Today was a special day.. after finding some old parts and some connections, we were able to fire up the ole colortini and watch the pictures as they flew through the air–20th century Tom Snyder style. What we mean by this old reference is this: We dug out an OLD computer from the closet and .. boom.. have it set up like the good ole days again.
Now keep in mind, there are historic roots with this old Packard Bell. My mom and dad, now deceased, made sure this was the mighty Christmas gift for me back in 1997–I was online with Dial Up before several other friends.. I used this computer to create an Angelfire site.. eventually a Geocities site.. and then finally got the .Com and the Horror Report was born.
But also on this old handy dandy piece heirloom: AOL instant message.. as though it never got deleted by the AOL .. it exists, with an internet connection, just attempting to sign on. No one told this old beast that AIM is long dead. Sadly.. We didn’t know how good we had it.
But I also found my old email.. just bits and pieces of history .. snippets of times gone by and photos, dumb forwards, and an email chain including the “All your bases are belong to us” pre-social media meme.
And reviewing these previous emails answered a very important question as to how memes spread, and how the word was exchanged: EMAIL!
Email was where it was at.. you got contacts by seeing who others forwarded things to. You got jokes and strange memes before there were memes. There were few GIFs but there were sure links to them. Until DSL came around, 4 second clips took up too much room so we just told each other what website to go to in order to find them..
I have a lot of emails from people I quite frankly do not even remember really.
Mostly people who emailed me through my website back then. Let me tell you the most amazing thing of all .. people wrote in complete paragraphs. I did, too. Not just completely paragraphs, but well thought out versions of them. With punctuation and grammar that was impressively accurate.
We cared about how we sounded and we wanted to express ourselves in funny ways .. this is just 20 years ago. Two decades.
But in that much time we basically became one sentence of one word people. Or just memes and gifs are used. Is it really true that we don’t have time anymore?
Or do we just not have the ability to focus anymore?
Anyway.. I encourage you, if you have a similar old device, fire it up and either be proud or, at times, cringe at your youthful indiscretion. Actually come to think of it, I dare you!! Triple dog style. You will possibly not even recognize the person you were two sets of tens ago.
Either way it is a part of who you are.. and maybe at this point simply who you were..
The Biden administration is hunting for malicious computer code it believes China has hidden deep inside the networks controlling power grids, communications systems and water supplies that feed military bases in the United States and around the world, according to American military, intelligence and national security officials.
The discovery of the malware has raised fears that Chinese hackers, probably working for the People’s Liberation Army, have inserted code designed to disrupt U.S. military operations in the event of a conflict, including if Beijing moves against Taiwan in coming years.
But when it gets hot we get alarming reports that it has ‘never been this hot before.’ it has.. and will be again.
But boy when it’s hot, and this hot, it feels like it was never this hot before.
From the National Weather Service: Summer heat wave builds across the central and eastern U.S. and excessive heat continues in the Southwest. An upper level system may produce storms capable of damaging winds, tornadoes, large hail, and heavy rain in the Great Lakes. The tail end of this system may also spark severe storms in the Plains. We have heard of extreme couponing. It doesn’t compare to this scheme to ‘save the planet’ and earn millions in what prosecutors call fraud and illegal.
In a felony complaint filed this month, state prosecutors charged eight family members in Riverside County with defrauding the state by importing used bottles and cans from Arizona — some 178 tons in 8 months — and recycling them in California.
The recycling operation earned the family $7.6 million, according to a statement from the office of California’s Attorney General, Rob Bonta. Investigators also found a stash of “illegally imported beverage containers” worth another $1 million.
When someone purchases a plastic or aluminum bottle in California, they typically pay an extra 5 to 10 cents in “California Redemption Value,” or CRV, which the consumer can get back by returning the items to one of the state’s more than 1,200 recycling centers. Arizona has no such program.
“California’s recycling program is funded by consumers, and helps protect our environment and our communities,” Bonta said. “Those who try to undermine its integrity through criminal operations will be held accountable.”

But the question is this.. was the video edited in a small town?
The video, which currently has more than 19 million views, is now six seconds shorter than when it was uploaded to YouTube on July 14. It no longer contains news footage from Fox 5 Atlanta depicting violent confrontations during the nationwide Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020.
It’s unclear when the video was edited but it seems to have been within the last week.
Portions of the news clip appeared twice in the original music video — in one instance, they were projected on the wall of the Maury County Courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee, where a Black man named Henry Choate, was lynched in 1927. The courthouse was also the site of the 1946 Columbia Race Riot.

For the past few days, hundreds of people have taken to Twitter–ERRR—X (still need to get used to typing that out) about a strange anomaly on Facebook..
It appears that when looking up chickensoup on Facebook, they think you are trying to find child pornography..
Some have complained that they have been locked out of their accounts simply by searching for it.
When Twitter user @KingBobIIV tweeted out the Facebook message that appeared after searching for “chicken soup,” one person responded with a fairly upsetting reason. According to @ItsPropaPanda, some “users were sharing and asking for links to child abuse images and videos.” They added, “Sometimes they used generic terms with the initials ‘C.P.’ a common abbreviation for ‘child pornography,’ and code like ‘caldo de pollo,’ which means ‘chicken soup’ in Spanish.”
Concerned parents notified NBC News of accounts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter and in the comments of YouTube videos where users were sharing and asking for links to child abuse images and videos. Many of the links were to groups on private messaging apps, including Telegram and WhatsApp, as well as to file-sharing sites such as Mega. Sometimes they used generic terms with the initials “C.P.,” a common abbreviation for “child pornography,” and code like “caldo de pollo,” which means “chicken soup” in Spanish. Others referred to the names of children who appear in sets of child abuse imagery already known to law enforcement. NBC News did not click on the links to verify that they contained what they advertised.
