Chinese officials say they did not detect any “unusual or novel diseases” in the country, the World Health Organization said Thursday, following an official request by the U.N. health agency for information about a potentially worrying spike in respiratory illnesses and clusters of pneumonia in children.
WHO cited unspecified media reports and a global infectious disease monitoring service as reporting clusters of undiagnosed pneumonia in children in northern China and formally requested more details from China earlier this week.
Multiple riots have broken out in Dublin, Ireland, leaving thousands of people enraged after an immigrant, believed to be Algerian, carried out a stabbing attack outside a school that injured three children and two adults.
Sections of the crowd clashed with police, reportedly injuring several officers, and set several police cars and vehicles on fire, while fireworks were thrown into the streets.
Police have detained a man in his 50s for the knife attack. Authorities believe the attack was a “standalone” incident.

Taiwanese news website FTV News said that children were presenting to hospitals inBeijingand Liaoning – 500 miles northeast – with symptoms including a high fever and inflammation of the lungs, but no cough.
A Beijing citizen told the outlet: “Many, many (children) are hospitalised. They don’t cough and have no symptoms. They just have a high temperature and many develop pulmonary nodules.”

There is tremendous hand wringing about the movie THE MARVELS and its release at the box office. Its failure has been blamed on mail dominated fan bases–bias! Discrimination! The movie was just so perfect but yet not appreciated.
But a viewing of the film.. really.. can prove otherwise. The script was weak. The lines were awful. Any small bits of humors were far and few between and for the most part it was a showcase of how we are at a point of no return with comic book movies. They have worn us down.
And even the greatest Marvels fans? Well they too may be done with all this madness in the Marvelverse!
The first week for the film was fairly low. The next week it dropped substantially. We are now at a point where the studio is going to be hardpressed to make much money from this movie.

Terrorist threats against the U.S. reached “a whole other level” after the Hamas attack on Israel, FBI Director Christopher A. Wray told Congress on Tuesday, saying the big players in terrorism have all renewed calls to attack America and its interests.
He said the level of threats has heightened since President Biden took office, though U.S. law enforcement is “better prepared to deal with them.”
“The reality is that the terrorism threat has been elevated throughout 2023, but the ongoing war in the Middle East has raised the threat of attack on Americans to a whole other level,” Mr. Wray said.

The darkness of the night combined with the fiery orange and red aura of fire.. It’s striking and beautiful. This time of year warrants reflection and perseverance .. it requires deep solemn reflection..
While we aren’t performing sacrifices today we still perform rituals that date back to ancient Celtic customs during the festival of Samhain. Others say that the origination of this Pagan holiday travel back even further in the annals of history. But the Celts did it so well that even a Pope had to create a religious All Saints Day to counter it.
And while some may say religion ‘took over’ pagan holidays, it’s interesting to consider that we still basically memorialize each pagan custom annually while religion falters as time beats on.
The bobbing for apples to see which young woman will marry a heroic male. The orange and black colors to symbolize death and the bright fires to honor the sun. The harvest. The end of summer.. the story of Stingy Jack tricking the devil only to rummage across the countryside forever cursed.
And the costumes. The idea that we needed to dress like the dead only to mix in with them so they couldn’t notice us when the veil was thing between the here and there.
Something about Halloween is visceral. Real. True. Something seems to connect us better this holiday than others. We all experience the darkness and have similar reactions. The seasonal depression and lack of vitamin D start to hit. We feel we can’t escape the encroaching night and vanishing act of the sun. There seems to be hopelessness but yet it’s supposed to be like this.
Samhain is the time for reflection and melancholy thought for those who have gone. Maybe tonight, with the thinness of the earthly realm, we’ll get to see them.
We all feel connected on Halloween even more than Christmas. During the Christmas season we spend time with friends an family. But on Halloween we present ourselves in costume or parties in groups of strangers. We all rummage the streets together and go to houses owned by people we never knew or saw. To give them tricks.. or ask for treats.
All of this is experienced as a communal event.
The connection is real..
While people may be brave and not prone to cheap frights, Halloween gives opportunity to be a little uneasy. What’s lurking behind shadows or in street alleys under a light. Which spirits were strong enough to get through…
And when, just when, will that light return. When will the sun be born again… we all crave light.
So reflect again. Be one with this planet and your soul.
It’s Halloween. Everyone’s entitled to one good scare.
Enjoy it now. Because Mariah defrosts earlier each year.
