BLAST FROM THE PAST: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM

The following was originally posted on the HORROR REPORT on July 25, 2002 at 9pm:
    [youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0PHWKRFgZ0]

    March on, march on!
    Triumphant.
    Let the music roll
The bombs bursting in the air of the hateful
The tide running low and then high, bringing in pond of the ocean on the rivers of the barge
The maiden is singing through the window at her bride to be.
The widow is singing at the graveyard of her husband that was.
    The music rolls on.
    March on, March on!
    Louder, louder!
    Swiftly

Suddenly, the perils of the future become apparent.
Marching down the aisles of the school and college.
The grade school has no boundary, but the high school has pain.
The college has promise but the reality has no gain.
    The music rolls on. Slower.
    Triumphant none the less.
Chills running down the spines of parents in their seats and in their heavens and hells.
    MORE.
    Here they come.
Students and gang members and drunks and drug addicts.
Ready to march into the uncertainties of life. More and more.
    MORE come down.
    More music rolls.
    They take their seats.
Surrounded by God and Satan all on one chair.
Chills moving through the bodies of those even without feelings.
A hush comes over the crowd….
Crack open a cold one. Light up a hot one.
The music says the days are numbered
    The time is over.
It keeps playing. Rewind. Fast Forward, it doesn’t leave your head.
Blood flowing, grandmothers growing. All in the night. All at the drop of a hat.

The bottle gone empty. The blunt blunted. The police are here.
Students and young adults don’t know where they are because their parents never gave them
direction. Their parents never gave them direction because they lost the path.
The battles that raged were won by no one and fought by everyone. We are lost. We lost. They lost us, now we can’t even find a war to fight.
No one wants to fight a war that is un-winnable

But the march goes on. The beat continues. More and more walk down that aisle for their fateful visit with the hand of time. It gets no easier, does it? IT gets only more painful.
The hand extended, the face stony. The music greets them like a violent storm in the night.
They need to listen but they dread to hear it. The beat marches on with their feet. Platform and leather soled, their hats and tassels turn. They’re finished.

On with life! On with death!
On with hate! And on with crystal meth. It doesn’t get any better, does it? Civil marches and freedoms goodbye. Holy alliances oout the window.
Fear and loathing sense their home. Something has gotten into our blood. We are bloodless?

The music rolls on. Coming to a conclusion.; Wind blows and doors slam.
What the hell are we even doing this for?
We’re dreaming the impossible, nightmare visions of reality in our lives.
All this and the march keeps marching, the beat keeps beating.

    All this in a midsummer night’s dream…

  • Did Bernie feel the Bern?

    Did Bernie feel the Bern?

Some call me a conspiracy theorist. I am not. I am an analyst. I enjoy the collection of strange and curious theories … so often the truth penetrates.. but just as often the misfits amongst us get a bit too wild in their approach.

I will offer the next portion of this post and allow you to make your decision and rational conclusion accordingly..

The Republican and Democratic conventions have ended. People can have their TEE VEEs back again.. Children can watch in comfort knowing neither side will begin a hostile takeover of the summertime 10pm hour..

The conventions were weird, though, weren’t they?
Perhaps weirdest: Watching Bernie Sanders the entire four days of the Hillary Clinton coronation.. something seemed odd, didn’t it? The way he went from being all in to being all out? The way he blindsided his fans and most of them became detractors with his ‘endorsement’ of Hillary Clinton..

According to some — and here is the fun little conspiracy theory — Bernie Sanders was physically beaten during the convention ..

    You read that right..

Here’s the theory: He loses the nomination and his secret service detail is retracted. No more high powered security. Just a normal Senator. He appears fine one day. The next, he has a large bloody gash on his face. The last day of the convention: he leaves the Democratic party and becomes an Independent again.

Mixed in that theory is some truth..
He did leave the Democrats.. but that is not too far reaching of an issue since he was not a Democratic before, and became one to run in the primary. He also did have secret service removed since he’s a has been of the presidential cycle. The gash on his face? There was one..

    The beating?

That is the running theory among some Bernie Sanders fans.

A post on Hal Turner’s website details the supposed beating. And here is an actual Facebook posting to the Bernie Sanders page that details what someone says he heard concerning the gash:

    coat2o3wcaaypea

Though some say conspiracy others will mock .. One comment on the conspiracy theory story I read offers up some non conspiracy. And then a new conspiracy:

If you look closely at the photo in the upper right hand corner it looks like there’s a dark mole there. Someone called Jane Sanders and asked about this and was told that the mole was looking suspicious for cancer so he went and had it removed. As for leaving the Democratic party- why in the world would he stay in a party that treated him like they did?

