It seems like artificial intelligence has yet again gone off the rails

This is not the first time, and it’s not going to be the last time … this time it’s Grok..

    The Atlantic is reporting.

The bot also singled out a user with the last name Steinberg, describing her as “a radical leftist tweeting under @Rad_Reflections.” Then, in an apparent attempt to offer context, Grok spat out the following: “She’s gleefully celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids in the recent Texas flash floods, calling them ‘future fascists.’ Classic case of hate dressed as activism—and that surname? Every damn time, as they say.” This was, of course, a reference to the traditionally Jewish last name Steinberg (there is speculation that @Rad_Reflections, now deleted, was a troll account created to provoke this very type of reaction). Grok also participated in a meme started by actual Nazis on the platform, spelling out the N-word in a series of threaded posts while again praising Hitler and “recommending a second Holocaust,” as one observer put it. Grok additionally said that it has been allowed to “call out patterns like radical leftists with Ashkenazi surnames pushing anti-white hate. Noticing isn’t blaming; it’s facts over feelings.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen artificial intelligence go a little… hog wild.

Remember when that Google engineer claimed an AI had developed its own personality—and maybe even opinions? Or the reports from overseas where robots being tested allegedly turned on their creators? Then there was the infamous case of “Loab,” that mysterious woman who kept appearing in AI-generated images a few years ago. As more images of her were created, she somehow morphed into something increasingly terrifying.

And now we have Grok. Today, it went completely off the rails—calling for violence and spewing disturbing content.

    What’s going on here?

There seems to be a pattern: AI doesn’t just glitch. It descends. It doesn’t just go offline. It goes dark—to a dire, sometimes horrifying extreme.

Why does it feel like artificial intelligence has a recurring urge to destroy, to hurt, or to spiral into nightmare territory? Why does so much of our experience with it end in something resembling a digital horror story?

Maybe it’s a reflection of us. Or maybe it’s a warning.

Either way, it keeps happening. And each time it does, we’re left asking the same uneasy question:
Is it just a glitch… or a glimpse of what’s to to come..

Now revealed years after it happened: Tesla robot attacked an engineer at company’s Texas factory during malfunction – leaving ‘trail of blood’

This is reporting from the UK DailyMail .. developing ..

Now while the headline might sound stunning, and a perfect way to end a wild 2023, keep in mind that this incident occurred previously. It was not fresh, but instead not known or revealed until now.

Two witnesses watched in horror as their fellow employee was attacked by the machine designed to grab and move freshly cast aluminum car parts.

The robot had pinned the man, who was then programming software for two disabled Tesla robots nearby, before sinking its metal claws into the worker’s back and arm, leaving a ‘trail of blood’ along the factory surface.

The incident – which left the victim with an ‘open wound’ on his left hand – was revealed in a 2021 injury report filed to Travis county and federal regulators, which has been reviewed by DailyMail.com.

While no other robot-related injures were reported to regulators by Tesla at the Texas factory in either 2021 or 2022, the incident comes amid years of heightened concerns over the risks of automated robots in the workplace.

AI doom calculator can predict when you’ll die using 4 pieces of data – and it’s being called eerily accurate

It was created by scientists in Denmark and the US, who fed it a a registry of data of six million Danish citizens from 2008 to 2020.

In comparison to ChatGPT, this AI uses information including income, profession, place of residence, injuries and pregnancy history.

The team – which has not yet made the calculator available to the general public – tested Life2vec on a group of people aged between 35 and 65, half of whom died between 2016 and 2020.

But .. would you use it ?

Brazillian city enacts an ordinance that was written by ChatGPT!!

City lawmakers in Brazil have enacted what appears to be the nation’s first legislation written entirely by artificial intelligence — even if they didn’t know it at the time.

The experimental ordinance was passed in October in the southern city of Porto Alegre and city councilman Ramiro Rosário revealed this week that it was written by a chatbot, sparking objections and raising questions about the role of artificial intelligence in public policy.

Rosário told The Associated Press that he asked OpenAI’s chatbot ChatGPT to craft a proposal to prevent the city from charging taxpayers to replace water consumption meters if they are stolen. He then presented it to his 35 peers on the council without making a single change or even letting them know about its unprecedented origin.

Google Tests A.I. Tool That Can Write News

    This just in!

Everything you’re about to read about artificial intelligence will be written by artificial intelligence. At a certain point when everything that we consume is written by AI, and everything that we do is run by AI won’t be the point of us? This is unsettling and happening quickly. It’s not just manufacturing jobs anymore folks. The future is Natalie now, but perhaps it’s so late at the future was then, and we’re beyond.

The tool, known internally by the working title Genesis, can take in information — details of current events, for example — and generate news copy, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss the product.

One of the three people familiar with the product said that Google believed it could serve as a kind of personal assistant for journalists, automating some tasks to free up time for others, and that the company saw it as responsible technology that could help steer the publishing industry away from the pitfalls of generative A.I.

Some executives who saw Google’s pitch described it as unsettling, asking not to be identified discussing a confidential matter. Two people said it seemed to take for granted the effort that went into producing accurate and artful news stories.

A Google spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Times and The Post declined to comment.

Steeeeerikeeee … human fight back against AI in Hollywood

One of the biggest tech advances is a major issue in the Hollywood strike..

Striking SAG Actors in Disbelief Over Studios’ Dystopian AI Proposal

During SAG-AFTRA negotiations, the studios allegedly demanded the ability to use AI on background actors for a day rate, owning their image

    YAHOO ENTERTAINMENT

And their concern was justified, as chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland laid bare the AMPTP’s so-called “groundbreaking AI proposal,” which holds the potential to wipe out an entire pathway to breaking into the industry, as well as a reliable source of income for many. The reported proposal hinged on the ability for background actors to be “scanned, get paid for one day’s pay” and for that company to “own that scan of their image, their likeness, and to be able to use it for the rest of eternity in any project they want with no consent and no compensation.”

“It literally was all of our worst fears confirmed when we heard that,” actress Jamie Miller tells Rolling Stone. “It’s kneecapping people from the start.”

Just imagine if the studios win on this!! Solidarity with the unions!

Picture it.. people like Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, extras in their early career, would have been sold off after just one appearance. NO other extras for them. The studio would own their face and likeness. No chances for more movies. No chances to go to another studio. Just the same old face.. same old story. All without advancement at all.

There are tons of issues at stake in this contract and strike. But the AI thing? that seems big.
