THE MIDNIGHT HOUR (AND AFTERSHOW) COMETH

As Art Bell winds down his last week off before starting MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT on July 20, big news is breaking involving his return: Home of Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis is adding Bell’s program to the lineup. KXL in Portland Oregon, a massive station with wide coverage over the Northwest, will air 10pm to 1am immediately after Lewis’ program.

    MORE..

In the press release from Alpha Media,  Scott Mahalick, executive VP of programming, said, “We’re thrilled to be amping up our paranormal broadcast activity with the addition of Art Bell following Clyde Lewis’ Ground Zero. It’s a home run for Alpha Media to have the two biggest talents anchored on FM NEWS 101 KXL.”

Recent days has seen other Bell related tidbits popping up around the internet.Steve Warner recently interviewed famed Coast guest Richard C. Hoagland about the ‘soap opera’ that has become Coast to Coast. Hoagland won an old bet to host one night of Coast, and he asked George Noory to allow him to broadcast today during the amazing NASA Pluto flyby. Though Noory originally agreed, the planned suddenly changed with Coast producers telling Hoagland he can have a night on July 20–the same night that Bell begins his show. Instead, the tables were turned with the OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT being announced and Hoagland getting the chance to do his own program after MIDNIGHT. Coast effectively banned him from future appearances on that show.

As Bell gets prepped for his radio gig to restart, he is also did a REDDIT AMA at 630 July 14.

The countdown clock gets closer to midnight..
And the big stations are now lining up.

I have been following JOHN B WELLS for some time .. For those who don’t know who he is, he was once the weekend host of Coast to Coast AM. He left the program to do his own show, the CARAVAN TO MIDNIGHT–or he was forced out by George Noory and company at Coast–and now he has a pay-per-listen business and broadcasts daily. Ironically, his ‘Midnight’ show airs during the daytime hours.

He also hosts conspiracy topics. Often I agree with him.  Often I don’t. But I have always been entertained by his style, his voice, and his knowledge and seemingly amazing memory of interesting tidbits of music, UFOlogy, and conspiracy theory.

In this video linked here, he unloads quite a bit on Alex Jones, George Noory, and Michael Savage.. It was quite extraordinary to hear some of the statements from Wells. He wants nothing to do with Alex Jones’ INFOWARS, and even alleges that the site simply regurgitates the stories of others and credits themselves with breaking news. He also goes in depth on his criticism of “Dr Savage” and Savages’ tendancy to brag about his wealth on his program.. He also gives Noory, the current COAST host, some zingers about the new ‘Paranormal Date website Noory has been promoting..

Wells was a divisive host to a degree when he was on Coast to Coast AM. However, his programs rated higher than the weekly shows hosted by Noory and often had more listeners.
Perhaps that’s why it’s no surprise that Noory and Danheiser may have wanted Wells to be off the air..
Even Art Bell has commented on the Wells’ situation in the past.

But to hear Wells put into words some of the feelings he has evolved into having is fascinating.. Amazing.. Riveting. And regardless of what some may say about his over indulgence on Sandy Hook or other theories, he is interesting. And that is the very thing that Coast to Coast AM currently lack: Being interesting.

The scary side of Art Bell revealed in new fan trailer

The message board BELLGAB has been alive and well with creativity for years, but lately a few users have also been the source of some amazing trailers for the upcoming MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT on July 20th.. And put this trailer from the BellGab user JAZMUNDA from the land down under:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q-DsXUMK-U&feature=youtu.be

The scenes are frightening, stock footage prepped to scare.. the Bell clips which accompany it are equally unnerving, and a reminder of what is to come for those who will tune in on July on their smartphone, shortwave radio, or AM station choosing to broadcast the show..

  • RADIO STEALS THE INTERNET STAR: THE GROWING ART BELL STATION LIST

RADIO STEALS THE INTERNET STAR: THE GROWING ART BELL STATION LIST

It will be Christmas in July for Art Bell fans when he begins his broadcast next month of MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT..

Last night, Art Bell already tested equipment and it was a ‘go.’
Keith Rowland told the HORROR REPORT that lines were lit up fast for the full duration of the Sunday night Skype and ‘Callart’ phone line test. Bell later went on to make his Facebook page more public, allowing users who aren’t one of his capped 5000 ‘friends’ to comment on his posts and links..

The ball is moving towards a July 20th game.
Along with it: Radio stations that are more traditional and terrestrial than the online plans.

And now ARTBELL.COM hosts a page that gives information on the full affiliates who are broadcasting MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT.

    The list promises to grow.
Despite Bell’s best intentions to be streaming only with the help of Apps, iPhones, Androids, and TuneIn, he’s going to be beamed the old fashioned way as well..

And even Art Bell himself seems to be a fan of the terrestrial way. Tonight on Facebook he wrote,

“If you have a local station you wish to carry it the best bet is to give the Manager or Program Director a call and ask..”

If you build it, they will come.
If you broadcast, they will carry..

