as we expeted

THE PROFIT RESULTS ARE STORNG WITH THIS ONE

Box office results are coming in.. THE CONJURING has reason to celebrate a strong weekend–as the HORROR REPORT predicted early this weekend, the ticket sale results was even stronger than studio estimates..

The movie should make a little under $40 mil by the time they stop counting..

THE CONJURING was the beneficiary of strong reviews, along with A- reviews from CinemaScore.. Movie critics could not find much to dislike, as they often do with horror films..Even more, some compared it to classics like THE AMITYVILLE HORROR..

This may be the last horror film for a while James Wan–from SAW fame, no less..

The CONJURING is a very different movie from the SAW franchise.. The newest horror flick has been noted for its lack of gore and blood, replacing it instead with a chilling story that is supposedly based on true events.. What you do not see in THE CONJURING is more frightening than any of the goriest scenes that were seen in SAW..

The ‘true story’ aspect of THE CONJURING may have helped pushed this film into scarier terrain. Some may recall the ‘true events’ angle that THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT advertised. Back in the 20th century, prior to the overused information superhighway, many actually watched BLAIR WITCH thinking they were witnesses a real amateur home video..you may recall that.. I certainly do, because it was fun to point out to those who believed it that it was the the furthest thing from the truth you can find..

But THE CONJURING is a little tougher–this film supposedly examines the 1971 haunting of the Perron family. Even more interesting: This film did not stray far from the course of the book about the incident written by an eye witness in the family called HOUSE OF DARKNESS HOUSE OF LIGHT: THE TRUE STORY..

CONJURING director James Wan said that the Perron family saw the film and had ‘gratitude’ for what was done for them in the movie.. Wan said that the film did not portray the family as outlandish or ‘nutty’.. instead the film took the liberty of believing the Perron story..

The film has been called the horror movie of the year and the sleeper hit of the summer–we will see what staying power the movie has..

One aspect of the film’s success this week may have been a poor competition–though some would say Bruce Willis and Anthony Hopkins et al should have done much better with RED 2 than they actually did..

As for the HORROR REPORT: We did not see the film yet but intend on doing so tonight.. my ticket sales will be added to the $39 mil that the film collected in revenue..

This ROLLING STONE issue makes that point–with even CVS an other retailers saying it is going to ban the magazine from being sold in its stores! We continue to be victims of some pretty high rolling mind games. Take a peek outside your box, America.. there’s more to every story.

Speaking of debating about things that do not matter:

Jenny McCarthy tapped to co-host THE VIEW.. outrage now due to her critical comments about vaccines causing autism.. Yet again, proof Americans get outraged and angry about things that do not matter one hill of beans. At all.. No matter WHAT she thinks about anything.. that is the purpose. She is supposed to be controversial. This is for ratings. Americans who are outraged by this: YOU ARE BEING PLAYED, good.

Moving on to something that does matter: Syrians are fleeing from war at a rate not seen since the Rwandan genocide.. That comes to us from the United Nations.. According to the UN, the number of people fleeing the conflict in Syria has escalated to an average of 6,000 a day during 2013 – a rate not seen since the genocide in Rwanda nearly two decades ago, U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres said on Tuesday… And if anyone remembers those dark days in Rwanda, go back through amnesia lane and treat yourself to some horrid history from the mid 90s..

Update: 23 dead children in India simply for eating a school lunch.. This is such a horrible story.. That is their only crime in life.. eating a school lunch . And now of course the ‘government will investigate’.. And I am sure find allllll the ‘answers’.. There are already some answers, at least some bits of information, being released: The food was laced with pesticides..

For some reason, I always would like to think that a jury goes behind doors to deliberate in a hot, sweaty room without an air conditioner working, like in 12 ANGRY MEN. In the case of the George Zimmerman trial, there were no men, and not even 12 people, instead six as Florida allows for a jury trial. Now information has been released about their sequestration .. While in confinement, they enjoyed pedicures, they were permitted to go bowling, shop at the mall, go to the Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum.. and had some dinners at the Outback Steakhouse. Now I don’t decry them for their luxuries.. this was a long trial and they did not get to see their family.. But could they at least have chosen the Texas Roadhouse over Outback? Outback does not even rate! And finally.. I trust that they ….did not see any newspapers while they were out and about, when they used to go out…?
