DINOSAUR RUN! JURASSIC WORLD TAKES $18 MIL ON THURSDAY ALONE, ESTIMATES OF $125 MIL FOR WEEKEND MAY BE SURPASSED..

FILM IS IN 4273 STRONG

CAN IT BEAT THE AGE OF ULTRON?

AGE OF ULTRON opened with $195 mil.. JURASSIC WORLD was set for $125 mil.. but with Thursday rock and sock and Friday ticket sales, ULTRON may face competition.. Finalized numbers may near $155 mil for the return of the mighty mean DINOSAUR to the big screen..

People have often said that the box office totals don’t matter.Maybe.. if you like a movie, you like a movie.

But summer movies are judged by the cash influx they have. AGE OF ULTRON is a respected summer hit, even though it may have been one of the dullest movies I have ever seen, it couldn’t even keep my son’s attention, and he’s a major fan of the AVENGERS.

JURASSIC WORLD has garnered some negative reviews, with people saying the horror dino redo is relying too much on CGI and not enough on a story.

That will not matter, however, when the chips are layed out.. it will also not be a bother to anyway who is sitting in a cooled air conditioned movie theater..

I recall back in 1993 when the original JURASSIC PARK came out. I was 13 and young, amazed with what I was seeing on the screen.. the movie changed my view at that time of what movies could be.. I was still on my summer of 89 high and BATMAN and let down by BATMAN RETURNS. But JURASSIC PARK was true epic box office magic.

I sense that despite the misgivings of the AP and other reviewers, that same ‘magic’ will return for countless kids around age 13 this summer. This weekend. This day.

JURASSIC WORLD looks like it’s set for a promising haul of cash. Staying power? Maybe not..
But it’s summer.
Anything can happen..

Virgil Runnels, aka “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes — WWE Hall of Famer, three-time NWA Champion and one of the most captivating and charismatic figures in sports entertainment history — passed away today at the age of 69..

He lived longer than many wrestling starts who preceeded him in death..

Rhodes was a fixture in wrestling for decades.. his prime time came with the WWE, THEN WWF..

Lately I have been listening to a number of wrestling podcasts including the Ric Flair WoooNation  show.  Getting nostalgic with each one more and more.
This death also showcases the changing era as the old guard passes away..

7 EARTHQUAKES OFF THE OREGON COAST IN ONE DAY..

No tsunamis.. no major action..
But major concerns, I’d sure say..

Scientists are quoted (http://www.kirotv.com/news/news/sizeable-earthquakes-hit-oregon-coast/nmSDs/) saying that these quakes are not a signal of anything larger to come–but I’d dare say the same people proclaiming there is nothing to fear are also the same people who say earthquake predictions cannot really be made..

Others would disagree.

And even if nothing larger is coming, it’s a concern when 7 shakers take place in 24 hours close to the Oregon coastline..

This is just a snippet of articles on Google News showcasing the amount of AP dispatches being picked up focusing on my little region in the woods lately.. The last remaining coal breaker in Pennsylvania is set to be demolished.. a little bit of a debate has surged within the coal region as to the merits of trashing the historical structure still standing after all this time.

I linked up a good video of a flyover the other day of the St. Nicholas Coal Breaker..

A few noteworthy things about this last massive piece of history to know:

It is a symbol of when coal was king, when barons placed their bets on the dusty underground that would be unearthed for profit.

From this breaker, coal was broken into various sized pieces–often young children were forced to take out the sharpest pieces–and it was loaded onto trains for nearby large cities.  Hence the name: Breaker boys. Those same breaker boys went to work clean but home filthy, and their lungs eventually become highly toxic filled with soot..

Regardless of the dangerous conditions met in the breaker, the coal region at one time employed over 180,000 people in the mining system.

And that was then>
This is now: A region vacant its spirit, a land that time often forgot.. spectacular and monster buildings, like this breaker, are vacant..

When this building comes down, with it comes hundreds of years of mining lure..

The AP says this:

The St. Nicholas Breaker once held the distinction as the largest in the world, the size of a city block and capable of processing more than 12,000 tons of anthracite each day. Shuttered for more than 50 years, it now blights an area whose economy never fully recovered after anthracite’s reign came to an end.

The reign truly did end.
And it was replaced by nothing.

Keep in mind at one time people traveled from NEW YORK CITY to shop at department stores in Mahanoy City, the home to this breaker. Mahanoy City is now falling into pieces, filled with hard core drugs, and an aging population whose homes go vacant after the inhabitant meets the mortal fate.

Coal was king.
Long live the coal region.
Falling soon: The breaker along with the souls of the boys were toiled and troubled their lives with the work of men..
