BELLGAB creator Michael Vandeven got an exclusive tonight on his weekly ‘Gabcast’ podcast: Art Bell himself called in to speak candidly about his rapid departure from Sirius Xm..
There will no doubt be an audio link at some point this evening, but until then here are some points mentioned:
- Bell Said that he is exploring his legal options, attempting to discern whether his noncompete clause only would prevent him from competing directly in the timeslot he formerly was in, and if it would permit him to stream his own program through Art Bell.com
- Art Bell said he is also weighing his options concerning fighting the noncompete–But he did say that the terms of the noncompete clause would keep him from terrestrial radio, Internet radio, and podcasting..
- Bell Said that he listened to the first few minutes of Coast to Coast a.m. with George Noory last night, and laughed when he heard Noory wonder aloud if rain in Hawaii came from the typhoon in the Philippines
- Bill did not go into specifics but alluded to some behind the scenes workings that made him suspicious, especially the fact that Sirius now has coast to coast on his timeslot–He wondered how long the talks for going on between Premiere radio and Sirius XM..
- Bell said that initially, he felt George Noory was a ‘nice guy.’ Now he has changed his opinion in light of recent developments..
- On the big picture of radio, Art Bell concluded that terrestrial radio does not have much time and Internet podcasting is here to stay, and the way of life for the future.. He said that he has a desire to put on a good show, and truly wants to be able to stream his own program through his own website on his terms.
- Art Bell said that his Halloween program was very weak, and concluded that many of the people who were listening had their 30 day subscriptions for free expire and stopped listening, which led him to believe that that is why he had a smaller call volume by October 31
- Art Bell said that he felt George Knapp was put into a strange position, on one hand hosting Coast to Coast AM occasionally, and on the other hand reporting for NEWS 8 and doing an interview of his friend, Bell..
There is much more, it was a wide-ranging interview, and hats off to Vandeven for asking some pointed questions, and probing deep behind the scenes of Art Bell’s mind..

Art Bell breaks silence on Noory retuning to Sirius XM

First of all my sincere congrats to Premiere Radio, they made the right move. Business is War
and I would have done the same exact thing, and did in my day.
Second, given the same circumstances I would make the same decision again today about Dark
Matter. There is much you do not know and I will not talk about because it was given in confidence
and I am kind of old school so I will not talk about those things even though it would help you to
understand my decision.
Third, I would love it if Sirius/XM would waive my NC but they said no and even though I could run
out and get a Lawyer and perhaps win back my freedom I will most likely not do that. If I were ten
Years younger it might be a different story, I will say this, It seems crazy as hell to me that we offered
exactly what Premiere ended up taking. Now Sirius/XM has a show that will be mostly commercials and
seems much less a good fit than Dark Matter with a Host who thinks a Typhoon in Vietnam causes rain
in Hawaii. (Last night’s show, first hour)
Fourth and finally I would like to say sorry to the people who did come over either by Radio or the less
than stellar streaming, trust me I understand your anger, I only wish you had enough information to
understand my decision.
Art BellIt would certainly appear with this post, and the same post on Facebook, that the long career of Art Bell may in fact be over..
He’s not ten years younger..
And he appears resigned to his non compete clause…
Noory said Bell was ‘winding down.’ Little did anyone know that Noory was helping pull a string to unwind the career of the man who gave him his show so long ago..

For those who did not listen last night, it was an amazing and important Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis, titled “Camp for the useless Eaters” .. I really recommend you give it a listen..
I was moved to true emotion and sadness this morning looking at some images from the Philippines. I saw a photo, which I will not share due to the graphic nature, of a father holding his toddler in his arms.. he was weeping. She was dead.. he was taking her to the morgue. She was the victim of this tremendous disaster that will be the storm for the record books.. I cannot fathom the thoughts of what happened here.. I also cannot explain how angry I am at American media for their selfish attitude regarding news. They cover politics as though it matters.. they feed us trivial garbage, a steady diet of nonsense that spews from their talking head mouths. I dislike them not for who they are, but for who they pretend they are.. We don’t get news. Thank God for the Internet. I am going to post some links at the bottom of this update that, if you want help, you can click on and send whatever..Bodies in the Philippines are being piled high in the streets.. I have a big fear that 10,000 dead is an understatement.. I really fear this..

