AILES OUT AT FOX!! BUT IN AT 21ST

Amazing news from the media world..
Roger Ailes, the dominant factor in journalism and entertainment for decades, is out..

A statement from 21st Century Fox:

New York, NY – July 21, 2016 – 21st Century Fox today announced that Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman of Fox Television Stations, has resigned from his role effective immediately.

Rupert Murdoch will assume the role of Chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.

Rupert Murdoch, Executive Chairman, 21st Century Fox, said:

“Roger Ailes has made a remarkable contribution to our company and our country.  Roger shared my vision of a great and independent television organization and executed it brilliantly over 20 great years.

Fox News has given voice to those who were ignored by the traditional networks and has been one of the great commercial success stories of modern media.

It is always difficult to create a channel or a publication from the ground up and against seemingly entrenched monopolies.  To lead a flourishing news channel, and to build Fox Business, Roger has defied the odds.

His grasp of policy and his ability to make profoundly important issues accessible to a broader audience stand in stark contrast to the self-serving elitism that characterizes far too much of the media.

I am personally committed to ensuring that Fox News remains a distinctive, powerful voice.  Our nation needs a robust Fox News to resonate from every corner of the country.

To ensure continuity of all that is best about Fox News and what it stands for, I will take over as Chairman and acting CEO, with the support of our existing management team under Bill Shine, Jay Wallace and Mark Kranz.”

Lachlan Murdoch and James Murdoch, 21st Century Fox’s Executive Chairman, and CEO, respectively, said:

“We join our father in recognizing Roger’s remarkable contributions to our company.  Our talented Fox News and Fox Business colleagues, up and down the organization and on both sides of the camera, have built something that continues to redefine the cable news experience for millions of viewers. We are enormously proud of their accomplishments. For them, as well as for our colleagues across our entire organization, we continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect.  We take seriously our responsibility to uphold these traditional, long-standing values of our company.”

DRUDGE running an exclusive: The letter to Murdoch..

Anchors in Cleveland for FOX news now talking — without PR .. The truth will not come out?

    AP REPORTS:

Ailes’ downfall began with the July 6 filing of a lawsuit by Gretchen Carlson, who charged that he sabotaged her career because she refused his suggestions for sex and had complained about a pervasive atmosphere of sexual harassment at Fox. Ailes has denied the charges, but 21st Century Fox hired a law firm to investigate.

Several Fox employees jumped to Ailes’ defense, but notably not Megyn Kelly, one of Fox’s top personalities. In rapid succession, it was reported that Kelly was among other women who had told investigators about harassment – again denied by Ailes – and that corporate heads Rupert Murdoch and his sons, James and Lachlan, determined that Ailes had to go. The company has no plans to make results of its investigation public.

  • The Trump Show

    The Trump Show

    This week has been surreal.
The saga that was the Republican convention.. the plagiarized speech. The sideshow melodrama when Alaska tried starting a trend to extinguish Trump.. The Ted Cruz refusing to endorse him.. the audience turning.. Trump showing up during the contagious outcry against “Lyin Ted.”  Only hours before the Cruz Waterloo: He was speaking to people outside the convention hall when Trump’s private jet circled around Cruz and the audience of supporters. Clearly intentional.

This is a reality show convention. This is a reality show year.

I know this has all been said before by high paid political pointy head prognosticators. But there’s more to the story, in my personal opinion..

It feels all staged a bit too well.

Donald Trump has worked closely with promoters of boxing. He was involved with some of the biggest promotions ever with Don King. He was also an honorary member of World Wrestling Entertainment when he was being threatened to have his head shaved by Vince McMahon. The tables were turned and Trump shaved the head of the WWE owner.

So just imagine the theme.. Trump’s speech writer says she’s going to resign over Melania and the Donald says no.. Lyin Ted’s never ending battle with Trump is like a heel’s fight in wrestling.. the same themes apply. NO bodyslams or chairs, but lots of quits on Twitter and insults on the TEE VEE.. Along with it: A media glare. Sure, lots of people are talking up the ‘disaster’ that the GOP convention was. Some commentators are saying ‘nothing went right.’

But it did. Ratings did. Pundits had a week (24 hours per day on some networks) to opine about the happenings. This as been a success for someone who thrives on attention and free advertising. This is the type of week — the only type of week — that Donald Trump would incur.

Could we be seeing a preview of how American politics would be during a Trump Administration? Or are we just seeing the last vestiges of the Trump routine of bucking the system that fights against him?

This has been a wild week.
But something deep down feels like it was meant to be..

  • Say hello to STRANGER THINGS

    Say hello to STRANGER THINGS

I have nothing but praise for the NETFLIX series STRANGER THINGS..

