    Long time producer of Ground Zero with Clyde lewis, Ron Patton, has died

    Some very sad news is coming from the Ground Zero family.

    Rumors of the passing of longtime Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis Executive Producer Ron Patton began circulating across social media today. Sadly, Ground Zero has now officially confirmed that Patton passed away peacefully following a short battle with cancer.

    For those of us who have listened to Ground Zero over the years, Ron Patton may have primarily been known as the man behind the scenes alongside Clyde Lewis. But his career and his importance to independent media went much further.

    Patton spent more than three decades working in independent media as a publisher, writer, researcher, editor and producer. Among his many projects, he published Endure to the End, created MKzine, produced ConspiraZine Radio, and became publisher of Paranoia Magazine.

    But perhaps his most notable and lasting role was as Executive Producer of Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis.

    And according to Ground Zero’s remembrance of him, Ron wasn’t simply Clyde’s producer or colleague.

    He was also Clyde Lewis’s best friend.

    Their friendship became intertwined with the history of Ground Zero itself. There were times when the program’s future was uncertain and walking away might have been the easier option. Ron was apparently one of the people who refused to let that happen. He continued developing ideas, searching for ways to keep the program alive and, perhaps most importantly, continued believing in Clyde and what Ground Zero meant to its listeners.

    Many listeners probably never realized just how much of the program they heard night after night had Ron Patton’s fingerprints on it.

    The news is especially heartbreaking considering everything the Ground Zero family has already been enduring. Clyde Lewis has been dealing with his own serious health struggles and continues attempting to recover. Now, in the midst of that battle, he has lost not only his longtime Executive Producer but one of his closest friends.

    Ron had also been fighting his own serious health problems. For months, supporters rallied around him and his family, including through a GoFundMe established to help with his medical expenses. More recently, his family announced that he had entered hospice care.

    There are people behind every long-running radio program whose voices we may rarely hear and whose faces we may not immediately recognize, but without them the program simply wouldn’t be what it is.

    Our thoughts are with Ron Patton’s family, Clyde Lewis, the entire Ground Zero team and everyone who knew and loved him.

    May Ron Patton rest in peace, and may his family and friends find comfort in knowing that the work he spent decades creating will continue to be heard and remembered.

    Clyde Lewis Gives Emotional Health Update, and Wants to Return to Ground Zero

    There has been another update from longtime Ground Zero host Clyde Lewis, and we’re just going to keep it honest: this one was a little difficult to watch.

    Lewis appeared in a new video discussing his ongoing medical problems, upcoming screening connected to his continued bladder and renal issues, and perhaps most importantly to longtime listeners, the future of Ground Zero. He also opened the video by talking about executive producer Ron Patton, who has been dealing with medical problems of his own and has a GoFundMe to help with those mounting issues.

    Clyde actually looks better physically than he did in some of the earlier videos released during this ordeal. That’s the good news. But it’s also obvious that this has taken a tremendous toll on him.

    Lewis remains under medical care and has continued to be unable to regularly host the program. Over the past several months, Ground Zero has relied on fill-in hosts along with a steady stream of historical programs from the show’s enormous archive. Additionally, Clyde has appeared as a guest on other shows hosted by John B. Wells and Richard Syrett..

    For listeners accustomed to hearing Clyde behind the microphone night after night, his absence has become impossible not to notice.

    And apparently Clyde notices it too.

    Several times during the update, Lewis appeared to have tears in his eyes while talking about how badly he wants to return to full-time broadcasting. He misses his listeners. Judging by the comments and concern surrounding him for months now, they certainly miss him too.

    There was frustration in the video as well.

    Lewis spoke critically about the healthcare system and what he sees as an agonizingly slow process of getting tests, procedures and answers. He talked about people becoming sicker—or sometimes dying—while navigating a system that seemingly keeps making them wait.

    For someone who has already beaten cancer and dealt with significant health problems before, Lewis also seemed genuinely perplexed by just how badly this latest series of illnesses has knocked him down. He has fought through serious health scares before. This time has been different.

    He also addressed something that has apparently generated some criticism: the Ground Zero Plus paywall.

    Lewis reminded listeners that he spent more than 30 years broadcasting without requiring people to pay a subscription fee to hear him. But independent broadcasting costs money, and circumstances eventually made the subscription model necessary. Those financial realities become even more difficult when the person at the center of the entire operation suddenly can’t work.

    Ground Zero has occupied an interesting place in late-night radio for decades. In many ways, it carries the spirit of what Art Bell once created: those strange nighttime hours when conversations about UFOs, conspiracies, ghosts, government secrets, strange science and things lurking somewhere beyond our understanding somehow sound better coming through a radio speaker in the dark.

    Clyde Lewis became one of the most recognizable modern voices in that world.

    That’s what makes this video particularly sad.

