The FAA has issued an Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) for certain Airbus 319 and A320/A321 airplanes due to potential failures of on-board control systems due to problems created by geomagnetic storms. The EAD requires replacing or modifying the software that controls the airplanes’ elevator ailerons, a critical part of the plane that controls an aircraft’s roll or banking. According to the EAD, operators must perform the work before the airplane flies again by midnight tonight. The EAD also prohibits installing the affected software on any aircraft
Solar physicists are expecting an uptick in stormy “space weather,” with implications that affect us here on Earth…
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting that a solar outburst could generate northern lights or aurora as far south as Oregon to Pennsylvania.
This is the flare to begin “Solar Cycle 25.” It’s alive.
The National Weather Service’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) has issued a Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Earth which starts today and extends through Friday, with tomorrow being the peak day for potential problems. Because of the strength of inbound energy, a G3 Watch is in effect for Thursday which indicates a “strong” event is possible.
GEOMAGNETIC STORM WARNING: It’s coming. A coronal mass ejection (CME) is heading for Earth, and geomagnetic storms are possible when it arrives later today or tomorrow. NOAA forecasters expect the most intense disturbances to occur on Dec. 10th with peak storm levels nea r category G3. If that happens, auroras could be sighted in the USA in states as far south as, e.g., Illinois and Oregon
There is a negative and positive to these events.
First the positive is the beauty..This particular storm could trigger an aurora to in the clear, light-pollution free skies of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon, and Idaho…
The negative: Disruption of technology like radio.. electrical systems.. radio communications, and navigation..
For historical significance, Pennsylvania does not see the ‘northern lights.’ Unless it is a big enough solar event.
This time it may be.
The “old timers” among us may recall a beautiful event that was seen in the skies the night of September 27, 1938 — my own father told me that his own father told him, just as Hitler was taking the world into war, people were dancing in the streets under light shows in the sky. ..
That interesting even was captured by the Associated Press in a report from State College Pennsylvania on September 29, 1938. The AP reported at that time that the lights were the most brilliant since 1908. The lights were called unusually bright and brilliant.
The ‘Civil War Aurora’ was seen on December 14, 1862 by Civil War soldiers in Fredericksberg Virginia. According to a letter by Milo Grow “There was a brilliant exhibition of Aurora Borealis soon after dark last night. For half an hour it shows very brilliantly reaching to the mid heavens in colors of yellow and red.
The most recent major solar storm occurred on Halloween night in 2003. Halloween Storm spawned auroras that were seen over most of North America. Extensive satellite problems were reported, including the loss of the $450 million Midori-2 research satellite..
Solar Cycle 25 promises more extraordinary events.
Hopefully most steer clear of Earth and our technology in 2021.
These things can happen–even during a solar minimum!
Here is a time lapse of the sun from August 16 2020:
NOAA analysts have modeled the trajectory this CME.. Their conclusion: It could deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on August 20, 2020.. Thurday.
From NOAA:
Clearly, the storm cloud is not heading directly for Earth. However, NOAA models of the CME’s trajectory suggest it could deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field on August 20th. Minor geomagnetic storms and high-latitude auroras are possible when the CME arrives.
And more reason for no fear: Fortunately, the SWPC noted that the CME was created by a B1-class solar flare, which is the weakest type. This means that only a minor geomagnetic storm would occur if the CME hits Earth.
This morning while skimming VICE I found a snippet of information worth repeating:
According to unpublished FEMA documents obtained by Government Attic, a FOIA database and non-profit organization, the Department of Homeland Security agency once mapped out a disaster plan for the occurrence of another geomagnetic “superstorm,” noting that the rare—yet “high-consequence”—scenario has “the potential for catastrophic impact on our nation and FEMA’s ability to respond.”
Lots of sites and pages on social media are playing this up! Confirmation that the end times are here!
….I look at it a bit differently.
First off if such an event occurred we would be barely ready. Some agencies and people with islands including solar panels could be well off, but society as a whole would undoubtedly disintegrate rapidly. That is where the contingency plans may need to be focused.. The aftermath. The weeks–months, years?–without power in some locales. And the idea that our life, powered by electricity, would be essentially shifted into the abyss of cavemen lifestyles immediately. Dapper dans donning suits and ties at work? That goes away quickly. That facade you’re comfortably acting out only works with heat, air conditioning, and lights.
I am glad the government is planning things out. A solar flare of epic proportions happened before. It will happen again. All things, when able to happen, will happen. Disasters. Good days. Bad days. Asteroids. Water supply problems. Droughts. Floods. And yes, solar storms.
The government needs to be better prepared. While they are at it they should also being hunting down killer asteroids that potentially can end life. And we can all hope that an asteroid doesn’t coincide with the solar storm. …that…that..would be hell on earth.
The dateline on the article is June 23, 2015.. Tuesday night is going to be a wild evening for some, at least if the skies are clear and the Northern Lights create the beautiful aurora as far south as experts say they could happen..
This is all because of a huge solar storm that struck earth just as summer officially began.. NOAA says this could be the largest geomagnetic storm to hit earth since March 2005–a decade in time.
Look to the skies tonight.. There may be some magical fluctuations in the magnetic field greeting your eyes.. Heads up.
A long duration C9 eruption around sunspot 2297 hurled a coronal mass ejection (CME) into space and may have a small Earth directed component…
This comes after the X class solar flare emitted from the sun late last week, that one was also earth directed.
The newest flare certainly is not as strong as the X class beast that fired, but each flare is different. And each flare should be watched for its effects on the earth’s magnetic safety net and radio signals and other terrestrial satellites in orbit..
The glancing blows seem to be getting repetitious. Either something big is constantly being averted and luck will run out, or that magnetic field is being controlled by a greater force that is protecting Earth..
One day, as we know and have been warned, luck will run out.
An extreme solar flare is blasting its way to Earth and could mess up some power grids, satellites and radio transmissions, scientists say.
It’s been several years since Earth has had a solar storm of this size coming from sunspots smack in the middle of the sun, said Tom Berger, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado.
And this:
Forecasters don’t yet know when Wednesday’s solar storm will arrive here and which part of the planet will be facing the sun and bear the brunt of the effects. It could arrive as early as Thursday morning or may take a few days.
As the President spoke tonight about an new coming war to the world, the world began to brace itself for the hell unleashed from the sun.
Perhaps another reminder that the gates of hell have blown wide open..
Solar games from Ed Dames.. the man behind the term ‘killshot’ goes to Facebook to talk about the coming dreadful moment he claimed he foresaw in remote viewing sessions.
But apparently not this one ..

Latest CME prediction model released by the Goddard Space Flight Center is showing a nearly direct CME impact by Friday
The Northern Lights may be awfully bright by the week’s end.