The ‘cold’ in the United States and the coating of snow that some people got–a coating! It’s November. It gets cold. And it snows. Sometimes there’s cold November rain, so say the Guns N Roses. Sometimes snow. Either way, there was no coverage of the unfolding disaster in other nations. But other nations know what goes on in America–we just don’t know what goes on there.. Sickening, news media..sickening.

And you thought the Leno vs Letterman duel in the 1990s was exciting!
On October 31, George Noory, using the popular message board BELLGAB.COM, changed his avatar to a crown..
People thought he was proclaiming himself the king of paranormal radio. Instead, it may have been a hidden message that, only last night, was revealed to the world..When Art Bell quit DARK MATTER on Sirius XM 104, he said it was because of the timeouts and other user related problems. A week ago, he even proposed a solution: Stream through Artbell.com, become an independent broadcaster, take no salary from Sirius, but still be exclusive to them.. Though he, his producer Paul Bowman, and webmaster Keith Rowland, all said that Sirius was considering the deal, the suits in D.C. never responded to the request.
Last night, the first night that Art Bell’s DARK MATTER had officially ended, Sirius XM replaced his program with Coast to Coast AM with George Noory.
As expected, message boards across the internet woke up with anger and confusion. Was this the hidden back story that Art Bell alluded to? For days now, he wrote cryptic statements on BELLGAB, wondering aloud if ‘big money’ had something to do with ‘something’ going on behind the scenes.
The ink on his deal with Sirius had never even dried before, apparently, some form of negotiation started to occur with Premiere Radio..
George Noory himself even took to BELLGAB last night to defend himself–some of the messages he was publicly receiving consisted of unabashed rage and anger. Noory said, in full:Here you go folks. This is WHAT happened. As many of you know, we were on XM for years . The end of OCT that channel went away. We knew this was coming for months prior. WE began negotiations to get Sirius/XM to BUY the rights to air my show. When Art went on Sirius those negotiations continued. We didn’t know what channel we’d be on, but I wanted to flow after Art’s Dark Matter .It would have been a strong channel. He up and RESIGNED. We then got the offer we were waiting for and had two options for channels 104 and a truckers channel. We selected 104. We are NOT in Art’s original 7pm-10pm PT slot. we start at 10PM PT. He RESIGNED. We never expected that…and frankly he made a mistake , I believe. Don’t blame us for getting BACK on a satellite network we were ON in the past.
What is interesting about Noory’s statement is the time problem. Art Bell’s original show was going to air from 7pm PDT to 10pm PDT, but he expanded it to four hours .. Additionally, the HORROR REPORT spoke to Art Bell in August, before his show began to air on Sirius, and he explained that he has the entire night and could, if he wanted to, expand the show to a full eight hours. The HORROR REPORT asked him, if there was a breaking news event, could he extend the program if he desired to cover it..
The fact that Sirius was negotiating with Noory, planning on taking away his hours of repeat (or potential live shows) and replace it with Coast to Coast AM, is beyond interesting. It may be paranormal radio treason!
It could explain some of the back story as to why Bell suddenly vanished from extraterrestrial radio.

How to properly quit Sirius XM radio: Don’t sign up at all..
Art Bell was taken off INDIE 104. All of his shows for download have been deleted… with it all being over, I decided to end my Sirius XM Service.
If only it was just that easy..
First off.. I promised myself years ago to never sign up for satellite radio–then Art decided to host and I broke my terrestrial radio self-commandment.
After spending over a half hour on the phone, fighting about hidden fees and little early cancellation costs, I will command myself again: NEVER SIGN UP FOR PAY RADIO. I get that companies want to make money.. and I understand I am canceling before my ‘one year of service.’ And now they know that they have one of the worst companies ever–at least in terms of canceling service–that I have ever dealt with…
Here is the kicker that put me over the edge.. I was asked for an explanation on why I was quitting. I explained the obvious, very calm… The nice woman from somewhere on this planet asked if she wanted me to find shows similar to Dark Matter if it would help keep my service. I said sure, be my guest.
Six minutes later she came back and asked if I listen to music–obviously her search ended up in a Black Hole. She put me on hold again.. when she came back, she said she wanted me to understand that me quitting is not her company’s fault, but that is was “Clyde Lewis’ own decision to end Ground Zero.”
I was floored.First off, I explained, Clyde Lewis didn’t host DARK MATTER, and I further explained that there was a separate issue which forced Ground Zero off of satellite radio .. She was legitimately confused as to what I was saying. I mean, if you’re going to spout Jess-written talking points, at least don’t get them confused with each other.
This also tells me some folks have been ending their service since Clyde Lewis is gone, too…At a certain point, after my early fees and fees and fees and hidden fees and pretend costs, I ended up with $111.11 back–ironic since it was 11/11 that Art’s shows had all been taken off of Sirius. BUT THEN she told me an extra $12 had to come off for some other reason…. I didn’t even fight at this point. I just wanted my money back.. and they have it, and I want it.
And finally.. the final bombed dropped when I ended the call. She said, “thank you, and you should see your money in 10 to 15 business days.”
WHAT!?

