    Silence of the trans

According to an article in the Hollywood Reporter, the folks behind the classic thriller said “there’s regret” when it comes to their portrayal of the sexually confused serial killer Jame Gumb/Buffalo Bill.

“There are certain aspects of the movie that don’t hold up too well,” said Ted Levine, who played Buffalo Bill. “We all know more, and I’m a lot wiser about transgender issues. There are some lines in that script and movie that are unfortunate.”

“It’s unfortunate that the film vilified that, and it’s f***ing wrong. And you can quote me on that.”

When discussing the adaptation of Buffalo Bill from the pages to the silver screen, producer Edward Saxon explained, “From my point of view, we weren’t sensitive enough to the legacy of a lot of stereotypes and their ability to harm.”

Fans of the film are fuming on social media about the commentary being made by the makers of the film…

Transgenderism was on the fringes of society 35 years ago, so I think we could all forgive filmmakers for not having every subtle nuance of the community represented in their film or how society would view people who are transgender in 2026..

The vast majority of moviegoers actually didn’t even make the connection between Buffalo Bill and transgenderism.. He was a sadistic killer in the film.. and Anthony Hopkins ate people. Horror..

Ted Levine himself: “I didn’t play him as being gay or trans,” he said. “I think he was just a f***ed-up heterosexual man. That’s what I was doing.”

Also people point out that those debating this now are missing the point of the book and the film–and if they would have read the book, this could be viewed very differently..

Jame Gumb failed the psychological evaluations that are requirements for sex reassignment surgeries. Because he wasn’t trans; he was a psychopath. The care he needed wasn’t surgery it was mental health help. Thats the whole point.

And some posts on X have showcased a 1991 litigation of this issue on television then and the reaction then..

    https://twitter.com/lylegoodale/status/2022874021508108500

And it is true.. there were lots of articles and news coverage of this in 1991..

This could be a moment in time where history shapes up differently than how it was looking contemporarily.. but clearly for those of us who lived through 1991, this new article seems to be a bit odd given the big debate that actually DID OCCUR 35 years ago..

  • Obama casually admits aliens!?

    Obama casually admits aliens!?

    yes.. OBAMA ADMITS ALIENS

    This one seems siren worthy!!

Former President Barack Obama said that aliens are real but he has no idea where they are during a podcast appearance released Saturday.

“They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” Obama told YouTuber Brian Tyler Cowen after he asked him about extraterrestrials.

So they are real.. but haven’t seen them. We are cautious here–perhaps this was not necessarily an admission? Perhaps the wrong use of language.. not careful sentence construction…

But he …said they are real. REAL.

The former president did not offer any further details on what he mean by “real” — and no follow-up questions on the topic were asked — but he used the appearance to cast doubt on several longtime theories as to where they might be.

    MORE..

“But what is true — and I’m actually being serious here — is that there’s footage and records of objects in the skies that we don’t know exactly what they are,” he said.

So after all of these years.. did a former president just factually and yet casually announce disclosure?

The former president also addressed the controversies of the day, including the current president posting a video that had a snippet of him and his wife Michelle..

The show was a staple for an entire generation.
That’s why it was so upsetting when we learned that James Van Der Beek was battling cancer.. This one hurts.

ALL flights from El Paso airport halted for security reasons- with updates

    updates:

The unexpected airspace closure in El Paso stemmed from disagreements over drone-related tests, sources told @CBSNews. Pentagon had undertaken extensive planning on use of military tech near Fort Bliss. Two sources identified the technology as a high-energy laser.
Earlier this week, tech was used to shoot down what appeared to be foreign drones. The flying material turned out to be a party balloon, sources said. One balloon was shot down.
FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford last night decided to close the airspace — without alerting White House, Pentagon or Homeland Security officials.
Bedford told officials the airspace restrictions would be in place to ensure safety until issues with the War Department could be resolved.

    Origonal report:

ALL flights to and from El Paso International Airport in Texas have been halted for “special security reasons,” the Federal Aviation Administration said early Wednesday

“No pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas covered by this NOTAM,” the FAA said, using the abbreviation for Notice to Airmen. It listed the reason as “temporary flight restrictions for Special Security Reasons.”

NOTAM said the airspace was classified as national defense airspace. Deadly force could be used on an aircraft if it is determined that it “poses and imminent security threat,” it said, adding that pilots “may be intercepted, detained and interviewed” by law enforcement and security personnel..

  • The First Shadow coming to Netflix

The First Shadow coming to Netflix

There’s been a lot of speculation about what’s next in the Stranger Things universe, and today we may finally have a concrete new piece of the puzzle.

According to an exclusive report from Collider, the Broadway prequel Stranger Things: The First Shadow is officially being professionally filmed by Netflix for a future release on the platform.
For fans who haven’t been able to make it to Broadway or the West End, this is big news. Up until now, The First Shadow — which explores the origins of the show’s central villain  has been one of the most inaccessible pieces of the Stranger Things canon. In true Upside Down fashion, it existed… but just out of reach.

Collider reports that a full week of performances, from Tuesday, February 10 through Saturday, February 14, has been canceled specifically to facilitate filming. Even better, the recorded version will feature the Tony Award–winning production’s original cast, including Louis McCartney, T.R. Knight, Gabrielle Nevaeh, and Alex Breaux. Netflix confirmed late last year that filming would happen, but this is the clearest signal yet that the release is truly on the way.
This announcement may land differently depending on the type of fan you are.

