  • ART BELL IN TALKS WITH SIRIUS RADIO TO BECOME ‘INDEPENDENT BROADCASTER’

ART BELL IN TALKS WITH SIRIUS RADIO TO BECOME ‘INDEPENDENT BROADCASTER’

Art Bell, who after just six weeks of DARK MATTER, abruptly quit, announced late night that he is in talks with Sirius XM to once again return to the airwaves..

According to Bell’s post on the (WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY) famed BELLGAB.COM, the talk show host desires to become an ‘independent broadcaster’ with Sirius as the vehicle.

This is Bell’s statement in full regarding the latest developments:

I almost hate to see this thread wind down, in life you almost never get to see such unmitigated hateaccross your screen. Long ago because of fast blast I learned to ignore it. When you do a show and have aguest people think they hate you will see “dump this ass hole and go to open lines” and a lot more just like it and much worse, in the end you have to do what you think is right and act on it. For the most partby the end of the show you are getting messages like”best show I’ve ever heard”. Once in a while youdo have to “dump the asshole” but if you follow the advice of a mob it almost always goes wrong.
This board is a lot like that. decisions that we are forced to make or make because we think they are the right thing to do are just that, and if they turn out well your a genius, if not your dead to the World or at leastsome posters on this board, but it is always fun to watch.
We are currently in talks with Sirius/XM which really knows how to deliver to vehicals very well. The idea is tobecome Independent Broadcasters which means no pay from Sirius while still keeping it exclusivly Sirius/XM inthe Broadcast World, however we would then be free to stream free at artbell.com. Another words the best ofboth Worlds. In the long run I think it would benefit all including Sirius/XM. I think this will work but if not we willstream the show at the first opportunity, either way it will happen if I have to finance it myself, I will.
I know all this seemed very sudden to most of you but there was much going on behind the scenes you do notknow about and because it was said to me in confidence I am not free to discuss publicly, however I feel this isthe right decision. If I am wrong I am sure I will be dead to the World and some who post here.
I want the show to work at least as much as all of you but I have been at this for a while and I know what it takes to be viable and when I say that I mean not just as a niche type show, viable Worldwide. I understand that some of you are sooooo angry that you will not listen to the free steam and I will just have to find a way to live with that.
                                                                                                                                 Rage on,
                                                                                                                                 Art

So the development twist and turn of Art Bell and his DARK MATTER seems to be taking yet another unexpected turn..

This story has changed several times over the past 72 hours, as noted on the HORROR REPORT and other websites that are covering the matter.

The amazing part of Art Bell’s venture is that it would be a complete overhaul to Sirius XM’s current business model. A free stream, and a host not being paid, but yet something with Sirius technology backing up the entire affair, is a cutting edge take on satellite radio.

Bell promises nothing, but simply says negotiations are happening.

Throughout the night tonight, ARTBELL.COM webmaster Keith Rowland has been testing a stream to see if users were able to get the audio to work–it seems to have been favorable during the test period.. Rowland appears to be using an ICECAST server, and the stats are available here on peak listening.

It’s worth noting that several people who tried quitting Sirius were given a free extra month, ‘just in case’ there were changes with DARK MATTER–and maybe those changes are now becoming known.

The HORROR REPORT will attempt to cover all the information concerning this story..

    Stay tuned.

  • BLOCK-BUSTED

    BLOCK-BUSTED

Blockbuster is going to be a faded memory of a generation past.. very soon.
This coming January, the store plans on closing its remaining 300 retail operations still existent. And it doesn’t stop there..

The video rental company that will soon be gone also said that by mid-December, its mail-in program will also end.
Watch em while you got em?
    Be kind and rewind?

A few years ago, HOLLYWOOD VIDEO was met with the same fate..
Blockbuster attempted to reinvent itself and fashion a store more suitable for the 21st century–less personnel costs, less actual locations, and more rental kiosks and mailings..
    It failed.

This is what USA TODAY reports in its latest dispatches on the end of Blockbuster:

Dish said it will retain licensing rights to the Blockbuster brand and its vast video library.
Dish said it will focus on expanding its Blockbuster @Home business, a streaming service available to Dish pay-TV customers. Blockbuster On Demand, the company’s streaming service for the general public, will also continue to operate.
Dish Network bought Blockbuster in April, 2011 in an auction for $320 million as Blockbuster was emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Dish’s plan at the time was to leverage its more than 1,700 store locations to offer in-store rentals that would complement Dish’s other video offerings. “Cross-marketing and service-extension opportunities” – possibly in-store promotions for Dish’s packages – were also mentioned by Dish at the time of the acquisition.

    So that’s that.
    The end of an era.

