The Sunday Morning Sidewalk

Twenty-five nations are now taking part in the search for Flight 370–the wide area is fast becoming too wide to find any sign of wreckage.. The story is still just as gripping. A week ago when we found out that the pilot of the plane had a flight simulator in his house, we were told it shows he is dedicated to his craft. Now that Malaysia said terrorism happened, the flight simulator has made him a suspect.. I still cannot grasp the concept of how you lose a plane, but more importantly, how families of 239 supposedly lost souls, including beautiful children, are dealing with this immense horror.
It’s certainly interesting.. there is a running poll ending today on the right hand sidebar asking what you think happened to flight 370.. so far the leader is an ‘alternate universe’ choice.. About now, that’s the only thing that seems to make any sense in this strange and spooky story..

There’s more than just that happening along today’s Sunday morning sidewalk.. here’s what you may not want to know, but probably should, as the weekend’s second half begins in earnest.

The DARK HORSE in the room


I feel a bit ashamed of something.. In covering horror happenings in entertainment, I missed out on one big thing: Victor Salva directed the new DARK HORSE horror flick..

That movie was released in only a few theaters this weekend ..

Victor Salva’s name should be in your horror brain for two reasons: 1st, he was the director of the JEEPERS CREEPERS films, and secondly, the other reason Salva should be known is for his molestation of a 12-year-old during filming of CLOWNHOUSE.  

The VICE article on Salva, linked here, should be read and studied by all.  The parallel with Salva is that his sordid history was what it was, but he still creates amazing horror films with great atmosphere..

I recall back in the early days of the HORROR REPORT. I loved the original JEEPERS CREEPERS, and I felt that it reinvented horror movies after a of 1990s ‘know what you did last summer’ type trash..
But the whole 1989 CLOWNHOUSE scandal came back to haunt him as much as his films haunted theater goers..
And now, 2014, his crimes yet again get mentioned every time one of his films do..

Should the molestation jail sentence be a reason to trash JEEPERS CREEPERS and DARK HORSE? That you’re choice.. but at least you’ll know where Salva got his peepers..

Cruel and unusual?

A new pill is going to create a brand new reality–and lots of questions..

Scientists created a pill that will make days seem like 1,000 years.. It’s being touted as a new form of punishment to prisoners..Making only hours seem like hell on earth ..

It is certainly an ethical and moral question–is it right and just to make a prisoner face more punishment and torture of 1,000 years? 

In one sense, it could actually be worse than the death penalty for some prisoners. Imagine 1,000 years worth of punishment?

We would create a purgatory or even a hell on earth. But on the other hand, what constitutes as cruel and unusual punishment? Old debates are going to have to be shoved to the side.

We have a new future on our hands.
And the future is now..

The children of flight 370

These are the first images released of the children aboard Flight 370.. Their beautiful faces speak for themselves. I wish for a world without tragedy and fear for children. Obviously judging from daily news, this planet  hasn’t attained any goal of goodness or love. If a horrible accident occurred on board this plane, it’s assumed that all 239 passengers succumbed to their ill-fated demise quickly. I fear that did not happen.. I especially cringe thinking about the plane experiencing a hijacking gone wrong, or something even worse for the innocent people aboard the flight. Yes, indeed.. those who tune out of heavy headlines may be the happiest.  I’m not like that. I soak up the news as much as a Sheryl Crow soaks up the sun. And for that, I am typically upset about what some nation or person has done to an innocent child in a dark part of the planet Earth.

DAVID BRENNER DEAD AT 78

David Brenner just lost a battle with cancer.. he is dead tonight at the age of 78. He died on a Saturday.. I think of all the Saturday nights he entertained throughout the years of his career, to half empty rooms of half drunk people to the audiences of the TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson.. His humor became an inspiration for others such as Jerry Seinfeld and Paul Reiser.. He was a star of the 20th century and a trend setter for years to come.. And he never abandoned his craft. As FOX news points out in their story tonight on his passing,  Brenner worked steadily through 2013 doing standup. A four-day gig last December included a New Year’s Eve show at a King of Prussia, Pa., casino-resort in which he showcased young comedians.

A non nightmare on my street

I had a vivid dream last night. I was stuck in some form of a coal mine.. I don’t recall ever seeing it before in my life, but in my dream I knew exactly where I was and where I was going.

