While morbid, equally fascinating .. vivid nostalgic dreams are common near the end of life..
Dreaming is believed to help us process our emotions, store memories, strengthen neural connections, reduce stress, solve problems, and think creatively.
Vivid dreams happen most often during the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep stage, when the brain is particularly active.
In a desperate attempt to change the narrative away from Stranger Things posts for the last week, or maybe just as a brief respite from entertainment and movies altogether, we’re going to focus on dreams. That’s fun. Or, in my case, last night’s nightmare.
Every now and then I have a dream this memorable .. a nightmare that sticks with you .. and last night was one of those sleepless nights. It was the 3:00 a.m. witching hour when I woke up. That seems to be the most popular time for a nightmare to abruptly pull you out of your nocturnal decommission.
In this situation, the abrupt nature was a giant inflatable lumberjack.
Let me explain.
In the dream, there was a bluish tint to the atmosphere and fresh-fallen snow covering a giant yard .. presumably my yard. I noticed something underneath the snow, struggling to move. When I went down to investigate, it turned out to be an inflatable lumberjack. How cute. Have fun.
It started innocently, with the lumberjack now freed from the heavy snow on top of it and able to inflate freely. But as dreams tend to go, it didn’t stop there. Literally. It just kept inflating, to the point where it was potentially 30 to 40 feet high, and that’s when it started to frighten me.
So, in the dream, I ran back to the house for safety. When I looked out the window, the lumberjack decided to grab a giant inflatable axe, detach himself from the strings holding him down, and run at the house at full speed.
What a strange concept — a lumberjack, let alone a 40-foot inflatable lumberjack, charging at you at full speed.
It’s weird because it was just a dream, but it’s the kind of dream that stayed with me all day. There could be plenty of reasons why it happened. Maybe it’s stress. Maybe there’s something in my own life coming at me full speed that I need to grasp or grapple with.
Or maybe it was just too much vino at the hotel bar. Either way, I asked AI to make a gritty four-panel comic based on my very detailed description. It didn’t quite capture the full inflatable rendering, the size and ferocity of the lumberjack, but it’s good enough for me.
So I present it for your approval, with the help of our ever-increasing spy device known as AI. Enjoy: The Inflatable Lumberjack Dream, comic-style.
So it’s October, it’s that creepy time of year. Bear with us on this one. We have written tons about malls over the years, the death of the mall.. and now we are writing about the birth of something new: A #Mallworld that people all over the real world are saying they have mapped out in their dreams…
x x x
At the time this is written, we are drenching our minds in the ‘creepy time of year’ stories.. Sometimes the creepy lasts all year..
Algorithms have given us a bit more hairs on arms raised up with this.. there’s something called Mall World.. Not sure if you .. or quite the opposite maybe you’ve had dreams about this place. Lots of others say they they.
We will give you the bird’s eye view of this interesting paranormal tale that people have suddenly been weaving online. It has been brewing under the surface of social media platforms for a while. While it reads like a Creepypasta, this one seems to have allies that call it true and people are saying, unless fiction, they have actually walked the floors of MallWorld..
It began to really evolve a few months ago.. and now a TikTok user has drawn it!
WELCOME TO MALLWORLD. DON’T FORGET TO WIPE YOUR FEET
A hand-drawn “Mall World” map has been circulating from TikTok creators who claim recurring dreams of the same sprawling complex. One widely shared version was posted by a creator Tiltonica whose map (featuring labeled zones like a non-functional highway and “incoming tsunami”) was re-uploaded and discussed in r/TheMallWorld on Reddit, triggering a wave of “I’ve seen this place too” replies.
Other TikTokers and users of other socials have posted their own long-running Mall World dream accounts. A recent roundup noted the sudden spike in posts and stitched videos comparing similar dream landmarks.
Lately, with people either loving the tale and wanting in, or people genuinely believing they are experiencing this mass dream hallucination, there are plans online between people to try meeting up and talking to each other in Mall World–and many who are saying they are doing it already!
Some people claim that those who visit Mall World were the same who were in the famous Gate program in the 1980s and 90s for gifted students in schools across America..
She is also selling her hand drawn Mall World map for $3 a pop..
