Reports of liver disease in children expanding in the United States

Delaware officials confirmed a case in a child, according to an emailed statement, adding to earlier reports from Alabama, North Carolina and Illinois. Health officials in New York state and Wisconsin said they’re investigating reports of pediatric hepatitis that match a description released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said Wednesday afternoon that one of four cases under investigation resulted in a fatality. If confirmed, it would be the first death linked to the illness in the U.S.

“The man at Mount Sinai died after 90 days in the hospital, but C. auris did not. Tests showed it was everywhere in his room, so invasive that the hospital needed special cleaning equipment and had to rip out some of the ceiling and floor tiles to eradicate it.

“Everything was positive — the walls, the bed, the doors, the curtains, the phones, the sink, the whiteboard, the poles, the pump,” said Dr. Scott Lorin, the hospital’s president. “The mattress, the bed rails, the canister holes, the window shades, the ceiling, everything in the room was positive.”

    C. auris is so tenacious, in part, because it is impervious to major antifungal medications, making it a new example of one of the world’s most intractable health threats: the rise of drug-resistant infections.

For decades, public health experts have warned that the overuse of antibiotics was reducing the effectiveness of drugs that have lengthened life spans by curing bacterial infections once commonly fatal. But lately, there has been an explosion of resistant fungi as well, adding a new and frightening dimension to a phenomenon that is undermining a pillar of modern medicine.”

Georgia toddler paralyzed overnight as AFM fears grow nationwide

A Georgia mother said her toddler went to bed sick and woke up paralyzed from the neck down.

It’s the latest in a series of mysterious illnesses that are baffling doctors. Two young patients were recently treated at Scottish Rite after they fell ill and then woke up partially paralyzed.

Doctors are still working to figure out what causes acute flaccid myelitis, or AFM, but they tell Channel 2 Action News in Georgia that the rare condition is similar to polio, in that it can cause muscle weakness or partial paralysis.

High degrees of synchronicity in Zombieland

Last night Clyde Lewis’ Ground Zero radio program detailed a table top exercise last week in Baltimore Maryland. In the ‘event’ a strange disease called para-fluenza struck, causing a worldwide fear of pandemic. The entire event was to force people to consider what would really happen in the face of some worldwide global disease catastrophe that struck the healthy, the aged, and the young alike.

And while Clyde spoke during his program, real news was developing in the world that may force people to ponder how much of an ‘exercise’ the exercise really was.
    Disease X..
There is a recent outbreak in South India that have renewed interest in the Nipah virus—something discovered 20 years ago..
It spreads through bats and pigs to humans. It has been known to kill up to three-quarters of those infected..
About five days ago, news broke that at least 90 were in quarantine. Last night, officials confirmed that the casualties are mounting in the country. The death toll officially stands at 14 at this time.
The Nipah disease is brain-eating. It is causing fear among the walking living in Southern India. And beyond.
The entire world has seemingly been on constant high alert about almost everything and anything over the past decade or so.. Real news looks more like fiction and fictitious disease exercises seem more like reality.
We have been constantly warned with each new or old disease discovered or rediscovered that it could be the next novel strain of worldwide disease.
We collectively hope that will never be the case.
However those visiting cemeteries yesterday for Memorial Day may have been greeted with an inconvenient truth if looking at dates on headstones: 1918 was a busy year for funeral homes. The great flu then killed millions worldwide. One hundred years later, now, we wonder if the same will occur all over again..
  • While we are watching the friendly skies for Ebola to land.. maybe it’s already here?

While we are watching the friendly skies for Ebola to land.. maybe it’s already here?

A doctor named Alan Jamison put himself in self-quarantine in his Tennessee home. While there are no reports that he has Ebola, he treated Ebola patients in Liberia…

He did this Monday—meaning that this entire week, while the United States debated whether bringing Ebola patients to a hospital adjacent to the CDC was a good idea or not, it  may have already here all along..

CNN is reporting on the doctor.. and also the fact that he has exhibited no signs of the disease yet..

Worth reading: Jamison has no symptoms at this point.

    CNN says,

He plans to be in isolation for 21 days, which is the incubation period for the disease or the time between infection and onset of symptoms.

“My last encounter with a patient who had Ebola was on July 19,” he said. “I contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on my arrival … and informed them I had been in West Africa and my history.”

The father of three said his daughter picked him up from the airport and dropped him at home, where he’s quarantined himself and has had no contact with anyone since.

Good thing the CDC knows about this..

    But I have a few questions…

How many other doctors, or people, are doing the same thing as Dr. Jamison? Should the CDC be more keenly aware, and are they even aware of everyone that may be doing this self-isolation treatment?  Should Dr. Jamison being transferred to the CDC location where these other two patients—who definitely have Ebola—are going to be housed ..?

But potentially even more troubling in my mind.. it’s a nice gesture to self-quarantine, but what about the plane he rode with others to get back to the United States?

There is one factor also worth considering—I did not know this until now. Ebola is only contagious after the 21-day incubation period.. That would make for a great sequel to 28 DAYS LATER, but it also creates a far greater chance for developed nations to prevent this disease ..

And let’s face it: The death toll is rough. 90% of those who contact Ebola die.. But a few hundred (conservative estimate, sure) of a few million people isn’t a lot.. Even in third world nations, where disease is abundant, Ebola is still hard to catch under the right circumstances.

The problem is the amount of distrust of governments in the African nations where the disease is hitting, and the refusals to be isolated and also, quite often, the fears of modern medicine..

Baby can you dig your man

Anyone who follows me or has read this website for any amount of time will know well that when I get worried about something, there’s a tendancy on my part to overkill the issue.. Ebola has been the latest bit of news getting me to tighten my tin foil hat..

The prospects of EBOLA being present in the United States—on purpose—gave me chills.. Yes, it’s Americans who obviously have the right to be in America, and we’re told the chamber fortress where the treatment in Atlanta will take place is safer than any place on earth.. but.. don’t you still get a bit of a chill hearing that Ebola is purposely being brought to the United States? That a hospital will treat patients here? Maybe I am too ‘American’ in my thought—-but to those who think I don’t care about Africans suffering the affliction, you’re wrong. I have been paranoid about this for years and have constantly worried about it, and reported about it… The latest outbreak is the worst ever seen.. Hopefully it burns itself out.. gets under control…

Let’s hope Captain Trips will not exist.

And yes, the man who discovered the virus says that he would sit next to someone on a train if they were infected with it.

    But would you?
    Would I?

There is chaos constantly on the planet earth.. It reminds me more than a bit like the opening scenes of the STAND, or opening paragraphs depending on how you discovered it..

EBOLA is coming to our shores.. it’s real, it’s on purpose.

Let’s hope and pray that all of those rational people saying there’s nothing to see here are right.

    But .. until then..

    Baby..can you dig your man!?