I saw the vision of a young coal miner in my dream, just staring at me from a distance. I had a moment today to put pen to paper and draw what I remember from the dream–the boy’s pale and motionless eyes…

I don’t think this means much of anything–I really don’t ever know of any dreams do.
But I does make me hope for future technology that will allow us to record our dreams and watch them the next day. 

Unless that would be too scary a prospect given the circumstances of alternate reality that occur deep in sleep under the cover of darkness..

Asteroid to dim a bright star for some in the Northeast!

As reported on the HORROR REPORT and other sources, the missing Malaysia flight has now become a criminal inquiry..  but as I asked on Facebook this morning:  Are officials just using the terror angle to save face for not being able to locate a jet carrying 239 people for over seven days?

The HORROR REPORT and Clyde Lewis may have been the only sources wondering if Flight 370 was hit by a meteor.. Well look at this website (translate it too) .. these fireballs were spotted all over Asia the night that the flight vanished..

The United States is about to get out of the Internet business.. There are big ramifications for that–including a potential internet tax and more regulation. If the net is not controlled by a free people, will free speech suffer? I worry about this. A lot..

Seven days in, officials now suspect flight 370 was hijacked

Officials now saying it is ‘conclusive’ that Flight 370 was hijacked »

Seven days after the vanishing act of MH370, we are now seeing reports that the airliner was hijacked by someone with ‘experience’ and that authorities are zeroing in on two possible routes that the flight took.. Malaysia’s Prime Minister Najib said Saturday that this was a ‘deliberate action.’ 
Najib also said investigators are now trying to trace the airplane across two possible “corridors” — a northern corridor from the border of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan through to northern Thailand, and a southern corridor from Indonesia to the southern Indian Ocean.
That surprisingly conclusive information comes after days of mystery—searches in vast portions of oceans and spy satellites searching land masses for wreckage. Now the Indian Ocean is in play..
This has been the most bizarre and surreal series of events that I have ever witnessed in connection with a plane crash.. And to call it a plane crash at this is not even accurate. We frankly don’t.. Even if the hijacking  story works out, the fact remains: We don’t know where Flight 370 is.

Friday night lights

This may seem like a delusional Friday night thought—and with hours of travel today and three days away my mind may be in a bizarre state of mind.  But here goes anyway.. As I sat in a very lonely hotel bar room, sipping a club soda and lime (after a beer or two of course) I got into a conversation with someone who slipped into a stupor long before I ended up with my non alcoholic  beverage. There was a muted TV playing coverage of the news, that night, that they thought they found wreckage from Flight 370. That turned out to be untrue of course, but during our short bar talk, he told me that he thought aliens abducted the passengers and threw the plane into the ocean. I laughed at that thought but immediately remembered reading the Langoliers by Stephen King. I also recall, quite well, seeing the made for TV movie starring Baulky from PERFECT STRANGERS. The movie was just awful as far as graphics and acting.. but the concept from King was marvelous: The Langoliers are creatures that eat time. And a red eye flight gets caught up in a time slip .. the passengers have to figure it out. And before you know it, they encounter 20th century computer graphics that eat their time out from under them, and around them. Interesting concept. And some have compared the Langoliers to today’s new mystery. You’d need to suspend logic for a while.. what better time to do it than at a lonely cold bar room in the central part of Pennsylvania. I did.. and I wondered if these passengers were battling time demons in a galaxy close by..  Of course, reality may end up with a tragic result in this matter. A crash site.. or something worse..  The Langoliers would be bad, too. Especially if they are as graphically challenged as the 1995 version of creatures that eat time..

Meteors and mysteries and threats

Read this 1997 SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN article on what would happen if meteors struck passenger airliners ..

I offer it up to argue the case that this could have been what happened to flight 370—could have.
So far, anyone I spoke of this theory to laughed at me to my face..
I don’t think it’s a tin foil hat concept like others think..

And with the lack of any answers, shouldn’t we consider any possibility ?

This report is being downplayed to some degree by officials in Malaysia.. However it certainly adds yet more mystery and intrigue to the missing flight..
Regardless, families must be emotionally wrecked at this point, and I cannot fathom what that feels like..
