Amazon Workers Are Listening to What You Tell Alexa

The listening team is comprised of part-time contractors and full-time Amazon employees based all over the world; including India, Romania, Boston and Costa Rica.

Listeners work nine hour shifts, with each reviewing as many as 1,000 audio clips per shift according to two employees from Amazon’s Bucharest office – located in the top three floors of the Romanian capital’s Globalworth building. The location “stands out amid the crumbling infrastructure” of the Pipera district and “bears no exterior sign advertising Amazon’s presence.”

While much of the work is boring (one worker said his job was to mine for accumulated voice data for specific phrases such as “Taylor Swift” – letting the system know that the searcher was looking for the artist), reviewers are also listening on people’s most personal moments.

A man who had just bought an $8 million island off of Key West was arrested Saturday for participating in what police described as a scheme to steal $300 in household items from Kmart.

Officials at Kmart called Key West police April 5 after they say Andrew Francis Lippi, 59, had purchased several items, including a Keurig coffeemaker and light bulbs, and returned the original boxes for a refund. But police say the boxes were stuffed with other items. For example, store officials said a basketball was inside the Keurig box.

Massive gas explosion kills and injures in North Carolina

Zoldos said the cause of the explosion was still under investigation. A contractor boring under a sidewalk had hit a 2-inch (5-centimeter) gas line, causing the leak, Durham Police Department spokesman Wil Glenn said. Glenn linked the boring work to the explosion during a morning briefing, but Zoldos later said the cause was still under investigation.

Dominion Energy said in a press release Wednesday that subsidiary company PSNC Energy had received a call about “third-party” damage to a natural gas line in Durham. A PSNC worker responded, and the explosion “occurred shortly thereafter.” The company said additional crews arrived and shut off the gas.

Deputy City Manager Bo Ferguson said boring for a fiber communications network had been underway in the area, but city officials were working to confirm that and couldn’t release the name of the contractor.

Blocks away, the blast shattered windows and blew at least one door off its hinges in the Brightleaf shopping district. Ed Rains was on a nearby street and couldn’t see the blast but heard it. “I thought someone had dropped a dumpster on the street,” he said.

Tracy Telenko was at his desk in his third-floor Durham office when he heard the explosion and saw black smoke billowing up.

STRANGER THINGS tops ‘favorite show’ list on Netflix

According to a new report from leading Wall Street analysts MoffettNathanson, seven of the ten programs most often identified as Netflix subscriber favorites are produced in-house, with Stranger Things and Orange Is the New Black outperforming acquired hits such as Friends and The Office. 

MoffettNathanson arrived at its conclusion by surveying more than 500 Americans from among a demographically representative sample, and then asking the 430 who said they had access to Netflix to list up to five of their favorite programs from the service..

two shows were named by more than 10 percent of the survey responders: Stranger Things (13 percent) and ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK (10 percent)

The discovery deepens the mystery of an era when the world was a melting pot of many different human kinds on the move.
Small-jawed with dainty teeth, able to walk upright but with feet still shaped to climb, these island creatures were a mix-and-match patchwork of primitive and advanced features in a unique variation of the human form, the scientists reported Wednesday in the journal Nature.

The researchers formally named the newly discovered species Homo luzonensis in honor of the island where they found it. They unearthed the fossils from the floor of an immense limestone cavern called Callao Cave.

BRET HART attacker felt it was the “right time” to go after him!

The wrestling fan who attacked Bret “The Hitman” Hart during his WWE Hall of Fame speech thought it was “the right moment” to go after the wrestling legend, it was revealed in court Sunday.

“I just felt like it was the right moment,” Zachary Madsen told police, prosecutors said in court.

Madsen allegedly rushed past a barricade and tackled Hart and a WWE security guard during the Hall of Fame ceremony at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn on Saturday night.

Madsen, of Lincoln, Neb., was ordered held on $1,500 bond at his arraignment on assault and criminal trespassing charges in Brooklyn criminal court

There are coming changes to the online world in Europe.. Great Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May said that the era of self regulation is over.. Cyber bullying and porn online has become too free.. too much… the government, the citizens of the UK are told, is the onl group of honest barrons who can save the citizens from the freedoms of their speech..

A white paper on online harms, published jointly by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Home Office, proposes strict new rules be introduced that require firms to take responsibility for their users and their safety, as well as the content that appears on their services.
Overseen by an independent regulator, internet companies which break these rules could even see senior management held personally liable for the failings.

A newly introduced duty of care would require firms to take more responsibility for the safety of users and more actively tackle the harm caused by content or activity on their platforms.

Just as price increases by governments get passed down to citizens who pay prices to private firms, this will work the same.
Social platforms have already increasingly regulated speech of its users—they have the privacy policies that allow it… and in a sense freedom of speech does not apply when a private company is your platform … the government is not regulating YOU.. but THEM.. AND they will have the freedom to regulate your freedom.
See? This is how it works in the gutters of the socials… in a world where we gave all of our freedom and rights and photographs to a corporate social structure that now will be highly regulated by the government of the UK in a Chinese style of censorship.