Additionally, I can say nothing but positive things about Winona Ryder playing a mother in confusion and grief names Joyce.. or David Harbour’s role as Chief Hopper, trying to find truth.. Charlie Heaton as Jonathon is perfect, as is Finn Wolfhard and Millie Brown as the chief child monster hunters. As a matter of fact, the entire cast is perfectly fine.

I will first say, I am not completely done with all of the shows yet. I have been purposely watching them slowly, just to enjoy each episode the best I can. I did notice, as I watch the shows,  how quick the hour goes each time.

You probably do not want spoilers. Neither do I. As a matter of fact,  plan on spacing the last few episodes out the best I can and maybe going back in a few weeks and watching them all over again.  I have even seen people online saying that they are signing up for NETFLIX for the sole reason of watching STRANGER THINGS.

    Why does it work?

I read countless articles now where authors are going through each portion of the story, the acting, the set, or the music, and comparing it to movies from the 1980s that did work. After all, STRANGER THINGS is set in 1983. The music of the era is complete in the shows—as are brilliant product placements with the old insignias and logos from yesteryear.  And yes, homages to Stephen Spielberg and Stephen King help advance the storyline. The entire series, so far for me, felt like a strange cross between ET and The GOONIES, and then every now and then Freddy Kreuger from Nightmare on Elm Street 3 the Dream Warriors shows up.   The amazing part: Regardless of what inspiration STRANGER THINGS writers and producers had when they created the series, one thing is clear: It stands alone and is epic on its own.

Undoubtedly, you can conceive of the target audience fairly quickly. Frankly, it’s people my age, 35ish. People who remember seeing Ronald Reagan on TV at night when one of their few channels featuring cartoons would be taken over by real world events. People who recall the tail end of the Cold War. Maybe a few nuclear bomb duck and cover drills under wooden desks at school, as well. People who remember a time before the Internet, and people who like everyone else have been changed by the Internet. And yes, people who tucked away their secret desire to play DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS .. Come out of the closet now. You can be proud that you have such a true group of friends on STRANGER THINGS.

The musical score of STRANGER THINGS, pop songs and just background tones combined, gives you a nostalgic and almost gleeful feel. That is how music was done in the 80s.  The John Carpenter style.  The same musical arrangement helped greatly with the movie IT FOLLOWS. And Stranger Things follows the mold.. it works..

    It all works.

    Just fine.

I will shower praise on STRANGER THINGS to anyone who asks. This is what science fiction and horror should be.. it’s how it can work, how it can utilize real life and combine it with human emotion to tell a story. Adding to the story of love and parenting and coming of age themes: The monster. The unknown monster created by the elite behind gates with barbed wires.. We are afraid of that, after all. We know the most powerful answer to no one. We know that, too often, their creations get out of hand. The monsters of Maple Street can often by ourselves. Or they can be true monsters, unhinged and unregulated by the fools who create them.

STRANGER THINGS deserves a second season. And third. And fourth.

You’d be foolish to avoid this series.

  • Political oddities and Trump strangeness

    Political oddities and Trump strangeness

We pay attention to politics when it gets weird.

    This week, it is..

Donald J. Trump is, as the time I write this, being nominated by the GOP to be the nominee in November. That in itself may be as strange as things go — although the HORROR REPORT did accurately get that right during the 2015 predictions for ’16 .. I thought Rubio would be the VP. Never thought Pence.

But speaking of Mike Pence, that is where some weirdness of the week begins.

Early this week before the Republican Convention began in Ohio, a bit of high strangeness greeted the internet. A photo of Mike Pence and his family circulated around the world.. and with it, confusion. Somehow, his daughter vanished.. Look close: She’s gone. At least in the mirror.

    pence

His daughter Charlotte appears to make no reflection in the mirror behind them.

Pence and his wife Karen’s reflections can both be seen, but Charlotte’s is non-existent.

Perhaps even weirder: The boy in red who can be seen in the reflection.. but NOT at the table.

This may be evidence, fine folks, of some Photoshopping .. Campaigns do it. Why? Maybe he wanted to make sure his family image was secure.. And without a daughter that would be tough. Perhaps a campaign added in a family member or two..

    trumpentrance

The weirdness got weirder last night with the entrance of Donald Trump.. it looked like a rock concert. The only problem with that was that his wife, Melania, gave a speech in which a large portion was hijacked from the 2008 Michelle Obama Democratic Convention .. And with it, an entire day of backtracking, embarrassment, defensive statements, and calls for speech writer terminations.  Networks knew almost immediately that the speech was plagiarized..  My conspiracy theory: It was on purpose. Some speech writer tried making Melanie and Donald J. look bad.. After all, only hours earlier, some tried pushing an anti-Trump vote on the convention floor..

