  • History on a wire

    History on a wire

This happened 40 years ago today.

Philippe Petit left a crowd of thousands breathless as he traversed a wire strung between the Twin Towers. Eschewing a safety harness or a net, the 24-year-old walked and danced across the 130-foot gap between the towers, balanced on a one-inch thick steel cable strung at a height of 110-stories.

In later accounts, Petit traced his inspiration for the performance back to the first time he saw a photo of the Twin Towers. He was at a dentist’s office with a toothache when he came across the image in a magazine. The 18-year-old ripped the photo out and left the office. He spent the next six years planning for the death-defying act.

And now those towers are gone.. remaining are memories of them, and recollections of seeing this amazing feat on that day in August, 1974..

From the depths of my childhood, new toys for my son

My son and I were playing my my old He-Man action figures tonight, I think it’s the first time in my 33 years of life I actually took a close look at Moss Man’s face.. What an ugly mug.

Funny enough, Moss still has a slight hint of the fresh 1980s added on odor that Mattel have him.. Amazing.

    BUT!

Oh no! Ayden just beheaded Mekaneck… Another casualty in the old toy box..

  • Sharknado 2: The best worst movie of all time

Sharknado 2: The best worst movie of all time

While some mock it, and others decry the acting skills, I quite loved it. How can it not be loved.. I certainly will not review it, rate it, or recommend it.. unless you’ve got a well established group of friends who, perhaps a wee bit, are under the influence of some sort of legalized liquid mind changer. Otherwise, you’re forced to see the movie for what it is: A tremendous waste of time.

But that’s why I loved it.
Time was meant to be wasted, especially on a Sunday night when the other real new programming on is HOARDERS..

Tara Reid? Oh my.. but making up for her lack of skills to deliver a solid line even in a joke film: Al Roker and Matt Lauer driving sharp objects through CGI sharks. That cannot be missed..

So watch this at your own peril.. try to make it a group thing. If it’s not.. you’ll wonder why you did what you just did..

Anyone who follows me or has read this website for any amount of time will know well that when I get worried about something, there’s a tendancy on my part to overkill the issue.. Ebola has been the latest bit of news getting me to tighten my tin foil hat..

The prospects of EBOLA being present in the United States—on purpose—gave me chills.. Yes, it’s Americans who obviously have the right to be in America, and we’re told the chamber fortress where the treatment in Atlanta will take place is safer than any place on earth.. but.. don’t you still get a bit of a chill hearing that Ebola is purposely being brought to the United States? That a hospital will treat patients here? Maybe I am too ‘American’ in my thought—-but to those who think I don’t care about Africans suffering the affliction, you’re wrong. I have been paranoid about this for years and have constantly worried about it, and reported about it… The latest outbreak is the worst ever seen.. Hopefully it burns itself out.. gets under control…

Let’s hope Captain Trips will not exist.

And yes, the man who discovered the virus says that he would sit next to someone on a train if they were infected with it.

    But would you?
    Would I?

There is chaos constantly on the planet earth.. It reminds me more than a bit like the opening scenes of the STAND, or opening paragraphs depending on how you discovered it..

EBOLA is coming to our shores.. it’s real, it’s on purpose.

Let’s hope and pray that all of those rational people saying there’s nothing to see here are right.

    But .. until then..

    Baby..can you dig your man!?

  • A Ninja Turtles fail

    A Ninja Turtles fail

The building up the new TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES film has been hotter than a pepper sprout in Texas.. Megan Fox, with her thumbs, has been busy talking to COMIC CON attendees about her role, and Bigfoot.. the posters are everywhere.. the new style Ninja Turtles action figures are everywhere, too..

The American release of the film is August 8..
The Australian release is September 11.. which makes the next part of this story even more awkward..

PARAMOUNT PICTURES AUSTRALIA went and did this: They tweeted an image of a burning skyscraper with the Turtles jumping from it, along with this: “Check out the official poster for #TMNT in cinemas September 11”..

Yikes!! Stop the presses… Cowabunga ..

    What were they thinking?

The less than tactful image was in social media circles for quite some time, in Internet time, before people snapped back and stormed the virtual servers where the poster was being replicated.