  • TERRESTRIAL RADIO REVENGE AS THE CLOCK TICKS CLOSER TO MIDNIGHT

TERRESTRIAL RADIO REVENGE AS THE CLOCK TICKS CLOSER TO MIDNIGHT

Art Bell’s announced that yet another station was going to be picking up his program, MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT, when it starts in July..

Jackson Mississippi will now hear Bell when he begins broadcasting on a program originally geared for an online only crowd..

While Bell has not enthusiastically embraced the radio concept at first, it appears he is becoming a bit more jubilant as stations are announced.  He wrote this post on Facebook,

We just picked up another station in Jackson, MS. This is getting rapidly out of control, so be aware.
Starting July 20th the show will begin Broadcasting on the Internet with 48kbps HEAAC Stereo. Shortly there will be a FAQ for Broadcasters who wish to carry the show Mon-Fri 9PM- 12AM. PT.

Meanwhile Keith Rowland posted a summation on ARTBELL.COM to instruct terrestrial radio stations on how to contact the right persons to get the program affiliated with their schedule.. Stringent rules are being placed on whoever wants in. Rowland writes, in full, the demands:

    1. You must carry the entire 3 hour show. From the top through 2 hours and 58 minutes. Keep in mind we are up to 30-seconds delayed from real-time, our servers have built-in buffers and we also add an additional 7-second delay for editing purposes.

    2. No replay or archiving of our shows is allowed. We need to protect our membership subscription model.

    3. You must have your own blanket licensing for commercial music in your country. We cannot allow relay streaming of our show, as that will incur additional music licensing cost. You won’t be covered by our license.

    4. You are allowed (but not required) to cover our feed with two 2-minute breaks each at the :58 and 1:58 breaks (end of the first and second hours). So it’s 4 minutes of your local ads over ours. Of course at 2:58 mark the show is over. Again adjust for streaming server buffer delays. There will be adequate bumper music into and out of the break for you to adjust your automation timings.

    5. Otherwise you must carry all our other breaks, which will be floating anyway. So for automation purposes, you can insert your ads at those two fixed times/hard breaks. Your commercials should be appropriate for our programming.

    6. We will try to enforce market exclusivity on a first come, first serve basis. We would of course favor larger stations.

    7. You must receive our program feed from our hi-quality AAC streaming server (not MP3). You should use a dedicated computer (with nothing else running including background tasks like Windows update) using an appropriate player that receives AAC or a hardware device like the CC-Wifi radio, hardwired into your network. Do not use Wifi (but you knew that).

Even with the stringent rules being placed on the AM crowd, many appear to be interested. The return of Art Bell will be undoubtedly creating an excitement level beyond any other host in recent memory. The advertising a station may be able to sell in order to meet the rules announced is key. And so far we are aware of stations now getting into the act—-along with shortwave. And the online world..all where this began.

Midnight is coming.. The clock ticks on.

Is George Noory beginning to feel the pressure..?

  • GET THE CCRANES READY: ARTBELL.COM RELEASES AN FAQ ON HOST’S RETURN

GET THE CCRANES READY: ARTBELL.COM RELEASES AN FAQ ON HOST’S RETURN

THE MODERN STUDIO. SIMPLE IS IN

An excited Art Bell posted a link on his Facebook page to ArtBell.com tonight. The site announces a set of FAQs in relation to the MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT program set to appear this summer..

You can read the full text of what Keith Rowland posted here.

A couple of points worth repeating as well.. including this: Art Bell will most likely not be coming back in any form to terrestrial radio, according to the FAQ sheet. The program is made to work online–less commercials and more free flowing. Something that will not translate into the structured world of corporate stations..

According to Rowland, the basics to know:

The show is now called “Midnight in the Desert” and will broadcast LIVE from 9pm to Midnight Pacific, Midnight to 3am Eastern for FREE, Monday thru Friday.
You can listen via this website, or use an app on your smartphone or tablet. Currently you can listen via the TuneIn app. Install TuneIn from your App store and search for Dark Matter Radio and you’ll be listening to the current schedule of shows.
On-demand archives will be available under a subscription membership service, soon to be announced.

The site advertises both a CC-WIFI or CC-WIFI2 radio from C Crane as the best means of hearing Bell, besides of course streaming directly from ArtBell.com.
Also, Bell can boast that he is merging the 21st century with amazing days of old: He will also be broadcasting MIDNIGHT on SHORTWAVE radio station 5,085 khz.  Rowland writes,

We have made a deal with a shortwave station out of Tennessee, WTWW on 5,085 khz, a good frequency to be heard at that time of night. They will carry just the LIVE portion of the show.

    There will by SKYPE calls..
There will be a message board–two actually, one not moderated at all..
And there will be a message service to talk to Art during the show.

    The excitement is building..
This seems very different from the SIRIUS radio setup. This time, Art Bell seems to be doing it not to prove a point, not to recreate magic, but to create brand new magic and be himself.