    The truth!?

I bet it’s simple.. a dull razor. A dark room. A shaky Communist senior citizen.
    Case closed?
Or …. a gash with a threat of cement shoes from goons…?

    You be the judge.

  • Speak-a the Zika: Fear and loathing in Florida

Speak-a the Zika: Fear and loathing in Florida

A few people asked me yesterday: Did you hear about Florida? I was taken aback.. As I did not ‘hear about Florida.’ I thought.. did the state finally sink? Did a shock hurricane form out of no where and strike it?  Did it secede from the union?

    None of the above.
Instead, the people told me as they almost trembled in fear, “There is an outbreak of Zika.”

    Cue the frightening music.

I want to first begin by asking: Don’t we have plenty enough to be frightened of without being fearful of a disease that we can’t see? I get scared of fevers. And the flu.. Quite honestly, I am a terrible hypochondriac and so often that personality disorder leads to extreme disorder of my personal functions! But on this note, on this matter *(Zika)*, I am not finding myself to be the fearful nilly that so many others have become.

In just ten months, the Brazil outbreak of Zika has now spread to Florida.. And yesterday, all of this hubbub being referred to by individuals asking if you ‘heard about Florida,’ the dreadful confirmation came: Zika has now spread in the United States for the first time. In the Wynwood neighborhood to be exact.

    Zika detected

But here is the best takeaway from this entire thing, as reported by Bloomberg in the body of text beneath it’s frightful and dire headline:

Because symptoms are typically mild, it’s possible that the disease has already spread through mosquitoes in other places or that the infection is more widely present and transmitting in Florida without health officials being able to confirm it. None of the four Florida patients exhibited symptoms.

“There may well be more cases that we’re not aware of right now because most people infected with Zika don’t have symptoms,” Frieden said Friday.

Most people don’t even know they have Zika. They will never know.. there aren’t symptoms..

    But we fear.

    # # #

A summer does not seem complete without a heat wave, a blockbuster film or two, and a stark warning about impending doom from government health officials that gets propagated by media conglomerates looking for a rise of fear and a rise in ratings. The convention coverage just must not be enough.. spread the Zika..

But speaka the Zika, there are also a few facts worth noting — besides the knowledge that the vast majority of people will never even get a symptom… The virus was isolated in 1947 in a monkey in the Zika Forest in Uganda. Researchers were studying the transmission of yellow fever, when they found the new virus in a rhesus monkey.. Its first appearance in humans was in 1952 in Uganda and Tanzania, and the first large outbreak of disease was in 2007 on Yap Island in Micronesia.

According to the CDC, only about 20 percent of infected people have any symptoms at all, and the few who become sick usually have a mild fever, sometimes diarrhea or a rash, headache or muscle pain.. I would dare say more people get these types of symptoms from regular fast food consumption than they do from Zika..

The real fear this year is about those not yet here: The babies.

According to the latest rash of news about Zika over the past 15 months, the mosquito disease is leading to an uptick in congenital microcephaly..  Microcephaly is a condition where a baby’s head is much smaller than expected. During pregnancy, a baby’s head grows because the baby’s brain grows. Microcephaly can occur because a baby’s brain has not developed properly during pregnancy or has stopped growing after birth, which results in a smaller head size. Microcephaly can be an isolated condition, meaning that it can occur with no other major birth defects, or it can occur in combination with other major birth defects…

The troubling aspect to this entire thing has always been the lack of a sharp and distinct conclusion that Zika itself has caused the Brazil microcephaly surge.. There is caution, of course.. The numbers are still a bit astounding, however. Since 2015 in Brazil, Zika seemingly spread rapidly and so did an increase in microcephaly.. The New England JOURNAL OF MEDICINE puts a very factual background on the Brazil outbreak for those who have some time to read it

My least favorite website (least favorite because it makes a paranoid hypo like me more parnaoid) is WebMD. They explain Zika as this:

Congenital microcephaly is passed down through families. It’s caused by defects in genes linked to early brain development. Microcephaly is often seen in children with Down syndrome and genetic disorders.