    Apologies ensued..

Paramount said in a statement, post feeding frenzy on Twitter:

We are deeply sorry to have used that artwork for the marketing materials promoting the September 11 opening in Australia. Combining that image and date was a mistake. We intended no offence and have taken immediate action to discontinue its use.

Oh, and yes: The Tweet got deleted..

But the poster will live in infamy..

Bob Beckel: I’ve Done Dope in The White House »

He was reacting to Snoop Dogg’s bragging rights that he did dope in the first family’s not so humble abode.. Beckel, one of the few Democrats permitted air time on FOX NEWS, said:

“I can’t criticize this guy (Snoop) because I’ve done dope in the White House myself”

    That..

And to put this in perspective: Obvious shenanigans are taking place in the White House—I would venture to say that pot was the least of the sins in the past 200 + years—but a teenager is facing life in prison in Texas over pot brownies.  You’re half baked if you don’t see something wrong with that picture..

Cruzing to a bruising: Ted Cruz loses the vampire vote

The acclaimed vampire spectacle on HBO, TRUE BLOOD, got political this weekend when it featured Senator Ted Cruz..

Here is how RAW STORY summed up the plot:

In the episode, characters Eric Northman and Pam De Beaufort dress up in stereotypical Texan Republican trappings to infiltrate a Cruz fundraising event in Dallas. “Oh my God. I’m a Republic*nt,” Pam remarks after seeing herself in the mirror.

Ted Cruz responded to the show on his Facebook page, saying, “Of all the places I never thought to be mentioned, HBO’s True Blood vampire show would have to be near the top of the list. Sunday night, they aired a misogynist and profanity-ridden episode where Texas Republicans are murdered attending a “Ted Cruz fundraiser.” Well, I’m sorry to have lost the vampire vote, but am astonished (and amused) that HBO is suggesting that hard-core leftists are blood-sucking fiends….”

Here is the scene from the show:

WWE doing what it does best: Commenting on pop culture and current events

Russian-themed WWE characters use MH17 disaster as part of act »

People are quite angry about this, so the mainstream media says, on Twitter and all of the other antisocial networks that exist out there on the information beltway.

While it may be the old ‘too soon’ cliche that is best used in this situation, I am not at all surprised at what the WWE is doing.

Back when when the WWE was the WWF, they capitalized on Iranian hatred by making Hulk Hogan win the 1984 title belt against the Iron Sheik..

In 1990, Sgt Slaughter turned his back on the United States and joined with Iraq ..

Hulkster had to ave the say the day and rid the WWF of anti-American sentiment.

    So now wrestling has LUNA..
Controversial: The 'Lana' charter played by C.J. Perry made reference to flight MH17 being shot down and hailed Russian president Vladimir Putin for 'making fools' out of the U.S.

But there’s no Hulk Hogan to save the day this time. I think John Cena is right for the job..

Listen.. We all know, at this point in life, that wrestling is fake. It’s an act.. but so often it’s on the cutting edge of pop culture—it’s how it stayed in fashion for so many decades. Vince McMahan is obviously no stranger to controversy and will get through this LUNA lunacy quite fine.

As to whether it’s offensive? Sure.. but that’s the point. It’s an attempt to market the character as someone we will all hate in unison. It’s quite a keen way of doing it.. controversial, too. But … if an organization was free of controversy, people may very well stop paying attention to it.. Don’t think THAT doesn’t run through Vince McMahan’s mind.

  • As the world burns

    As the world burns

A clash of news.. good and bad. Real and unreal. On a day when even the real seems unreal..
Here are the headlines presented in random order, without judgement but added commentary when the HORROR REPORT sees fit.

    Fearful Friday..

Ukraine has released audio of what it says are pro-Russian separatists on a phone call stating they shot down a plane..

CNN has released a news flash early Friday that US intelligence also believes separatists are to blame..

