  • The God of Chaos in 2068

The God of Chaos in 2068

This website has been around in some form or another since the year 2000.. I can recall covering horror news of the early 21st century during the wild west days of the internet. Back then, anything was possible. And fun! There was no social media to come and ruin a good time. Instead websites offered mysteries, oddities, awful designs, and personal touches from the owners who created them.

We devolve sometimes here into needless nostalgia. Perhaps today was one of those days.. But it happens during long cold walks in lonely parks with trees adorned with papers reminding people to wear masks.

Today, our main headline on the front page of the Horror Report was about the asteroid Apophis.. And how it could strike the planet earth in 2068.

Quite the scary concept.. Why not drop it in a year like 2020 when all things scary seem to reign supreme, right?

Stories like this appearing in Bloomberg News, an article stating that the biggest effect of the COVID-19 pandemic will be social unrest and societal upheaval. We are seeing it in European countries where governments have decided to phase in to lockdown part 2, while in the United States governors are treading waters carefully due to pandemic malaise.. President-Elect Joe Biden may face a weighty choice as the death tolls mounts by the time he is sworn into office. If Donald Trump ever leaves.. 🙂

So just picture the rebellion that would occur if we found out the world was potentially going to meet a costly fate in 2068. A doomsday date to remember.

    2068 SEEMS far away, right?

So did 2020 back in the year 2000 when I first FTP’ed up the Horror Report onto the World Wide Web.

Presumably if Apophis does hit, and I live to a ripe old age of 88, I will see calamity befall our home planet. My son would have a better shot at seeing at when he is 57 that year..

It’s funny to consider.. I did some research tonight because I knew that I spread content many years ago about Apophis when it was first discovered. I hit the jackpot on the Wayback machine from the year 2005.

The Horror Report reported this on on February 15, 2005: A giant asteroid the size of three football pitches will make the closest flyby of Earth in recorded history for an object of its size, scientists said yesterday.

Of course the same day we said,

There’s a concrete dildo floating around out there somewhere: Ouch: Vandals attack nude statue and chisel off penis…

That same year, Apophis had yet to get its cool name. It was just called 2004 MN4 when Space.com reported that the flyback of the massive asteroid would be visible to the naked eye across the planet:

Space.com pointed out that the asteroid will be 22,600 miles from Earth’s center when it flies by on April 13, 2029.

Oh.. that is a Friday by the way, so appropriate.

The 2036 flyby was also feared by many.. Early reports indicated that this would be the date of the collision with the planet. In 2013 those reported were discounted.

    WHEW, space journals wrote then..

But now new information about this rock is becoming known, and with it the renewed sense of potential danger.

While the asteroid strike is still only a possibility, with Earth Sky reporting a great article about how Apohpis is accelerating.

Although the probability of an impact from asteroid Apophis for 2029 and 2036 has been ruled out, the new findings suggest that there might be a very small chance of impact in April 2068. Previous calculations made in 2016 had all but ruled out the probability of an impact on 2068. The chance of an impact was seen in 2016 as vanishingly small, at just 1 in 150,000 odds of impact, or a 99.99933% chance the asteroid would miss the Earth. The new findings might slightly change these numbers again, as new calculations are made using both the recent data and new observations that will be made very soon.

So rest easy tonight. This is not the night of the mighty Apophis — we have more Earthly things to worry about with a virus raging and political distractions causing immense and true division.

But be warned.. a giant killer stalks. It may pass by through our friendly skies safely in 2068 and all of these predictions will be naught.

Or we will look back at 2020 and relish in the thought of just how great it was after all.

  • The COVID Party for None: The ‘dark winter’ of discontent

The COVID Party for None: The ‘dark winter’ of discontent

Let’s be honest, this year has been bleak for many restarants.

Yes, there are some shining examples of how take out only can work, but other major chains and small restaurants are feeling the burn of COVID.. The early spring and summer lockdowns throughout the United States did not do the industry favors.. And when dining finally was allowed throughout parts of the nation, few places were able to boast of a thriving night life.