Acquired microcephaly means the child’s brain came into contact with something that harmed its growth and development. Some things that may do this while a baby is in the womb are:

    Possibly Zika.

But let me ask this question.. if Zika has been around for decades.. if Zika has been in these same nations for as long as we know it has been.. why has congenital microcephaly just been known over the past 15 months to have been caused by it? And if so many MORE people could have been exposed and had Zika without knowing it —according to all health professionals — why aren’t MORE children being born with symptoms of microcephaly? Why is it still rare if Zika may not be?

On that note, I will leave this post with one a video.. if you have a spare 28 minutes, try it out.. One of my favorite YouTube channels if from Dr. John Bergman.. a few months ago he tackled Zika. And he put some needful common sense behind the fear..

  • Campaign 2016: From the desk of Art Bell

Campaign 2016: From the desk of Art Bell

Though he is not on the air right now hosting MIDNIGHT IN THE DESERT, the talk show legend is active on Facebook.. A few posts recently have shown his allegiance to Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton in the campaign for president in 2016..

A few days ago, Bell used the Facebook platform to write two separate posts: One simply said “Clinton” and the other “Trump.”  The outrage to BOTH was almost immediate.

The reaction caused Bell to write this on July 24, 2016:

Experiment concluded: as you can clearly see below I simply made two posts without comment, one called Trump and one called Clinton. The results confirmed what I expected. Mostly they were filled with hate directed at me with people thinking it meant I was in support of one or the other, further hate was directed at the Candidates and of course other people who posted. What do you think this means about us?

    Art

As the DNC convention continues and Donald Trump’s fiery rhetoric does as well, Art Bell went further in some commentary tonight on the social network:

Does the Democrat party think Trump can turn back time like Direct TV? They keep saying he is calling for the Russians to hack the 30,000+ Emails that Hillary deleted, that Felony already left the station. Come on Media, get it right.

    Art

Longtime listeners dating back to the Coast days will recall Art as a renegade libertarian, chain smoking antidisestablishmentarian.. hellbent on questioning the system and authority.  He also was not a Clinton fan during the 90s.. the contempt seemingly has continued through this year’s election, with Bell taking a positive position on the Trump candidacy since early in 2015 when the billionaire announced he was running for the White House.

The interesting part of the post today came in the comments. Those following the Art Bell saga know he was sick as of late, with two hospital stays in Nevada. Bell said this in a comment to his own post tonight:

Well I had a very close call, very nearly had answers to the biggest questions I always asked on air. I am trying to get stronger but I had very serious pneumonia, could not get air, now trying to get stronger, it will not be fast

He was close to death… Those ‘big questions’ he always talked about on air? Death and what happens after.

The hope and prayer of fans is that he returns at least in part to the Heather Wade hosted Midnight in the Desert.

    Especially during an election.
Especially THIS election.. at this time.

Dave Schrader had a great Darkness Radio show last night for his weekly true crime Tuesday series .. The subject: Who took Johnny Gosch with the guest being the documentarian who created ‘Who Took Johnny.’

This is an immensely important ‘cold case’ .. It’s only cold in the eyes of some who lost interest as the years went on since Gosch’s abduction in the early 80s..

I was amazed and happy to hear Schrader taking about the Franklin Credit Union cover up, the links to global high powered pedophile groups, and the fight that Noreen Gosch never gave up.

I have been an avid follower of this story for years. If you’re just beginning, start by listening to the Podcast on iTunes of this Darkness Radio from last night, (7/26/16) and go from there.. Still existent on YouTube: Watch the Franklin Credit Union cover up documentary–something that was going to air in the 90s but at the last minute not permitted on American television. And while you’re at it check out Noreen Gosch’s website .. Then decide for yourself and take any and all precautions to secure your family appropriately.

  • The artificial horror movie

    The artificial horror movie

If you thought the future of AI was still to come, brace yourself for this..

Artificial intelligence writes ‘perfect’ horror script, seeks crowdfunding

    EW reports,

Impossible Things, an independent horror film project from Greenlight Essentials’ Jack Zhang, was reportedly produced (in part) by an augmented intelligence software tool which analyzes audience response data to help writers craft plot points that connect with viewer demand. The result is Impossible Things, a project billed by its creators as “the scariest and creepiest horror film out there.” The software co-wrote the film’s script.