OPENING THE GATES TO MALLWORLD
GATE stands for “Gifted and Talented Education,” a catch-all label for United States school services that boast they will accelerate or enrich curricula for students who test in roughly the top percentiles… GATE grew out of mid-late 20th-century pushes to serve advanced learners.. think the 1972 federal Marland Report, the 1983 reform manifesto A Nation at Risk, and the 1988 Jacob K. Javits Act, which framed gifted education as mainstream schooling and not a covert CIA or Department of Energy project. Experts will tell us, that despite what people collectively claim, there is no evidence connecting GATE to any nefarious alphabet agency mind control tests.. BUT…. popular comparisons to Stranger Things draw instead on real, but separate, Cold-War history like CIA projects MKULTRA and the Army’s “Gateway Process” memo about altered-state training… documents that are declassified but unrelated to K-12 gifted classes. (And if you’re into this stuff, you may like our CIA reading room )
Others say it was just an education mission and a mundane government operation.. And if it was not, what was the government trying to do? Create super soldiers? Future scientists? CIA operatives? Black Ops? Psychological warfare? Remote viewing? Crushing a Coke can with a brain? Certainly the government never tried any of that.. Oh wait.. Maybe check our that CIA reading room for sure..
Well, enter the Mall World where, it is claimed, those same people who were in this GATE are suddenly being thrust into the dream world about this liminal space with no exit.. A place with elaborate storefronts and a hospital and toiletries, and all these different endless rooms think the back rooms, but just with more things in them.
The dive we did on this was deep–so much so that we were confronted by several accounts that put so much faith in Mall World, there was even debate to whether it was good or Satanic to be comfortable being there..
It does not matter if YOU believe Mall World exists.. people do.
We consider ourselves skeptics–not skeptics for the sake of just denying things for fun, but instead asking hard questions and looking at evidence of claims..
In this case of Mall World, it is a narrative now being claimed by so many–but are they feeding off of each other, and using the map from Tiltonica as a jumping off point to take the story where they want regardless of truth?
Your dreams are your own .. and you often remembers pieces of them, and sometimes nothing at all. It is open for perception and false memory as well.
I myself have never been to Mall World in my dream.. I have had dreams where I explored places in my own home or schools that don’t exist in real life. But no dream.. no musack.. no empty stores. As we have lamented, we miss the real malls of our waking life..
But is there some other theory here that can work? Carl Jung had a theory that mass consciousness dreams that can tap into the collective unconscious, a shared reservoir of universal human experiences, symbols, and archetypes, rather than being solely personal…
This could all be just a huge mass awakening–or people are having fun with Mall World and it is just a big new Internet fiction tale.
But when you read something like this REDDIT comment, you will realize that it not only is considered true by many writing these posts, but they are also angry that that Tilton video and Mall World concept is going as mainstream as it is..
Nobody should go follow that Creator on tiktok. She just made a video saying how she doesn’t care if it goes mainstream and ruins it for everybody and she doesn’t care if the community crashes and burns.
As said before.. whether you believe in this or not, it doesn’t matter. Others do. And they are mapping out a new world that exists only when they sleep..
What a strange thought–I have felt pain from the outside world in dreams. For example, if you have an ache or leg cramp, sometimes they manisfest as a different experience in your dream.. But the idea of actually dreaming something painful and you feel it? Perhaps it is more the interplay between reality and the dream world?
From the actual research:
When it comes to our likelihood of experiencing pain at night, it seems that our general health condition plays a role in the frequency and nature of the pain.
A 2017 study found that about 1% of healthy people experience pain in dreams compared to about 30% of people who suffer from acute and severe pain.In patients, painful dreams may be triggered by actual pain whereas for healthy people, painful dreams may be painful memories (pain experienced by themselves and/or watching people getting hurt). The study authors state that further research is needed to clarify how pain is processed during sleep.
Because patients with chronic pain experience negative-hued dreams, it would be helpful to ask chronic pain patients about their dreams, and perhaps offer specific treatment options like guided imagery therapy. So, can we feel pain in dreams? The answer is yes, yet our general health condition probably predicts whether it’s real or only dream pain.
Makes you fearful of that falling down dream now, right?
Or more appropriately frightened that Freddy himself may have the power to truly BE REAL if you can feel pain in a dream.
In my dream, I can’t tell what was real.. I think I was being filmed in a movie, but when Freddy went to push me against a sharp object, I felt the pain. Then I pretended to be dead until I heard him smash through a window and leave. At this point I called 911 and heard ambulance sirens in the distance coming, when I finally had hope.
None of this horror would have been happening if it was just a movie, right?
Incidentally I was watching the ELM STREET marathon on AMC and also fell asleep listening to Richard Syrett take calls from people on Coast to Coast AM about real life encounters with the paranormal..
Pop some popcorn or get a pot of Joe ready.. This will be a long post.
There is no easy way to summarize this interesting and strange series of events that recently caught our attention .. it’s not necessarily paranormal. Maybe. But it’s creepy, indeed.. So keep with this post as we explore.. as we take a dive.