And finally tonight at the hour, the DRUDGE REPORT is talking about drama at FOX NEWS.. Drudge reports this:

'FOX & FRIENDS' AND 'THE FIVE' ANCHORS, GRETA, O'REILLY, HANNITY, SHEP SMITH SET TALENT MEETING; DISCUSS LEAVING NETWORK IN SHOW OF SUPPORT FOR ROGER... DEVELOPING...

Dozens of Wrestlers Sue WWE Over Neurological Injuries More
World Wrestling Entertainment Inc was sued on Monday by Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka and dozens of other retired male and female wrestlers seeking to hold it responsible for neurological injuries they claimed to suffer by participating in its bouts.

The complaint was filed on behalf of more than 50 plaintiffs who have performed with WWE or its predecessors since the 1970s, including Joseph “Road Warrior Animal” Laurinaitis and Paul “Mr. Wonderful” Orndorff.

And it goes on from there to also accuse Vince Mcmahan of classifying wrestlers incorrectly as independent contractors instead of employees to avoid the protections that laws could then give the wrestlers if classified correctly..

  • One of the greatest things in years: Stranger Things on Netflix

One of the greatest things in years: Stranger Things on Netflix

One of the greatest things I have ever seen (and I have only seen one of the 8 episodes so far) is the original NETFLIX show STRANGER THINGS..

There are so many things to speak of.. the 1980s nostalgic feel (especially for people like me who were incarnated in then Reagan era) .. The throwback quality to a Speilberg or Stephen King story.. the mystery of Will Byers and the town of Hawkins, Indiana coupled with some amazing acting and character development..

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o7_r1_500

The music of the series, besides featuring some pop hits of the 80s, also sounds a lot like the score from IT FOLLOWS. The set designs and color is true to the 80s and is similar to the movie HOUSE OF THE DEVIL, which was also set in the 1980s but made in the modern era..

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o2_r1_500

Thus far, only one show into the season,  I have nothing but praise for STRANGER THINGS and honestly can’t wait until my next free hour to continue the ‘binge.’  A binge on shows between work, parenting, and soccer practice can get rough.

    tumblr_oafj2iUsG81vvheq3o6_r1_500

Spoilers will abound if you read certain reviews.. I will not spoil anything, but instead just argue that you need to join in the fun and get watching this series.. I implored friends and family. And now you, my readers..

  • THE GHOSTLY CRASH SITE PHOTO

    THE GHOSTLY CRASH SITE PHOTO

By now you have seen the image of a ‘ghost’ escaping the body of a motorcycle crash victim.. Undoubtedly someone on your Facebook timeline posted it.. someone on your Tumblr reading list. Or maybe just you..

Truck driver Saul Vazquez says he rolled down his window before snapping the scene along Highway 15 near Stanton, Kentucky, on Tuesday afternoon..

The crash victim died at the hospital later..

The photo then was shared hundreds of thousands of times and was featured even on national news broadcasts.. The little speck of white appears to look like that of a body..

Some say it’s fake. Fraud.. photoshopped… Others give credence to the possibility that the little white part of the image is that of an escaping soul.

The family of the victim spoke to PEOPLE magazine and they also say it’s possible.

If the image is just a trick of the camera or glare, so be it. But if it gives comfort to a grieving family in the aftermath of death? Allow it.

  • Cops shot in Baton Rouge

    Cops shot in Baton Rouge

    CNN reporting:

A man with a gun opened fire on police officers in Baton Rouge on Sunday, injuring at least seven — including three who are feared dead, an official said.
Police received a call of “suspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle,” a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNN. When police arrived, the man opened fire.
The remaining officers are hospitalized in critical condition, the source said.
The victims were from Baton Rouge Police Department as well as East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, another official said.

Fears today that events of this nature will continue..
Fears on the eve of the Republican convention in Cleveland..

    Developing..

This is a heartbreaking photo of the aftermath of…

This is a heartbreaking photo of the aftermath of the Bastille Day attack in France yesterday..

A photographer for the AFP describes the scene

Nice is a tourist magnet, not just for foreigners, but for the French as well. There were huge crowds here for the July 14th celebrations.

I am a journalist and we journalists knew there was a risk of this. It was in the back of our minds throughout the weeks of the Euro tournament. But the Euro went off without a hitch and now I found myself in Nice – touristy, beachy, laid-back Nice! – and there were bodies everywhere.

Some were tiny bodies. Kids. Their parents must have been so happy to give their kids a treat and bring them to see the fireworks on July 14th. And that’s the heartbreak of it all…“
