VISIT JURASSIC WORLD

Forgive me.. I may just be coming off the high of an amazing summer movie experience. Or just too much movie theater popcorn, with extra unhealthy butter. That stuff will kill you.

But JURASSIC WORLD may have been one of the best films I have seen in years.. it reigns high in the action department. The fun department. the laughter.. the homages to the amazing original 1993 film that inspired me as a 13-year-old in a movie theater..

JURASSIC WORLD has every single thing that a summer box office buster should have.
And with it.. a record.

JURASSIC WORLD can now boast that it has over $500 million .. in one weekend.. all over the globe.

The AP reports:

“This over-performed in a way that I’ve never seen,” Rentrak’s Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian said. “It broke the box office sound barrier.”

So why?

I would suggest that families, parents, people like me, who were stunned in the early 90s with the amazing original film, are in part passing that love of film and action to their own children. A new generation is seeing JURASSIC WORLD, with their parents.. and grandparents. That is how the arm-to-arm theater I was in tonight looked. A mixture of ages, from young to old.. all sitting with fascinated eyes staring at the screen. Amazed at the sights, dreading the plight.. and applauding the might of the secret victor at the end of the film..

This movie had what I expected. And more..
…The movie theater butter is secreting from my scalp.. But my brain is going to be filled with the images of JURASSIC WORLD for years to come–the same effect the original had.

A record setting box office opening.
Something that analysts have never seen before.

And perhaps won’t again.
Experience the moment in a theater, should you get the chance. It’s a visit to the WORLD you will not regret..

PHILAE HAS WOKEN UP AND CONTACTED EARTH!

BBC HAS MORE:

It worked for 60 hours before going to sleep when its solar-powered battery ran flat.

The comet has since moved nearer to the sun and Philae has enough power to work again, says the BBC’s science correspondent Jonathan Amos.

The Rosetta probe took 10 years to reach the comet, and the lander – about the size of a washing-machine – bounced at least a kilometre when it touched down.

Its exact location on the comet has since been a mystery.

A fine moment..
Looking forward to the discoveries made. If we are told the full story, of course.

2 SECONDS OF HELL

Five Seconds of Summer member Michael Clifford’s hair caught on fire during a live event..

The guitarist was burnt and posted a photo of the aftermath..

There are times when the things that stars do are just not worth it.. I think pyrotechnics, though exciting, is one of the least desirable things to accompany an act, regardless of the trade or entertainment sport..

Michael Jackson was the cautionary fire tale in the 80s. The early 2000s saw clubs burned down and people killed.

This is the newest I hope more bands take notice: Stop using fire during music acts.

A hungry hungry hippo and lots more!

ZOO ANIMALS RELEASED INTO THE STREETS IN THE NATION OF GEORGIA AFTER FLOODING HITS.. Not on purpose..

Michael Birnbaum filed his dispatch with the WASHINGTON POST about the moment in strange history:

Massive flooding in Tbilisi killed at least three zookeepers and eight others Sunday, as a hippopotamus, a lion and wolves roamed the streets.

Portions of the central city were on lockdown as police tried to locate zoo animals that had escaped.

The story sounds humorous.. But there have already been almost a dozen people confirmed dead, though the article did not detail whether it was the flood that did it or the animals..

More from the POST:

“I can’t imagine this tragedy,” said Tbilisi Zoo spokeswoman Mzia Sharashidze. “Almost the whole zoo is underwater.”

She said tigers, hyenas and eight lions had disappeared, among many other animals. Six of 17 penguins were saved; the rest washed away. One crocodile was captured; the other was in sight of zoo workers, but they were unable to reach it as of midafternoon Sunday.

JOHN VIDAL AT THE GUARDIAN WRITES: In an unprecedented encyclical on the subject of the environment, the pontiff is expected to argue that humanity’s exploitation of the planet’s resources has crossed the Earth’s natural boundaries, and that the world faces ruin without a revolution in hearts and minds. The much-anticipated message, which will be sent to the world’s 5,000 Catholic bishops, will be published online in five languages on Thursday and is expected to be the most radical statement yet from the outspoken pontiff

This is going to be undoubtedly controversial, amazing, historic, and news making when it occurs..

The GUARDIAN reports that Pope Francis will go on to write:

The Argentinian pontiff is expected to repeat calls for a change in attitudes to poverty and nature. “An economic system centred on the god of money needs to plunder nature to sustain the frenetic rhythm of consumption that is inherent to it,” he told a meeting of social movements last year. “I think a question that we are not asking ourselves is: isn’t humanity committing suicide with this indiscriminate and tyrannical use of nature? Safeguard creation because, if we destroy it, it will destroy us. Never forget this.”