Before we begin, remember this.. All of this could be a grand hoax, one that has taken place over a series of months and even years.. I could be a huge ARG.. Maybe it’s just a bunch of 4Channers and Redditors have fun at the expense of the Internet..
The dream thing is not new.. Many months back, as the March shutdowns began to take hold across America, the one uniting issue that everyone seemed to have suddenly in common: Bad dreams.. I even asked the question of my friends on my personal Facebook account and immediately received dozens of responses. People stating they never had dreams quite like they were having.. that they were puzzled and at the same time frightened by the way the dreams felt. Real.. vivid.. Like they were actually happen or actually did. Some of the most visceral dreams anyone had in years. I had them too.
Wouldn’t it be interesting to document these weird terrors at night we all have been sharing?

HAVE YOU BEEN HAVING STRANGE DREAMS?
A VERY weird poster began popping up around the Willamette Valley of Portland Oregon in 2015–five years ago now at the time this post is written..
The poster said was placed on random telephone poles and buildings.. It stated,
“The Willamette Valley Dream Survey is investigating a recent spike in bizarre, unexplainable dreams. If you have been experiencing any unusual dream activity, you can help by reporting a summary.”
The poster went on to say to call 971-258-1465 with a description of the dream.
Even OREGON LIVE had a story at that time about the posters and how it was giving people an edgy freaking feeling through the area.
Calling the number on the poster reveals that someone cared enough to set up a voicemail account just for the purpose. A woman’s voice says, “Thank you for calling the Willamette Valley Dream Survey. Please leave a detailed account of your dream after the tone. Transcripts or audio from your report may be duplicated in other media.”
The recording provides no other details. A message left by The Oregonian/OregonLive Thursday morning was not immediately returned.
A Google search finds no other reference to the Willamette Valley Dream Survey. The number has in the past been affiliated with a summer camp operated by the German-language immersion program Sophie Scholl Schule, which operates in Beaverton, Portland and Corvallis. But a school official said the number was a Google phone account that the school no longer uses.
“All we do is German,” school director Lynn Ries said. After viewing the Reddit post, she wrote in an email “I can see why you’re checking into this. That’s one weird poster.”
When you called the 971 numbers, you were met with this greeting in a female voice (that sounded real and not robotic): “Thank you for calling the Willamette Valley Dream Survey. please leave a detailed description of your dream after the tone.”
Yes, all strange. Strange that the phone number worked, that people were able to report their dreams, and that the ‘collector’ was never known.. some of you who saw the documentary DON’T FUCK WITH CATS on Netflix may remember how dedicated Reddit users are on finding their suspects.. But on this one, it didn’t work. For all of the research we did about the Willamette Valley dream survey, we were not able to find one clear and concise source that the culprit behind these posters was ever located.
There were, however, some interesting and tantalizing hints on the origins.
THE BRIDGE is a college newspaper in Portland.. A May 2019 edition ran a story about FUTEL phones that were popping up around the city. The FUTEL website has this mantra:
At Futel, we believe in the preservation of public telephone hardware as a means of providing access to the agora for everybody, and toward that goal we are privileged to provide free telephone calls, voicemail, and telephone-mediated services.
All services, including telephony and human interaction, are free from any Futel telephone.
Rory Elliot sought out this in May 2019: A little adventure to locate all the “Futel” phones in Portland. What they found, they reported at the time, were pay phones acting as radio towers, broadcasting analog potential across the city.
Elliot wrote this, with my emphasis added in bold red text:
Each Futel phone sits in front of a house and is almost invisible to the unconcerned eye. The first Futel phone booth we approached was on 23rd and Taylor. We punched the buttons of this antiquated device with wonder, only to find that besides pressing 1 for free domestic calling, an entire world of bizarre and mystical interactivity laid beyond each key. Stunned, we explored all of the different ways we could travel the winding roads within the world of Futel. By dialing 3 for the directory, you are given the option to call the Mayor, the “Druid of Sisyphus Gardens” (still unknown), the Apology line (a voicemail confessional that began in New York in the 1980’s), Willamette Valley Dream Survey, and more. I called the Mayor and the Druid, but didn’t want to slow down to make an apology. Finally, I selected the option to call a payphone at random. The phone rang over and over, and I awaited anxiously for someone to happen upon my phantom call. I stayed on this phone for over a half an hour, exploring all its secrets. Finally, I connected to Futel’s collective voicemail box, where anyone can record and listen to each others messages. I left a voicemail about an upcoming show happening at my house, and sang a short song for someone to stumble upon. Resting the clunky handset between my ear and shoulder, I remembered the strangeness of telephone communication. The depth of its intimacy. How it brings us across towns and countries. How important it is to have, to cherish, and how necessary it is to daily life.
