    Polio detected in NYC’s sewage, suggesting that the virus is circulating

    The presence of the poliovirus in the city’s wastewater suggests likely local circulation of the virus, health authorities from the city, New York state and the federal government said.

    The authorities urged parents to get their children vaccinated against the potentially deadly disease.

    “The risk to New Yorkers is real but the defense is so simple — get vaccinated against polio,” New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said. “With polio circulating in our communities there is simply nothing more essential than vaccinating our children to protect them from this virus, and if you’re an unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated adult, please choose now to get the vaccine. Polio is entirely preventable and its reappearance should be a call to action for all of us.”

    UK EMERGENCY: POLIO FOUND IN SEWAGE SYSTEM

    Traces of polio virus found in London sewage as health officials declare national incident.. more: Officials believe there has been some spread between closely linked individuals in northeast London – probably extended family members.

    SKY NEWS REPORTING: Traces of the polio virus have been found during a routine sewage inspection in London, leading the UK Health Security Agency to declare a national incident.Health officials are now concerned about the community spread of the virus after samples were collected from the Beckton Sewage Treatment Works in London, but have stressed the risk to the public is extremely low.

    THE UK SUN GOES INTO MORE DETAIL:

    Experts have detected the same bug in London sewage samples since April – a clear signal of a community outbreak.

    No cases have yet been confirmed in the UK and the UKHSA said samples were found in East and North London.

    This, chiefs say ‘suggests it is likely there has been some spread between closely-linked individuals’.

    Because of this, they said these cases could be shedding the virus strain in their feces.

    This story is sad… Very very sad..

    WE have been following this polio like sorry for years now. Each September or so it seems to spike–right around the time when back to school vaccines increase ..

    There are reports state and federal health officials are investigating this death of this innocent and beautiful 6-year-old boy as a possible case of a rare condition that causes paralysis, called acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) – which is on the rise in American children.

    According to the CDC, 89 people in 33 states have been confirmed to have AFM so far this year, most of them children. That’s up from 21 cases in 2015.

    There was also a surge of cases in the second half of 2014; the CDC says it received reports of 120 cases across the U.S. between August and December that year.