    The person appearing on the screen isn’t simply a radio host announcing when he’ll be back to work. He looks like someone trying to process what has happened to his life. At times he seems frustrated. At times emotional. At times determined. And occasionally all three at once.

    That’s probably how any of us would react.

    The difference is that most of us wouldn’t have thousands of people watching while we did it.

    Being a public figure brings with it a strange expectation that the show must always go on. People want Clyde back behind the microphone. Some apparently demand answers about when he’s coming back. But wanting someone to return and that person physically being capable of returning are two very different things.

    Lewis has been hospitalized, has spent significant time in a care facility, and has been unable to independently return to the life and broadcasting schedule he maintained for decades. Earlier updates described kidney failure requiring dialysis and extensive physical therapy, followed by months of rehabilitation and continued monitoring.

    This isn’t somebody taking an extended vacation from radio.

    He’s sick.

    And watching this latest update, one thing becomes pretty apparent: Clyde Lewis seems to miss Ground Zero every bit as much as Ground Zero listeners miss Clyde Lewis.

    Maybe that’s the most hopeful thing in the entire video.

    The desire is still there.

    The voice is still there.

    And Clyde apparently still believes there is a microphone somewhere in his future.

    Let’s hope he’s right.

    Here’s hoping for continued recovery for both Clyde Lewis and Ron Patton, some good news from the upcoming medical testing, a renewed sense of health and independence for Clyde—and eventually, when his body allows it, another strange night with the lights turned down and Clyde Lewis behind the microphone again.

    Fans continue living in a world without Clyde Lewis

    An update was recently shared regarding Clyde Lewis, and while there are some encouraging signs, the overall situation remains uncertain. He is still in a nursing facility with no confirmed timeline for release. On the positive side, he’s making progress in physical therapy—losing weight, rebuilding strength, and gradually improving his stamina.


    There are still a number of medical hurdles ahead. He’ll need significant dental work in the coming months, and his kidney function continues to be monitored closely. He is still using a catheter, with doctors and a urologist evaluating when it can safely be removed. Whenever he is cleared to leave, plans are already in place for him to move into a better living situation.

    Terrestrial radio has dropped Ground Zero

    Over the past few months, Clyde Lewis and Ground Zero have been navigating a difficult stretch.

    While the guest hosts who’ve stepped in deserve real credit for keeping the show alive—and they truly should be applauded—the reality is that many longtime listeners tune in for Clyde. Without him behind the mic night after night, some of the fan base has understandably grown discouraged.


    Clyde has been dealing with serious health issues and has chosen to remain mostly private about them.

    What is known is that he’s been hospitalized, is currently receiving treatment in a nursing facility, and is expected to be released around mid-February. It also appears he’s been navigating major personal changes during this time, which only adds to the weight of everything happening.


    Today’s update adds another layer of concern. Ground Zero will no longer be broadcast on syndicated terrestrial radio after the end of this month. According to the announcement, the show received no advertising revenue from radio over the past four years while still covering studio and production costs. Clyde’s extended absence also led to the loss of several affiliates. Going forward, the show will continue online through GroundZeroPlus.com, with a free 24/7 stream and a paid membership offering access to archives, documents, videos, webinars, and the chatroom. Terrestrial radio listeners without internet access are being encouraged to switch to internet radios or the Paranormal Radio app.


    None of this means Ground Zero is over. Clyde has bounced back before, and he may very well do so again. But there’s no question the future of the show will depend heavily on listener support, patience, and loyalty during this transition.

    If the voice that guided people through late nights for decades is going to return stronger, he’s going to need his audience now more than ever.

    Paranormal radio talk show sensation Clyde Lewis is closing out 2025 on a very difficult note. While there has been some cautious hope that 2026 might bring improvement, it’s becoming clear that things are far more trying than many expected following his recent health issues.


    Clyde’s longtime producer Ron shared an update on social media that paints a sobering picture of where things currently stand:

    Clyde is still recovering from several medical/health issues and really needs your continued support and prayers. We were hoping he would be back on Ground Zero by now, but unfortunately, that hasn’t happened.

    We did purchase him a therapeutic recliner from the GoFundMe money, along with other necessities. Clyde and his wife are separating, so he’ll need to find an apartment to move into. If there is anyone in the Portland, OR area who has a connection with rentals, please email me at groundzeroron@gmail.com.


    As the New Year approaches, many drastic changes are happening with Clyde, so please help in whatever way you can.

    For longtime listeners, this update is especially hard to read. Clyde has been a constant voice in late-night radio for years — questioning reality, challenging narratives, and giving people a place to explore the strange and unexplained.     Christmas just isn’t the same without Clyde Lewis talking about Krampus and the other strange and paranormal events that so often seem to grace the holiday season.