And now with the media and politicians warn of what most have suddenly deemed a “dark winter,” dining is slowing again to a crawl..

A DARK WINTER?! Was it even a bright summer!?

One of the biggest attractions that many fair weathered states had was the luck of the sun. OUTSIDE DINING.. places soaked up the ability to lessen its dim fate with tables on sidewalks and closed down streets… Inside was limited, but the air outside led to some cities coming up with unique abilities to close down alleyways and less busy roadways for table side service in the open air.

But even with those few months of profit, the restaurant industry lost $120 bil by the middle of summer.

Industry publican QSR Magazine reporting this in June,

The National Restaurant Association released new data outlining the grim COVID-19 impact so far. The Association said restaurants lost $40 billion in May, bringing the three-month total to $120 billion after March dropped $30 billion in an abbreviated window and April sank $50 billion as stay-at-home policies covered the entire month. Overall, restaurants are expected to lose some $240 billion by year’s end.

As the summer ended and fall began, the pandemic showed signs up picking up in intensity.

CNBC reported this on September 29, 2020 that more than 100,000 restaurants and bars have permanently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to estimates from the National Restaurant Association.

2020 was predicted to be a year of growth. As a matter of fact, many worried that a lack of workers would have been the major crisis.

Instead 15% of the nation’s establisments closed, never to open again.

The bright side: FAST FOOD was alive and well nationwide, dishing out sodium and fats.

CNBC went on to report some more numbers showing strange success stories and disparities:

Domino’s Pizza and Papa John’s are among the most obvious winners, as consumers quickly transitioned to order their pizzas for delivery during lockdowns. But burger chains like McDonald’s and Wendy’s, which saw sales take deeper dives in March and April, also reported relatively speedy rebounds to their U.S. businesses.  The disparity between the fast-food sector and full-service restaurants is also reflected in restaurant stocks. Shares of Olive Garden parent Darden Restaurants have fallen about 8% this year, while Dine Brands, owner of IHOP and Applebee’s, has seen its stock tumble 32%. On the flip side, McDonald’s stock is up 11% and Wendy’s shares are flat in 2020. Shares of fast-casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill have gained more than 50% year to date, adding more than $11 billion to the company’s market value. Jim Stevens, president of the Golden Chick restaurant chain, said the company saw its sales dive 15% at its more than 190 locations in Texas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Florida during the five weeks after stay-at-home orders were put in place. But the fried chicken chain’s second-quarter same-store sales rose 21%, and its third quarter is on track for a 26% increase. Drive-thru sales account for about 85% of its business now, compared with about two-thirds before.

    The dark winter emerges

We are going to get very weary of this dreadful “dark winter” phrase.. President-Elect Biden and VP-Elect Harris have said it. He recently changed his language to say a “very dark winter.”

Media figures have paraded it on newscasts.. and medical experts have warned of us it..

Back in the spring, radio host Clyde Lewis had broadcasted a program where he accurately predicted that “dark winter” was going to be the upcoming phrase we needed to get used to. He pointed that an old commercial for an Ubisoft game called Tom Clancy’s, The Division Dark Winter began to go viral. That video was from 2013.

    This was that game trailer:https://www.youtube.com/embed/Fgvo-9pJ1EU?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent

Back in June 2001, prior to the 9/11 attacks, policymakers and US officials gathered at Andrews Air Force base to simulate “dark winter.” Dark Winter and Atlantic Storm were both aligned in predicting the release of a biological pathogen during a massive winter storm. The pathogen was spread on Black Friday during a major winter storm on the Atlantic Coast…

But with COVID-19, chances are your local mall will be shuddered and shopping will have ceased…

By the time Joe Biden is inaugurated as President on January 20, 2021, predictions indicate that 70,000 more will die from the virus..

FRIDAY THE 13THS AND COVID ALWAYS GET ME DOWN

Friday the 13th in March.. various states and localities began lockdowns and stay at home orders after the White House declared the coronavirus a national emergency.