A lot of viewers were told — repeatedly — that seeing The First Shadow was almost required viewing before Season 5 of Stranger Things. And yet, many fans walked away from Season 5 feeling that the show didn’t strictly rely on the Broadway storyline after all. That disconnect left some hardcore fans confused about just how “essential” the play really was.

Still, this is undeniably cool news.

For those of us who wanted to get to the Broadway show but never quite made it happen, a Netflix release feels like the next best thing. And for the global fan base that simply couldn’t travel to see it, this opens the door in a huge way. Whether it ends up reframing Season 5 or simply adding texture and lore to the Stranger Things universe, making The First Shadow widely accessible feels like a win.

More answers may still be hiding in the shadows   but at least now, everyone will get a chance to see them.

  • Riddles: Law enforcement has released images of the suspected Nancy

Riddles: Law enforcement has released images of the suspected Nancy

There are new developments today in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie. The FBI has now released surveillance footage of a potential suspect believed to be connected to the case.
According to authorities, the individual was cloaked in a ski mask and dressed in a jacket and pants, wearing black gloves and carrying a backpack.

In the first video shared, the subject can be seen slowly approaching the front door with a hunched posture. The individual appears to look around cautiously before reaching toward the camera and covering it. After stepping back, the person searches the ground briefly, steps off the front porch, and pulls a plant from the lawn.

In a second clip, the plant appears to be placed directly in front of the camera, further obscuring the view. At one point, the individual seems to be holding what looks like a flashlight in their mouth while manipulating the camera.

The timing of this footage release is interesting. It comes just as a Super Bowl advertisement highlighted Ring cameras and their network capabilities, showing how connected doorbell cameras can help locate something as simple as a lost puppy. It was a feel-good ad reminder of how technology can work collectively and is all connected.. we would assume the same exists here ??

In this case, however, it appears the suspect may have been attempting to disable or obstruct a Ring camera .. though clear footage of the individual exists before that effort.

Another detail some viewers have pointed out is the outfit itself. The ski mask and overall appearance have drawn comparisons to the look worn by the Riddler in the 2022 film The Batman. We don’t know the actual color of the clothing from the footage released, but the mask immediately sparked that association for some observers.

And in a strange, almost symbolic twist, the case itself has felt like one long riddle — with ongoing questions, cryptic elements, and unusual developments continuing to surface. The story remains active, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

    This case continues to unfold.

  • For those who think that Skeletor is the embodiment of toxic masculinity clearly they never met Hordak

For those who think that Skeletor is the embodiment of toxic masculinity clearly they never met Hordak

Skeletor is now being described as “the embodiment of toxic masculinity” in Masters of the Universe, according to director Travis Knight.

Knight says Jared Leto “wanted to swing for the fences” with the iconic villain, adding that the final take is something he’s “really happy with.” These comments come courtesy of an interview in Empire magazine, which also revealed that Masters of the Universe will grace the magazine’s April cover.

And as you’d expect, that quote alone has already sparked some fierce blowback.

A lot of fans immediately bristled at the idea that “wokeness” (yes, that word) is being injected into the film. It’s been a sore subject in the He-Man fanbase for a while now, especially after many accused Kevin Smith of doing exactly that with Netflix’s animated revival. Personally, I didn’t think the first season was bad at all. The second season? Not so much. But the reality is this: the original 1980s concept, as much as we love it, doesn’t fully work anymore. It’s not 1984. And pretending otherwise isn’t exactly honest.

That’s what makes these comments interesting—and potentially risky. Do they actually hurt the Masters of the Universe release? Or does any of this even matter?

Because let’s be honest about the audience. The over-40 crowd is almost certainly the biggest money-maker here. But are they bringing their kids? And do those kids even care?

The toy aisle doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. A lot of Masters of the Universe figures released over the last five years are now heavily discounted. Many Walmart and Target locations have phased them out altogether. You can find Leech at Ross for $4.99—and that should tell you something.
At the same time, people like me still genuinely enjoy the Origins line. I proudly display my collection on the wall. But I’m also aware that I’m in the older demographic now. My son doesn’t seem especially interested in He-Man. He might humor me and go see the movie, but when he watched the trailer, he wasn’t exactly blown away.

Fans also noticed the “he/him” pronouns on the desk during the trailer, which added fuel to the fire. Now, paired with this idea that Skeletor represents toxic masculinity, it’s caused even more debate.
And here’s where I really start scratching my head.

Skeletor… wasn’t toxic. Not really. If anything, he was often portrayed as a clumsy, overconfident boob who could never quite get anything right. There’s even that infamous Christmas special where he becomes a weepy-eyed skeleton at the sight of a scared puppy. That’s not exactly the poster child for hyper-masculine menace.

Yes, the movie version clearly takes him in a darker direction, and the recent animated series gave him more ferocity. But “the embodiment of toxic masculinity”? That feels like a stretch.

There’s also another bizarre part of the quote—the suggestion that Jared Leto has some kind of “history” with the character. What does that even mean? He’s never played Skeletor. Maybe he watched He-Man as a kid. Maybe he had the action figure. So did millions of other people. Skeletor isn’t a real person with a shared backstory—he’s fictional.

And anyone who’s actually an avid He-Man fan knows this: if you’re looking for the true embodiment of toxicity in that universe, it’s not Skeletor at all.
    It’s Hordak.

The real tyrant. The real abuser. The real embodiment of control, domination, and cruelty.

So if the film wants to explore darker themes, fine. If it wants to modernize the mythology, also fine. But mislabeling the characters we’ve known for decades is where the disconnect starts—and where fans start wondering who this movie is really for.