Sure, streaming is king right now and those one day kiosks aren’t doing so bad.. But one day, someone will wonder, ‘whatever happened to the video rental store?’ No more late night pajama-clad car rides to buy the latest horror movie.. no more asking a worker ‘how was this movie?’ …no more “can I help you find a film.” It’s all on you. You’re the consumer. Now get to work.

    Video killed the radio star.
And time killed the video store.

    Goodbye Blockbuster.
    We will miss you.

Now where will Elaine find her movies!?

  • The strongest solar flare of the year fired off the sun on Tuesday

The strongest solar flare of the year fired off the sun on Tuesday

It was an X3.3 class solar flare.. it may not be strong enough to eliminate the modern world we have come to love, but it was certainly a strong shot from the sun..

The 11-year solar cycle appears to be heating up..
Spaceweather.com reported that the solar event actually created a rare “magnetic crochet” and extreme ultraviolet flash. Spaceweather explains that the intense flare created an immediate ionization of Earth’s upper atmosphere leading to the magnetic crochet–and that only happens when a flare is in progress…

Video of the flare is here:

SPACEWEATHER.COM and SOLARHAM.NET are both excellent sources when the sun is active–and even when it’s not..

  • ART BELL RESPONDS (AGAIN)

    ART BELL RESPONDS (AGAIN)

Hours after George Noory called into GABCAST, Art Bell once against has taken to the pages of BELLGAB to further explain his position on his departure from DARK MATTER.

    A quote,

My goodness I was watching a show on the DVR with my child Bride and come back to this?  Of course I am not going to commit sewerpipe, I said all that tounge in cheek and I did not say anything that was not said here and over and over, spread out over 106 pages or so. My skin as I age is indeed getting thinner but my public skin has never been thicker. I just thought you would like to see how the same words used here would sound coming from me. I have not changed my mind about free streaming and intend to make it a reality one way or the other. I have asked Sirius to allow me to act as a Private Broadcaster, then as other shows do, I could stay on Sirius and would be free to stream all I want.
If they go for that all will be well, It would mean no pay from Sirius but I am good with that, I do not need the money. If Sirius says no, then I will, at the first opportunity stream from artbell.com.

Again, I am sorry that some people invested in a radio or a stream and if a deal is not reached will have lost out. You do not know what
was going on behind the scenes for those six Weeks and if you did I think you might understand, or considering the makeup of some of this
group perhaps not, but I was trying to act in the interest of the listener, not myself.

I still love this board. There is something about the core group that is somewhat loveable and I still feel that way, I do know trolls when I see them, and I can guess where they slime in from. I am toying with the idea of new hours for the show….

There is only one good way to proceed and that is with a better product. That is what I intend to do.
                                                                                                                                                      Art

Yes, it has come to this.

GEORGE NOORY TALKS PUBLICLY ABOUT ART BELL’S DEPARTURE

As if the DARK MATTER exit could not get weirder…

Over the past 48 hours since the news of Art Bell’s sudden departure from DARK MATTER was sinking in, fans turned on Bell and he took to the famed pages of BELLGAB.COM to defend himself…

And suddenly, George Noory entered the fray..

During a podcast hosted by BELLGAB’s founder Michael Vandeven on UFOSHIP.COM, the one and only George Noory. Noory called into the show, surprising the hosts, and spoke direct about Art Bell. He said Bell jumped the gun by quitting Sirius XM so fast.. He also commented on his appreciation for the creator of Coast to Coast AM, denied poaching guests from DARK MATTER, and told a story of how he tried to assist with Airyn Bell’s VISA issues several years ago.

  • Art Bell responds to anger over DARK MATTER exit

Art Bell responds to anger over DARK MATTER exit

He took to the now famed pages of BELLGAB to explain–and apologize–for his rapid exit from Sirius XM radio..

    The full text here:

Hi there, I am now on the site, I tried Yesterday but it would not take my PW, I tried to change it because I thought I might
not have remembered it correctly. Today it is taking my original PW just fine.

If it will help, I am sorry. I know many of you are angry in your usual style which I expected but there is nothing new I can say
that will make any of you feel any better. It is as I have said, I had hundreds of emails from people who tried the 30 day free
trial and were getting dropped left and right, Sirius was aware of the problem.(many of you know because you tried to
help with the error reporting) I am sure some dropped because they did not like my show or just did not have the money, but
by far most dropped because of the drops. This was a problem that we talked to them virtually every day about and learned that
it would be a long term fix.

As I mentioned in my emails Yesterday the net effect was that my base was gone, those of you who listened to the show must
have noticed, I sure did, so I asked Sirius for a Year of free streaming or until they could fix the problem, they did offer a second
free 30 day trial but what point is there in that if people would have the same experience? Anything beyond that, they were unwilling
to do. It just did not make any sense to me that pirates were posting programs the next day and live streams were popping up all
over the place that did not even carry our commercials without anybody doing anything about it, just crazy. Why not stream until
the problem was fixed with our commercials? It was a widespread problem including here on Bell Gab, right? My thinking was and
still is that it would have drawn many more into the program, eventually becomming full subs.

