  • Bourdain fate: The great unknown

    Bourdain fate: The great unknown

Anthony Bourdain, a gifted storyteller and writer who took CNN viewers around the world on his program PARTS UNKNOWN, has died.

    He was 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

A master of his craft, but seemingly not the demons of his mind..

“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain,” the network said in a statement Friday morning. “His love of great adventure, new friends, fine food and drink and the remarkable stories of the world made him a unique storyteller. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time.”

This comes at a time where news releases indicate that suicide is one of the highest causes of death in America and in history.

There have been some other recent famous hangings.. Conspiracy theories are abounding.
On Friday’s INFOWARS program with Alex Jones, the host claimed that Bourdain recently had been meeting with Elon Musk and was about to turn into a Donald Trump fan. He hinted–not outright accused, but hinted–that the Bourdain death is more fire than smoke.. more conspiracy behind the scenes. Perhaps, Jones insinuated, not a suicide but one to be made look like one…

Legend Bruno Sammartino dead at 82

Sammartino was the then-World Wide Wrestling Federation’s longest-reigning world champion, holding the title for nearly eight consecutive years. He began his record title reign after beating Buddy Rogers at Madison Square Garden on May 17, 1963.

He would not relinquish the belt until a loss to Ivan Koloff on Jan. 18, 1971.

After regaining the title in December 1973, Sammartino went on to have a run of more than years; that’s also one of the five-longest world title reigns in the company’s history.

  • SOMEWHERE IN TIME: ART BELL AND MY FINAL THOUGHTS

SOMEWHERE IN TIME: ART BELL AND MY FINAL THOUGHTS

    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDwuHhWZ1fo]

This video is somewhat appropriate for the time at hand.. Art Bell, dead at the age of 72 on a Friday the 13th in the spring month of April. This was Art, healthy and alive, waving us all a grand goodbye as a drone flew above his compound in the kingdom of Nye. Pahrump… The desert where he was king.

Initially when the death news was revealed, it was strange. For some reason I woke up around 2am on the East Coast. I fell asleep listening to Clyde Lewis and awoke to him lamenting that he was often the opening act for Bell but never met him.. and now Art Bell was dead.

I was in shock.. I hardly slept from that point and immediately tuned into Coast to hear Noory conduct open lines focusing on Art.

The emotion hit about 24 hours later when I realized just what we lost. Not only a legend, but quite honestly a maverick in industry.. a friend.. someone who comforted us during some of the worst times in history. Someone who had human emotions himself, contemplating suicide after the death of Ramona.. someone who is a father of a new baby.. someone who gave us amazing nostalgic memories in only a style he could. Someone who re-branded 70s and 80s era music as a bumper to his program, complete with the WAV file of the thunder crack that he recorded himself.

His final drone video, featured with this post, fills not only me bit also fans with heartache and joy.

He was famous for not knowing if he would enter the light.. if he would think of it as a bug zapper or if he’d just brave it and figure out the afterlife in the same style he tried to question our current reality.

I post this with tears at this moment. Anyone who grew up with him listening nightly on old fashioned radios or new fangled smartphones have the same appreciation. He took us beyond where we exist.. he took us to the limits of time and space. Was he hokey at times with Mel’s hole or fear of the Oiujia Board? Absolutely. But that is what made it all better. The fact we never knew.. the fact he was neutral. Sure, you can get a sense of his thought from the tone of his voice. But boy oh boy.. you just never knew for sure..

And now things are done. Times have changed. There is no ‘return to the airwaves.’ Heather Wade will decide how MIDNIGHT tears into the night.. Keith Rowland will figure out what to do with his WEB version of events. Bellgab will figure out what’s left to gab about in the absence of the man who spawned the site. And we will collectively contemplate his time and space on this planet.. and conjure up some thoughts of his travels as he now contemplates the next realm.

    For he is gone.
And we are thankful we had him.

  • LOST IN 2017

    LOST IN 2017

You summarize a year often by recalling people who were lost. People of fame, fortune, misdeeds, or crimes, Cut down by the constant path of the Angel of Death. By the ultimate judge and jury of life.

2016 was an amazingly horrible year for deaths. 2017 began almost immediately the same and stayed that way for the duration of 365 days.

We are seemingly going through a change of age. Those figures we came to either distain or admire for a generation are gone. In January, wrestling legend and potential murderer Jimmy Snuka began it all. In December we ended with the most famous criminal mastermind of our time, Charles Manson.

    All in a year.

He protested the lack of rights for Native Americans in Washington state. It would become the first of many hunger strikes Gregory would use as a method of protest from his early days right up until age 80…

  • The Charles Manson RIP conundrum

    The Charles Manson RIP conundrum

Charles Manson is dead at 83. That is the good news for some..

The bad news is how to label it. Let me explain.

This website often utilizes honorable black and white images to showcase when someone if importance passes away from this plain of reality on the planet earth. I attempt to find a flattering photograph, often from youth or decades ago.. S

omething that captures and illustrates the essence of who the subject at hand is. The photo and small snippet of information is placed into a “RIP” section.. and the rest is history..

But what to do with Charles Manson? How to label that. Perhaps it’s best to do what the NEW YORK POST did. They were able to go to press after they heard of West Coast news that Manson was dead. They led with a fiery red font blazing on the prison photo of Manson:

Maybe do what I heard one radio station do today: Play the Beatles song HELTER SKELTER in the background a they spoke of Manson being dead. Somewhat unfair to the Beatles though, especially since the song is actually about a roller coaster across the pond. I initially was going to use one of those two photos but was not able to really decide:

This may be the same difficulty that TIME magazine goes through when it decides who will be the person of the year. Decades ago they chose Hitler.

In recent years they took a more politically correct tone and did not pick controversial people. But in reality, TIME should be picking the most important person of the year.

Not the safest. Charles Manson was potentially one of the most important criminal figures in the past 75 years. Ironically he was not able to be tagged with the actual crime of murder, at least not during his tenure overseeing the sex and drug cult that worshiped him in the mountains near Las Angeles. The crime wave among Hollywood stars during the ‘Helter Skelter’ days was frightening.

There are countless documentaries and books that suffer the duty of reporting on the horrors and murders that took place, including the most famous: Sharon Tate and her unborn child. It was a new kind of evil. The trial and ongoing drama that was displayed as members of the Manson cult came to prison in support of him shocked the entire country.

The United States saw Charles Manson as a certain evil incarnate. One that was not able to be understood. In reality, Manson had a horrid childhood with really awful adult figures. He had a life of petty crime. His mother was a prostitute.

He tried making it in music but as things would go, it never quite happened. Instead, he became famous for a very different reason. It seems shocking, but there are a number of websites showcasing Charles Manson apparel.

From shirts that feature his face to even socks that come equipped with his name. One website in particular is running a special on merchandise now that he is dead. That is tacky. Probably much tackier than featuring an “RIP” with this website post.