The Philippines turns into hell on earth.. Some reports have said that the survivors of Haiyan have been said to be walking like zombies across the destroyed landscape, in search of food.. even more, food water, and medical supplies are dangerously short.
Reports claim that the destruction in the Philippines from Haiyan is ‘absolute bedlam’.. Red Cross workers are describing the horrendous scene on the ground that they are seeing.. Hundreds of thousands of people are displaced and one town of 40,000 people is called Guiuan is said to be largely destroyed.. Even more alarming, the BBC reports that the city of Baco n the Oriental Mindoro province is 80% under water.. that town has 35,000 people in it. I believe with numbers as harrowing as that, the death toll may rise substantially higher than 10,000..
We do know this: Body bags being rushed in.There are some attempts for rescue victims from the storm still taking place.. Fear and starvation in the Philippines as food mobs are already attacking aid trucks..
The troubling situation with Haiyan is not over. There is Midweek trouble brewing for the Philppines as a new tropical system gets organized..

Ever since Art Bell quit DARK MATTER on Sirius XM, fans on Bellgab.com have taken to the popular message board to express their frustration with the sudden move..
Tonight, Bell expressed some frustration back..After hundreds of pages of the thread, the now former radio show host wrote this in a response to someone asking him for information:
Thanks for asking, I am fine. Nothing much to say that I have not already said but good evening! However I will repeat, people here have no idea the intense talks that were going on from about 3 days after the show started about the stream drops, I do understand however how it seemed abrupt to the listener. Also, the deal we tried to make on Wed, two days after the show stopped was a very good one and after saying they took it very seriously they stopped communicating. I will say again, I think something else is going on. For those above who listened and did not like the show anyway, it should not even be a issue worth talking about unless you just like seeing a message from yourself.
A few more posts later, Bell unleashed regarding Sirius XM:
People keep saying “why don’t you try and work it out with Sirius/XM” We have been trying to do that from three days after the show started, we had confrence call after confrence call with them trying to get it worked out, there was a lot of talk but no fix. We told them the base was leaving and this would effect our partnership if something was not done. At about the six Week mark after most who had tried the free 30 day trial had given up and left MAINLY because of the drop outs we asked for a remedy as in a Year of streaming OR until the problem was fixed, it ended when they said NO. 48 Hours after that we made a offer to work with no pay and let Sirius/XM have the show exclusivly while we streamed from the Web Site, they said they would consider that and have not responded to phone calls, email’s or texting since. How is that NOT working with them?
The HORROR REPORT has been told that the ‘typical’ means of communication have taken place .. Camp Bell proposed the idea last week of broadcasting DARK MATTER live on ArtBell.com, while Sirius would have maintained exclusive rights to the program.. Bell and others, including his producer and friend Paul Bowman, said that Sirius XM were considering the offer as recently as last Wednesday..
While there has been no official response from the satellite radio company, they also took mentions of Bell off of their website and removed his program from this upcoming weekly lineup..I am not crazy about the way some things have been handled, they canned Paul without so much as a Human voice doing the job and he had been trying to get a handle on the streaming mess every day. Now they take the tactic of simply not responding in any way to ALL forms of communication the modern World has. At least I spoke to them like people in a normal business relationship. I am telling you there is something else in the works.
Bell continued in further posts trying to provoke users to express anger and questions at Sirius XM instead of him.. The bizarre situation even has the likes of Richard C. Hoagland commenting on the entire affair..
As of Sunday night, the DARK MATTER program remains, overall, a mystery.. Clear reading of tea leaves may suggest that Bell no longer has a home on Sirius XM, but without a definite answer being given to the host of the program, Producer Bowman, or webmaster Keith Rowland, time will tell–and tell soon. Monday night at 10pm EDT.. will DARK MATTER air, or will Jay Thomas be repeated?
