After the gunshots began the U.S. Secret Service engaged with the suspect and fired at the person, according to two senior officials briefed on the matter.
Those officials say that there doesn’t appear to be any injuries to Secret Service agents..
The Secret Service said on X it was aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW and is “working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground.”

A person approached the checkpoint at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue near the White House, pulled a gun out of his bag and started shooting at officers, according to a Secret Service statement posted on social media. Officers returned fire and shot the suspect, the agency said.
A bystander was also struck by gunfire, but it was not clear how badly the person was hurt, according to a separate Secret Service statement cited by multiple news outlets. The statement said it was not clear who fired the shot that hit the bystander.
It’s been getting reported for a few days now that a cruise ship in the Atlantic has what appears to be a Hantavirus infection outbreak, with some passengers sick and three people dead from the fatal and often incurable disease.
There’s a lot of speculation right now about whether this particular strain is transmissible from person to person. Some strains are… some aren’t. At this point, it’s still unclear whether what’s happening on board is spreading between passengers or if it originated from exposure to vermin.
Either way, what’s unfolding is deeply unsettling. This floating environment—already isolated by nature—has essentially turned into a petri dish in the middle of the ocean, with nowhere to go and no immediate resolution in sight.

Jake Rosmarin, a travel influencer from Boston with more than 44,000 Instagram followers, shared a tearful video from onboard after the MV Hondius was reportedly refused permission to dock in Cape Verde.
“I am currently on board the MV Hondius. What’s happening right now is very real for all of us here,” he said through tears.

According to what is known at the time of this writing, the shooter has been apprehended. But in those initial moments, confusion and fear took over quickly.

Inside the ballroom, reporters—many of whom would normally be the ones delivering the news—were instead diving under tables, trying to make sense of what was happening while protecting themselves as shots were reportedly being fired just outside the room.
Information has been slow to come in, and understandably so. The very people who would be reporting on the situation were in the middle of it, taking cover as the situation unfolded in real time.
The Drudge Report has already thrown up its signature siren, signaling the severity and urgency of the moment. At this point, there is still uncertainty as to whether the dinner will continue. Trump has reportedly expressed that he would like the event to go on, but ultimately said the decision will rest with law enforcement.

The FBI distributed a bulletin warning that Iran had allegedly aspired to launch drone attacks against California targets in retaliation for U.S. military strikes on Iran.
The intelligence indicated UAVs could potentially be launched from a vessel off the West Coast, but officials stressed there was no confirmed information on timing, targets, or perpetrators. A counterterrorism source told the LA Times the threat has “not been deemed credible at this time.”
The warning came just before the U.S. and Israel launched major strikes on Iran on February 28th, killing Supreme Leader Khamenei. Governor Newsom confirmed his office is aware of the intelligence and has directed Cal OES to elevate its security posture and coordinate around the clock with state and federal partners.

A manhunt is under way after thieves broke into the Louvre and stole “priceless” jewellery that once belonged to Napoleon Bonaparte’s family.
The gang entered the Apollo Gallery in broad daylight shortly after 9.30am, once the gallery had opened to the public, and stole nine items including a necklace, a brooch and a tiara.
The masked criminals arrived on high-powered scooters and reportedly gained access to a part of the building where construction was taking place after using a van-mounted extendable ladder to enter on the Seine River side of the museum.
They then forced open a window, smashed display cases, grabbed the jewellery and left.
Laurent Nuñez, France’s interior minister, called it a “major robbery by a team that had done scouting” and said that jewellery stolen from the museum on Sunday was “priceless”.