November 13, another Friday, charts out where we are now so many months later:

Daily tests have increased all year, but daily cases have come in waves.. This looks to be a third wave that does not seem to be relenting.. Hospital rates were back twice this year.. now they appear to be raging.. and while deaths were down for most of the summer and early fall, things seem to be rebounding into negative territory..

    THE PARTY FOR NONE

    Cold weather approaches..

Dining outside will be a thing of memory..

This meme is making rounds on social media:

All kidding aside, something interesting has developed in recent hours on a Facebook page we follow called “Server memes.”

    A post tonight said,

Is it just West Philly or is this the slowest Friday ever?

What followed were tons of comments, still being written, from around the United States..

  • The Donald Trump book of secrets

The Donald Trump book of secrets

The Washington POST just published a very interesting news article which asserts that Donald Trump would have the ability and power to release any secrets he wants to after he’s not an office anymore. He would not be governed by the classified rules that for bid him from talking now.

They state that because he’s in debt, and bitter over his loss to Joe Biden, he may just do that.

It brought to mind a story that ran a few weeks ago which stated that Donald Trump could possibly be the president to reveal UFO secrets, although the Washington POST article did not reference any extra terrestrial life becoming known to the public

    But what if?

What if this president was the one to do it, being that is coming from him, 76 million Americans would say it’s fake and 71 million would suddenly get ready to be beamed up and anally probed.

There is no concrete evidence that Donald Trump will do any of this, but journalists have taken two more speculative reporting over the past four years as opposed to factual bits of information being relayed..

Netflix teases Umbrella Academy season three

Some good news from Netflix this morning as they teased a little short photo promo for “Umbrella Academy“ season 3.

In a year of bad news, we have been treated to two pieces of good news. First the second season of this great show premiered in July and now as the year closes, we’re being told of the next one coming.

  • End times coming in ‘68?

    End times coming in ‘68?

Astronomers say they’ll have to keep an eye on the near-Earth asteroid Apophis to see how much of a danger the space rock poses to our planet during a close pass in 2068. But don’t panic: The chances of an impact still seem very low.

Under certain circumstances, the sun can heat an asteroid unevenly, causing the space rock to radiate away heat energy asymmetrically. The result can be a tiny push in a certain direction — an effect called Yarkovsky acceleration, which can change the path of an asteroid through space.

  • Election year

    Election year

An already tumultuous day is getting more tense with suspicious Robo calls being made across the nation, and the Washington POST saying they are spooking people who are receiving them..

The information that is received is that there is a call going around to various people across the country stating stay home and stay safe on Election Day.

Meanwhile, networks have gone wall-to-wall on coverage, the White House has been barricaded with the fence, and businesses are boarding up in the event that tonight turns violent…

  • Election dreadful 2020

    Election dreadful 2020

Are you like me? Is there a certain for building sense of doom for Tuesday’s election? 2020 has brought with it a dose of dread and birthpangs of fear.election? 2020 has been weird. It might be weirder after tomorrow.

Now, there might be a chance that will know the president by 8 PM and there will be a landslide. Maybe that Blue wave will occur, or perhaps surprising moments in the Trump world will happen again and he will win just like he did in 2016

The “maybe not” is what gives us the sleepless night.

The maybe not comes from states where voting has been extended until after the election, like Pennsylvania where you can still have a vote be counted days from now, and in a close election every minute will matter.

Maybe those fears are evident best in places such as South Carolina, as Charleston gets ready by boarding up local businesses. Same in New York City, and the same at the White House where fencing has been installed to control any potential rioters if things go awry Tuesday night..

We hope and pray to whatever God may exist that this election is just boring like all the other ones. But elections haven’t been boring lately.

Yes, there is that sense of dread. Perhaps that Dread is in your stomach too, bubbling up towards your heart and beyond, bringing with that a series of chills and nervousness about how our country will vote, the more importantly how have the nation will react to the other half when they find out how they voted.