I am still open to patching this up, but not without some tip of the hat to those that left because of the streaming problem, we even offered
to pay for the streaming ourselves until it could be fixed. Anyway I am here so feel free to continue to cut me up and you can be
sure I am absorbing your anger.

    Art

Again I am truly sorry to those who got caught in this and lost any money because you bought a radio or tried the NET.

What followed that post late this afternoon was a long back and forth between BELLGAB posters and Bell himself. Several users were expressing anger, if not rage, at Bell’s sudden departure. Art Bell took time to respond to several issues, saying he would return if the argument over streaming issues is worked out between his camp and Sirius XM. Also, Bell alluded to another non compete clause, which in effect would keep him off any form of radio for the foreseeable future–a strange place for him to be since he was so happy to have emerged from the long Premiere clause he was stuck with after quitting Coast to Coast AM.

Calls to Sirius XM management have gone unreturned. However, contact made to the customer service line has revealed that the operators have been told to say that Bell decided to pull the plug on DARK MATTER, and that the satellite company wishes him ‘luck’ in the future. At least a few users said when they attempted to cancel, they were lured into another month of ‘free’ membership just in case DARK MATTER reinvents itself and returns.  But with Sirius saying Bell has decided to cancel the show himself, it would appear that both sides have found their talking point.

And while the world is still confused by this entire event, the always laughable “Hitler reacts” video has already been posted..

  • Do you believe in SIGNS?

    Do you believe in SIGNS?

Two years to the day my mother in law died, my wife captured a photograph of ducks.. Just ducks, or something more?

GRAHAM From the movie SIGNS (2002):

People break down into two groups. When they experience something lucky, group number one sees it as more than luck, more than coincidence. They see it as a sign, evidence, that there is someone up there, watching out for them. Group number two sees it as just pure luck. Just a happy turn of chance. I’m sure the people in group number two are looking at those fourteen lights in a very suspicious way. For them, the situation is a fifty-fifty. Could be bad, could be good. But deep down, they feel that whatever happens, they’re on their own. And that fills them with fear. Yeah, there are those people. But there’s a whole lot of people in group number one. When they see those fourteen lights, they’re looking at a miracle. And deep down, they feel that whatever’s going to happen, there will be someone there to help them. And that fills them with hope. See what you have to ask yourself is what kind of person are you? Are you the kind that sees signs, that sees miracles? Or do you believe that people just get lucky? Or, look at the question this way: Is it possible that there are no coincidences?

It’s been two years since the death of a very important person..

Do they leave signs for you to keep hope, even after they have left this reality?

  • NO MORE ‘MATTER’

    NO MORE ‘MATTER’

Art Bell quit Coast to Coast AM after his 2010 Halloween show.
And now Art Bell quit Dark Matter after his 2013 Halloween show.
    The hot air again blows.
The weekend of rumors and speculation regarding the potential demise of Art Bell finally ended tonight with an update on Bell’s website. The page detailed Bell’s request to allow free streaming of the show for four hours on Artbell.com and have Sirius XM be permitted to the downloadable portion..According to the site, Sirius XM said no.
    (As expected).
Immediately afterwards, Art Bell posted this to his Facebook page:
Sometimes when you are “all in” you win, sometimes lose. By mutual agreement, Dark Matter will no longer air as of tonight.
Immediately after that message was posted, he deactivated his Facebook page (as we all know, it’s impossible to ever delete it)..
There is an immense amount of anger among loyal Art Bell fans. Some of them are ranting on Bellgab.com (a site that was renamed that from Coastgab after Bell decided to come back) .. also, nasty comments are being placed n Artbell.com’s Facebook page from listeners confused by the entire affair.

According to the post, as relayed by the now famed ‘Bateman’:

I started the show with the expectation that my listener’s would be able to stream the show since most were coming from AM. They started the thirty day trial and found that it was dropping out on them every few minutes. After the 30 day trial most did not renew, why would they? Faced with paying about $180 bucks a Year for something that was not working right, what would you do? So I lost my base. My show is based on call in, if all I am left with is Truck drivers with cell phones going down the road at 70 MPH, well you get the idea. So I asked Sirius to allow free streaming for a Year until they could fix their problems and they said no. The show was simply not viable under these conditions.

And with that, the ride appears to be over.

Wonder how many calls Sirius will field in the next few days of people asking for partial fees back.. Perhaps that topic is summed up best with this post on Bellgab

Being stuck with worthless Sirius accessories is the worst part. It’s like an STD, it never leaves. I still have a shitty plug and play unit and boombox laying around somewhere in my closet taking up space.

The very short ride is over–OR IS IT?