Perhaps the best thing about SIRIUS was the mistake it all was.. the backroom deals between NOORY and Company.. the corporate ignorance of Bell’s simple requests.. And a two year respite non compete for Bell and Rowland to truly consider what approach they want.

    And fans love it.
C CRANE may have their busiest year in some time.
I for one will be making a call very soon..

  • “We are about ready to go to war”

“We are about ready to go to war”

Richard Sryett was hosting Coast to Coast AM while George Noory attended an event in San Francisco last night. Though his interview with Marie Jones on mind control and cults may have been worthy, the real show was taking place in a virtual world. George Noory posted on Bellgab after months of offline time..

Noory’s return seemingly stemmed from Art Bell’s message on Facebook critical of Noory’s use of the term ‘wanna take a ride,’ a catch line long associated with the Coast Bell incarnation voiced by Ross Mitchell since the 1990s. Noory addressed the charge of theft, saying, “sorry but Ive been using it since my days in St.louis and picked it up on Coast in 2001 when I started filling in for Art. We both got it from the movie Contact. Ross even had liners for us. Nothing sinister here folks.”

Users pounded quickly. But it was Steve Warner, the BELLGAB user known as BATEMAN, who seemed to get the ‘goatsie’ the most.

Warner began his own radio program in 2013 called DARK CITY, and was well known for pranking gags of George Noory during live call in shows on Coast to Coast AM. At that time, Warner said he was approached by Noory about appearing on Coast.  During Noory’s latest postings, Bateman continued pressing Noory about why he sent Warner a blank email message on April 23. Noory repeatedly denied sending the message, eventually admitting the possibility of something being sent, and posted “I was going to send you one (personal) a few days ago but never got around to it…..might have sent it blank during a commercial break? Steve I get 1000 emails during the shows and my staff is clicking saving etc for me until I read them.”

Warner spoke to the HORROR REPORT hours ago about this private message. He said, “I think he actually sent it because he heard me on a podcast poking fun at him and this was his way of saying ‘I’m watching you’ with plausible deniability. Whatever the reason, it’s funny he sent it at 3:30 in the morning when he’s supposed to be doing his show.”

Speaking more about his recent relationship with Coast, Warner again: “He started off telling me he wanted to do a ‘spooky, yet funny’ segment on Friday nights called ‘Here’s Bateman’, I shit you not. Then he put out feelers after John B. Wells got the boot on weekends.”  That was 2013 during Bell’s SIRIUS XM stint.

Warner continued, “Frankly, I think the Coast brand is toxic at this point, and I don’t need them or their 600 stations to be successful at this. We live in a vastly different media landscape than we did just a few years ago.”

A vastly different world indeed. One where two late night radio hosts are at war on a message board.
    And speaking of war..
Noory’s other comment raised the ire of posters. He said,

I am the KING of late night radio. Long live the new KING!!! I deserve the crown.
This is a riot your upset over a king’s crown lol..we are about ready to go to war and YOURE concerned about my avatar

The avatar in reference is a koala bear. Previously when Bell quit his SIRIUS job, Noory used a symbolic crown.  Noory went on to post last night, “Redacted would you like me to have a crown of thorns   that was for a king too?.”

While it is unclear what ‘war’ may have been referred to—so many exist in the world after all— there is evidence that Premiere Radio and the MIDNIGHT camps are beginning to prepare for a corporate battle of wits and skills.

With ‘war’ in offing, Art Bell wrote a late to the game response to the night of Noory postings.

    In full,

I see I am late to the party, spent the evening with my Child Bride, great night.

Perhaps I have it wrong so if I do please correct me. Did Dave say we were going to War? Did he say something about wearing a Crown of Thorns?

Did he say he was using Wanna Take a Ride in St Louis? Really? Dave I can get you a hell of a special buy now price on the Arch.

I hope Dave was drinking heavily, otherwise I can not understand what would make him say those things, just wait till he wakes tomorrow Afternoon and reads what he wrote!

I told you, you can predict this guy like a clock, as soon as he knows I am coming back it begins and it will keep ramping up as we near July. Dave if you were running for office as a sitting President any advisor worth a crap would tell you to shut the hell up and stop helping the other side.

As most of you know I had made a deal not to strike first and I want it noted here that I did not, I simply reacted to recordings of Dave mumbling wanna take a ride and the clock struck midnight and Dave arrived right on time trying to rewrite History.

    Time for bed, night all.

    Art

The ‘war’ is on.. battle stations are armed. Words are slinging and flinging in HTML, FTPed, and instant..
The radio world is facing the internet world. That, perhaps, is the war..

Keith Rowland has acknowledged to the HORROR REPORT that Art Bell, in his July 2015 return to live internet radio, may not be able to beat the juggernauts of Limbaugh and Hannity, but the BELL camp is hoping to transform the landscape. However, as evidenced by the BELLGAB postings, there will be a number of virtual missiles launched prior to the summer skirmish.

The HORROR REPORT has reached out to Coast to Coast AM, and George Noory for comment.
At the time of this posting, there has not been a response..
The story will be updated if contact is successful.