    For those who’ve been following along, Clyde has been dealing with a series of medical issues, including reported kidney problems, serious enough that he’s been off the air for several weeks. During that time, guest hosts have been filling in on Ground Zero.


    Tonight, Jeremy Scott and Dave Paull, both longtime colleagues of Clyde and veterans of the radio world, will be talking with him on the air. The show is being heavily promoted, and as “Clyde the Glide” rests at home and continues occasional physical therapy, callers are encouraged to phone in, share how they discovered the show, and talk about how Clyde has impacted their lives while he works toward regaining his health.


    It sounds like a true must-listen, and it’ll be great to hear his voice on the air again.

    If you need a reminder of just how independent from corporate media Clyde Lewis really is, here it is: Ground Zero has been off the air for several days because its host is in the middle of a serious medical crisis. As a result the host is asking fans to help him.

    Producer and longtime friend of the show, Ron Patton, has opened a GoFundMe to basically help Clyde pay for life right now .. bills, living expenses, and everything that comes with a health emergency. Clyde isn’t plugged into some big cushy network money machine. He’s not owned by Premiere Radio or any other conglomerate. Ground Zero is run out of his studio in Portland, where he beams paranormal and parapolitical talk across the airwaves night after night. That’s the definition of independent.

    Right now, though, that independence comes with a price. Clyde’s ongoing kidney issues have put him in the hospital. We talked the other day about the video he posted for fans from his hospital bed .. it was emotional, raw, and you could tell he was genuinely scared about what’s happening to his body. It honestly sounded like he may have come very close to meeting the “big bug zapper in the sky” he’s joked about over the years.

    If you’re a fan, this might be the moment to kick in a couple bucks if you can.. everyone is strapped for cash. But if Ground Zero has ever kept you company on a late night, made you think, made you mad, made you laugh, or just made your shift go faster over the decades, this is one of those times where even a small donation can help Clyde and his staff keep their heads above water.

    I’m Ron Patton, executive producer of Ground Zero. Clyde Lewis recently encountered a medical emergency due to kidney failure. He’s been in the hospital for a week and is on dialysis, along with getting physical therapy for his legs (lymphedema).

    The good news is that his health is gradually improving, and the hope is that he’ll be back to host the show soon.

    Thank you very much for your support through prayers and good thoughts. Although Clyde does have medical insurance, there are miscellaneous bills associated with his medical issue. Our primary income source is subscriptions to Ground Zero Plus, but unfortunately, it has stagnated due to Clyde’s illness. Furthermore, our advertising revenue is on hold until he’s back broadcasting. We do not receive any money from our radio syndication.

    Clyde Lewis updates his fans

    Tonight, longtime paranormal radio host and talk-show giant Clyde Lewis gave his fans an update on social media after what sounds like an absolutely terrifying week. Clyde revealed that he developed kidney failure, and he’s been going through a whole lineup of medical procedures and treatments — including dialysis — just to stabilize things.

    He said that today was the first day he actually felt well, at least compared to the previous ones. And honestly, watching him talk, you could see it in his face. He looked shaken. Scared. Vulnerable. But really… wouldn’t any of us be?

    Anyone who has ever gone through a kidney crisis, or liver or kidney failure of any form, knows exactly what Clyde meant when he described it as a “dark feeling.” It’s not just physical. It hits emotionally, mentally, spiritually — all at once. It takes a toll most people can’t understand unless they’ve lived it.

    Despite everything, Clyde is still Clyde. He even managed to sneak in a joke that his ex-wife called him, and that he’s been getting visited and checked on by a number of people. That humor — that spark — is what fans love about him.

    And speaking of fans, people everywhere are just grateful that he’s finally on the other side of whatever the worst part of this ordeal was. We miss him. We want him back behind the mic. But his health comes first — it’s the most important thing.

    So until he’s strong enough to return, all we can do is keep him in our thoughts, send good energy, and keep him in our prayers.

    Get well soon, Clyde. The airwaves aren’t the same without you.

    For weeks now, radio host Clyde Lewis has been missing in action.. until now: The radio legend is set to return in just days.

    Ground Zero released a distressing message in June that Lewis was going to be out of commission and away from his fan base for several weeks. Timing could not have been worse: It happened just as the UAP hearings took center stage mid-summer.

    In early June, executive producer Ron Patton posted this on the Ground Zero Facebook page:

    Hello, Ground Zero fans! While Clyde is away until mid-August, I want to take the time and thank you all for your love and support toward the King of the Paranormal. He definitely covets your prayers and thoughts.

    Although we are syndicated (we are on about 100 stations) Ground Zero has no ad revenue coming in, thus, we rely on Aftermath subscriptions to keep us afloat. Since Clyde is out of commission for 30 days while seeking intensive treatment at a weight management facility, we’d very much appreciate your financial support.