There was no mention on NPR of the Oregon phones allowing you to press an option to reach the Willamette Valley Dream Survey.
CRAZY DREAMS THESE DAYS
The coronavirus breakout in 2019 and 2020 has no solidified this time in history books.. beyond that, weird flyers began to appear again just this year.
Around April, 2020, a new flyer is being posted in potentially several states — at least if you believe those who post on REDDIT– featuring a somewhat similar message to the strange Willamette Valley 2015 leaflets. This one is being labeled the Happy Valley Dream Survey. And now features an email of happyvalleydreamsurvey@gmail.com and a phone number of 725-333-9067.
Happy Valley is a nickname for Utah County, one of the most populous areas of that state. It is also a nickname for the State College area of Pennsylvania..
I personally called the phone number listed on the poster.. you get an automated message stating, “Please leave a description of your dream after the tone.” I did. And immediately afterwards, I received a text message thanking me for participating in the “dream survey.”
Some report that they receive calls a few days afterwards from the Happy valley Dream survey that hang up..
Googling 725-333-9067 leaves you no where. You just find out the number is associated with a Las Vegas location.
So we are left wondering.. A marketing ploy? A starving artist looking for ideas? A cult? Scientists trying to do a real study? A group investigating dreams we are collectively having..?
That collective dream issue brings us back to another famous collective dream of the past.
In January 2006 in New York, the patient of a well-known psychiatrist draws the face of a man that has been repeatedly appearing in her dreams. In more than one occasion that man has given her advice on her private life. The woman swears she has never met the man in her life.
That portrait lies forgotten on the psychiatrist’s desk for a few days until one day another patient recognizes that face and says that the man has often visited him in his dreams. He also claims he has never seen that man in his waking life.
The psychiatrist decides to send the portrait to some of his colleagues that have patients with recurrent dreams. Within a few months, four patients recognize the man as a frequent presence in their own dreams. All the patients refer to him as THIS MAN.
From January 2006 until today, at least 2000 people have claimed they have seen this man in their dreams, in many cities all over the world: Los Angeles, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Tehran, Beijing, Rome, Barcelona, Stockholm, Paris, New Dehli, Moskow etc.
At the moment there is no ascertained relation or common trait among the people that have dreamed of seeing this man. Moreover, no living man has ever been recognized as resembling the man of the portrait by the people who have seen this man in their dreams.
The aim of this website is: – to help those who have seen this man in their dreams and to foster communication among them; – to understand who this man is and why he appears in an apparently pattern-less array of situations in the dreams of such diverse human subjects.
Are we collectively having similar dreams? And is this new study trying to just capture that.. but for what end?
ENTER THE NEW CONSPIRACY..
Remember remember the 5th of September
This is where things get… even weirder. Is that possible..
Going back to the REDDIT, users ‘aliensdid911’ and ‘1regit’ were both highly active on the website trying to ascertain the information about the happy valley dream survey.. They were in deep..
1Regit said he was “uneasy” and worried about what he got himself into.
BOTH USERS VANISHED FROM REDDIT in May. Not only their posts and initial information, but also their Youtube Videos of their calls to the Happy Valley Dream Survey.
The vanishing act of both users created an online drama on REDDIT in the aftermath..
And a weird connection to a new conspiracy about 5September…
Let’s explain..
REDDIT user Caitlyn2468 tried to contact this dream survey. She got back a text response saying “sorry my responses are limited, you must ask the right questions.” To check what kind of questions would trigger a response she asked a random set of questions and surprisingly she got a question right and received a response.
The response was “that is the right question.”
The response: “9 goehe 5 jit”..
9 goeh translates to Kreyol ayisyen as Septanm in French. and that translates to September in English..
5..
A now famous group on Reddit, a group–or some call a cult–believe an apocalyptic event will occur on September 5, 2020…
The group believe that dreams will help avert a disaster, or at least help you find a safe place during the “end of the world.”
The day will be exactly 24 hours–usually its a tiny bit less than 24 exact hours.. Electric devices won’t work, people will disappear. He claims to have seen dreams of a man in blue flames who told him about this thing. He talks in codes and tells tales about a mysterious “organization”.
Back to dreams.. Those interesting strange dreams..
And back to those weird dream surveys from 2015 and now the happy valley survey of 2020, the year of our pandemic.
So join me.. dive head first into the rabbit hole of high strangeness.