The dangers of Twitter.. Jen Psaki from the State Department is getting more than enough criticism today .. she posted a meaningless fashion Tweet while the Malaysian airliner was on fire on the ground with body parts scattered for at least 9 miles.. My first inclination: Forgiveness, especially if she auto-tweeted. What some may not realize is that you can schedule your blog/Tumblr/Tweet/Facebook posts to auto publish.. It’s one of my fears, too, auto-posting something which would look abhorently stupid if real events in the world occurred while the auto-tweeting was doing that. If Psaki posted LIVE during this moment? Well that’s pretty shameful.
Also on the same note: British media is lampooning President Obama for his actions post Russian/Ukraine/airliner fiasco: The President gave a 40-second mention of the Malaysian ‘tragedy’ before he launched into an awkward 16 minutes of jokes and scripted teleprompter remarks.. But perhaps teh real problem is not when a DOS official tweets nonsense or a Presidents tells jokes that come up on his teleprompter, but when our intelligence is such that the Kremlim has to tell the President that an Earth-changing event happened..

There is more on the airliner missile strike:
100 or so passengers on the Boeing 777 were on their way to an AIDS conference.. they were scientists and researchers en route to Australia..
There are major questions as to why the plane was flying over a war zone.. One idea floating currently: Malaysian Airlines was trying to save gas..
One report indicates that 23 Americans were on board the flight..

“Do not fly in our sky”

Touching briefly on the subject of Twitter, another embarassment occurred yesterday.. Not another fashion post from the State Department, but from a CNN reporter. When Israel launched the ground offensive in Gaza yesterday, CNN’s Diana Mgnay called Israelis “scum” </A. in a tweet.. If Magnay has a defense, it's this: She was threatened by cheering Israelis who were watching the bombardment of Gaza.. It should be noted, here is when a cautionary ‘think before your post’ statement should be uttered: Magnay deleted many of the Tweets afterwards..

Finally at this hour.. some unabashed and deep thoughts.. there is a overwhelming feeling of grief and fear running through the blood of my veins today. Those safe and sound should shutter.. because life is fading and fragile–fleeting and fearful. The purpose of the HORROR REPORT was to report on scary movies and television programs in the industry.. it expanded and continues to expand as it ages down onto other paths. Real news, paranormal news.. UFO news.. space news..
The past 36 hours have been dedicated to events of the realistic nature.
While the world is being torn apart by warfare regardless of continent or country, the ‘it won’t happen to me’ attitude is still something worn as a badge of confidence throughout the planet. The idea that you, me, and whoever reading this, is immune to the horrors of war and the scars of battle. The people flying on that Malaysian airliner, shot down by some group hell-bent on causing fear and bloodshed, did not know they were going to die on that flight. The nun and the AIDS researchers hadn’t the clue that the angel of death was not only knocking but also busting down the door to get in.. the men and women had no connection to the war ravaging parts of Ukraine over Crimea. They don’t know and maybe did not even care of the battle lines. And now, 300 souls become victims. Without notice, without mercy, and without warning. Their bodies vacant souls–now if only we knew where the souls went after life.. There are times world events move me tom tears–lately that’s been happening quite a bit. A NEW YORK TIMES article published today made me eyes swell up with water.. Especially this section of the article, which describes some of the articles of possessions found in the debris of Flight 17:

Dutch belongings were scattered through the grass: a pink children’s book; a parking ticket picked up by a man named Hans van den Hende; a book of stickers. Children’s playing cards were sprinkled near the road.

Anyone with a heart–and especially anyone with children–gets a disburbing feeling in the pit of your stomach when you read that. I did.. and I still do as I re-read it..
I ask myself, and constantly scream out in silent anger to God or whatever else controls this universe: Why always children. Why must they be collateral damage in the sins of men? The drums of war have no beat.. they are just a mix and mess of conflicting thumps and noises of bombs..
With scores of dead children around the planet every hour.
The latest dead child had a pink book, stickers, and playing cards. Little trinkets of goodness and innocence.. now those pieces of peace are shredded by the hounds of war. Gone for good are the beautiful children who played with them..
I pray that this missile hit fast and so furiously that the passengers felt no pain.
But even if they did not feel pain, there will be other innocent men, women, and children who constantly feel pain and suffering in the billowing smoke of the world, on fire, with war.
