  • Fifty shades of not so great

Fifty shades of not so great

I am going to be clear. I am not a 50 SHADES OF GRAY fan, I have never read the book, and I have no plans, ever, to see the movie.
But I have been notified by my wife and another reader of THE HORROR REPORT that Charlie Hunnan has dropped out of the lead role of the film–and that is a pretty big deal. They say.

You can read the full story here if you so choose..

The only thing I can relate to in this matter is how much of a fan backlash occurred after Hunnan was chosen for the film–that I remember. It reminded me a little of the Ben Affleck anger when he was named BATMAN recently..

But Affleck has one up on Hunnan .. he didn’t drop out of the lead role. At this point.

Concerning Hunnan: We have been told, PR wise, that the drop out happened because of a busy TV schedule.

Now perhaps, those Affleck haters will have a rejuvenated sense of hope..
    Hunnan today? Batman tomorrow..?

  • Halloween parenting..

    Halloween parenting..

A few years ago I would happily carve my pumpkins to look like that in the opening scene of HALLOWEEN. Now I make them look like Angry Birds. This year, the hunt is on: We are desperately trying to find a Ninja Turtles Donetalla costume that fits Ayden.

Parenting is surely fun.. It changes everything.
    Especially Halloween..

  • Strange traditions of yesterday

    Strange traditions of yesterday

Our modern world may call this creepy and weird.
But think of the times it happened in.. kids weren’t living very long due to disease and other issues. A big family of 10 could be taken down to much less due to some type of medical ailment. The photos, though taken so long ago, still reverberate with some bit of ‘strange’ quality.. but I find it to be just an example of how we, the living, deal with death. Maybe this does not happen now, but for it’s time, it was a touching tradition that was meant to honor the people taken too soon from life.
Perhaps these photos are not for the squeamish..
  • EBT cards are working again..

    EBT cards are working again..

….but how long would it take before social unrest if they never did?

I asked this question of myself a number of times yesterday. If you didn’t know, the EBT system was down in much of the United States. The technological glitch stopped people from using their food stamps to purchase items at grocery stories across the nation.

I heard one person asking, “Is this just a dry run?”
And that is a fascinating question, given the possibility that if our government can’t agree on anything, October 17 may be a very bad day in the markets, and the global economy.

That’s the date we default.. on debt.. owned by lots of other nations.

    China will be seeing red!

Nonetheless, the prospects of permanent inactive EBT cards–and social security checks that stop being sent–are possible Armageddon-like scenarios that the United States faces. About 49% of people live in a household that receives some type of government assistance.  that can be minor, to major.

I have long held a belief that the people on welfare and other programs, though maligned and used as political fodder during election campaigns to divide voters, don’t pose much of a threat to anyone.. As a matter of fact, numbers back up my way of thinking: The government spends MORE on corporate welfare and programs than it does on the social end of it.. fat cats stay fat while stray cats pick at the garbage .. The same goes for humans, where big companies can achieve greatness with the held of a long arm  of Uncle Sam, while social programs seem to simply keep people in the darkness of a permanent lower class ..

But all of that aside, the prospects of the food stamp program going down …right now.. are interesting.
That comment, ‘was it a dry run,’ keeps sticking in my mind like glue.
I don’t propose any form  of conspiracy theory that the government would use some sort of weird experiment to see how people would react (now they’d never do such things, right?), but it’s surely interesting timing. The week coming up when the system may actually halt, and this weekend a little 17-state issue for people trying to use their cards..

Corporations that rely on government have their safety net already. They bought it–often with money from the government.. but those relying on a weekly check or a pittance of money to live? They don’t have a safety net.. Their net is tattered and filled with holes.. filled with pitfalls. What would happen if the social security checks stopped? The EBT cards? The rest of it that 49% of Americans rely on? Some others have speculated on what would happen..  I will let them do the speculation. I am just asking questions–questions based on what we saw yesterday with the system crash.

And if you don’t believe me, or other non-experts in the field of anything, rely a little on the good word of CNBC. They know their money. And they also wrote about 7 doomsday default scenarios that the United States could experience should the house of cards fall down..

So was it a dry run?
    Probably not.
But I sure bet the powers that be, whomever they be, are studying the outcome of just a few hours of a system crash to see what would happen if one of those seven disasters played out in a post October 17 world…

  • A re-prediction: John Hogue still will not be back on Art Bell’s DARK MATTER

A re-prediction: John Hogue still will not be back on Art Bell’s DARK MATTER

A day after Nostrodamus expert John Hogue appeared on Art Bell’s DARK MATTER, the HORROR REPORT jokingly wrote that he would not be back on again. Hogue took to Facebook to immediately criticize Bell and argue that he wasn’t permitted to answer questions.

Since then, tempers have not decreased.. just yesterday, Hogue again went to Facebook to promote a new article he wrote for his website detailing his wide variety of criticisms for Bell’s interview style.. Among the things Hogue wrote,

“Tuesday night was the culmination of a growing pattern of escalating concern. Starting around the turn of the century I noted in our shows a growing grumpiness and even episodes of outright bullying coming from Art Bell. In addition, in my view, his otherwise brilliant sense of timing, and guiding of his shows began to lapse. I increasingly found him asking me to answer a complicated question, then, just a few words in, he’d step on my lines, interrupting. All of this is documented and archived, by the way, if you want to check it. Just listen to our shows starting from around September 1998 through 2007. You might detect how Art strayed more and more over the years from arguing to being argumentative with me.

Yes, Bell was interrupting him. Because really, Hogue never stops talking..

Not to be outdone, Art Bell himself took to Facebook to address the post-MATTER behavior displayed by Hogue. Bell said, statement in full:

John Hogue has decided to blast me on his Facebook page AFTER the show was over, saying among other things that I was unprofessional and did not let him respond to profound questions with profound and never ending answers. You also kept saying “read my book” again and again. Yes, I did try to move you along for the sake of our listener’s. If you felt slighted you could have sent me a private message or even called, perhaps a message here on Facebook because you are in my friends list, or responded on the spot since you were there on air, but no, none of that. Not my idea of professional but alright, since you went public I guess this is the correct forum to respond in.

I am sorry you felt hurried John but my view is that if you want a Host who will introduce you and then take a nap I know you know where to find him, not my idea of professional, or perhaps your own show where you can profoundly drone on till the cows come home. I know when a Guest is so interesting that I should just keep my mouth shut and do many times. That was not one of those nights.

DM is real Radio and I have no intention of allowing it to be hijacked by Guest’s who are unwilling to have a dialog. If you want to make a speech please run for office. I try very hard to be polite to my Guest’s but I also have a responsibility to my listener’s if required, and it was. Sorry your feelings were hurt.

Once again, I stand by the earlier prediction made: Hogue Will Not Be ON Dark Matter again..

Sorry John, but you made your choice. Coast to Coast until it’s Toast. It’s Snores for the Bore! There’s no place like home, Hogue.