The witching hour has struck again.. The dream that turns into a nightmare.. just in time for 3am to show its ugly Face on the clock..
Let me explain.. for those who haven’t read this site for any bit before this post, you may not realize that I have a theory that most bad dreams and nightmares occur at or around 3am. At least mine.. and I have find some concurrence with others on the topic..
Last night it happened to me again.
Before I progress to the nightmare, I have to first say this. A few months ago, a reader sent me a message that I should listen to calming YouTube sleep hypnosis or music on earbuds at night. After trying it, it was surprising that actually the result ended up with NO DREAMS at all..
Last night I was just dead tired..I conked out early and, for the most part, has pleasant night visions.. I recall things got strange though. At one point, the dream turned odd when I was watching SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Chris Farley was on — he wasn’t dead in nightmare.. but very well alive and well-aged with time. The show opened and suddenly I heard the Bruce Springsteen song BORN TO RUN play loud. Suddenly, out of no where, I heard a lower octave G chord play on a piano. I turned in my house, saw my black piano –that I have in real life– and I saw keys being held down. I backed up, and saw the keys move.. I backed up more and before I realized it was shrieking in fear in real life. I had woken up, scared and in a cold sweat…looking at the clock on my phone, and seeing 3am.
I actually could not fall back to sleep. Instead I went to the computer and turned on Coast to Coast AM, all the while researching what exactly piano dreams mean.
The experts on these matters hold a piano dream to be in good light. Success is coming! Business is going to be good! If a piano plays!? Harmony..
But my piano dreamed was different than this harmonious affair the dream experts talked about. Instead, a dreadful deep note played and all I could do was sense a surrounding spirit of fear overcome me.
Then the real thoughts came in.. while in deep sleep, unless you are one of the few and proud who learned to master your own dream, you really don’t distinguish fiction from reality. That dream, for the moments you are in it, is real. Quite real as a matter of fact. This is how the piano dream feltfor me.. And how I know nightmares often feel for you.
But I pondered… who was hunting me in my dream? What dead spirit? What deceased family member? And if one would actually try to make contact, that would be a beautiful thing! I would love the chance! And no one who I know who died had any grudge against me, just love. So the conclusion would have to be made that this entity is evil. It is not of my family. Not a friend. But a possession of some other sort.
It is unwanted and uninvited. But somehow stepped in my dream without warning ..
I didn’t want it to be there. It just showed up.. and payed the song of doom. Or at least a note of dread.
My question for you–you can answer in your own head–is this: Have you ever had a dream like this? One where an unspeakable force toys with you? And .. how real did it seem?
Mine seemed real.
Either the dread is something internal and deeply traumatic..or I am being hunted by a night stalker with no face or being..
Maybe the night stalker is the emotional roller coaster of the day’s toils.. Maybe it’s the fear of the night …
I will document this dream and move on.Hoping to never have it again.
UNLESS…the sprit decides to show its face. If only I can master the dream and ask the meaning, then perhaps I can master reality and figure out the meaning of that as well…

Sounds: Real-life sounds can find their way into your dreams’ storylines. For a restful sleep, play white noise in the background: It drowns out the other sounds around you and should improve your sleep, allowing for organic dreaming.
Smells: In a small 2008 study, German researchers introduced either a positive smell (roses) or a negative smell (rotten eggs) when women entered rapid eye movement, or REM, sleep — a prime time for dreaming. When the women were woken up, they were asked about what they’d dreamt. Smelling roses yielded positive dreams, while smelling eggs yielded negative dreams.
Sleeping Position: A recent study out of Hong Kong found that sleeping on your stomach increases the chances you’ll have a sexual dream.
Your State of Mind: Not surprisingly, your mental state — not just what happens to you and around you — has a huge impact on your dreams.
Quitting: Ever wonder why you’re haunted by pizza and ice cream in your dreams when you’re trying to lose weight? Whenever you quit something — drinking or smoking or even just cookies — you’re going to dream about it. That is, if you diet or cut out sugar, your dreams are likely to feature a delectable buffet of treats. People who quit smoking tend to have dreams about smoking for the first couple of years afterward stopping the harmful habit — and some are visited infrequently by such dreams even 30 years later.
Drugs and Vitamins: Nicorette, for example, tends to give people intensely vivid dreams. Drugs can also affect dream recall: Since depression makes you less likely to remember your dreams, anti-depressants can counteract that effect. Vitamin B6 has also been shown to help people remember their dreams more vividly and easily.

It’s a series of stories told by people who Ascher collected to tell their tales of sleep paralysis. Along with the verbiage, horrific images of what they saw–documentary style..
