A hungry hungry hippo and lots more!

ZOO ANIMALS RELEASED INTO THE STREETS IN THE NATION OF GEORGIA AFTER FLOODING HITS.. Not on purpose..

Michael Birnbaum filed his dispatch with the WASHINGTON POST about the moment in strange history:

Massive flooding in Tbilisi killed at least three zookeepers and eight others Sunday, as a hippopotamus, a lion and wolves roamed the streets.

Portions of the central city were on lockdown as police tried to locate zoo animals that had escaped.

The story sounds humorous.. But there have already been almost a dozen people confirmed dead, though the article did not detail whether it was the flood that did it or the animals..

More from the POST:

“I can’t imagine this tragedy,” said Tbilisi Zoo spokeswoman Mzia Sharashidze. “Almost the whole zoo is underwater.”

She said tigers, hyenas and eight lions had disappeared, among many other animals. Six of 17 penguins were saved; the rest washed away. One crocodile was captured; the other was in sight of zoo workers, but they were unable to reach it as of midafternoon Sunday.

A great view from the Rock Bass Grill in Harrisburg tonight.. a good conversation with friends, a bit more about ringworm and MRSA than expected. But that is how strangeness rolls..
I hope your Saturday was as peaceful as mine.. Good evening, all.

Not a Christmas Coke commercial.

While this photo may not symbolize the sad and scared polar bear in climate change documentaries, it may be the better symbol of a changing global atmosphere. OR maybe the bears just found out they really liked the taste of something new..

According to the reports on the matter: Scientists are seemingly surprised and freaked as polar bears develop a taste for dolphin..

From the linked report authored by the AFP:

Norwegian scientists have seen polar bears eating dolphins in the Arctic for the first time ever and blame global warming for the bears expanding their diet.Polar bears feed mainly on seals but Jon Aars at the Norwegian Polar Institute has photographed dolphins being devoured by a bear and published his findings in the latest edition of Polar Research this month.“It is likely that new species are appearing in the diet of polar bears due to climate change because new species are finding their way north,” he told AFP.The first incident he documented was in April 2014 when his team came across a polar feeding on the carcasses of two white-beaked dolphins.Although dolphins are regularly seen in the Norwegian Arctic in the summer months when the ice has melted, they have never been observed during winter or spring when the sea is usually still covered in sheets of ice.

A suspected gunman who ambushed Dallas police headquarters Saturday morning was shot during a standoff and was later confirmed dead, police said.

SWAT snipers struck the suspect through the windshield of his van in the Dallas suburb of Hutchins during a tense ordeal in which no officers or civilians were hurt, Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters. The Dallas police tweeted Saturday afternoon that he was killed.

The suspect identified himself as James Boulware to police, although officers had not confirmed his identity. Brown said officers needed to check the suspect’s fingerprints once they were able to get into the van to verify his identity

FROM THE NHC:

The National Hurricane Center is continuing to monitor an area of disturbed weather in the northwest Caribbean for potential slow development over the next few days as it moves across the Yucatan Peninsula & into the southwestern Gulf of Mexico

This may not be what Texas would need if a storm would veer the way of locations where awful flooding happened only a bit ago..

Watching the area closely..

Hebron’s ‘Ghost Town’: What’s Life Like for the Last Boy on Shuhada Street?

Sort of a creepy read from Paul Goldman at NBC:

Every bike ride outside his home feels perilous to nine-year-old Yousef Rajabi.“The [Jewish] settlers harass me and I get death threats,” he told NBC News, referring to nearby residents. “They say to me that Palestinians should not live here.”

Yousef lives on Shuhada Street in Hebron, a once-bustling Palestinian thoroughfare that has been emptied of most of its original inhabitants. The street is Yousef’s playground — but one that is empty of all other children.

He and his mother, who are among just four Palestinian families to still live on the street which once featured hundreds of homes as well as 450 shops, are on the front line of the Israeli struggle to ensure Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank are safe from attack.

Some 330,000 Jews live in the West Bank, which Israel invaded in 1967 and Palestinians believe is an essential part of a future state.