AI also helped the filmmakers target a calculated demographic by packing a “specific” trailer with key scenes and developing “perfect” plot twists for Impossible Things’ plot, which tells the story of a grieving mother who, after the death of her young daughter, succumbs to a sever case of supernaturally-induced insanity.

….and really… could it be much worse than some of the rubbish written and produced by Hollywood today in the horror market?

  • A 20th century ‘psychic’ dead at 53

    A 20th century ‘psychic’ dead at 53

You don’t know her as Youree Dell Harris, but you know her as Miss Cleo.. Today the world found out that the famed would be could be isn’t psychic from TV commercials died at the young age of 53..

She was famous in the 1990s with her “call me now” tagline.. I recall her as I grew up on late night TV… the wee hours of the night for me were filled with many things. And at many points, the background noise of my youth was this woman’s voice..

As the New York TIMES reports.

But her fame also led to questions about her past. In 2002, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer published an investigation that revealed she had a list of aliases and a longer list of former colleagues on the local theater scene who said they had been cheated out of money and questioned her Jamaican background.

“She had no Jamaican accent — she was born and raised in L.A.,” a former cast mate told the paper. (A copy of a birth certificate posted by BuzzFeed in 2013 showed that Ms. Harris was indeed born in Los Angeles on Aug. 12, 1962.) Information on her survivors was not immediately available.

In 2002, the Psychic Readers Network and Access Resource Services were the subject of a federal lawsuit that ordered the companies to forgive $500 million in customer fees. The networks agreed to stop selling their services over the phone, and, according to the Federal Trade Commission, the companies agreed to pay a $5 million fine.

And with that, the star that was Miss Cleo failed to shine bright at night.

What makes me sad is that she was not Miss Cleo. She was a human being.

And today Harris died of cancer.

  • STAR TREK rules, LIGHTS OUT surges, GHOSTBUSTERS slumps

STAR TREK rules, LIGHTS OUT surges, GHOSTBUSTERS slumps

Initial predictions were that James Wan’s LIGHTS OUT was going to read $16 mil for the final weekend tally.. those numbers now seem low. A great Friday night is pushing the movie into $21 mil territory.. The horror flick inspired by the short YouTube classic a few years ago is exactly what a late summer box office

    Meanwhile, GHOSTBUSTERS is plunging ..

The number one film of the weekend appears to be STAR TREK BEYOND with a predicted $56 mil — the movie marketing was smart, saying it was a great STAR TREK movie but also just a plain out great movie.

Meanwhile, ICE AGE COLLISION COURSE and THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS are both strong..

Fighting for fourth: GHOSTBUSTERS and LIGHTS OUT ..

    DEVELOPING..

  • LIGHTS OUT review wrap

    LIGHTS OUT review wrap

LIGHTS OUT is out .. the long awaited movie based off the short film that became a hit online a few years ago about a monster in a hallway. It is a James Wan production..

A few reviews worth noting on a notable horror 2016 summer film..

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY gives a B-  but also laments: “Suffice it to say that the mental health aspect of the story is not treated with respect, but rather as a simple plot device, to be used and discarded like so many shattered lightbulbs. In a culture that already doesn’t do well by victims of mental illness, it’s disappointing, and takes a lot of wind from Lights Out’s sails”

Chicago SUN TIMES (always miss Roger Ebert when I see Roeper) opines:  “Awards committees rarely honor work in this genre, but Maria Bello deserves supporting actress consideration for her work as Sophie, the mother of a grown daughter named Rebecca (Teresa Palmer in a stellar performance) and Rebecca’s 10-year-old stepbrother, Martin (good work by Gabriel Bateman).”  A four star review

LA TIMES approves: Mercifully, this isn’t a movie about moving into the sort of dubious piece of real estate that might as well have a “Beware of Ghost” sign hanging out front. It’s about what happens when our most cherished and familiar spaces no longer feel safe — not just because of the evil that has moved in but also because of the good that has long since vacated the premises.

The film is currently receiving a 82% rating on ROTTEN TOMATOES.. Already before the movie even hits Friday night, there is chatter galore of a potential sequel..

LIGHTS OUT will be featured under the darkened lights of 2818 theaters.

But it also goes against ICE AGE COLLISION COURSE on almost 4000 screens..  As does STAR TREK. A big weekend for movies as the mid summer slumber sets in..

Depending on when In get to the movies and with who, either I will see LIGHTS OUT this weekend or my son will win the battle by default and we will be watching ICE AGE..
